Chapter 20
"See you guys later." Ginger told the others, pulling out her phone as she walked to her next class.
How's it going Red?
Not too bad so far. How's work?
Got a classic in. Working on a 67 impala
Nice! Have fun
You too babe. Talk to you later
Ginger stopped by her locker, grabbed some mints and a new notebook from her bag, then headed to her next class. It was journalism. She always loved writing and the smell of fresh pencils sharpened. "Hello Ginger." "Hey Mipsey." She answered, confused why the girl would be talking to her. "I didn't know you were in journalism." "I need something more on my transcript." "Oh, yeah." She said sitting down. "So," Mipsey slid into the chair next to her, "So you and Will Patterson are dating huh?" "Yeah, we are." "That's great. I think you make a great couple." "Oh, well thanks, Mipsey." Still confused. "Hey, is your brother seeing anyone too by chance?" Ginger shook her head, catching on to why she was being so nice. "Oh, that's interesting." Mipsey answered with a smile and turned her attention forward as the teacher began to speak.
"Welcome to photography 101. You will learn the basics this year and even take some pictures for the drama club and yearbook." The teacher was saying. "Mrs. Gibson, what if we are in drama as well?" Brandon asked from his seat next to Carl in the back of the room. "We will make it work Mr. Higsby." Dodie was sitting up front and had turned around when Brandon was speaking. Her eyes landed on Carl who was sitting quietly. "He looks really good today." She thought. Carl looked up and she turned around quickly, but he had noticed her staring and grinned slightly. "That's not obvious." He thought, before Mrs. Gibson continued going over the plan for the year.
"The end of the last first day." Dodie sighed. "You're not going to do that every day are you?" Ginger asked. "Where's Macie?" "Band practice." Hoodsey told them, walking up with Carl. "Oh, guess we'll have to ask her about her last first day later." Ginger groaned, "Dodie." "Hey sis, you ready to bounce?" Carl asked, nodding at a couple people who waved at him. He gave Hoodsey a fist bump, and started towards the parking lot. "Yeah, mom needs us to watch Kalie so she can go to work." "Call you later Ging. Bye Carl." Dodie called.
"How was the first day back?" Lois asked, getting ready for work. "Pretty good. Got the classes I wanted." Ginger answered. "How bout you Carl?" "It wasn't the worst." "Wow, a glowing review." "Well, nice catching up, you have a good night at work. I'm going to head up to my room and contemplate my plans for the evening." "Is Will coming over?" "He already stopped by before you got home. We agreed we need to make sure school and work remain priorities." "Color me impressed. Now, David will be home in a few hours and I won't be back until around midnight or so. Keep an eye on your sister." "Where is she?" "Napping. She conked out when we got home." "Have a good night mom." "You too kiddo."
The rest of the week went by pretty much the same with just a little bit of differences. Chet was able to sit with Dodie during lunch Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and spent them throwing cheeseballs at unsuspecting tables, to Dodies annoyance. Him joining them also didn't leave an empty seat for Carl to join them to her disappointment but Dodie sat in front of him in photography. Chet ended up in detention again Friday.
"I swear, you'd think he'd learn to stop spitting paper at people's heads." Dodie complained at the lunch table. "Maybe he's hard headed." Macie suggested as Once again, Carl and Hoodsey walked up. "I'm gonna sit with the guys. Is that ok?" Hoodsey asked, looking at her with a smile. "Of course." He kissed her lips softly. "Uh eww, sister here." Dodie said. "Then don't look." Hoodsey grinned before kissing Macie one more time. "Nice Hoods." Carl laughed, when they sat down with Blake and Brandon.
"Blakey boy, Brando." He said, acknowledging his other friends. "Hello Carl hello Hoodsey." Brandon answered. "Sup." Hoodsey said, taking a bite of his burger. "I say Carl, it seems you're getting quite the attention aren't you?" Blake spoke, noticing the girls walking over to sit, but looking disappointed when they saw it was a smaller table with no room for them. "You never know Blakey boy, maybe they wanted to sit by you." "Maybe they wanted to sit by me." "Maybe they did Brando."
