This is a bit of a different style of writing for me. It's written to be like reading a script to record in one of those what if videos (key word is like). Much faster and straight to the point.
Our story begins on Planet Vegeta, home to all saiyans. But this is where our shift in the timeline occurs. One different lone saiyan takes note of the unusual gathering of saiyans on Planet Vegeta. His name is Benro, a low class saiyan warrior. He takes notice of one other saiyan who also looked at this occasion to be a bit suspicious.
That saiyan is, as everyone knows to be, Bardock. Bardock does the same as in the original, taking his son Kakarot and sending him off to Earth. A heartfelt goodbye as Bardock and Gine watch as their son flies away in his saiyan pod.
Benro walks in this farewell with his own saiyan pod on his shoulder. In it was his daughter. "If you're right, your son won't be alone." Benro then inputs the coordinates to Earth on his remote and launches the saiyan pod and it quickly catches up and flies alongside the other pod.
"Benro!?" Bardock said in surprise. "Why?"
"We're both low class saiyans warriors. I find it suspicious that we are invited to this event alongside the elites." Benro said, walking up to Bardock and Gine while still looking at the space pod he threw.
"I didn't think you were the sentimental type." Bardock says. Bardock feels a sense of relief knowing that even if something does happen his son won't be alone in the world he was sent to.
"Ever since Qwass died, I've seemed to have lost that spark I used to have. I don't find it very entertaining to destroy things like I used to. And just like you I want to try protecting. Maybe if I had done something like this sooner Qwass would still be alive." Benro reminisced on his memories of his wife and lifelong rival.
"It wasn't anyone's fault. You were taken by surprise and fell into a trap. They sacrificed themselves so that you could win. Have pride in that victory. And know that their life wasn't wasted in vain." Bardock pats Benro on the back. "Now, come on, let's go see why Frieza called all of us here." Bardock walks with Gine back to the gathering of Saiyans. Benro follows soon after.
Sadly however, even with one more saiyan ally, the fate of the saiyan race was still sealed. Frieza with one of his signature moves, the Death Ball, blows up Planet Vegeta killing every saiyan on the planet. Both Bardock and Benro fighting until the bitter end smiled before their death knowing their children were going to be safe.
Meanwhile back with the two space pods flying off towards Earth. The crying Kakarot had awoken our female lead. Her saiyan name, in homage to her late mother, Quass. She is a year older than Kakarot. Having her self awareness already she notices she was not in her room anymore and instead being shipped off in a space pod going who knows where.
Staring out into space from the red tinted glass of the pod, it sets in that she was probably on her first mission. It wasn't uncommon for saiyans to send children to a weak planet to conquer them so she wasn't too worried. Noticing another space pod she wonders if that was her father's pod. The loud cries coming from the space pod quickly dissuade any thought of it being her father.
She doesn't know how to pilot the space pod yet. Although she has seen how to start and stop the space pod she doesn't know any commands to change directions or locations. Knowing that fiddling around with the controls could get her into trouble she sits back and waits until she eventually arrives at her intended destination. Before going back to sleep she makes eye contact with Kakarot for just a moment and remembers someone with that exact same spiky haircut. She couldn't place a finger on who exactly it was though.
Getting ever so sleepy she forgets about the thought and goes to sleep. Everything goes about the same until a moment before entering the Milky Way Galaxy. An asteroid collision had knocked Quass's pod off course from where Kakarot would land. Quass wakes up to the sudden impact now noticing cracks in the window.
She panics not knowing how long she had been out and because air is leaking out from the cracks. She doesn't know how much longer this trip is going to be. This was after all her first mission. Knowing that she wouldn't be able to do anything she hopes for the best as she starts to slowly suffocate.
First mission and already going bad. The feeling of death looming closer didn't help. She hasn't even arrived at her destination yet, what would her father think of her. "A disappointment just like mother." A rush of emotion as the last bit of air escaped from the pod. Asphyxiation is starting to take over.
Quass was angry. Angry at herself, angry at the person or people who sent her here, angry at the weak space pod, angry at the meteor that caused the crack in the pod, angry at the other saiyan who was still crying.
As her emotion was coming to a boiling point she passed out due to lack of air. Her power level however had spiked temporarily to 1000 increasing the speed at which the pod was traveling. The space pod manages to make it into Earth's atmosphere. A little too late however for the damage was already done to her brain.
The space pod lands in a foggy bamboo forest. Quass takes in a long needed breath of air. The landing created a small crater in the area clearing the fog in a small radius around it. The space pod opens. Quass is still unconscious.
An old man wearing a black Chinese skullcap with a crane head model came to investigate the noise. The man known as Master Shen from the famous Crane School of Martial Arts. The old man notices the spacecraft but is unfamiliar with this particular spacecraft so he doesn't assume the space pod was a spacecraft. Instead focusing on the strange girl in strange clothing like armor. But what was more strange was the tail she had.
Shen sees this as an attack on his land seeing as this had caused a crater in his territory. The question was not who this girl was but who caused this mess in his backyard. And the only one who could answer was the girl.
Not completely heartless, he walks away ordering one of his students to take the girl, that student being Tien Shinhan. He goes down and picks up the girl over his shoulder and follows Master Shen.
Over with Kakarot everything goes about the same. With grandpa Gohan finding him then renaming Kakarot to Son Goku, and eventually Goku bumping his head as a child. Forgetting everything about his saiyan heritage.
When Quass regained consciousness she was in bed. The first to greet her was another girl with her hair up in two buns, one on each side of her head. Quass sits up feeling like she had been hit by something big.
"Hold on just a moment, I'll let master know you're awake." The girl leaves. A moment later she arrives back with Master Shen.
Master Shen questions Quass. "Who are you and who sent you?"
"Who am I?" Quass does not remember who she is, why she's there, or even what's going on right now.
"Oh so the girl does speak. For a moment there I had thought they had really sent a literal infant to attack me. Or more like they sent the capsule with you in it." Master Shen Mocks the girl. "Well if you do not know who sent you then off you go now."
"Go? Go where?" Quass asked.
"I don't want you here. Leave, go away. You are not worth keeping. Yurin makes sure she is out of here before nightfall." Master Shen leaves.
The girl stays behind with Quass. Right now it is mid afternoon. Yurin then promptly ushers Quass out before Quass could even get her thoughts straight.
Now outside alone by herself Quass starts to wander around. She was away from any big civilization. The only thing she knows of was Master Shen and that girl named Yurin. She wanders around the forest starting to starve. Then suddenly before her a giant tiger approaches, thinking of her as prey. As the tiger pounces, Quass easily smacks the tiger away. The tiger now scared of Quass cower in fear unmoving as it waits for what Quass would do next. Quass not understanding what just happened walks away leaving the tiger alone.
Quass continues to walk aimlessly only getting more hungry. Soon night fell and on this night was a full moon. And like any full moon Quass was fast asleep. Tired out from hunger and thirst.
The next morning. She wakes up to the scent of food in the air. She follows the scent to a bald boy cooking the same tiger from the other day over a fire.
That bald boy was Tien Shinhan. He notices Quass almost immediately. "I saw your strength from yesterday." Tien spoke out loud as Quass's stomach began to growl. "You have potential. Master Shen would be more than happy to welcome you if you prove your strength." Quass is completely focused on the cooked tiger meat and Tien takes notice of this as he gets in a fighting stance. "But before that I want to see just how strong you really are."
Tien launches an attack. A straight forward punch almost faster than what the eye can see. Quass easily catches the punch with a single hand. Her base power level right now is 100. And so Quass easily flings Tien away and walks towards the cooked tiger meat and eats it.
Tien was in awe at how strong this weirdly dressed little girl was. Fast forwarding a bit Tien Shinhan eventually takes Qwas back to Master Shen telling Shen just how strong the girl was at her age. Shen, now having a curiosity over the girl's strength, tests her by fighting her with the intent to kill.
Quass manages to hold her own for a moment but when Shen decides to get serious and throw in the Crane Style of Martial Arts it was no contest. Quass was beaten up near death. But this satisfied Master Shen as he asked a question, "This girl does have great potential. Her movements are animalistic, wild, and unsophisticated. If trained she might even become the perfect assassin. But before that, what's your name girl?"
"I don't know." Quass manages to breathe out through her bruises and broken bones and give an answer to Shen's question.
"Well a person like you comes once in a lifetime. I'll give you the name Ah Kum. Rest for now your training starts tomorrow." Master Shen leaves satisfied to know that he will be raising another rising star of the Crane School.
The next day arrives with everyone being surprised at the quick recovery of Quass now renamed Ah Kum. Bruising still showed but the broken bones had healed overnight. The harsh training begins. Whatever that training may be, it eventually comes down to sparring with Tien and Chiaotzu. Everytime she fails to execute a move perfectly, Master Shen would hit her with deadly force. They also learned of her one and only weakness: her tail. Grabbing hold of her tail seems to sap all of her strength leaving her immobile and vulnerable.
This training continues for a long seven years. Within this time Ah Kum grows closer to Chiaotzu, Tien and Yurin thinking of them as friends. She replaces her saiyan armor with the Crane School uniform/ training gi. Also within this time her power level has only risen to 120. Tien followed closely behind with a power level of 110 and Chiaotzu at 80. Ah Kum has learned most of the Crane Martial Arts techniques. The only other technique she doesn't know of yet was the Tri-Beam. She also met Mercenary Tao a couple of times and even sparred with him being praised for begging strong enough to hold her own against him at such a young age.
Weirdly enough, never once in the seven years that she had been training under Master Shen has she seen the full moon. And it will stay this way. Moving on, the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament was the stage to let two kids with a tail meet once again.
Walking behind Master Shen is Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, and Ah Kum. They've already signed up for the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament but Master Shen chose to loop back to the front to see his old rival Master Roshi. They get in their usual banter of unfriendly rivalry. Master Shen then introduces his own star pupils.
To the shock of the other group as they notice Ah Kum has a tail just like Goku. Now Krillin and Yamcha are a bit worried that if Ah Kum was as strong as Goku then there would be two Gokus in the tournament.
"I see you also got a student with a tail. She wouldn't happen to be related to my own student would she?" Master Roshi asked Master Shen.
"Wouldn't you like to know." Master Shen sees this as an opportunity to pretend that he knows something he doesn't. "Maybe she is, maybe she isn't, why would I tell you."
