Demon's Daughter: Love Across the Divide

Chapter 24

Mascaraed Part 3

~Normal POV~

"Eugh, I need a drink. The hardest you can make." Angels seated at the bar talking to Husk.

"Hmm, you look like shit." Said Husk.

"(Takes a deep breath, regaining his cocky smile) Pfft, not possible. It was just a long shoot, nothin' new."

Husk rolls his eyes, pouring liquor in a glass for Angel. Who snatches the glass, gulping it down in one gulp.

"I said a strong one." Angel gives Husk a look.

"Excuse me, didn't realize this was a 'drinking to forget' kind of night." Husk responds.

"Oh, I forgot. You're the wise old bartender who's seen it all. Get the fuck over yourself and pour me a real drink." Angel complains, using his index finger to push the tip of the bottle in Husk's hands down into his glass.

"Look, if you've got a problem, you're not going to find the solution at the bottom of a bottle. I should know, I've been looking there for a long time." Husk explains, cleaning alcohol that spilled on the counter.

Gwen, emerging from the kitchen, noticed the pair. Despite her reservations about being around Angel after the day's earlier events, a persistent voice in her head urged her to check on him. Listening to the voice, she walks up to the bar. Watching and listening to Angel.

"Oh sure, and where should I look hmm? (sexily) In your bedroom, maybe? (Husk flinches) Under the covers? (Shaking his shoulders suggestively at Husk) Maybe we can go look together. (Husk unknowingly purrs as his eye twitches he holds up a hand gesturing Angel to stop)"

"Don't, even start."

Gwen took a seat next to Angel at the bar. He didn't even notice her. Just kept flirting with Husk.

"Oh, c'mon, I bet I can make those wings flap! (He grabs one of Husk's wings, spreading it out before he wraps himself in it)

"(Pushes Angel off of him and back in his spot. The bottle in his hand slips from his grasp. Smashing to the floorboard, spilling) STOP! Fucking Christ! You can cut the act already. (Places both hands on the countertop) It's never going to work on me. So, all you're doing is makin' an ass out of yourself with this fake bullshit."

Gwen was getting worried, this was usual between the guys, but the atmosphere felt completely different tonight. Turning her head, she witnessed Angel's attitude change. His facial expression went from flirty to rage. She watched as Angel stood up from his seat, pupils and freckles glowing a neon magenta as she got up in Husk's face.

"Call me fake one more time, muthafucka! DARE you!"

Gwen held onto her seat. Shit just got real. Glancing over at Husk, she watched him lean close to Angel. Taking one of his index fingers, he poked Angel's chest fluff and spoke one work.

"Fake"

"Shit! Husk...why?" Gwen thought, watching Angel lose his balance on his seat while cursing and yelling.

"Husk, what were you thinking?" Gwen looked at Husk, "What the actual fuck were you thinking?"

"I was thinking he needed to get it through that thick skull of his that his shitty performance doesn't work on me." Husk replied.

Angel rose to his feet, turned towards Husk, and exclaimed, "Ya know what?! You would be fucking lucky to get a chance to fuck me! (Throws his glass at Husk who dodges. Staring at Angel unamused and unimpressed) Ya know how much I'm worth?! You know how many people would kill to have Angel Duck come onto them?! FUCK YOU! Have fun being a lonely piece of shit!"

Angel stormed out of the hotel, pushing Vaggie out of the way.

"Woah! The hell? Angel, where are you going?" She asked.

"Out!" He shouted slamming the door.

Vaggie turns to Husk, "What did you do Husk?"

Husk just shrugged, "Made him a drink."

"Among other things." Spoke Gwen.

Charlie came over having witnessed Angel storming out in rage, "Oh no, (Worried) he looks really upset."

Husk waves off, dismissively, "it's just Angel. He'll be fine."

"Fine? Fine?! Husk, you pushed him too far with your bullshit! You have no idea what I saw Angel go through today. Now he's out there on his way to who knows what kind of trouble." Gwen was seriously worried about Angel and pissed at Husk.

