Naruto is now heading towards Vermillion City. Soon, he had to jump backward as a Raticate attacked him from the side. The Raticate was hissing, and he heard a familiar voice. He sighed, "Cassidy and Butch," he called out.
Cassidy and Butch appeared out of the woods with murderous intentions and something else. "Primeape, use Fire Punch now," Butch ordered his Pokémon. It did as it was told.
Naruto ducked under. Pikachu hopped off Naruto's shoulder and disappeared using Quick Attack. "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt," Naruto called out. Pikachu obeyed and attacked Primeape with a powerful Thunderbolt.
While this was going on, the Tyrogue egg was starting to hatch. A few seconds later, it hatched, revealing Tyrogue. The baby Fighting-type was throwing punches.
Cassidy and Butch saw the baby and decided to take it. Butch smirked, "Primeape, grab that Tyrogue and bring it to us," he called out. Naruto heard the command, so he decided to even the odds. "Charmeleon, come on out," Naruto called as he threw Charmeleon's ball up, and the Fire-type emerged in front of Tyrogue.
Charmeleon's flame on its tail burned brightly. The Primeape didn't slow down its charge, so Naruto commanded his starter, "Charmeleon, use Flamethrower." Charmeleon did as it was told. "Pikachu, use Quick Attack and get on Raticate's back and use Spark," he ordered her. Pikachu obeyed. She vanished from sight and reappeared behind the Raticate, hopped onto the rat Pokémon, and used Spark, making the Raticate screech in pain.
Charmeleon used Flamethrower and hit its mark. The Primeape screeched in pain as it was being burned. Before anyone could do anything, a snake-like Pokémon wrapped around Primeape and Raticate and threw them against Cassidy and Butch.
They looked up as a red-headed teenager emerged from the shadows of the trees. "Interesting. You have the nerve to try and take a trainer's Pokémon. How Team Rocket-like," said the red-headed girl with an annoyed expression.
Butch and Cassidy were shocked, to say the least. "W-what?" said Cassidy. Butch was equally, if not more, shocked than Cassidy. "W-hat? Jessie!" he exclaimed after snapping out of his shock. "Really, Jessie, why?" Cassidy asked with a sad expression.
Jessie replied, "Hmm, none of your business. Ekans, use Poison Sting," she commanded. While Naruto tossed an empty ball at Tyrogue, it sucked the young Fighting-type in and dinged instantly.
Butch glared at Naruto when he noticed that Naruto had caught him while they weren't looking. "Brat, hand over that Tyrogue; it now belongs to Team Rocket," he demanded. Naruto calmly walked up to the Tyrogue ball and picked it up. "Butch, shut up," Naruto told the older man, which upset Butch. He then recalled his Primeape and chose a Zubat. As it emerged, he grinned, "Now you're in for it, brats," he told Jessie and Naruto.
Jessie walked to stand beside Naruto and commanded, "Ekans, use Poison Sting and follow it up with Acid," and Ekans obeyed. The Zubat screeched in pain and flew back to Butch, who sighed, "Cassidy, let's go," as Cassidy returned her Raticate to its Poké Ball and they ran off—but not before Naruto said, "Oh, they're getting away! Pikachu, use Thunder Wave!" he called out.
Pikachu obeyed, and the move hit the targets, rendering them unable to move. Naruto walked up to them and tied them up. When he was done, they heard the sound of a motorbike engine and looked to see that it was Officer Jenny.
She came to a stop and looked at the scene. "What's going on here?" she asked in a firm tone. Naruto then stepped forward and replied, "These two who are tied up are Cassidy and Butch of Team Rocket. They tried to take my newborn Pokémon," he said, frowning as he thought about his new addition—they would have gotten his new Pokémon if he hadn't brought out Charmeleon.