Bulma whispers off to the side, "He's definitely as curious as us to figure this out."
"It wouldn't kill us to see what would happen if the two kids interacted," Master Shen said as they waited a distance away from Master Roshi's group. And minutes before the signup closes a boy in a tiger pelt comes running by. This boy was of course Goku. Master Roshi sneaks off to register Goku in the tournament as Goku reunites with his friends.
Tien confirms and recognizes that this kid named Goku was the same kid from a fight they had somewhere before.
Ah Kum notices Goku's tail then she looks at hers. They were the same type of tail. And so she steps up and makes eye contact with Goku. Goku senses Ah Kum's gaze and quickly stares back. Everyone holds their breath as they wait for a reaction from either Ah Kum or Goku.
At this time Ah Kum is just a bit taller than Goku but not very noticeable. Ah Kum and Goku both point at each other and exclaim, "You have a tail!" Everyone else then face-fault to the ground.
"I've never met someone else with a tail like me before. Wow." Goku said, now pointing at her tail. "I thought girls couldn't grow tails."
Ah Kum can't place her finger on it but something about Goku's hair seems familiar. "I thought Boys had a different tail."
"My name's Goku. What's yours? Are you also signing up for the World Martial Arts Tournament?"
"My name is Ah Kum. I'll be beating you in the tournament."
"I get the feeling you must be strong." Goku says with a big smile and laughter. Then suddenly recognizing Tien and Chiaotzu Goku shouts in surprise, "It's you! You're the bad guys from that time!?"
"Bad guys?" Ah Kum gets a bit angry at hearing her friend being called bad people.
Master Shen notices this anger and when Ah Kum gets angry she gets a little harder to control. So before this gets out of hand Master Shen says, "Alright that's enough. It seems like it really was just a coincidence that these two children were born with tails. Come on, let's go." Master Shen then leaves and Tien and Chiaotzu follow closely behind.
Ah Kum takes one more mean glare at Goku and says, "I'll make you eat those words. Just don't lose before I get to you." Ah Kum then leaves.
Goku narrows his eyes and says, "I can say the same to you." He glared at her until she was out of sight.
The rest of the day Ah Kum spent it wandering around the big city just exploring. This is her first time in a city that big. She of course got permission from Master Shen first. She was still at heart a child. Now normally she would go to sleep early but this time she chooses to stay up late to see the night time city life.
She nearly gets hit by a truck for crossing the road on a red light. She did get kidnapped after some men promised her good food. She easily escaped since the men said there wasn't any food. She finds a nice old lady and helps her not get mugged. The old lady gives her candy and she cherishes it dearly. She meets a boy who was following her throughout the whole night even during the kidnapping. The boy introduces her to his back street gang of kids. She got offered to join but she refuses. The boy not taking no for an answer tries to get the other boys to beat her up and they all get beat easily by Ah Kum. Ah Kum then gets scouted by an agent. The agent was working for a kids fashion company and saw the potential of Ah Kum as a fashion icon. Ah Kum gets roped in for a little while before sneaking off to see a nice little pond reflecting the night sky. Luckily for everyone there was no moon since Jackie Chun destroyed it back during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. Ah Kum takes a moment to just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Not really understanding why anything of what happened that night happened at all she returns to rest for the tournament. Something about the starry skies seemed familiar to her.
The tournament comes around and coincidentally no one from either the Crane School or Turtle School would be fighting each other in the preliminary rounds. Of course this was because of Chiaotzu's telekinetic powers.
During the elimination round they do get into a little showdown with the Turtle School after Tien does his usual Tien stuff like in the original. While watching Goku fight, Tien asks a question to Ah Kum, "Between you and him, who do you think would win?"
"All I gotta do is grab his tail. What's so hard about that?" Ah Kum answers with her arms crossed still scowling at Goku for what he said before.
"Don't forget he can grab yours too if you're not careful." Tien warns Ah Kum.
"He's slower than me. I'll be fine. Do you think you're able to beat him?" Ah Kum asked the same question back.
"Of course Tien will win, he's the strongest." Chiaotzu claims.
"All I need to do is grab his tail and I win. Easy as that." Tien says as he laughs.
"What's he laughing at? Did someone hit him in the head and he went crazy?" Krillin commented.
The matches continue on like in the original. The eight finalists are Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Jackie Chun, Manwolf, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Ah Kum.
After the preliminary round was over everyone drew lots to see who they were going to fight. It's the same roster as in the original only with Ah Kum replacing Panput. We'll just jump straight to the only match that will be different. Which is Ah Kum vs Goku.
Everyone looks with anticipation. The two kids with a tail are already fighting each other in the first round. Ah Kum and Goku get called up to the ring. Both walk together, each wanting to defeat the other for their friends. As the match is announced to begin, Ah Kum and Goku both get into a fighting stance.
The fight was put to a halting silence as both Ah Kum and Goku were seemingly unmoving. But that was far from the truth. Tien was the only to notice when the match started both moved so incredibly fast it left an after image. A moment later everyone else's eyes catches up to what was happening as they now see both Ah Kum and Goku in a deadlock. Their fist collided with each other one after another.
But that was only temporary because Ah Kum's focus wasn't to beat Goku through strength but by grabbing his tail. Ah Kum backs away and Goku does the same. They each catch their breath as they complement each other's speed and strength.
"You're not as bad as I thought you would be," Goku says.
"You're pretty strong, but I'm much faster." In an instant Ah Kum vanished from everyone's sight. Even Tien couldn't see her. Goku on the other hand had a strange feeling like Ah Kum was aiming to grab his tail. Goku, after all, knows that she herself must already have experienced what happens when their tail gets tugged on.
To no one's surprise Ah Kum manages to grab onto Goku's tail. Everyone sees Goku go down. Ah Kum stands victorious as the countdown begins.
Krillin and Bulma shouts for Ah Kum to fight Goku fairly and to not abuse their weakness. Ah Kum ignores their cries as she stands tall triumphantly. Master Shen gloats over the victory as Tien laughs at the fact that someone as strong as Goku and Ah Kum could be taken down so easily just by grabbing their tails. Master Shen tells Ah Kum to finish Goku off. Ah Kum complies to the command to the dismay of the rest of the Turtle School members.
The countdown reaches eight as Ah Kum raises her hand high in the air, fully intending to kill Goku. Suddenly all that gloating and laughing fades as Ah Kum suddenly falls flat on her face. To the shock of the announcer both Goku and Ah Kum seem to have both fallen. But Goku stands up with a big smile on his face as his countdown reaches nine. Everyone was shocked at how Goku was fine even with his tail being grabbed.
"I agree you are faster than me but I knew you'd go for my tail!" Goku now stands triumphantly holding onto Ah Kum's tail. "It looks like you haven't trained your tail enough to stop yourself from getting weak when someone grabs it huh."
"HUH!? Th-that's cheating!" Master Shen shouted in annoyance.
Tien takes note that if he has to fight Goku it might not be as easy as he thought.
"Goku!" Bulma shouts in relief.
"Yeah, way to Goku!" Krillin shouts in amazement.
"Indeed what a surprise. If Ah Kum had trained her tail too, it would've made this fight much more difficult." Jackie Chun comments.
"If you apologize for all you've done to my friend. I'll fight you fairly." Goku states as the countdown for her begins.
Shen quickly tells her to apologize and to finish him off after. Because of her pride Ah Kum finds it hard to get an apology out. As the countdown reaches eight she manages to gather some strength and shout, "I'M SORRY!"
"So you do have some good in ya." Goku then immediately lets go of Ah Kum's tail and she pushes herself high up into the air.
"I'll make you pay for humiliating me like that!" She is blushing bright red as she charges up an attack flying in the air.
Master Roshi recognizes this attack as the energy build up was forming the Tri-Beam technique and chastises Shen for teaching such a dangerous technique. Shen argues that he didn't teach her the Tri-Beam technique. Putting all rationality away she puts all her energy into the attack. Ah Kum shouts, "Ki Ko Ho!"
A huge explosion and flash engulfs the entire arena. And after the flash remains a deep square hole where Goku and the arena once stood. Ah Kum begins to fall, wasting all of her energy in that one attack. Goku on the other hand was using his tail as a propeller to fly as he managed to dodge the attack. Still having a lot of energy to spare, Goku catches Ah Kum and brings her down to the ground safely. She disapproves of him carrying her but Ah Kum has run out of energy unable to move properly.
"If you had just fought me normally I might have lost. You're strong but your attacks are too straight forward." Goku commented on Ah Kum's forward approach to fighting.
"Shut up and let me down already! If you hadn't embarrassed me I would have thought it out properly!" Ah Kum said as she wiggled weakly trying to get away from Goku.
"Okay." Goku said with laughter. When they got to a falling height that wouldn't hurt Ah Kum too much Goku drops her.
A moment later Ah Kum realizes that if she falls to the ground she would lose the fight. "Wait, I changed my mind! Come back!" Goku gets smaller from her sight as she falls to the ground with Goku just smiling and waving bye. "I'll get you for this Goku!" She was the first to touch the ground outside the ring meaning Goku moves on to the semi finals.
Master Shen is annoyed at the loss but since his real star pupil Tien was still in the tournament he was fine with the loss. But he won't accept another loss.
With that the first rounds of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament were over. Two losses from the Crane School and only one loss from the Turtle School. Ah Kum makes a full recovery within the rest period. The next day arrived with a slight change in location due to Ah Kum destroying the arena.
All goes awry as Tien and Goku begin the final round of the tournament. As in the original Master Shen tells Chiaotzu to cheat. Ah Kum dislikes the fact that they were cheating but wanted to see Goku lose. When Tien finds out that Chiaotzu was using his telekinetic powers to hold Goku down he shouts for Chiaotzu to stop which he does.
Master Shen tells Tien to continue his onslaught with Goku but Tien refuses. Shen tells Chiaotzu to paralyze both Tien and Goku so that he could kill them both but Chiaotzu refuses. Angered that Chiaotzu went against his orders, Shen tells Ah Kum to kill Chiaotzu.
Ah Kum's face showed confliction and so she looked at Master Shen. His face was full of anger. And then at Chiaotzu. He was scared and the fear of Ah Kum was in him. She looks at Tien and Tien looks at Ah Kum with an anxious look. Ah Kum considered it for a moment weighing what she was taught vs her friendship with Tien and Chiaotzu. She was taught to be a cold, an emotionless assassin, and her strong pride had helped in this training. But Tien and Chiaotzu treated her like family so she couldn't let go of that protective nature she was slowly growing to have. But with how Tien and Chiaotzu were looking at her it felt like they didn't feel the same.
