The lowly soldier's name was Ethan Rikes, an unfortunate private who had been assigned this position as punishment from his drill sergeant for falling asleep on his feet.
As punishment, he received the most boring job of all; monitor duty. As such, he was forced to keep his eyes on the mostly unchanging screen for anything out of the ordinary. This made him want to nod off again, but he remembered what happened when the drill sergeant caught him last time.
