Chapter 5: Campfire Cookin'
The sun was fully down now, the moon having taken its place. Sabrina was cooking campfire pizza for Bugsy. This was honestly her first time cooking a pizza from scratch. And the first time she made food over a campfire. Honestly, she didn't do all that great despite Bugsy's instructions. Nevertheless, her telekinesis cuts the food into 6 even triangles. She hands 3 to Bugsy on a plate, putting the remaining 3 on a plate of her own. Bugsy didn't immediately start eating, since he just finished preparing plates of specialized sausages for their Pokemon to enjoy.
"Sorry Bugsy… I think I overcooked it a bit…" Sabrina sighs. She was right. The food was overcooked. And Bugsy knew it. Still, he didn't mind it too much and chalked it up to Sabrina's inexperience. "It's okay. Don't worry too much about it." He said as he picked up a slice and took a careful bite. "Hm…" He ponders the flavor before he settles on a decision. "It's good. Bit hard but… still good!" He said with his mouth full. Sabrina sits down next to him. "Thank you." She said before she ate her share.
Once dinner was finished, it was time for dessert. Bugsy was teaching Sabrina how to make s'mores. It started with a simple marshmallow roasting. The boy had mastered this art. Sabrina… not so much. While he showed off a perfectly roasted treat, she showed off… a totally charred failure.
"Hmph…" The psychic grumbles. "I think you're holding it too close to the fire." The bug expert comments as he sets his marshmallow between chocolate and graham crackers. He extends his free arm out to mimic a roasting stick. "You see, you don't want to be too close or you'll cook it too fast. I'd suggest roughly 5-8 inches from the- YEEEACK!"
He accidentally burnt his arm on the burnt marshmallow. Sabrina immediately flicks the ruined sweet far away to tend to Bugsy. "Bugsy! I'm so sorry!" She said, holding his arm carefully. "Are you alright?!" She asked, worried about him. "I'm okay! I'm okay! It's just a little burn wound. That's all." Bugsy calms down. It was just a burn wound, but it still stung like mad. "Could you… get the med kit?" He asks. Sabrina obliges and reaches into his pack, pulling out the med kit. She finds a small bottle of fresh water and pours it on his wound. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what I was thinking." She repeats her apology. "It's okay. Things happen. It was my fault, honestly." He chuckles a bit. "And here I was thinking I'd have to take care of you." After applying the water, Sabrina rubs some ointment onto Bugsy's burn before applying a bandage. "Does it feel any better?" She asked. Bugsy nodded. "Yeah. I'm fine. Should be back to normal by morning." He reaffirms her of his well being. He'll be fine.
While eating several s'mores and having a conversation, Bugsy decides to take a leap of faith. In a moment of brief silence, he asks a question. "Hey Sabrina. Now that we're all alone, can I tell you something?" Sabrina nods. "I don't see why not. I'm all ears." She said, listening in.
"Y'know… I like having you around and doing stuff with you. Game nights, talking on the phone, bug catching, the pet names, I like them." Bugsy said. "But lately, I've been thinking maybe we could be more than friends. I feel like we could be more than that. Something warmer." He clutches his chest softly. Sabrina listens in, all agog to hear what Bugsy is saying. "Sabrina… I guess what I'm trying to say is… I think I'm in love with you." He said. That left Sabrina rapt.
"Bugsy, could you close your eyes for a moment?" She asks, standing up. "Okay!" Bugsy stands up and follows orders. His eyes shut tightly. "Open your palms." Sabrina said. Bugsy does just that, holding his 2 palms out open in front of him. He feels something enter both palms. Something soft. "Hm? What's this?" He asks, curiously. "You can open your eyes now." Sabrina said. When Bugsy's eyes open, he finds Sabrina close to his face. "Oh… Whoa…"