Ah Kum breaks down crying not understanding why. She bows down at the feet of Master Shen begging for him to resend the order. "I don't want to do it Master Shen. I'm sorry, please take back the order. I don't want to Kill Chiaotzu!"
"Useless! All of you!" Master Shen grabs hold of Ah Kum's tail, weakening her. "If you aren't going to listen to what I say then you're better off dead! Die!" Raising his hand up about to finish Ah Kum off with the same move she was going to use to kill Goku.
Luckily for everyone Master Roshi had already charged a Kamehameha and launched the ki blast at Master Shen. It collides with Shen not killing him but enough to blast him far away. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief.
Although it wasn't very long. When Ah Kum regains her strength she stands up in a fighting pose. With tears still streaming down her face, she hardens herself to kill Chiaotzu.
"Wait, Ah Kum what are you doing Master Shen isn't here right now." Chiaotzu asks warily and frantically wondering why Ah Kum was still trying to follow through with the order.
Trying to fight through the tears she says, "We have to listen to Master Shen. You said we shouldn't disobey him. So… So… So!" Not being able to speak anymore she charges forward with Chiaotzu putting his arms up to try and protect himself.
The only two right now that could stop Ah Kum were confined to the arena due to the tournament rules. Master Roshi wouldn't be able to get the jump on Ah Kum like he did with Master Shen because she was now aware of Master Roshi's surprise attacks. Krillin wouldn't make it in time to stop the fatal attack from Ah Kum. Yamcha has a broken leg Tien had given him during their match in the first round, unable to even defend himself correctly.
Will Chiaotzu die by the hands of Ah Kum? Will Tien Or Goku give up on the tournament to save Chiaotzu. Does Master Roshi have a secret technique to get the jump on Ah Kum? Could Krillin be just fast enough to make it to aid Chiaotzu? Find out now on Dragon Ball!
"AH KUM, WAIT!" Tien shouts and Ah Kum comes to a complete stop just moments away from stabbing Chiaotzu's neck with her finger. "I'm sorry. With how strong you are I forget that at heart you're still just a little girl."
Chiaotzu is sacred and frozen staring into Ah Kum's eyes. Ah Kum has tears falling from her eyes but her eyes are focused on the task given to her by Master Shen. Master Roshi, Goku and Krillin watch with bated breath.
"Forget about Master Shen. Just focus on me winning this tournament." Ah Kum's resolve starts to waver as shown with her shaking arms. "After all. We're friends."
Ah Kum's eyes softened hearing those words. There was no more doubt in her head whether or not he should kill Chiaotzu as she went to wrap her arms around Chiaotzu in a hug. She cries very loudly as Chiaotzu opens up to hug her back in relief. Master Roshi then asks Tien why Ah Kum would still follow Master Shen's order even though she didn't want to. Tien goes on to explain when they found Ah Kum and how she was taught not to disobey Master Shen via pain and sometimes even torture.
"I see. How unfortunate. If she had met someone with a kinder heart like Gohan she might have turned out more like Goku." Master Roshi thinks to himself watching over Ah Kum. "But it's not too late to help her move away from that mind set."
The final round then continues unimpeded. Tien's power was just a little bit above Goku's power. Having a stronger opponent to spar with every day had helped in this slight advantage. So yes, Truck-kun. I'm sorry but you will not be taking away Goku's win in this universe. Instead it would be by Tien's own strength. Although, those free shots that Tien got off on Goku because of Chiaotzu before Tien caught on to the cheating definitely contributed more to his victory than anything. And there doesn't have to be a big square hole in the arena.
With that, Ah Kum and Chiaotzu celebrate their friend's victory. Goku congratulates Tien on the battle well fought and so does Master Roshi and Krillin.
It's late afternoon before the crowd of cheering fans had finally dispersed. And the Crane School and Turtle School separated for a moment. Goku's crew stayed around the arena stage for a bit longer. Moments later Tien's crew walks back out with Tien offering half of the prize money to Goku due to the unfair fight. Goku refuses the money saying he wouldn't know how to spend it. And so instead Tien offers to treat everyone to a good meal. Both schools reconciled with each other. Ah Kum was a whole lot more cheerful now that Master Shen wasn't around.
Ah Kum vows to Goku that the next time they fight she'll get over her tail weakness and beat Goku fair and square. Everyone laughed at her when she said square because she quite literally made a square shaped hole in the old tournament arena.
And so as they arrived at the restaurant of choice, Goku suddenly remembered that he had forgotten his 4 star dragon ball and power pole at the storage area of the tournament site. Krillin was the first to offer to go in Goku's stead and Ah Kum offered to go instead, but with the incentive of Krillin, Goku let's Krillin go retrieve the items for him although reluctant.
They go inside the restaurant after Goku said his goodbyes to Krillin. After ordering their food they wait for Krillin to arrive as they all engage in small talk. Soon the food arrives and they are still waiting for Krillin. After a while longer, a small concern for Krillin being gone for so long ran through everyone's mind. Bulma and Yamcha waves it off as Krillin just goofing around. And so everyone except Goku and Tien begin to eat. Goku has a sense that something is wrong and Tien just focuses on Goku's worried expression.
Goku then suddenly gets up with a very worrisome look. He rushes out the door going who knows where. Ah Kum takes note of this and so does Tien.
"Ah Kum, can you keep an eye on him? You're the fastest out of all of us here." Tien asks Ah Kum.
"On it." Ah Kum quickly and easily catches up to Goku following behind him. Everyone else starts to chase after from a distance away.
Goku and Ah Kum arrive at the World Martial Arts Tournament storage area. Looking inside Ah Kum stood shocked. Goku on the other hand felt anger and sadness. In the center of the room lies the lifeless body of Krillin. Goku goes to inspect Krillin's body and it only confirms his fear.
The announcer to the tournament was badly injured laying a bit away from Krillin. He tells the two little warriors about what happened. The rest of the crew arrives and shocks on all their faces as they notice what happened to Krillin. Goku asks for the dragon radar, while strapping on his power pole to his back. Bulma brings out the dragon radar and Goku quickly takes it without saying anything else then calls the Flying Nimbus and flies away.
Master Roshi orders him to stop. Ah Kum offered to go after him but Roshi told her it would be a really bad idea.
"Understandable, when Ah Kum gets like that too there was nothing but grabbing hold of her tail to stop her. But if Goku doesn't have that weakness it would be nearly impossible to get him to listen to reason." Tien comments.
This is now when Master Roshi gives the whole story of Demon King Piccolo after seeing the symbol of the Demon King Piccolo.
"Wait, if King Piccolo is really that dangerous then I have to go. His energy has depleted. Goku's in Da… ng.. er." Ah Kum gets ready to leave but Tien quickly grabs hold of her tail and she goes limp.
"Not so fast Ah Kum, you'll only get yourself killed with him." Tien reasoned with Ah Kum to which Ah Kum realized. "So what's our next step of action?"
"We wait and hope that Goku comes back," Master Roshi says as he looks up towards the direction Goku flew off in.
And as they waited, night fell and there was still no sign of Goku. It was starting to look like Goku would not be returning there any time soon. And so they chose the next step of action to go to Kame House to rest. Everyone couldn't rest too soundly. Ah Kum especially. Something about Goku was coming up in her mind but what she was seeing wasn't Goku but someone much older than Goku.
The next day soon comes around, still no news from Goku. Tien, Chiaotzu, and Ah Kum get told about the seven dragon balls and their wish granting powers. With that, Master Roshi sets off with Ah Kum, Chiaotzu, and Tien to go search for the dragon ball with the newly built dragon radar that Bulma finished making.
They then manage to gather five of the seven total dragon balls. Master Roshi notices that the two remaining dragon balls have converged into one point and is heading their way. Assuming that it was King Piccolo or one of his minions and should the worse had happened to Goku he takes a moment to reminisce on the life he had with his pupils. He gets pulled back to reality as they have landed to either carry out the plan that he didn't tell anyone about or hopefully steal the remaining dragon balls from King Piccolo.
Hiding the dragon balls in a hole and then hiding themselves among the rocks and caves they wait for the signal of the two remaining signals to come to them. And to them it comes as a ship hovers above. King Piccolo reveals himself and proceeds to swallow the two remaining dragon balls to the terror of the others.
Roshi, seeing that their plan of stealing the dragon ball will now be useless unless they beat King Piccolo, proceeds to spray some sleeping gas onto Tien to stop him from joining in the fight. Roshi knows that as long as Tien and Chiaotzu don't join the fight, Ah Kum won't join in the fight even if he dies. He shouts for Chiaotzu to not come out no matter what and Chiaotzu does his best to comply. Tien struggles to stay awake and Ah Kum helps Tien stay awake for the battle about to commence.
Piccolo jumps down after Roshi calls out to him. After a bit of taunting from the both of them Piccolo makes the first attack sending Roshi flying back. Roshi starts breathing heavily as another ranged attack is launched at Roshi. Roshi, after a stare down and having no interest in fighting Piccolo, explains to Piccolo how he was going to lose. Tien understood what he meant by it and asked for Ah Kum to stop Master Roshi from sacrificing himself. Ah Kum is conflicted again but she chooses the same answer and that is to save her friends. So Tien's pleas fell on deaf ears.
Everyone at the scene watches as Master Roshi performs the Evil Containment Wave. Tien especially engraves the technique into his mind. But sadly as we all know Master Roshi fails to aim the wave into the jar and dies.
A weak Goku heading towards Korin's Tower could feel that something was wrong. Oh, and yeah, everything that happened to Goku in the original is still happening.
Piccolo then proceeds to gather the dragon balls together and calls upon the eternal dragon Shenron. The sky darkens with dark clouds. Storming thunder clouds light the sky for a moment with a bright gold shine, flash, then a huge lightning strikes as the dragon appears. Piccolo standing in awe takes a moment to gaze at the dragon. He gloats over his victory.
"I Will Grant One Wish! Tell Me What It Is You Desire!"
Tien telepathically contacts Chiaotzu without letting Ah Kum know to intercept the wish with his own. He knows Ah Kum won't do it because she would take too long to decided but Tien trusts that Chiaotzu can do it.
