Ch 117 The Battle of the Ancients Pt 1
The Devon Corporation's Helicopter travels across the Hoenn's Skylines, landing at the Docks for Aircrafts.
Helena, Brendan, and Steven departed from the Helicopter, about to go and meet with the Sootoplis Gym Leader. "Let's make this quick, I don't want to leave N, Reshiram, and Jackie for too long." The black-haired Professor said, worried for the two.
Steven and Brenden nodded, understanding her concerns about leaving the two trying to stop Groudon and Kyogre. He then turns to the Pilot, seeing him checking on the haul of the Helicopter. "Hal, do you want to accompany us to meet Wallace?"
The Pilot turns to his Boss's Son, responding to his offer. "I should probably stay with the Helicopter and do some maintenance. We're going to leave after you meet with the Sootoplis City Gym Leader, right?" He asked, receiving a nod from him,
"Yes, we're going to make this quick, Hal," Steven said, his eyes shifting to his Father's Company Helicopter. "Do your best to make the necessary repairs to the Helicopter,"
"You can count on me, Sir," Hal said, seeing some Dock Mechanics, doing some repairs on a Boat. He quickly heads over to them, requesting some assistance.
Steven watches as the Pilot leaves the Helicopter for a moment before following the other two to meet with Wallace.
"Sorry, I just want to check on something with Hal." Steven apologies to the two,
Brendan shook his Head, understanding why the Hoenn Champion stayed back momentarily. "No, you're good, Steven." The young trainer said to his Mentor.
"We weren't waiting for long, but we really do need to meet with Wallace," Helena said to her Fiancé, "The Temperature and the Weather are getting worse by the second," She motions to the Environment changing from the Battle between Groudon and Kyogre.
Steven nodded, joining both trainers heading to the Sootoplis City Gym. "Right, let's get going you two." He said as they continued their way to the Gym.
The three walked on Sootoplis Street which leads to the Gym, however, Brenden's eyes drifted to the City's Center where the Cave of Origins was. At the entrance of the Cave was Wallace along with his Gym trainers, "Steven, Professor, there's Wallace with some of his Gym trainers near the Cave of Origins."
Both Helena and Steven followed where the brown-haired trainer was pointing to. "He's right, there is Wallace at the Cave of Origins." The black-haired Woman said, gazing at the Cave of Origins. "
Brendan looked confused at what the teal-haired Gym Leader was doing. "What exactly is he doing?" He asked the two.
"I see what's going on," Steven understood what he saw. He proceeded to head towards the City Center to meet Wallace and his trainers.
Helena turns to Brendan, also understanding what her Friend is doing in front of the Cave. "Brendan, I think this is a perfect opportunity to learn a bit more about the Hoenn Region." She said kindly, "Want to see what Wallace and his Gym trainers are up to, Brendan?"
"That's why we're here, right Professor?" Brendan smiled at the young Professor, willing to learn more about his Home Region.
The two followed the Hoenn Champion to the Cave of Origins where they met with the City's Gym Leader.
At the Cave of Origins, Wallace was ordering his Gym trainers to ensure the Cave was protected from anyone who'd try to sneak in. "Wallace,
The Water-type Gym Leader chuckles, turning around to see the three People he was expecting to arrive. "About time you all showed up, I was waiting for you all for so long," Wallace said, still flamboyant as ever despite the situation.
"Still flamboyant as ever, eh Wally?" Steven asked his Rival, chuckling at him.
Brendan looks up at Helena, questioning the nickname the Champion gave the Gym Leader. "Professor Potter, why did Steven call Wallace Wally? Are they old Friends?" He asked, never meeting Wallace until now.
