Hey, everyone! The sequel to Super Paper Chopper is finally here, and it's based on everyone's favorite Paper Mario game, Paper Mario: Sticker Star! Enjoy!
Ahem... Our story begins during the evening of Sticker Fest, a holiday that occurs every year in the Mushroom Kingdom to celebrate stickers. On that special night, a Sticker Comet falls from the sky. If everyone concentrates and wishes on the Sticker Comet... It's said that all of those wishes will come true.
The stars were shining bright, and confetti made up of stickers flew everywhere during the Mushroom Kingdom's night. Many Toads were gathered near a shiny cardboard stage decorated with Fire Flower, Star, Mushroom, and Ice Flower stickers. Spotlights from below the stage shone down on the blue curtains with a yellow trim. The center of the stage had a round, blue circle.
But Toads weren't the only ones at the celebration. It just so happened that a certain antennaed Starsol from Clara was invited to this festival too!
Having explored this world before, Chopper had always been a welcome guest in the Mushroom Kingdom. His help in defeating the many villains that wreaked havoc placed him as a hero along with the likes of Mario, so when he got the call for an invitation, he gladly accepted it.
So now Chopper stood among the Toads, being nothing but a pale green, ball-shaped figure with a pair of antennae on the top of his head curving back, a pair of green feet, and white gloves with sock-like cuffs on his hands attached to his short arms.
Any other way to distinguish him from the others? Why, the huge pile of food three times his size in his hands, of course!
And while all of the Toads looked pretty much the same, there was one exception. …OK, maybe he looked a lot like the other red-spotted ones, but he held a silver stopwatch.
"Man, what's taking so long?" the Toad complained, eyeing his stopwatch and tapping his foot quickly. "They're already behind schedule by fifteen seconds!"
As if his complaints were heard, the curtains had opened, revealing a giant "Sticker Fest" sign and the blonde-haired princess herself, Princess Peach, garbed in her pink dress. Even the Mushroom Kingdom's hero, Mario, was beside her, dressed in his red shirt, blue overalls, brown boots, and his famous red cap with a red M stitched in. Oh, and we can't forget about his magnificent brown mustache!
But that wasn't all. The princess was courteous enough to invite Mario's greatest nemesis and the biggest pain in the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser. This great and mighty Koopa King was presented well in his green, spiky shell.
Well, while the gesture was nice, there were currently over twenty Toads blocking this burly figure. Lucky for them, Bowser was too awestruck by a comet descending from above to make any other reaction.
Many Toads' mouths were agape as the yellow, star-shaped Sticker Comet landed on the blue circle rising from the center of the stage. At the same time, several golden stanchions with red velvet ropes attached to them appeared on the platform, surrounding the Sticker Comet. Mario stared in awe, while Peach had raised an arm forward, showcasing the comet to all of the Toads. Just its mere presence made the mushroom-capped people bounce with glee.
Even Chopper had to admit that the comet was nice to look at. But who cares about some shiny comet when you have a huge food pile?
So he wasted no time, opened his mouth wide, and was ready for his food to make a new journey.
And then he felt his antennae twitch.
Uh oh…
That's when Chopper saw it. Something, or rather, someone, was falling from the sky, and he was dropping quickly.
The figure landed in front of the blue platform, creating a large hole in the stage and forming a lot of dust that forced many Toads to shield their eyes. Once the dust was gone, the figure was all too clear to them. The evil Demon Knight himself, Maquano the Shadomon!
Yeah, it was Maquano all right... Chopper could easily recognize his red and black armor set, including his black helmet with curved spikes protruding from the sides and back. Not to mention those red shoulder pads and black cape...
Unfortunately for the Mushroom Kingdom, Maquano had always been an unwelcome guest, causing many heinous acts just for his amusement. Luckily, he had always been stopped by Chopper, but that was hardly enough for him to give up.
"Guess who's back?!" Maquano announced, spreading his arms out to the audience. At the same time, plenty of demonic figures aggressively emerged from the audience, causing many Toads to spin and fall over on their backs or stomachs.