"What Do You Wish For!?"
"I wish for—"
Chiaotzu jumps in suddenly shouting, "I wish for King Piccolo to disappear from—"
Before Chiaotzu can make the wish King Piccolo shoots an energy blast killing Chiaotzu. Ah Kum has a moment of disbelief. Right in front of her eyes Chiaotzu has fallen down unmoving. She tries to rationalize this event. Maybe Chiaotzu isn't dead. I mean Master Shen wanted Chiaotzu to die and now Chiaotzu has died. This was what would have happened eventually. No this wasn't supposed to happen. They went against the order so this must be the punishment. This shouldn't have happened.
"No…Chiaotzu. You can't be dead." Ah Kum starts to walk out into the open. Tien tries to stop her by grabbing her tail but the sleeping gas hinders his movements and her tail slips right out of his hand.
Piccolo notices Ah Kum and quickly makes his wish not knowing who else might pull the same trick. "I wish to be made young again! Restore my youth and power. Return to me what time has stolen! Can you do this!l
"As You Wish!"
Piccolo begins to revert back to his youthful age. Akumi walks over to the now lifeless Chiaotzu. Piccolo is invigorated with his young self. Akumi kneels down above Chiaotzu, emotions boiling inside. She confirms that Chiaotzu is indeed dead.
"Your Wish Has Been Granted! I Take My Leave!"
"There's one more thing you can do for me." King Piccolo then shoots an energy blast at the dragon blowing the Eternal Dragon into pieces. Piccolo starts laughing maniacally as the sky clears and the dragon ball turns to stone permanently.
Tien sees all of this and the shock lets his mind waver for just a moment as he goes unconscious. Akumi is now running on instinct. All rationality has again left her mind once again. All that she could think of was how to kill King Piccolo in the most painful way possible. Her power level spiking up to 250.
King Piccolo now laughs at Ah Kum mocking her. "You lost your master, your fellow pupil, and if you were related to that other child with a tail I killed him a while ago. I doubt a child like you knows the Evil Containment Wave."
"I'm going to kill you!" Ah Kum's eyes narrow down on King Piccolo. She makes the first move in their fight with a clean punch across the face.
King Piccolo had not expected such speed or power from this little girl who he thought would be only as strong and fast as the other tailed kid that is Goku. King Piccolo starts to get into a fighting stance. Ah Kum doesn't even let him but King Piccolo expects as much and blocks the first attack. He can see that her attacks and movements were simple, her speed and strength the only thing allowing her to keep up with him. King Piccolo loves this little challenge for him to test just how strong he was in his youth.
Piccolo lands a clean punch to Ah Kum's gut. Ah Kum counters with a flurry of punches. Piccolo blocks, then kicks Ah Kum into the air. Ah Kum rebounds with the Crane School technique, SkyDance, flying back towards Piccolo. Piccolo jumps to meet her in the sky. Clashing in the sky going blow for blow. Slowly however Ah Kum starts to give out. But what really sealed the nail in her coffin was the moment King Piccolo grabbed her tail to throw her back to the ground.
Instead of throwing her down to the ground he takes a moment to notice that Ah Kum has gone limp. Now choosing to toss her down to the ground kicking up a big dust cloud. Ah Kum jumps straight back into the fight but now King Piccolo has a theory about her weakness. With her not caring about defending, grabbing her tail was an easy task for King Piccolo. Testing out his theory King Piccolo manages to grab hold of her tail once again and her whole body once again goes limp.
King Piccolo laughs maniacally. "If I had known your weakness was your tail I would have tortured the boy for much longer!"
"I'm going to kill you!" Ah Kum weakly spoke as strong as she could make it.
"You got it wrong, it's I who is going to kill you!"
And we will just fade to black on this one. You know what happens next.
Tien wakes up and rushes out to see the dead bodies of not only Chiaotzu, and Master Roshi, but lying on the ground a bit away from them was the cold dead body of Ah Kum. Tien slams his hand to the ground. He thinks to himself that he just sent his only friends to their deaths. He condemns himself for being the only survivor. The death of Ah Kum only confirms that Goku was most likely dead already.
Everything else in this saga then proceeds as normal. The only difference now is that Tien is even more Angry at himself and dedicated to mastering the Evil Containment Wave. Goku gets even more angry at hearing news of their death. The other characters like Bulma and Launch are even more sad.
Chaos ensues as days pass with no one to contest the takeover of King Piccolo. Tien unknowingly lets Piccolo recover to full strength within that time. Ah Kum had landed one last devastating blow on King Piccolo. But sadly she was already at death's door so the weakened attack didn't have enough energy to kill but only mortally wound him.
When Tien was finished with his rushed practice with the Evil Containment Wave he messages the others on day he was going to fight Piccolo. And so he flies in his flying ship to confront King Piccolo in West City. When Tien confronted King Piccolo, Piccolo spawned one of his minions and named him Drum to fight Tien. Tien knows that he's fighting a losing battle but he prepares himself either way. When Tien was on the verge of defeat by Drum he pulled one last ditch effort by performing the Evil Containment Wave on Piccolo. Sadly however Drum steps in the way of the sealing technique. This leaves the opportunity for Piccolo to destroy the electric jar that Tien had prepared to seal King Piccolo.
Tien falls down depleted of most of his energy. Piccolo breathes a sigh of relief as he tells Drum to finish Tien off. As Drum was about to land the killing blow Goku arrives kicking Drum away.
Tien looks up and can't believe his eyes as he sees the back of Au Kum. But regaining his composure he then realizes as to who it was and shouts in disbelief, "I must be dreaming! Goku?!"
"Oh, Tien Shinhan! Great to see you." Goku said cheerfully, turning towards Tien completely disregarding King Piccolo for the moment.
"Goku! You're really alive!" Tien gets some hope back into him. He slowly regains some of his energy back because of it.
"You're a persistent little worm. Next time I beat you I'll make sure you stay down." King Piccolo says.
Goku notices how King Piccolo is younger now. King Piccolo, still thinking that Goku's power is still the same as before, tells Drum to finish them off. Goku however surprised everyone by finishing Drum off in one blow.
"I know you were holding back against me in the previous fight. How foolish of you to wait for me to gain my full power. If you and that girl had fought me together you would have stood a chance. She alone nearly killed me. But it's too late now. I know how to deal with you." King Piccolo assumes that Goku was only as strong as Ah Kum which is fine now since King Piccolo now knows their weakness.
Tien realized that Ah Kum just like Goku may have been able to defeat King Piccolo but King Piccolo found out about her one weakness. "You bastard! You took advantage of Ah Kum's weakness and killed her when she couldn't fight back!"
"And I'll do the same to him!" King Piccolo speeds off to grab Goku's tail.
Tien for the moment forgets that Goku doesn't have the same tail weakness as Ah Kum. "Goku, watch out! He's aiming for your tail!"
Goku lets King Piccolo grab hold of his tail. King Piccolo, thinking he's won, lowers his guard. Exactly as Goku had predicted. Goku scowled at King Piccolo. "So you only beat Ah Kum because you cheated!"
King Piccolo was confused as to why nothing was happening to Goku. Tien finally realized that Goku doesn't have the same tail weakness as Ah Kum. Goku takes advantage of this confusion to hard elbow King Piccolo in the gut. "There was no way Ah Kum would have lost to the likes of you if you didn't cheat!" Goku then proceeded to kick up King Piccolo's jaw performing a backflip and then a landing leap forward to deliver a clean punch to Piccolo's face sending him reeling in pain. King Piccolo was pushed back a good distance.
Piccolo noticed the attack was similar to Ah Kum's first punch. Annoyed at how two little kids were able to do so much damage to him he charges up to full power. He knows not to underestimate Goku if he has a last ditch attack, like Ah Kum, Goku might actually pose a threat to his life.
The battle then plays out like in the original. With Goku winning with two broken legs, and one broken arm. Piccolo still manages to spit out one last offspring with the rest of his power poured into it. Speeding forward a little bit, Yajirobe takes Goku to recover at Korin's Tower. Then he goes up to Kami's Lookout. Eventually meeting Mr. Popo and Kami. Goku mistakes Kami for King Piccolo but learns that King Piccolo is the evil side of Kami that Kami separated from himself many years ago. Shenron is revived and has good news for the group as he brings to life everyone killed by The Evil King Piccolo and his minions. He explains Goku's situation to everyone as Goku will now be training under Kami for three years until the next World Martial Arts Tournament.
Everyone worries about Ah Kum since she was the only one still not waking up. And just as fast as they worried, they start laughing when they hear Ah Kum start to snore. They let the little warrior rest for now after all she's gone through. Everyone in fact had a nice long rest.
Three days later Ah Kum wakes to the site of an alive Master Roshi, Krillin, and last but not least Chiaotzu. They were all training outside of Kame House. Bulma, the first to notice Ah Kum awake, shouted out to the others that Ah Kum was finally awake. Ah Kum steps towards Chiaotzu tears forming from her eyes.
"Chiaotzu…" Ah Kum stutters out Chiaotzu's name. Chiaotzu waves hello with a big smile. Ah Kum, before anyone could notice, has already placed her ear on Chiaotzu's chest to hear his heart beating. "You're Alive!" Tears start streaming down her face as she cries and hugs Chiaotzu very tightly. "You're alive! You're really alive!"
Tien joins in the hug picking the both of them up. "Welcome back Ah Kum."
Ah Kum looks at Tien confused. "I died?" She looks around and remembers that Krillin and Master Roshi should have been dead but are now alive. "Everyone is here?" Taking a moment to look around carefully she noticed one very important person missing. "Where's Goku?"
Tien puts them down and explains the situation to Ah Kum. After explaining everything Tien had a question to ask Ah Kum. "Is it true that you could have and almost defeated King Piccolo?"
Ah Kum balled up a fist and looked at it thinking about her failure. She then says, "I let my anger take over me again. I don't know exactly what happened after that but I do know that at the end I unleashed one final attack that almost killed King Piccolo. And it wasn't the Tri-Beam"
"Say, Ah Kum. How about we spar. I know how strong Goku and King Piccolo are. I want to see how you compare to them." Tien gets into his fighting pose.
"A spar! Yeah, let's do it. I like sparring with you. I hate sparring with Master Shen." Ah Kum gets into a similar pose as Tien.
"About Master Shen... No, I'll ask you later. Come at me!"