"Yeah, I really messed up at the studio today and he got...Ugh, it was..." Charlie was at a loss for words.

"Gwen remarked, "It got ugly."

"I should never have gotten involved," Charlie sighed sadly.

Vaggie tucked Charlie's hair behind her ear and gave her a reassuring smile before turning to Husk.

"(Sarcastic tone) Gee, sounds like someone should go after him..."

Husk just stares and blinks blankly.

"Someone named 'Husk'. Spoke Vaggie.

"Oh, you gotta be fucking kidding me. Why don't you go if you're so worried?" He asked.

"Because I'm not the one who sent him storming out. You caused it. You drag him back." Vaggie replied.

"N! No... Don't force him back. Just...Just make sure he's safe. I pushed too hard earlier and... I only made things worse. Look, he'll come back when he's ready. I just don't want anything to happen to him until then." Charlie explained. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to write one hundred apology letters, and a lesson planned for tomorrow about...Boundaries."

Husk emitted a growl, rolled his eyes, and slouched forward, whining in a manner reminiscent of a cat. "Fine..." Husk moves out from behind the bar.

"Hang on Husk, I'll go with you." Gwen spoke.

Husk raised an eyebrow at her, "You sure about that kid?"

"Look, I apologize, but I don't regret what I said. You're going to need an extra set of eyes to find him, so let's not argue about this."

"Fine, come on."

~At a Bar in Pentagram City~

It did not take long for us to locate the bar where Angel had disappeared. He was seated with a group of shark gangsters, laughing, drinking, and indulging in drugs It is unfortunate to see how the mighty have fallen from grace. Husk and I went up to the bar, getting bumped by a few demons dancing. The sound of Husker growling caught my attention. Followed by Angel's laughter.

"I'm so fucked up!" He cried out.

Husk and I arrived at the bar. Husk laid out some cash and ordered himself some whiskey. The bartender poured him a glass, but Husk the bottle from him. Apparently when said whiskey, he meant the entire bottle. I didn't say anything and neither did the bartender. My attention was focused on Angel.

"Haha, ya, ya, so I said, "You couldn't afford me for a million afterlives." I got better options, right boys?"

"You got that right!"

The gangsters laugh as Husk, and I watched. I could hear him snarl in disgust at the sight and I don't blame the guy. While I may not know Angel very well, it doesn't mean I don't care about him. His way of living concerns me.

"Hey, baby, be a doll and bring me another one? Daddy's outta juice!"

I observed the take two empty glasses to the bar counter beside Husk and me. The bartender filled the glasses, and then the shark demon retrieved a pink vial from his jacket, pouring the mixture into Angel's drink. I became when I saw that. I was about to inform Husk, but he was already off his bar, ready to act.

"Here you go, darling. Just for you-"

As Angel was about to take the drink, Husk grabbed the from behind, hoisting him into the air causing the demon to drop the drink to the ground.

"Woah!"

"Nice try, fuckhead."

Husk threw the demon across the room, causing him to scream and land headfirst into a jukebox as up temp music plays and another demon dodges. Within seconds after witnessing that, the other sharks drew out their guns.

"Let's go!" Husk immediately grabbed mine and Angel's arms. Pulling up out of harm's way. Throwing a stack of cards at the demons which surprisingly, cut the barrels off their guns. Yes, I was watching while being dragged. It's called multitasking. Well, that and I was curious when Husk stopped a moment while pulling Angel and me.

We were soon out of the bar, and Angel immediately began to act offensively towards Husk.

"Husk! What the actual fuck are you and Gwen doing here? Let go of me."

"No, we're takin' you back to the hotel."

"Get off!"

"Angel just listen a second!" I begged.

"That fucker put sometin' in your drink."

"You don't think I can tell if someone spikes my drink? I do this all the fuckin' time!"

"You just let people drug you all the time?" Questioned Husk.

"Angel, that dreadful!" Upon reflection, it appears I sound remarkably like Charlie.