Chopper knew he had to do something right away. After all, he was the only one here who could handle him!
But first, he had a food pile to take care of…
His mouth began to suck in the tower food like a vacuum cleaner, and then he made a big leap toward the stage.
While the minions were having fun messing around, Maquano's red eyes took a look at the Sticker Comet. Just looking at it made his helmet's eye openings narrow. So, he made his approach toward it. Mario jumped forward, his feet aiming at the demon's head, but Maquano swatted him away effortlessly.
Once he was face-to-face with the comet, the Shadomon threw a fist forward. Chopper noticed this and was about to spring forward.
But it was already too late...
The Sticker Comet shone brighter than ever once Maquano's fist made contact, and then it flew upward, creating a force strong enough to push the evil demon back. Everyone watched as the comet flew above the Mushroom Kingdom, and with another flash, it exploded, causing various balls of light to spread to different areas. One of these balls of light landed on Maquano's helmet, where everyone could see that it was a golden sticker shaped like a crown.
"Hmmmmm? What's this?" Maquano question, poking at the sticker. "Maybe I shou-" The demon's words paused as his red eyes shrank. Maquano's body began to shine before the shininess took over and covered the demon in a yellow and magenta gloss. The Shadomon's eyes even changed from red to yellow.
As he looked at his body, Maquano opened his mouth underneath his helmet...
...Yet, there were no words, not even a sound.
Maquano tried to let out another word. Still, there was nothing. His minions began to furrow their eyebrows as the Shadomon made various gestures despite the lack of words.
"Is he...playing charades with us?" a red lizard demon whispered to their ally, who replied with a shrug.
With the fury of a preschooler, Maquano began to stomp the ground, causing a massive earthquake that sent all of the Toads and minions flying away. Mario and Peach had grasped onto the curtains, while Bowser had been knocked away from the stage and landed on his back, struggling to get himself up.
Maquano then focused on Chopper, who landed on the ground after his quaking tantrum and began to charge his way. The demon retaliated by drawing a black energy sword and dashing toward his archenemy.
When the two clashed, a bright flash enveloped the entire area, blinding the two.
"Wake up..."
Huh? What was that voice? Was this some kind of dream? Well, dreams usually had stuff, right? Then why was everything all white?
"Wake up..."
That voice again! Can't they just wait five more-
"Oh, for crying out loud..." the feminine voice sighed. "WAKE UP!" she yelled.
At that moment, Chopper's eyes shot wide open and began to wobble back and forth on the ground. Wait, wobble? Why was he wobbling around? And why did everything feel so...weird and fold-y?
Chopper attempted to get himself up by jumping and unfolding his body until he was lying on the ground with a small crease. Well, that was easy to fix! Just one jump, and he was already straight and flat as any piece of paper!
The feeling was pretty strange... Sure, he had fallen on the ground flat before and even found himself folded from hitting a ceiling from a Spring Jump, but having his entire body folded up this many times was all too new for him.
After shaking himself off, Chopper had taken a good look around. The sky was blue and the sun was shining brightly, but everything else before him was a completely different story.
For starters, the stage from the Sticker Fest was all bent up, and even the curtains were all torn up. Toads were even stuck to some of these decorations with yellow tape covering them up.
Just what the heck happened while he was out, Chopper thought?
"Hey, you... Can you come over here?"
It was that voice again! Guess he wasn't dreaming... Chopper looked around the area, but saw no sign of anyone who made that voice. Maybe that Toad running around with the sticker on his head was the one who called for him?
"Hey, wait!" the voice called out when Chopper approached the Toad. "I'm over HERE!"
Chopper paused and looked behind him, but he saw no one calling out to him. Although that Peach sign looked like it had a nice new crown. Was it usually a sparkling silver with blue eyes?
As he passed the sign, steam began to form over the crown. "Uh, hello?! Do you not see the sign with the silver crown?!" the voice cried out. "Come over here!"
Oh! Why didn't the voice say so? Chopper approached the sign and noticed the irritation in the crown's eyes.