"Alright!" Ah Kum again faster than anyone could see, lands one solid punch on Tien's face sending him flying towards the sea. The punch was the same as the first punch Goku threw against King Piccolo. Surprised at her own strength and speed, she had thought she used the same amount of power in their usual sparring match.
Tien splashes into the water. Eventually swimming his way back placing a hand over his stinging face as he tells Ah Kum that it was enough sparring for now. Everyone else was also surprised how suddenly strong Ah Kum was now.
"If I knew that she was this strong I would have let Ah Kum beat King Piccolo in my stead." Master Roshi said with a wholehearted laugh.
"No, Master Roshi, I have a feeling Ah Kum only got this strong in response to Chiaotzu's death." Tien states. "Chiaotzu and I would have had to both be killed instead of you if you wanted her to beat Demon King Piccolo."
"Hey! Don't Talk About Dying Ever Again In Front Of Me!" Ah Kum pouts with small droplets of tears forming in her eyes. Her arms clenched to her sides.
Tien sees this and apologizes. "I didn't mean to upset you. I just meant you would have been able to beat King Piccolo if you didn't have that tail weakness.
"It's true. Looking at how you are now, you definitely seem just as strong as King Piccolo." Master Roshi comments. "If only you didn't have that tail weakness like Goku. We might have beaten King Piccolo a lot sooner."
"Which reminds me." Tien takes a moment to think how to phrase his sentence. "Ah Kum. Chiaotzu and I have decided to leave the Crane School. We're not joining the Turtle School or anything but at least now we don't have to listen to Master Shen. What do you say? Would you like to join us?"
Ah Kum lowers her head very hesitant on what to say. Tien and Chiaotzu waited in anticipation for her response. After a moment of silence Ah Kum says, "I also want to leave the Crane School."
"That's great!" Tien said with a smile of relief. Chiaotzu does the same.
"But... I don't want to join you."
"Huh? So what do you mean by that?" Both Tien and Chiaotzu were confused. The others just watch as to what will happen next.
"I'm too weak." Ah Kum opens and closes her palms. She contemplates joining her friends.
"There is no need to be modest. You're strong Ah Kum don't kid yourself."
"I couldn't protect us from Piccolo. I don't deserve to be with my friends because if I had been stronger no one else would have had to die." Ah Kum begins to demean herself. "I'm like Goku right? If so then I should have been able to beat King Piccolo. But I… I-I lost!"
"But you're not Goku!" Tien tries to console Ah Kum. "You don't need to be like him. You just need to be you."
"Well I don't know how to be me! I've never been me!" Ah Kum shouts, causing the earth around them to shake. "All this time I've always tried to be something someone wants me to be! If I need to be like Goku I need to get stronger! If I need to be an assassin I need to go back to Master Shen! If I need to be someone to kill King Piccolo I need to get rid of my tail!"
"Then what do you want to be!?" Chiaotzu shouts. To the shock of everyone. Ah Kum calmed down as Chiaotzu continued speaking, "What do you want to do? Where do you want to go? Why don't you speak up for yourself?"
"I… I… I don't know." Ah Kum looks away from Chiaotzu and now towards the water reflecting the day sky. "I think I want to find out for myself who I am."
"I see. You and Goku are alike in that aspect. Once you set your sights on something there is no stopping you." Tien closes his eyes with a smile of relief at the conclusion his friend had arrived at.
"Unless of course if you grabbed my tail, right?" Ah Kum grabs her own tail and laughs. Tien and Chiaotzu laugh along with her and soon everyone begins to laugh along.
With that the three year time skip occurs. Ah Kum went her separate way from Chiaotzu, Tien, Krillin, and Yamcha. They all promised to meet once again at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament!
We skip to three years later as Master Roshi and friends wait for the fighters Goku, Ah Kum, Tien, Chiaotzu, Krillin, and Yamcha. It was a rainy day at the sign up for the World Martial Art Tournament. Goku is the first to arrive, shocking everyone at his physical growth. They doubted his credibility until the rain had stopped and he revealed his hairstyle to be just like Goku.
No one with any doubt in their mind thinks that person was not Goku. After Goku's introduction a hooded woman as tall as Bulma wearing a stylish yellow raincoat approaches the group. Goku immediately recognizes her energy signature and senses an incredible power from her. Everyone else wonders who this woman could be.
"How's it going Goku!" The woman puts a hand up for a high five.
"It's going well. You've gotten really strong." Goku high fives her hand. "A bit too strong if you asked me." Goku then gave a small chuckle.
"I don't know how I got this strong either. But I can safely say I can protect my friends now." The woman lifts her hood.
"Ummm… Goku, you know this woman?" Roshi asked.
"Wait, that tail. Ah Kum!" Bulma said in surprise.
"Bulma!" Ah Kum goes to shake Bulma's hands. "It's great to see you again. I forgot to thank you for making that other dragon radar."
Bulma is confused as to what she meant since she doesn't remember making another dragon radar in the past few years. "What other dragon radar?"
"Oh shoot, I should have specified. I meant to thank you three years ago but forgot. If you hadn't made another dragon radar we wouldn't have found the dragon balls to wish everyone back to life."
"Ah… it was no problem. I should be thanking you for standing up to King Piccolo." Bulma said sheepishly remembering that Ah Kum did die partially because she was looking for the dragon ball to destroy King Piccolo.
"She's grown well in some areas too." Master Roshi said as he and Oolong ogled at Ah Kum's womanly charms.
Ah Kum showed a look of disgust, "I'm technically still underage Roshi. You try anything and I'll put you in jail."
Master Roshi and Oolong quickly look away in a panic as Roshi says, "I meant that you've grown as a person. And it looks like you learned a couple of new tricks."
"Men, am I right," Ah Kum had said, leaning into Bulma.
Bulma is just a bit culturally shocked at how Ah Kum after three years is speaking like a normal girl for once. "Yeah," Bulma says hesitantly.
"Come on Bulma. You're supposed to be on my side here," Ah Kum complained.
With that both Goku and Ah Kum sign up for the tournament. And now they wait for the other z fighters to arrive.
"So, Goku. You've trained under the Guardian of the Earth himself. You must be the strongest now." Ah Kum playfully jabs Goku.
Goku laughs and playfully jabs back. "I did get a lot stronger but I don't know if I can say I'm the strongest."
"Oh really." Ah Kum then leans in whispering into Goku's ear. "Want to have a fight. Right here. Right now."
Bulma and the others from their angle see this and think that Ah Kum was making a move on Goku. They didn't hear what exactly Ah Kum was saying but nonetheless they thought that Goku and Ah Kum must have suddenly fallen madly in love in their adolescent age.
Or at least that was what they would have thought if Goku didn't say anything. "I would love to fight you. But let's save that for the tournament. Wouldn't want to spoil the fun right?"
"Boo. That was no fun." Ah Kum playfully whined. "Oh well. I'll just have to see you in the tournament."
And just like that the sign up closes as a strong gust of wind passes by them. Tien, Chiaotzu, Krillin, and Yamcha all suddenly appear having just signed up for the tournament. Everyone is happy that they arrived.
Ah Kum especially as she immediately goes and Hugs Tien and then Chiaotzu to their shock. Krillin and Yamcha are a bit jealous that they didn't get the same welcoming from their female companions Bulma and Launch.
"Don't tell me. Ah Kum? Is that you?" Tien asks to confirm whether or not Ah Kum was really Ah Kum.
Taking a step back Ah Kum places her hand on her waist, smiles, and says, "Yep. The one and only."
"Wow you've grown so much." Tien says.
"It's great to see you again." Chiaotzu said after.
"And I thought I grew tall," Krillin said as he noticed a spiky haired Goku.
Goku and Krillin have their nice little reunion. After the reunion Ah Kum seeing that everyone is now here makes her move on Goku once again. She bows her head towards Goku confusing everyone. "I need to thank you and apologize to you properly, Goku."
"Thank me? Apologize? What for? And why are you bowing your head?" Goku asked even more confused now.
"From the bottom of my heart! Thank you Goku! I owe you my life!" Ah Kum shouts her gratitude. "Thank you for bringing Chiaotzu and I back to life! Thank You for defeating King Piccolo."
"Come on, stop that, you're making me blush." Goku tries to stop her.
"No, I still need to apologize."
"Hey." Tien puts a hand on Ah Kum's shoulder. "That's enough. This is the first time in three years we've all been together. No need to bring the mood down."
Ah Kum raises her head and looks at Tien with puppy dog eyes putting her hands together and says, "Just one apology?"
"Ah… … …" Tien, too stunned by Ah Kum's new personality, turned into stone.
"One apology seems fine," Chiaotzu says in place of Tien.
"Thanks Chiaotzu!" Ah Kum shouts for joy. Facing Goku and with one finger outstretched pointing at Goku she says, "I'm sorry but I'll be winning this entire tournament."
Goku narrows his eyes with a smile, "You might just be right. But I'll still do my best."
And speeding up a little bit, everyone goes and has a nice dinner together and rest up for the night. They do some catching up with each other. Telling stories of their adventures within the past three years. All but Goku because he fell asleep early. Luckily enough there wasn't a window in the room Ah Kum is staying in and thankfully too since there was a full moon that night.
"Hey, Tien?" Ah Kum said meekly. She was sitting up on her bed curled up into a ball.
"Yeah, what is it?" Tien said, turning to face her. He's laying down in his futon just below Ah Kum's bed. Chiaotzu is sound asleep in a futon next to Tien. "It's not like you to sound like that."
"Can I trauma dump onto you?" Ah Kum slightly shifts to look at Tien.
"Trauma what now?" Tien is surprised that Ah Kum knows so many things now. Thinking back at the topics they were discussing earlier in the day. Fashion, culinary arts, social skills, media, capsules, etc. Ah Kum had learned so many things in just three years. He wonders if she even trained her body at all.
"I want to trauma dump onto you." Ah Kum repeated.
"I get that but. Usually when someone does it they don't really tell the other person that they're going to do it."
"So it's a no? I get it. No worries. Good night!" Ah Kum then goes to lay down facing away from Tien.
Tien sits up and says in a friendly tone, "I get it. You just wanted to talk. What is it? I'm ready for whatever."
Ah Kum waits a moment before preparing herself to spill everything weighing on her mind for the past year. "I've learned a lot from these past few years. I did everything on my own. For once in my life I took control of it." Ah Kum then turned to face up towards the ceiling. "But I learnt of this thing called therapy. Where we go to an expert and they help deal with any trauma we may have. I also did some soul searching and found so many parts of me I didn't even know about."
