Tuffnut sat up in his bed, stretching his arms and letting out a yawn. Except, it didn't sound like his normal yawn. It sounded more like a drawn out squawk.
"Well, that's strange," Tuff said, blinking the sleep out of his eyes. At least, that's what he tried to say. What came out was a series of clucks.
Tuffnut froze before looking very carefully at his surroundings. This wouldn't be the first time Ruffnut had tried to Loki him, and he wouldn't let her laugh at him longer than he had too. He opened his mouth to yell something at his twin as he slid out of the bed when he caught a glimpse of his feet. He stared at them for a moment before wiggling them around to confirm they were his. Once he was certain they were, in fact, his feet, he raised his hands in front of his face. He didn't have hands anymore. He had wings covered in blonde feathers. Like a chicken. And his feet were chicken feet.
Tuffnut threw back his head and let out the loudest crow that the Edge (or probably anywhere) had ever heard. He then just sat on the bed for a while, letting reality sit in.
He was now a chicken. A Tuffnut sized chicken. Tuff inhaled deeply.
"Hey, sis! Do I have a surprise for you!" he clucked, practically flying off his bed in his haste to scare the liver out of his twin. He was so excited, he didn't remember until he was already outside and heading towards Hiccup's hut to prank him that everyone had headed back to Berk yesterday to report to Stoick. Tuffnut slowed his run–waddle?–to a stop, letting out a huff as he tucked his wings. Of course the one day he might actually have a chance at properly Loki'ing Hiccup, Hiccup wouldn't be there. They had left him and Ruffnut behind to man the Edge, as the chance of the Hunters attacking was quite low right now. Oh well, Hiccup and the others would be back before nightfall. But right now, he would go find his sister.
Tuffnut was just turning into the clubhouse kitchen when he heard an unfamiliar voice squawk, "Tuffnut! Come here!" Tuff whipped around in surprise, and his face lit up when he saw Chicken.
"Chicken!" he cried, rushing to her with open wings. "Look! You and I are now the same! And now we can truly understand each other! Not that I didn't before, it'll just be easier now…"
Chicken quickly moved out of the way of the oversized chicken, clucking at him. "No time," she said. "The Riders and Ruffnut were captured by the Hunters while you were asleep. I can show you where they are keeping them."
"Ah, you always were good at keeping the important things in mind," Tuff sighed before following his pet out of the clubhouse.
It was strange how close the Hunters were keeping the trapped Riders to their base, but Tuffnut wasn't complaining. He peeked around the conveniently placed boulder hiding him from sight as he assessed the situation. He glanced at Chicken. "What do you suggest, my feathered friend?"
Instead of responding, Chicken launched herself at the nearest guard. Tuffnut rolled his eyes. "Of course you'd choose the head on attack. I forgot who's chicken you are." Then, ruffling his feathers, he leaped in to join her.
"You really want us to believe that we somehow left the island, got captured by Hunters, got rescued by you, as a giant chicken, and Hiccup, in his great gratitude, granted you the title 'Hero of All Chickens'? And somehow, you don't remember how you turned back into a human? We haven't left the island in weeks!" Snotlout looked like he couldn't believe he'd let Tuffnut talk such nonsense for so long.
"I told you, I clearly fell unconscious as soon as my chicken self was no longer needed and you all forgot the incident! I'm telling you, I was blessed by Loki yesterday just to save you all!" Tuffnut exclaimed, still going strong.
"No offense, Tuffnut," Astrid interjected, "but Loki's the god of mischief. He wouldn't have transformed you into a chicken just to help us. He would have done it at a really inconvenient time."
"Not to mention I heard you muttering about chickens in your sleep last night," Ruffnut snickered.
Tuffnut snorted. "You all are just unbelievers. Just you wait, when you need him most, Chicken-Nut will return!"
Hiccup could only shake his head and chuckle as a full on arguing match took off, Tuffnut willing to defend his dream till Ragnarok. He glanced at Chicken, who had wandered over to see what all the commotion was about. "I guess we shouldn't tell him Ruffnut spiked his drink last night with those weird berries, huh?"
Chicken simply ruffled her feathers, clucked, and headed back to the clubhouse. Hiccup chuckled again.
"I have to agree with that."