He recalled his Pokémon, as did Jessie. Naruto walked up to Officer Jenny. "Officer Jenny?" he called. She turned toward him, "Yeah?" she replied, wondering what he wanted. "Are you going to arrest Cassidy and Butch?" he asked with a curious expression.
She nodded and radioed in for backup. "Kids, you should be going now," she told them. And so, Naruto and Jessie started to walk toward Vermillion City.
A few hours later…
Naruto is sitting in a clearing with Jessie. He decides to take out the electrical parts and other components and begins crafting a new device—a portable videophone. He has a screen and everything.
Jessie watches with a curious expression as her new friend works on his invention. A few minutes later, Naruto finishes the device.
Naruto turns the device on, and it powers up as expected. He then retrieves his laptop, plugs the core into the new device, and after a few minutes, he tests it by calling the professor.
Naruto dials Professor Oak's number.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Professor Oak picks up.
"Oh! Hey, Naruto. How are you doing today?" Professor Oak asks.
"I'm fine. I'm just testing out my new device," Naruto says with a smile.
Professor Oak nods. "Oh? What's this?" he asks with a curious expression.
"It's a portable videophone," Naruto tells him.
Professor Oak grins, intrigued by the invention. Since portable videophones haven't been made yet, he decides to ask Naruto something.
"Naruto, my boy, are you willing to show that videophone to Devon Corporation?" Professor Oak asks with interest.
Naruto thinks for a minute. "Let me think on it for a few days. I still have to fix some kinks so it can work better," he says.
The professor nods, and they end the call.
Naruto sets the portable videophone down, then looks something up on his laptop. He discovers that more regions are being explored—by people from Kanto, who are being welcomed by the people of the newer regions.
Naruto sighs, stands up, yawns, sets up his tent, and climbs inside to sleep. Jessie enters the tent and lies beside him, quickly drifting off as well.
The next day…
Naruto and Jessie wake up bright and early.
Naruto decides to cook a simple breakfast of eggs and bacon. He also makes toasted bread. He sets a plate in front of Jessie, with his own in front of him, and they pray in thanks for the food.
Naruto cleans up, but Jessie decides to help. Afterward, Naruto packs his tent, and they begin walking toward Vermillion City.
A few minutes later, they run into an Ace Trainer.
The Ace Trainer smirks arrogantly. "I challenge you to a battle, boy," he says.
Naruto sighs and nods. "You go first," he tells the older boy.
"You're going to regret that," the Ace Trainer says.
"I choose you, Machop!" The Ace Trainer tosses Machop's Poké Ball, releasing the Pokémon.
Naruto sighs and decides to use Zubat. He tosses Zubat's Poké Ball, and the Pokémon emerges, having leveled up alongside the others.
The Ace Trainer smirks. "Hah! That bat of yours doesn't have anything on my Machop," he says with a laugh.
Naruto frowns. "Really? Interesting. We'll find out, won't we?" he replies.
Zubat hovers in front of Naruto, a question mark appearing over its head. No one pays attention to it as the match is about to begin.
The Ace Trainer grins. "Machop, use Dual Chop! Let's get this farce of a battle over with," he calls out.
Jessie clenches her fists at his arrogance but doesn't say a word—she wants to see how Naruto reacts.
Naruto sighs. "Zubat, fly up to dodge," he calls out.
Zubat obeys, swiftly ascending. Machop's attack misses.
"What?!" The Ace Trainer looks shocked.
Naruto sighs again. "This is boring," he mutters.
"Zubat, use Air Cutter," he commands.
Zubat flaps its wings forcefully, sending blades of air at Machop. The Fighting-type is hit and knocked out with a super-effective move.
The Ace Trainer recalls his Machop with a frown, reaching for another Poké Ball—but then hesitates.
"I… I'm sorry. I was too overconfident," he says, then walks off, leaving behind two confused teenagers.
Naruto and Jessie exchange a shrug before continuing their journey toward Vermillion City.
A few minutes later, they spot a couple of wild Ekans and Abra. Naruto grinned and chose Sandshrew to battle Ekans.