"So you want me to be your therapist? I don't think I'm really fit to be one. It's not really my area of expertise just yet."
"No, I didn't mean for you to be my therapist. I already have one, his name is Korin. But there's just something I haven't told anyone. I don't trust anyone with it but you so I just wanted you to know."
"I guess you are close to being a grown adult now. I think you should ask Bulma more about what's developing with your body."
"I know what a period is!" Ah Kum shouts embarrassingly, turning to face Tien. Taking a breath to calm down she faces back at the ceiling. "I only started to see it clearly a year ago."
"See what?"
"I don't think I'm from this planet." Ah Kum reflects on the moments she looked at the sky day and night. She finally understood it was a sense of longing to be somewhere not from this planet. She learned about the solar system and how there could be life on other planets.
"Huh? What do you mean, not from this planet?" Tien was definitely shocked at hearing this news.
"I don't know? Every night when I go to sleep. I see a man from a rose tinted glass. He's with someone who looks like Goku but much much older. And with a scar on his face. They wave me goodbye as I fly away from a planet. I don't know why but every time I try to remember who they are I cry." Ah Kum's eyes start to tear up. "I don't know if it's just my imagination or not. But at the same time I'm scared to remember who they are." Ah Kum begins to shiver, her voice starts to shake. She hugs herself tightly for warmth as she feels this overwhelming chill of space. "It's suffocating. So much so sometimes I wished I had stayed dead—"
"Do not say you are better dead than alive." Tien said sternly at that very moment.
Ah Kum suddenly appeared in front of Tien, placing her head onto Tien's chest. "I'm scared Tien. I'm scared I might be the one who kills everyone."
"What makes you think you're going to kill everyone?"
"This voice in my head. It's telling me that it's my mission to conquer this planet. It's telling me to get rid of any obstacles that get in the way of this mission. I don't want to be like King Piccolo. I don't want to kill anyone. I haven't done any real training in the past three years yet but my powers keep growing."
Tien noticed how cold Ah Kum had gotten. She was like a block of ice. It was as if her body was lifeless. Tien doesn't know how to handle this. This was the first time Ah Kum had opened up so much about herself. Tien grabbed his blanket and wrapped it around Ah Kum. He chooses not to say anything since it might just get Ah Kum to feel even worse.
"I enjoy it, you know." Ah Kum starts to cackle. "I hate that I find enjoyment in it!" Tien doesn't speak up and instead lets Ah Kum finish her thought. "I enjoy hurting people. Destroying their lives. Torturing them to no end. I feel joy from it." Ah Kum starts to laugh hysterically, waking up Chiaotzu in the process. "Am I going crazy Tien. I just don't know it anymore."
Eventually Ah Kum fell unconscious after pouring her heart out. Tien puts her back on her bed. He wonders if bringing her to Master Shen all those years ago was the correct choice. The trauma of the harsh training was definitely catching up to her mind, Tien thought. Maybe if he left her alone all those years ago she might have gone down a different path. A carefree, fight loving, simple minded person like Goku. Or maybe he shouldn't have let her go alone three years ago and they could've helped her work through her trauma.
Tien in his travels with Krillin and Yamcha heard stories of how Goku grew up having been loved by his family and friends, enjoying life to the fullest as a child, wanting to learn how to fight, and fighting to protect those he holds dear. He can't help but wonder if Ah Kum was jealous of Goku. After all their travels, many places they've visited sing praise in Goku's name. He also can't help but wonder if he had stolen Ah Kum's childhood.
She was beaten to near death on her first day of training. Then without even asking if she wanted to learn how to fight he just assumed that since she didn't complain she didn't dislike fighting. Not only that she didn't exactly succeed at protecting those she held dear. She probably chose to learn about the things Goku chose not to because she couldn't be like Goku. She was more different from Goku than they were alike. Tien considered how to approach her after the tournament was over.
"Tien, is Ah Kum going to be okay?" Chiaotzu asked, hearing most of the last bit of information Ah Kum had poured out.
"I don't know, Chiaotzu. I just don't know." Tien replied. "Maybe Master Shen's training scarred her much deeper than we can ever have imagined."
The sun rises as the tournament finally is held. Everyone dons their fight gi. Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha custom made their own Turtle School gi in advance knowing that Master Roshi wouldn't do it for them since he sees that they have outgrown him.
Tien and Chiaotzu wear similar outfits to what they were wearing during the 22nd tournament. Ah Kum however wears a completely different outfit. Now donning a red, green, and yellow crop top shirt and jacket with a combat skirt the length of her knees. She's also back to a cheerful self seemingly ignoring what had happened last night.
"Looking good," Krillin says as he and Yamcha admired her fair complexion.
Tien, seeing Ah Kum as a little sister, goes and smacks Krillin and Yamcha on their heads. And like a worried Mother Tien says, "Don't you think that's showing a little too much skin?"
"Speak for yourself. Mr. I Take My Shirt Off During A Fight." Ah Kum makes fun of Tien for always taking his shirt off during a fight.
"She's right, Tien. You do always take your shirt off during fights." Goku unknowingly aided in embarrassing Tien. Krillin and Yamcha laugh along with Ah Kum at the truth. Tien blushes red and accepts this defeat. Chiaotzu did not understand exactly what was so funny but decided to laugh along with the others.
Then Goku sees a very distinct green skinned demon. Piccolo Jr has made his appearance. Everyone gets serious for a moment, noticing how Goku got serious. Tien, Ah Kum, and Chiaotzu also recognize that the green man may be one of Piccolo's minions or maybe even Piccolo himself.
During the stare down to the shock of only Yamcha and Krillin, Ah Kum walks over to Piccolo.
"Ah Kum, wait!" Tien also stepped forward but Goku put out an arm stopping him. "Goku, what are you doing? That's—"
"It's okay Tien. Just watch." Goku says confidently.
"Fine. But if anything happens I'm stepping in." Tien complies with Goku's request.
Ah Kum takes out a hand intending to shake Piccolo's hand. "Hi. I'm Ah Kum. What's your name?" Ah Kum says this with a devilish smile.
Piccolo smacks her hand away and says, "You can call me Jr." Piccolo then walks away disappearing into the small crowd of contestants.
Everyone takes a moment to take in what just happened. Ah Kum turns around and quickly walks to Tien whining. "Tien! That green guy bullied me! He smacked my hand." Ah Kum showed the hand that was smacked to Tien. Tien took a look at her hand and nothing was wrong with it. "Well…" Ah Kum waited a moment. "What are you going to do about it?"
"Ummm…"
"Ummm. That's it? I'm hurt badly and all you do is say, ummm?" Ah Kum playfully cried out. "I'm hurt."
Goku laughs. "Ah Kum, stop pretending. That did nothing to you." Ah Kum shows him his hand and Goku takes a look and Goku was correct there was nothing wrong with her hand. "That hit would have broken a bone or two if it were us before."
When Goku said that, everyone was shocked again. Tien was angry that Piccolo would try to break her hand. "No, no. It's not fun anymore if you tell them the answer." Ah Kum sighs then shrugs. "Oh well. There's no point in playing pretend if everyone is going to think it's pretend anyway. Speaking of which, what happened with your tail? Don't pretend you never had one to begin with." Ah Kum looked for Goku's now nonexistent tail.
"My tail? Oh right, you still have yours." Goku says and everyone finally notices that Goku doesn't have a tail anymore. "Kami said that he could rebuild the moon if I permanently removed it. Speaking of which, did you get over your tail weakness?"
Wagging her still existing tail, Ah Kum laughs. "You really took not having a tail weakness to the next level. Oh and of course I got over my tail weakness. Give it a tug if you want."
"Now wait just a moment!" Another woman walks in between Ah Kum and Goku. "Just what is your relationship with Goku?"
"Huh? Uhmm? Well we're friends." Ah Kum responded in confusion. Everyone else is confused about who this new woman is.
"Uh. Who are you?" Goku asked, to the annoyance of the woman.
Dispirited and saddened, the woman turned and shouts angrily at Goku. "YOU FOOL!" Ah Kum picks up on this social cue and giggles very loudly only upsetting the woman. The woman then leaves angrily.
With that the preliminary rounds begin as everyone begins to line up to draw lots. Tien tells Chiaotzu to rig it so that they don't have to fight each other. Ah Kum notices this and whispers over to Chiaotzu to put herself up against the woman and Chiaotzu complies.
The elimination matches begin and everything goes well until Chiaotzu faces off against a roboticized Mercenary Tao. Tien expects Ah Kum to be angry. Tien himself is extra angry. But knowing that Chiaotzu was alive was enough to keep Ah Kum calm. Everyone was surprised at Ah Kum's calmness. However Goku and Ah Kum both know that wasn't the case. It is taking everything in her whole mind and body to not just kill Mercenary Tao right where he stood.
Eventually after a couple of more matches and using them to cool off it was now Ah Kum's turn to go up against the mysterious woman in the finals of the preliminary elimination rounds. They both get in the assigned arena. They both get ready to fight.
"So how do you know Goku?" The woman asked as she got into a fighting pose.
"We met here. In this tournament. Where did you meet Goku?" Ah Kum answered and asked the same question back.
"I met him when he helped put out the fire in my home." The woman then proceeded to throw the first punch.
Ah Kum easily catching the punch with one hand holding it she eyes down the woman with a murderous aura. The woman undeterred tries another punch to which is caught by Ah Kum's other hand. The woman not being able to get away gets headbutted by Ah Kum, drawing blood. The woman still ready to fight goes for a kick. Ah Kum blocks with a knee and lets go of the woman's hands.
"You're not going to win. I know we both know it. So I just want to ask before continuing. Why do you fight so hard?" Ah Kum asked.
"Because there's someone I need to fight!" The woman shouts as she throws a flurry of punches and kicks at Ah Kum.
Ah Kum sits there and takes all the hits. It doesn't do much to harm her. "How about this then." Ah Kum grabs hold of one of the woman's legs and breaks it. This shocks everyone especially when the woman starts to scream in pain. "I'm going to start breaking every single bone in your body. If you still can confidently say you want to fight that someone then I'll give up."
"Ah Kum! What are you saying just throw her out of the arena and be done with it already!" Tien shouts not wanting Ah Kum to go down that path.