"Yeesh... How could you not see me?" she mumbled. "Well, it doesn't matter," the crown sighed, brushing that off. "If it's not obvious, I'm stuck here and need to get off. Hurry and get peeling!"
Peel… Darn, at a time like this? Where the heck would he even be able to find…
Oh, wait! There was one!
The crown furrowed her eyebrows as Chopper ran over to her left. When he returned, a banana was now in his hands. With no time to waste, he got peeling.
"I meant peel ME off!" the crown yelled, the voice ringing loud enough to make Chopper drop the banana with a splat. The Starsol gasped as he went down to the splattered banana with a tear rolling down his face. Guilt began to form within the crown's mind as she looked down at the kid. "Could you peel me off…please?" she asked calmly.
Oh, that was easy! After eating the floor banana, Chopper stood back up and gave her a nod before peeling her off with ease. The force of his peeling made the sign fall over, but none of that mattered! The sticker was free, and she took the time to fly up and stretch herself out – if that was something stickers could do.
"Phew..." the sticker sighed in relief, finally floating back down to Chopper. "What a relief. I can't believe I got stuck on that sign twice! Talk about unlucky... I wonder why that comet is so easy to tou-" She cut herself off and blinked a few times. "Wait... Hold on a minute..." The crown got a look at Chopper and gave him a fierce glare. "WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?!"
The sudden shout of her voice forced Chopper back as he covered his antennae. Why did she have to be so loud? And what was she even talking about?
"YOU'RE the one who touched that comet, didn't you? What is WRONG with you?!" she cried, steam rising from her shiny head. For more emphasis, she flew right in front of Chopper's face, making him step back, while she kept moving forward each step he took. "Is this going to become a trend every time the comet arrives? It's a saying from the beginning of time: 'Never, EVER touch the Sticker Comet!' You probably heard it a billion times by now! Didn't you think a comet with a bunch of wishes might be so dangerous? Nooooooo... You just HAD to use that incredible wisdom and get your greedy little hands on it, and KERBLAMMO! Everything's all wrong again now that the Royal Stickers are gone. Yeah. You heard me. ROYAL. STICKERS. This is all your fault, so you're going to take responsibility and fix this up!"
Wait... Now everything was starting to clear up! That comet thing from the night!
When she finally stopped moving, Chopper took the moment to rub his antennae before shaking his head.
"Don't you DARE give me any excuses!" the sticker yelled again, making Chopper close his eyes tightly and cover his antennae again. "Paper folk should be better than this! There are people in trouble right now! What do you think you should be doing?"
Chopper looked at some tape on the ground and peeled it off like he did with the sticker. The sticker's steaming rage seemed to cool down when he removed more tape.
"OK, you're doing the right thing. Thank you..." the sticker sighed in relief, getting out of Chopper's face. "In any case, I should introduce myself. I'm Kersti! I've come from Sticker Star to grant everyone's wishes at the Sticker Fest. ...OK, I don't actually grant them, but the Royal Stickers are the ones who do that," Kersti looked up at the sky with sad eyes. "As their caretaker, I'm supposed to find them. But now they're scattered all over..."
Chopper looked at the sadness in her eyes with a frown. He promptly replied to her with a smile and a thumbs-up.
"Huh? You're willing to help me find all the Royal Stickers?" Kersti asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Mmmmm-hmmm!" Chopper nodded.
"Thank you… I really do appreciate the help," Kersti sighed in relief, though her sad tone remained. "It's just that… Well, from what I saw when the comet split, there were way more Royal Stickers that scattered across the world. Some of them might be easy to find if they dropped in the same area, but the others might be located in unfamiliar areas to me." She closed her eyes, hanging her head low. "I really don't have the time to be out of Sticker Star for that long…"
Time... Time… Chopper pondered over this word, wondering why that word sounds familiar. He swore it sounded like a power…
Oh, yeah! The Time power! All Chopper had to do was find something to absorb to use its power! But what could...
Ah-ha!
One Toad covered in tape happened to be holding up a stopwatch. Chopper smiled, hurrying over to the Toad to peel him off.
"Oh, thank goodness!" the Toad sighed in relief. "I thought I was going to be stuck there for- Hey!"