"Ah, right, Steven, Wallace, and I used to attend the Rustboro Pokemon Trainer School," Helena explains to the young trainer. She chuckles at how long it has been since they attended the School. "We used to call each other by nicknames, mostly shortened versions of our Names. Such as Wally for Wallace, Flans for Flannery, Brawls for Brawly, Roxy for Roxanne and-"
"Ellie for Helena, right? I heard Steven calling you that many times before." The brown-haired trainer said,
Helena gave a small laugh, remembering how she had gotten that Nickname. "It was Wallace and Flannery who gave me that Nickname. Steven blushed red when he heard that for the First time." The black-haired Woman said, looking at her Fiancé and Friend.
"I don't think I ever seen Steven embarrassed before," Brendan said, trying to picture that image in his mind. However, it proves to be futile,
Steven walked with Wallace over to the two. "Seems we've gotten here right on time." Steven said to them, "Wallace here was telling me that recently, the Cave of Origins began to generate an Energy that caused many Pokemon to flee from Sootoplis City." The Hoenn Champion explains what was going on around the City/Crater.
The teal-haired Gym Leader nodded, gazing at the Waters of the Sootoplis Docks. "Many of the Pokemon that fled from the surroundings are greatly in tune with Nature left due to the Power within the Cave," Wallace explains to the two.
"Understandable, the Cave of Origins is said to contain the Power of the Ancient," Helena stated, looking at everyone. "Pokemon react differently to the Power of others, some gather to the Power as it was a part of their Nature or flee out of fear." The young Professor of Pokemon explains,
"Exactly right, my fellow Researcher! Pokemon are affected by the environment, if they sense the balance out of align then it'll be a big problem." Everyone looks to the side, seeing a familiar face.
"Wyscan!" Everyone, minus Brendan, greeted the blonde Researcher.
"Who's Wyscan?" Brenden asked, curious about this Man walking towards them.
Steven looks at his Protégé, explaining who this Man is. "Wyscan is an old Researcher Friend of ours. He's been researching everything about Pokemon and the World." The Hoenn Champion said, informing Brenden what they knew.
"So he's a traveling Researcher, that's cool." Brendan looks at Wyscan, intrigued by the Researcher. "What do you exactly research about?" He asked the blonde Professor.
Wyscan taps his chin, trying to put his research into words. "Let's see, there's a lot I researched. But mainly my subject is about Pokemon Mythology and Ancient Ruins." The blonde Researcher explains to the young Pokemon trainer.
Helena gave a small laugh, looking at her fellow Researcher. "Whenever something is going on, you're at the forefront of it all." She commented,
The Researcher merely shrugs, "What can I say, wherever something is interesting, I have to check it out." Wyscan said with a lax expression, "In any case, I just happened to be around the Hoenn Region when the Cave of Origins started to act strange." He explains to the group.
"I'd asked Wyscan to help out to figure out what is going on with the Cave of Origins," Wallace added, explaining why the Researcher was there. "The Energy that is leaking out from the Cave is the result of Groudon's awakening. And like Professor Potter's theory of the Cave suggests,"
"Groudon is heading to gain more of his Original Power," Brendan said, understanding things better. "So what's the plan now?" He asked the Adults around him,
Everyone looks around, trying to figure out what to do in this situation. Steven was the first to answer, already having an idea of what to do. "It's simple, we need to prevent Groudon from reaching the Cave of Origins where he could get more powerful than he is now." The Hoenn Champion said, his voice filled with determination.
"How about Kyogre? Isn't he going for the Cave of Origins as well?" Brendan asked, bringing up something important.
Helena ponders, thinking back to when Kyogre appeared. "I don't think so, from the looks of it, it seems that Kyogre is preventing Groudon from reaching the Cave of Origins." She said, sharing her thoughts with the group.
Wallace and Steven look at Helena, "What makes you say that, Ellie?" The Water-type Gym Leader asked his closest Friend,
"Ellie, can you elaborate?" Steven asked his Fiancée, wanting to understand her thought process.
"Well, Kyogre's appearance must be because of Groudon's awakening. Notice the difference between both of them?" Helena asked the group,
They all nodded, taking note of the differences. "Now that you mentioned it, Kyogre seems to be focused on Groudon…" Brendan commented, seeing a glimpse of the Battle.