Ah Kum just states at Tien and Goku knowing full well that they would try and stop her.
"Why are you doing this Ah Kum?" Goku asked.
Ah Kum then turned to look at the now fallen woman. Ah Kum walked over to her and pulled her up with one hand by the hair. The woman winces in pain as Ah Kum gave her answer, "This woman clearly wants to fight you if you dense men can't tell! I want to see just how much she is willing to give up for that chance to fight. A leg? An arm? Maybe even her life, although she can't fight you here if she's dead. Maybe she'll get the chance in the afterlife."
"Stop this Ah Kum! This is a tournament not a life or death battle!" Tien shouts with a sweat drop going down his face.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to kill the woman." Ah Kum tosses the woman down at the center of the arena. "I'm only going to slowly break her body." Ah Kum says that with the most cheerful smile Tien has seen from her.
"Hey referee. End the match already as you can see she clearly lost the match already." Tien tries to convince the judge to end the match. He found a loophole in Ah Kum's logic. She doesn't want to kill the woman because of the tournament rules. Meaning that if the match continues and the woman is still alive, conscious, and doesn't want to give up, Ah Kum can continue doing whatever she wants. But if the ref calls the match then Ah Kum won't be doing anymore.
The referee hesitates to end the match especially with Ah Kum deathly glare targeting the referee. The woman slowly gets to her feet and gets in a fighting position as she says, "I can still fight!"
"No you idiot! Give up! You can't win against her!" Tien shouts. He's about to jump into the arena.
"Tien. You better stay in your place! You are mocking this woman's determination." Ah Kum shouts. "Look at her. Even though she knows she'll lose. Even though she knows she is going to have every bone in her body broken bit by bit. She chooses to stand and fight. All because of Goku."
"Goku, we can't just sit here and watch!" Tien now tries to convince Goku to help.
"I don't know Tien. We might get disqualified if we step in now." Goku responds.
"Forget disqualification! Ah Kum is basically telling us she's going to put someone close to death in the most painful way possible!"
Mercenary Tao begins to laugh at Tien's futile attempts to stop Ah Kum. Ah Kum shoots a small but lethal blast of ki at the woman then redirects it nearly hitting Mercenary Tao's head as it shoots cleanly through the wall of the building. "Oops, my hand slipped. I was aiming to break another leg."
"You insolent little!" Tao was about to do something but was then immediately intimidated by Ah Kum's murderous aura. "You're lucky you're not fighting me up there!" Tao said, trying to save face.
Ah Kum goes back to facing the woman. "Well, can you still say you can fight!"
"How about you do less talking?" The woman smirks knowing full well that her bones will be breaking in the next few moments.
Ah Kum breaks her arm in the blink of an eye. The woman tries to throw a punch with her other arm. Ah Kum grabs hold of that wrist and breaks it. "Hmmm... We're moving too fast. Most of your limbs might start to go numb at this point." Everyone hears a crack then and the woman screams. Ah Kum says, "That was your radius bone." Another crack. "That was your Ulna. Do you know what's next?" The woman tries to free herself to no avail. Ah Kum chuckled to herself, "That was your humorous, get it humorous because the bone I broke was your humerus." No one finds this joke very funny beside Tao but knowing that he might get his head blown off he decides it would be in his best interest not to.
The woman goes to headbut Ah Kum and Ah Kum stops it by palming the woman's face. "We can't go straight to the skull. That might kill you." Ah Kum breaks a rib. "We need to work our way up. Oh that's right you still have your other leg." Ah Kum goes to break it to the horror of everyone else in the room.
"Due to the fighter's inability to get up Ah—"
"This fight isn't over yet!" Ah Kum interrupts the referee. Glaring at him made him feel like she was a death god incarnate. "You say one more word and you're dead."
Tien steps in front of the referee. "Referee, finish your statement and end the match. Anything that happens after I'll take responsibility."
"Tien stay out of this!"
"You won't kill me! So just stop with the threats! She can't even fight back anymore!" Tien shouts.
"Try me." Ah Kum holds up a Dodon Ray blast. Tien doesn't move. And he was right that Ah Kum wouldn't fire the Dodon ray.
"Hey… Our fight isn't over yet!" The woman managed to speak through the pain. "Come finish what you started!"
Ah Kum turns around gleefully, "Oh that's right. I almost forgot about you."
"Ref, please declare the match before it's too late!" Tien shouts.
"Let's just skip to the skull then!"
"Goku please!" Tien pleads with Goku to help.
Goku notices that Ah Kum was holding herself back and takes notice of a certain little green bean in her hand as he himself was about to intervene. He then stops himself believing in Ah Kum's good nature. And thankfully this time he was correct in thinking that as Ah Kum forces the woman to eat the bean.
Ah Kum stares down the woman with her palm covering her mouth. Tien then shouts at the referee, "Conclude the match already!"
"F-fighter number 59 is clearly unable to battle! Number—"
"I give up." Ah Kum walks out of the ring. Surprising everyone but Goku.
"What!" Tien not knowing why Ah Kum would just cripple an opponent only to give up the next moment. "You can't be serious."
The unnamed woman suddenly felt no more pain. In fact she felt even better than before. She even felt feelings back from her arms and legs. She gets up, to the surprise of everyone, unharmed. Like all the things that happened to her didn't happen at all. The only proof that something had happened to her was her own blood on her outfit.
"Ummm… Fighter Ah Kum has unexpectedly given up? Moving on to the quarter final is fighter number 59?" The referee announced and was scared for his life fully expecting something to happen to him. Although nothing does.
Ah Kum continues to walk away and towards the exit. Tien wants to stop and ask what she did it all for if she was just going to give up but he was called for his final fight. Goku again stops Tien telling him to finish his fight quickly and that he will talk with Ah Kum since he was already finished with all of his fights. Tien accepts as he goes to quickly win his fight, returning with Goku and Ah Kum nowhere in sight. Yamcha and Krillin also had no idea since they were also called up for their final matches. They quickly leave to search for Goku and Ah Kum before the quarter finals starts. Leaving the announcer to sort out the matchups for himself.
Meanwhile somewhere a bit away from the tournament. Goku confronts Ah Kum. "So why did you do it?"
"Do what? Break all her bones just to heal them." Ah Kum said sarcastically.
"Sarcasm doesn't suit you Ah Kum. Why'd you give up? Didn't you say you wanted to fight me?"
"She wanted to fight you more."
"Then why did you walk away? You made Tien worry. Chiaotzu was already hurt badly as it is."
"I wonder, Goku. Do you ever get that feeling where you want to kill someone?" Ah Kum turns to face Goku with a smile. "Do you enjoy it when you take the light out of their eyes?"
Goku takes a moment to think. "I admit. I do get that feeling. When I'm angry enough at my enemies I want to kill them. But I never enjoyed taking their lives!"
"That's where you and I differ, Goku. Throughout my travels I've met some of the people you saved. They kept comparing me to you. We're strong, fast, ready to help whenever needed. But where you chose to save I want to kill. I enjoy destruction, Goku. But I chose not to because I don't want Chiaotzu and Tien to get involved. I'm holding myself back for them. So go and enjoy the tournament. When it's all over, I'll prove to you who's the strongest." Ah Kum begins to walk away.
"Are you still going to leave even if I told you that King Piccolo himself is participating at the tournament?"
Ah Kum doing a full one-eighty and appearing right in front of Goku's face she questions in a very cold manner and serious tone, "What did you just say!?"
"King Piccolo is in the tournament you just gave up on."
Ah Kum pats Goku on the back, "Well why didn't you just say so. Let's go pay him a visit."
"No, I just want you to watch."
"Huh? To watch?" Ah Kum's energy begins to rise. "You want me to watch as my friend's killer gets away scot free?"
"No, I want you to protect Tien and the others. I can't fight at my full strength knowing they're in danger." Goku then states very confidently, "I know you love protecting Tien and Chiaotzu much more than you enjoy hurting others."
Ah Kum is stunned. Although Goku doesn't know much about social interaction, he is weirdly good at reading a person's character. "I'll watch under one condition."
"What is it?"
"You better not die like I did."
"Deal." Goku shakes Ah Kum's hand as they make their way back to see the start of Tien and Mercenary Tao fight.
"Goku! You made it back in time." Krillin said. He then notices Ah Kum and gets a bit scared for a moment, "Hello, Ah Kum."
"Sorry for disappearing, did we get disqualified?" Goku asked, scratching the back of his head.
"No, not at all. The quarter final matches just started." Yamcha clarifies for Goku. "It's Tien against Tao."
Ah Kum was already intently watching not at the fight but at a certain someone in the crowd. When the fight escalated to Tao pulling out a knife and being disqualified Ah Kum points a Dodon Ray at both Tao and Master Shen in the crowd.
"It's not worth it Ah Kum!" Tien shouts at Ah Kum. "You're better than that! Lower your hands."
Tao and Shen mocks Tien for his kindness and Ah Kum for listening to him and not them. "Tien, if you let them say another word I'm going to kill them." Ah Kum lowers her hands.
Tien then quickly knocks out Mercenary Tao waiting for a ten count then after the count is over Tien picks him up and tosses him towards Master Shen. "I advise you not to talk and to leave while you still can." Tien said with an expressionless face.
"Don't—" A Dodon ray was immediately fired at Master Shen as he uttered just one word. Goku intervened as he nudged Ah Kum's hand just a little bit shifting the beam upward.
Ah Kum was annoyed at Goku but focused on her goal of murder. When she turned back to look for Shen and Tao, Tien was already in front of her. A sense of dread came over Ah Kum. She was frozen.
Tien's face was stern and cold. He raises one hand up and slaps her across the face. The slap reverberated through the arena. Silencing everyone and everything who heard or saw the slap.
For Ah Kum this slap felt different. It hurts so much more than anything she has ever felt before. Even dying felt a lot nicer than what she was feeling now. She places a hand on where she was slapped. It didn't actually hurt her physically so it's taking her a bit of time to understand why it hurts so much. Tien doesn't say anything else as he walks away. Ah Kum wanted to cry but nothing came out. She wanted to disappear but she couldn't move. So she stands there unmoving. The others are a bit concerned but choose to leave them alone for the time being.
Goku explains a little bit about what's going on with Ah Kum. Her having to grapple with liking to harm people yet wanting to protect people at the same time. The group took pity on her while at the same time understanding where she is coming from being raised by cold hearted killers.