Sandshrew comes out of it's ball ready to battle and he saw he was battling a Ekans.
Sandshrew gets in a battle stance," Sandshrew use slash attack," He called out
Sandshrew rushed at Ekans with his claws glowing white and the Ekans dodged the attack and used wrap on sandshrew. Naruto said," Dodge as best as you can," He called out.
"Sandshrew use bulldoze" Naruto called out and Sandshrew slammed his foot on the ground and it hit Ekans with a super effected move.
Naruto throws an Empty poke-ball at Ekans and it sucked the pokemon inside.
It rocked back and forth a few times.
Ding! The ball disappeared to professor Oaks Lab.
Naruto grinned, happy to have caught an Ekans. He glanced at Abra but decided not to catch it right now.
"Return, Sandshrew," he said, pointing Sandshrew's ball at him. A red beam enveloped Sandshrew, pulling him back into the Poké Ball.
Naruto and Jessie continued traveling toward Vermillion City. As they walked, they had a small conversation, getting to know each other.
A few hours later, they arrived at Vermillion City, taking in the sights of the bustling city and its port.
Jessie sighed. "It's changed since the last time I was here," she told Naruto, who listened attentively.
She began to share her story—how her parents had forced her to take the test to become a Team Rocket member, only for her to be considered a failure for not making the cut. The boss of Team Rocket had decided to keep James and her around for amusement.
Jessie sighed. "My parents… they disowned me for not making it into the family business. And Team Rocket's boss? He's actually my uncle," she admitted.
They entered Vermillion City and walked toward the Pokémon Center. Soon, they arrived and stepped inside.
Naruto approached Nurse Joy. "Please heal my Pokémon, Nurse Joy," he asked in a kind tone.
She nodded.
"Can I get a room with two beds, please?" he added.
Nurse Joy nodded and hands him the Keys.
While Naruto was talking to Nurse Joy, a certain champion arrived at the Pokémon Center. Seeing Naruto there, he smiled and walked up to the counter.
He cleared his throat, getting Naruto's attention.
Naruto turned toward the newcomer. His eyes widened. "Dad?"
Red Ketchum chuckled and hugged his eldest son, who returned the embrace. After a moment, Red broke the hug and took a step back, looking his son over.
"Wow, nice outfit, son," he complimented.
"Thanks, Dad," Naruto replied.
"Where's Ash, I wonder?" Naruto asked his father.
Red shrugged. "He probably went to focus on training his Pokémon," he said with a smirk.
Naruto smirked in return. "Good, because he was getting too arrogant for his own good, Dad."
Red then pulled out something resembling Rotom in design.
"This is a Pokédex called the Rotom Phone. It has a lot of new features that are useful for trainers like you, son. Professor Oak told me that you created a portable videophone. This Rotom Phone has a video feature that was developed by the people in the Galar region."
Red handed the Rotom Phone to Naruto, who took it with a sigh. He looked through his new device, then decided to test it out.
He dialed his house number.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
His mother, Delia, answered. "Hello?"
"Hey, Mom! Dad gave me a cool Rotom Phone," Naruto told her, excitement in his tone.
Delia giggled.
Soon, they hung up after Naruto told his mother he planned to stay in Vermillion City for a few days.
Naruto then spent time with his father, exploring the city as Red showed him around. He admired the sights, considering Vermillion one of the most beautiful cities—second only to Pallet, of course.
As they wandered, Naruto and his father saw many things, including exciting Pokémon battles. It was a refreshing moment for both of them, spending time together without any worries.
While Naruto spent time with his father, Jessie wasn't idle—she was training her Ekans, wondering if she should catch another Pokémon in case Ekans got knocked out.
Soon, the day came to an end. Naruto and his father hugged goodbye for now before Naruto headed back to the Pokémon Center to rest and train for a few more days before challenging the Gym Leader.