"Kyogre most likely preventing Groudon from reaching Sootoplis City," Wyscan said, assuming based on what he's been hearing from Helena. "From what Helena and Brendan witnessed, Kyogre is trying to stop Groudon from gaining more of Groudon's original Power. In short, Kyogre is on our side." He stated,
Steven nodded, "Then we need to help Kyogre, our plan to stop Groudon's advancement didn't change." The Hoenn Champion stated, smiling at his Friends. "At this moment, we might have an advantage with Kyogre standing in Groudon's way." He said, wanting to take this opportunity to do something impactful.
The group nodded, agreeing with Steven's statement. Brendan then steps forward, giving his input to the conversation. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's get started," The young trainer said, sounding energetic and ready to face the Legendary Pokemon.
Soon enough, the group returned to the Devon Corporation Helicopter and departed from Sootoplis City. Wallace, his Gym trainers, and Wyscan stayed behind to watch over the Cave of Origins carefully,
Within the Helicopter, Helena, Steven, and Brendan were waiting for their arrival. Steven's leg was shaking, trying to figure out a game plan when they were about to face Primal Groudon.
Helena could see that the Steel-blue haired Man's leg shaking. She placed her hand on her Fiancé, knowing that was an indication he was getting worried. "Steven, you're shaking your Leg." She spoke to him.
"S-Sorry, I'm just a bit anxious about what we're going to do." Steven smiled at Helena, trying to hide his anxiety behind it.
Helena, however, could tell his anxiety of Battling a Legendary Pokemon was eating away at him. "Steven you Battled and captured the Iron Pokemon, Registeel. This should be simple for you," She said, knowing he could do this.
Steven nodded to his Future Wife, "I know, but there's a stark difference between Battling Registeel and Groudon." The Hoenn Champion said, laying out his worries to her. "But that's not what I am worried about. It's you, Helena."
"Me?"
"Yes, I'm worried that you might get hurt during the Battle." Steven looked at the black-haired Woman. "I just got you back and I'm worried that I might lose you again if things went array." He confessed to Helena, having a lot of worries about their upcoming Battle.
Helena merely gave Steven a reassuring smile towards him. "I'm not going to die, Steven. I'm determined to see Aiden and Casey when we're done saving Hoenn from Primal Groudon." She said to him, patting her Hand on his.
The Steel-blue haired Champion couldn't but chuckle at how reassuring his Fiancée. "I don't know how you do it. You always know what to say to me when I'm not my best." Steven said, appreciating her help in calming his anxiety about their Battle.
Helena smiled before the Pilot turned on their Comms, "Sir, we're approaching the Battle between Kyogre and Groudon." He informed the three of their arrival, "I think you need to see this for yourself."
Helena, Steven, and Brendan watched through the window of the Helicopter, witnessing what happened while they were away.
Outside of the Helicopter, the Battlefield where Primal Groudon and Kyogre was taken place. There were pillars of Rocks and Ice piercing through the Ocean's surface, the Weather was unpredictable with it both emitting sweltering Heat from the Sun and constant downpours from the Rain Clouds above.
Despite the effects already, the two Legendary Pokemon are still Battling each other. However, what was more surprising is that N and Reshiram flew above Kyogre,
"Reshiram, here comes another Attack!" The green-haired trainer informed his Partner,
Groudon roars, about to release a powerful Fire Blast towards his Rival. "Now, Reshiram use Dragon Pulse to counter Groudon's Attack!" N held his hand out,
Reshiram roared, his tail flared up, ready to release his Attack. A purple Beam rushed over to the Ground/Fire-type Pokemon as he released a large fiery Blast in return.
The two Attacks collided, however, Groudon's Fire Blast was stronger due to his Primal Form.
"Alright Mantine, use Hydro Pump and help Reshiram!" Jackie leaps out from the Water while riding onto Mantine.
Mantine lifts his Head, releasing a large Hydro Pump towards the large Fire Blast. The Attack rushes through the Air, joining with Reshiram's Dragon Pulse.