"You think I ask for it?!" Angel screamed. "I don't ask for any of this shit! I didn't ask to be this way. I didn't ask for Charlie to save me; I didn't ask for Husk to save me. I can handle myself."

"Really? Because I just saw someone self-destruction. It seems like...I don't know...you might need a bartender to talk to."

"Angel please, let's go back to the hotel. We can talk about this. We want to help you." I spoke.

"(Chuckles) Oh, so now you two are going to act like you give a shit about me? You think after how Husk treated me; I'm going to open up? Or how you just stood around doing nothing Gwen?"

"Hey, I saved your life earlier today! I don't like using my powers, but I used them to save you from that fire."

"Oh, piss off!" Angel started walking away.

"Hey! Maybe I'd treat you better if you were real, and not some bullshit version of yourself, always pushin' my boundaries! Lemme tell ya, nobody in that hotel cares who you are. How famous or hot, so you might as well just...cut the act!"

Angel stopped walking, turning around tears were built up in his eyes. "It's not an act!"

Husk and I flinched back a bit. Startled by Angel's sudden change in behavior.

"(Sobbing) It's who I need to be. (Crosses arms to his chest) And this...(Gestures to the redlight street) This is my escape! Where I can forget about it all! How much I hate...everything. A place where I can get high and not have to think about how much it hurts. And maybe...If I can ruin myself enough in the process...if I end up broken, I won't be his favorite toy anymore...and maybe he'll let me go..."

Angel sat down on the sidewalk, curling up into a small ball with his legs close to his chest. All four arms wrapped around them; head buried into his knees. I knew Angel was in a difficult situation, but I had no idea he felt this way, so broken and destroyed on the inside. I took a seat beside him on the right while Husk sat down to the left. I gently rubbed Angel's back to calm him down as he cried. I wanted to say something to him, but what was I supposed to say? I'm sorry your life is terrible; I wish I could help. No, that wouldn't change anything.

Then, Husk spoke up, "(sighs) I was an Overlord once, you know. (This caught Angel and mine attention) Yeah, and uh...if was nice to have that power. But when you're dealing in souls while also being a gambler, the stakes are pretty high. And losing a few hands can be more than a little dangerous. So, when you're down on your luck, you turn to anything to...keep afloat, even making deals with yourself. So, I know what it's like to...regret the choices made...and knowin' ya can't take it back."

"Husk, I didn't know you were an Overlord, or that you gambled your soul to Alastor to save yourself." I said in shock.

Husk gave a small shrug, "Yeah, it wasn't easy, but it was better than becoming a victim for his next broadcast."

He made a valid point there.

"(Heavy sigh) Listen, I may not be on the same boat as you guys, but I know what it feels like to be under someone's thumb. (They both look at me) Being a princess doesn't always have its fun perks. Ever since Charlie left to follow her dream at redeeming demons, my dad's been on my back like a leech. Loading my day with lessons, keeping me in the castle, it's almost like he's afraid to let me go and be my own person. Then when he slapped me, I couldn't stay there anymore. I had to get away from him or I'd never feel free."

I was unaware that I was crying until felt a warm liquid running down my cheek. I believed I had moved past this, but it seems there are certain things that will always evoke pain.

The three of us sat in silence for a while. Sitting there on the sidewalk feeling sorry for ourselves.

(Husk will be in Bold and Angel will be in Italic)

[HUSK:]

So, things look bad, and your backs against the wall

Your whole existence seems fuckin' hopeless

You're feelin' filthy as a dive bar bathroom stall

Can't face the world sober and dopeless

You've lost your way; you think your life is wrecked

Well, let me just say you're correct

[ANGEL DUST:]

Wait, what?

[HUSK:]

You're a loser, baby

A loser, goddamn baby

You're a fucked-up little whiny bitch

[ANGEL DUST:]

Hey!

[HUSK:]

You're a loser, just like me

[ANGEL DUST:]

Thanks, asshole

[HUSK:]

You're a screws-loose boozer

An only one-star reviews-er

You're a power-bottom at rock bottom

But you got company

[ANGEL DUST:]

This supposed to make me feel better?