"This is a matter of the heart and mind. She is struggling with who she is and what she wants to be." Master Roshi had snuck up on the crew and threw in his thoughts on the matter.
"Master Roshi, do you have some insight in helping Ah Kum through this?" Goku asks. He then was called up for his match. Goku is annoyed having to leave without hearing what Master Roshi had to say.
"Sadly, there is nothing we can do. Only the people closest to her heart can do anything. Tien and Chiaotzu are the only two people left in her world. It's a very delicate matter that teeters on the edge of good and evil. It's not something that can heal over time without a little pushing. But if pushed too much to be good it might rebound and make her fall to her evil desires. But leaving her alone now won't bring her peace of mind. Tien probably understands this and is now keeping her at arm's length."
"Poor Ah Kum. And I thought I had a rough childhood." Krillin said, trying to lighten up the mood. "She looks so cheerful but is hiding so much anguish behind it."
"Hey, Tien has known Ah Kum for much longer than anyone here. If he needs our help I'm sure he'll ask." Yamcha said, trying to direct the conversation towards something else. "Goku's match has already started."
They then all turn to look as Goku has already finished his match and now has the woman hugging his arm by his side. She introduces herself as Chichi, Goku's soon to be wife, to the shock of everyone.
They question whether or not she was okay with Ah Kum to which Chichi said, "Oh that. It was just a catfight. No one was harmed. Between her and I, although it hurted so much I like to thank her for giving me the chance to move to the quarter final to face off against Goku. There's not much I could do even if I resent her."
"Ah Kum fought her and got into an existential crisis. Goku fights her and gets a wife." Krillin comments. "Just how different could they be?"
"A whole lot if you ask me." Yamcha replied.
With that the next couple of fights play out the same. Krillin vs Ma Jr (aka Piccolo) and then Yamcha vs Hero (Aka Kami in a human disguise). Ah Kum continued to stay still until it was time for Tien and Goku to fight, finally coming back to reality. Ah Kum could already see the difference in power and speed. The only discrepancy was Goku's speed. To which was quickly answered as Goku took his weighted clothes off.
Ah Kum could now see Tien was leagues below her in terms of speed and power. But for some reason the single slap she gave her was so quick and so powerful. She knew Goku would win. But she hoped Tien would pull through and win against Goku once again. She finds it hard to accept that Tien will lose.
She was alone as Hero (Kami in disguise) walks over to talk with her. Giving her some guidance since he does not want to see another Piccolo running around in the world. "Reality can be cruel sometimes." Ah Kum notices Hero (Kami in disguise). "When facing inner conflict within yourself it's not good to prefer one side over the other but instead to satisfy both and let them coexist." Hero (Kami in disguise) then walks towards the arena for his match with Piccolo. "But you didn't hear that from me though. I'm a hypocrite after all."
The match begins and soon after a small fight Kami gets a reverse uno card on his Evil Containment Wave. Piccolo seals Kami in a danish jar. We get the usual Piccolo provokes Goku by swallowing the jar. But wait here's the difference. Ah Kum's power level as of right now is 500. So before Piccolo could swallow the jar Ah Kum snatched it from within his mouth, surprising everyone.
Goku, relieved, asks Ah Kum to unseal Kami. To which Ah Kum refuses.
"No?! This isn't funny, Ah Kum!" Goku pleaded. Piccolo laughs. The others are scared of the fact Ah Kum might take Piccolo's side.
Tien stares at Ah Kum with no doubts as to where she stands. That alone was enough for Ah Kum to see which side to be on. Laughing to herself she opens the bottle. "You guys should see the look on your face." Ah Kum had a very clear mind. She wasn't exactly at peace with herself but she knew the steps to reach there now after watching Kami fight Piccolo.
Every audience member is scared for their life as they see a King Piccolo look alike. There was no use in hiding it now that Kami has been revealed. Ma Jr then revealed himself as King Piccolo reincarnated. Goku, Kami, and Ah Kum weren't all that surprised. Everyone else however was. The audience members all ran away in a panic. Suddenly the entire world knew that Piccolo was alive and at the World Martial Arts Tournament fighting Goku in the final.
"Now's our chance Goku. With Ah Kum's help you can put an end to the reign of King Piccolo!" Kami shouts.
"It seems you've missed something, Kami." Tien says everyone there now focused on him. "Ah Kum will not interfere with the fight. Not because she doesn't want to. But because that's who she is."
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Goku agrees with Tien.
"Fools! This was how Piccolo managed to kill Ah Kum before. It was because you two weren't fighting together! Now that you both are here Piccolo stands no chance of winning."
"You may be right. But what's the fun in that? Am I right?" Ah Kum says as she casually walks to Piccolo eyeing him down.
Piccolo understands that it would be difficult if both of them came at him at the same time. After all, he knew from his memories of King Piccolo that Goku and Ah Kum have similar strength. Although he has confidence that even if they had both fought him he would win. Piccolo walks back to the arena and shouts, "The intermission is over come at me with however many people you want I'll win all the same!"
"Goku, you can't be serious!" Kami pleaded with Goku.
"How about I kill anyone who interferes in the fight?" Ah Kum jests.
"Ah Kum I don't think it's time to joke around. Although I hate to admit. We shouldn't get involved. Sure even if Piccolo defeats Goku we still have Ah Kum right here to pick up where he left off." Ah Kum holds up a peace sign as Tien continues speaking. "And unlike before Piccolo won't have any time to recover since Ah Kum again is right here."
"Oh yeah, and even if Goku is killed we can wish him back with the dragon balls." Krillin speaks up. "It's a win-win situation."
Kami sees only one fault in their logic being that if Goku dies then Ah Kum Kills Piccolo the dragon balls will also disappear because he himself will die. Although Kami doesn't want to tell them this information. Goku however already knows and so he goes and says, "No, that won't work. If Piccolo dies Kami dies. If Kami dies the dragon balls goes with him."
This revelation shocks everyone, even Ah Kum. She went back to the slow processing brain power to help with her need to destroy. Ah Kum however doesn't change her mind. Tien respects her decision and does the same. The others are now hesitant. Goku reassures that he would win and walks to the arena where Piccolo was waiting. The announcer is still there to referee and commentate the match.
We already know the outcome, Goku wins. More easily so because he didn't have to worry about Piccolo using his friends as a hostage with Ah Kum around. Piccolo lay defeated in a crater outside the arena. Goku near death is announced the winner.
Yajirobe arrives with some senzu beans and gives one to Goku. Goku getting all his energy back and his wounds healed jumps for joy. Ah Kum asks for a senzu herself and Yajirobe complies. Tien wonders why she asked for one but doesn't ask. Kami stands over the defeated Piccolo and is about to deal the finishing blow until Goku steps in the way. Ah Kum then casually feeds Piccolo a senzu to the horror of everyone but Goku.
"You know, Goku. It's not fair that you got to live after fighting Piccolo first." Ah Kum says as Piccolo jumps up into the air floating to see why Ah Kum had helped him.
Everyone besides Tien thinks Ah Kum had switched sides. Goku however just laughs. "I don't know. I lost to King Piccolo the first time I fought him but the dragon ball saved me. Maybe that was the real difference between us."
"You're right." A light bulb lit up in Ah Kum's head. "He killed the dragon so the dragon ball couldn't have saved me." Ah Kum then said sarcastically.
Piccolo feeling ignored then goes on a monologue about how it was foolish for Ah Kum to help him and that he was going to come back stronger to take over the world.
Tien then says, "Ah Kum."
"Yeah?" Ah Kum responds back.
"The tournament's over."
"Yeah."
With a smile on Tien's face he says, "Go have some fun."
Hearing what Tien said, a genuine smile formed in Ah Kum's face. She flies towards Piccolo at breakneck speeds. And with one punch she sends Piccolo flying far away. She then unleashes a huge unnamed ki attack aimed at Piccolo but not directly so it doesn't kill him.
"I do hope she continues to be on our side. If she ever wanted to conquer the world I'm afraid even Goku and I wouldn't stand a chance the way we are now." Kami says as he leaves.
And with that comes the conclusion of Dragon Ball. A short epilogue of the events going forward:

(Elaborating on what happened after Ah Kum punched Piccolo)
Ah Kum flies back down to Goku and flings him in the air.
"Tien what is she doing exactly?" Krillin asks.
"She's being herself." Tien said as he got flung up into the air.
"Alright, who's next?" Ah Kum said.
"Why are you throwing them up there?" Chichi asked just before she was thrown up into the air.
Soon one by one everyone still there got thrown up into the sky. Not even Kami or the announcer was safe as she tossed them up into the sky too. Then after everyone there was in the sky Ah Kum she explodes with one big energy blast destroying what was left of the city for fun. And no one was harmed in the making of this explosion. Ah Kum had even caught all of them and brought them down safely. Master Roshi was especially happy being touched by Ah Kum. So she drops him part of the way down. Goku and Chichi however had already left on the flying nimbus.
"Has she gone crazy," Yajirobe whispers onto Yamcha after landing down next to him.
"Don't ask me? They're the experts here." Yamcha points to Master Roshi who was struggling just a bit to get up from being flipped on his back.
Joyfully jumping up and down while holding onto Tien's hand Ah Kum says, "Hey Tien! Can I blow up that city next?"
Tien sighs, not knowing what else to do with Ah Kum. "Just do it in moderation please."
"Yay!" Ah Kum flies off in the direction of a city.
"And please don't kill anyone! It's already a hassle enough with the property damage!" Tien shouts at the slowly fading Ah Kum. "And come back before nightfall!"
"Okay!" Ah Kum shouts back.
"Are you sure you're okay with this choice, Tien?" Master Roshi spoke up. "That's a whole lot of people's lives ruined because of her."
"At least that's better than her killing, torturing, murdering, dismembering, breaking, and tearing people apart. She needs an outlet since she's been holding herself back for our sake. So let her go crazy for a while and I'll deal with the aftermath later. After all, buildings can be rebuilt, plants can regrow, but lives without the dragon balls can't be brought back." Tien says. "Wait… That direction… Chiaotzu's over there!" Realizing where Ah Kum was headed he rushes over to her.
"I sure do hope she continues to be carefree like that. If she ever wanted to conquer the world I'm afraid even Goku wouldn't stand a chance the way he is now." Kami says as he leaves.