Both Attacks were able to push the Fire Blast back for a bit, however, it wasn't enough.
Everyone on the Helicopter saw the two trying their best to hold back the Attack, "N, Jackie, they're doing all they can to stop Groudon." Brendan said, watching the Battle.
"Hold on, where is Kyogre?" Helena asked, searching for the other Legendary Pokemon.
Suddenly out of nowhere, Kyogre leaps out of the Water. Blue orbs were around him before releasing his Origin Pulse at the Fire Blast.
With Kyogre's added Attack, they were able to dispel Groudon's Attack.
Primal Groudon roars, about to Attack once more. However, he was foiled when Kyogre shot a large Hydro Pump at him, knocking him back to the Land he created.
N and Reshiram flies next to the Legendary Pokemon of Hoenn. "Kyogre, stop! That's enough-"
Kyogre continued his Attacks, ignoring what the green-haired trainer had to say. Instead, Kyogre dove into the Ocean, bursting through the Waters again.
The Water-type Pokemon open his Mouth, releasing a powerful Blizzard towards his Rival. Both Legendary Pokemon of Hoenn roared, Battling against each other once again,
Jackie had Mantine fly beside Unova's Legendary Pokemon, seeing the Sea Basin Pokemon Battle the Continent Pokemon. "N, I thought Kyogre was Battling on our side to stop Groudon." The Pokemon Ranger asked the former King of Team Plasma. "Why did he suddenly go for an Attack!?"
"It looks like the rivalry between both Groudon and Kyogre goes deeper than I initially thought," N said, having faith that Kyogre would put his rivalry with Groudon to the side for the greater good of the Region. However, both he and Reshiram were wrong on that point. "I'm sorry Reshiram, but I think you were wrong about this one."
Reshiram shook his Head, seeing things differently from his point of view. He roars a bit, explaining everything to his Partner.
"What did Reshiram say, N!?" Jackie called out to the green-haired Ability User.
N nodded, listening to what his Friend had to say. "I see, alright I trust you, my Friend." The former King of Team Plasma looks back at the Pokemon Ranger, relaying the message. "Jackie, Kyogre is taking a head-on approach. He said that Groudon is not acting himself," The green-haired trainer explains, "Reshiram believes the Power that Groudon receives from the Red Orb is messing with his mind."
"So in all, Groudon's Primal Form is making him out of control." The blonde Pokemon Ranger said, saying what he understood from N's explanation. "Alright, so how do we snap him back to normalcy?"
"Simple, we need to-" N halted his sentence when a loud explosion occurred before them.
Both Men turn to face where Kyogre and Primal Groudon were Battle. They saw Primal Groudon lifting Kyogre from the Ocean, he then tossed the Water-type Pokemon back at them.
"N, Reshiram, look out!" Jackie cried out, warning the Pair of the incoming Legendary Pokemon.
Kyogre roars as he is thrown back, unknowingly heading straight for Reshiram, N, Mantine, and Jackie.
There wasn't any time for them to move out of the way, Primal Groudon's toss was quick and precise and almost nothing could stop it. However, something just did,
"Metagross!"
"Gardevoir!"
"Light Screen!"
Metagross and Gardevoir appeared in front of the others, both glowed a blue hue as the largest Light Screen appeared before them.
Kyogre slams into the Light Screen, falling back into the Oceans.
N and Jackie turn their Heads back, seeing the Devon Corporation Helicopter hovering above the Ocean. The side door was opened, revealing Steven and Helena standing at the edge while holding onto the built-in Handles.
"Helena, Steven!" N and Jackie exclaim, seeing the two trainers on the Helicopter.
Brendan was holding onto the Handles way on the other side, "Are you both sure that Battling in the Air is the safest idea!?" He shouted, raising his voice due to the winds blowing within the Aircraft.