Opening his mouth, Chopper began to suck in the stopwatch like a vacuum cleaner. The stopwatch materialized into glowing green spheres as it flew into the Starsol's mouth. And in a brief flash, a large alarm clock divided in half appeared on Chopper's head like a hat.
"Hey! That was my only stopwatch!" the Toad yelled, shaking a fist as Chopper hurried back to Kersti.
"I really hope I don't get stuck in a cobweb agai-" Kersti stopped when she noticed Chopper return with a new look. "Huh? What's with the hat?" she asked as Chopper created light blue energy in the form of a clock and held it to her. "Wait... You plan to reverse time to the moment before the comet was touched? You can do that?!"
"Yeah!" Chopper nodded.
"Wow... That's...amazing! That's actually a lot easier than going to find the Royal Stickers!" the sticker exclaimed happily, although her cheery tone changed when she realized something. "Although..." she began, her eyes becoming sad. "If you do that, we might not ever meet..."
Chopper closed his eyes and slowly nodded.
"Well... Sometimes when you have to do what's right, there are things that you end up losing," Kersti admitted, lowering her head. "So... Go ahead, Chopper..." she directed, looking back up at Chopper. "You do the honors."
Chopper raised the time energy above him and prepared to snap his finger.
"Wait!"
The Starsol paused and brought her attention back to Kersti, who looked down at the ground with guilt all over her eyes
"Before you throw that… Could I just apologize for getting mad at you earlier?" she asked, making Chopper raise his eyebrows. "I was just annoyed that the Sticker Comet got split up again, but it was wrong for me to yell at you and accuse you of touching the Sticker Comet," Kersti confessed. "It's OK if you're mad at me after this is all good and done."
Chopper blinked at the sticker before finally saying, "It's OK."
"Thank you…" Kersti sighed in relief, but she stopped herself when Chopper was about to snap his finger. "Wait a moment!" she cried, stopping Chopper once more. "I never got your name."
Chopper smiled at her as he answered, "I'm Chopper the Starsol."
"Then…" Kersti began, her tone rising. "Do your thing, Chopper!"
With determination in his eyes, Chopper unleashed his time snap. Everything suddenly paused in place...and then began to reverse backwards. Chopper could see all that was happening, even before waking up.
Wow! Bowser spent a long time trying to get himself up! And Mario was able to keep Peach safe and get away! Thank goodness! And Maquano after that flash just...vanished? Weird...
After a few more seconds, Chopper was back at the beginning, where everyone was celebrating the festival. It was also the point when Maquano got onto the stage to face the comet.
Well, he promised that shiny crown sticker that this mistake would be fixed, and that was what he planned to do now! Chopper sprang into action at lightspeeds and fired clock energy at Maquano before he could get closer to the Sticker Comet. With him frozen in time, the Starsol dashed straight into him, sending the two away from the festival and onto the grassy fields outside town.
"What the...!" Maquano gasped, shaking off the time freeze. As he slid backwards across the grass, he saw Chopper glaring at him with two clock hand wands in his hands. "Chopper the Starsol... So you were invited to that festival? Well, now that you're here, I'd rather take my time crumpling you than spend time at some dumb sticker festival!"
The two dashed forward, with Chopper aiming his clock wands and Maquano reeling his sword back.
For them, this was just another day...
Happy April Fools Day, everyone!
This was a story I originally uploaded back in 2021 that I deleted for reasons I completely forgot. I figured I'd go back, iron some things out, and bring it back to FanFiction, because why not?
I apologize if I got some people's hopes up. I don't know if I can commit to another long fanfic. Maybe I could, but it would probably take much longer to work on with my commitments focused on things like art and animation.
I will say that if I were to ever come back to the Paper Chopper story verse, it'd likely be a reboot of the first three at a much shorter length and likely entirely original stories altogether. I have written a rebooted prologue of the first one, but that was done years ago, and it's not a huge priority for me.
If you want to see any of my artwork, you can see it on my Deviantart, Tumblr, YouTube, or Bluesky under MechanicalOven.