[HUSK:]

There was a time I thought that no one could relate

To the gruesome ways in which I'm damaged

But lettin' walls down, it can sometimes set you straight!

We're all livin' in the same shit sandwich

[ANGEL DUST:]

I sold my soul to a psychopathic freak

[HUSK:]

Haha! And you think that makes you unique?

Get outta here, man!

We're both losers, baby

We're losers, it's okay to be a

[ANGEL DUST:]

Coked-up, dick-suckin' ho?

[HUSK:]

Baby, that's fine by me

[ANGEL DUST:]

I'm a loser, honey

A schmoozer and a dummy

But at least I know I'm not alone

[HUSK:]

You're a loser

[ANGEL DUST & HUSK:]

Just like me

[HUSK:]

I got an appetite for gamblin'

[ANGEL DUST:]

I got an appetite for samplin' every drug and sex toy I can find

[HUSK:]

Go ahead baby, sing that song, come on!

[ANGEL DUST:]

I got no holes left to deflower

[HUSK:]

I sold my soul to save my power

Now I'm on that demon's leash

[ANGEL DUST & HUSK:]

I'm trapped and it gets worse with every hour

[ANGEL DUST:]

You're a loser, baby

[HUSK:]

A loser, but just maybe if we

[ANGEL DUST & HUSK:]

Eat shit together, things will end up differently

[HUSK:]

It's time to lose your self-loathin'

Excuse yourself, let hope in, baby

Play your card, be who you are

[ANGEL DUST & HUSK:]

A loser, just like-

As excellent as the song was, the gang from bar reappeared heavily and angry as shit at us.

"There he is! They're fucking singing?! Get 'em!"

"Oh shit! Stay down you two! I'll deal with this." Husk spoke.

"Hehe, you're fucking dead-"

Husk killed each goon with ease using his cards but had some trouble with this one goon that jumped on his back. Seeing Husk in trouble, I took a risk jumping in to help. Summoning my powers, or at least a little of it I conjured up fireballs in the palms of my hands. Using them to knock the goon off Husk and straight into a car. Angel pulled out his own firearms and obliterates three more goons.

"Eat lead, suckas! (Lends a hand to Husk) I told ya. I can handle myself baby."

Together, the three of us killed every last goon until they were reduced to blood and guts spread out on the road.

"This did not go as planned...(dies)"

"Like I said, you don't know me. Sex ain't the only thing I'm good at." Said Angel, smiling at Husk and me.

"Good to know, cause this guy ain't that bad." Husk smiled.

"Okay, that was pretty badass awesome." I smirked, wiping blood off my face.

(Soon back at the Hotel)

Angel, Husk, and I entered through the front doors, laughing.

"He had like three bills, and it took him thirty minutes to count them. His eyes are so shit!"

I had to hold my stomach because this was hilarious.

"Hehe, and this is the guy you gotta take orders from?" Said Husk.

"The guy's as blind as a bat!" I spoke up.

"I know! What a fucking joke, right?"

Suddenly, Charlie rushed over hugging Angel in a tight embrace. It was obvious she was worried sick about him after he stormed out the door.

"I'm SO sorry Angel, I promise I won't ever, ever, ever, ever-"

Thankfully, Angel stopped Charlie from her constant repeat of the word ever.

"Charlie, it's fine. I get it. Thanks...for caring about me." Angel smiled softly at Charlie who immediately broke down in tears of joy.

Angel scooped up Charlie, handing her over to Vaggie who appeared.

"Ehh, I think this is yours."

"Okay missy, let's get you to bed." Vaggie smiled at Charlie.

"(blabbering and crying) He-he-he said he-for-forgave me! It's so beautiful, Vaggie...!"

"Try to calm down and get some sleep sis!" I called out as Vaggie carried Charlie to bed.

"Hey, how about that drink Angel?" Said Husk.

"You read my mind." Angel said following Husk to the bar.

"Enjoy your drinks fellas, I'm off to take a shower then go to bed." I waved farewell and went upstairs.