"Normally, it's not, Brendan. However, if it means saving our Friends and Family, sometimes doing something dangerous might save someone's Life." Steven said, turning to his Protégée, handing out important advice to him. "But don't do it, your Parents might go after me if you do anything reckless." The Steel-blue haired Champion said to Brendan.
The young Pokemon trainer merely nodded to what his Mentor said. "Alright, Steven whatever you say," Brendan said, knowing that Steven would say something funny when the situation was serious to put less pressure on People.
Brendan looks down at his Partner's Pokeball. He turns to the side, tossing it on the Aircraft's floor. "Sceptile, we need your help here." He called out for his trusted Partner.
The Pokeball opened up, releasing his Partner on the Helicopter. "Sceptile!" The Forest exclaims, ready to help out however he can.
"Sceptile, we need your full cooperation with this Battle," Brendan spoke to his Partner, wanting him to help out,
"Scep," Sceptile nodded, turning his Head to the outside. He quickly rushed outside of the Helicopter, falling down to the Ice floats,
Helena saw the Grass-type Pokemon leaping out of the Aircraft, "Gardevoir, use Psychic to help Sceptile safely reach the Ice Floats down below!" She called out to her Partner to assist Sceptile,
Gardevoir turns to where Sceptile is falling, "Gardevoir!" The Embrace Pokemon's eyes glowed a blue hue, staring at the Grass-type Pokemon.
Sceptile was surrounded by a blue Aura as his fall began to slow itself. Eventually, the Grass-type safety on the Ice Float. He turns around, looking up at the Helicopter above him. "Sceptile!" He signals to them that he made it without a hitch.
"You made it Sceptile, we'll be down there in a moment!" Brendan exclaims, happy to see his Partner made it down safe. He turns to the young Professor, appreciating her assistance there, "Thanks for the assist, Professor Potter!" He smiled,
"Anytime, let's join Sceptile and put an end to this Battle," Helena said, turning to Steven who was already ahead of her.
"Hal, take us above that Ice Float where Sceptile is standing," Steven spoke to the Pilot about where he could drop them off.
The Pilot nodded, hearing the order from the Hoenn Champion. "Yes S-"
Out of nowhere, Groudon roars, and the Lava flow between his plating begins to glow brighter. He raises his Head towards the sky, about to release his next Move,
Primal Groudon opens his mouth, Flames spew out of a powerful Solar Beam in the air. The Solar Beam hurls straight into the sky, causing it to spread out throughout the Area, similar to Draco Meteor.
Everyone saw the Solar Beam falling like shooting stars. Steven gritted his teeth, seeing that they couldn't deflect or counter Primal Groudon's Attack. "Hal! Evasive maneuvers now!" The Hoenn Champion exclaims, speaking to the Pilot.
"Roger that!" The Pilot replied, taking evasive maneuvers against the Attack. However, one of the Solar Beam hit the rotors of the Helicopter, causing it to fly out of control.
Helena, Steven, and Brendan were practically being thrown against the Helicopter's haul. "Brendan, go to the cockpit! You'll be safe there!" Helena shouted at the young trainer, not wanting him to get injured.
Brendan nodded, heading to the door to the Cockpit just as the young Professor said.
"Helena, you should follow Brendan. It's too dangerous here now," Steven said, giving the same orders she gave to the young Pokemon trainer.
"I will, Steven jus-"
"HELENA, STEVEN LOOK OUT!" Brendan cried out, seeing a rogue Solar Beam heading straight for them.
In a split second, the Helicopter spun out of control once more. Steven held tightly on the handle, however, he looked at his Fiancée expecting her to do the same…
N saw the rogue Solar Beam collide with the Devon Corporation's Helicopter, his eyes widened realizing who was falling. "Reshiram, quickly get over to the Helicopter, NOW!" He exclaims, rushing towards where the Helicopter was spiraling.
Helena didn't know what was going on, one moment she was on the Helicopter about to head towards the frontal section of the Helicopter and the next she was falling. "H-Huh…"
Steven's eyes widen, and his hand reaches out to Helena attempting to save her. "HELENA!"
