Chapter 21

"Finally it's Friday and the last class of the day." Miranda said, sitting next to Courtney. "Oh Miranda, it hasn't been all bad." "At least we don't have as much homework so far." "Thankfully." "Oh Mr. Peter's, may I have a pass?" Caurtney asked her math teacher with a smile. She got up, and headed out, towards the girls bathroom. After using it, she checked her hair and make up, before going out, heading back to class.

She was walking back when she saw Carl turning down the hall and walking towards her. When he saw her, he gave her a smile. "Miss Gripling." "How's your first week back Foutley?" "Can't complain." "Who is that strange boy you sit with at lunch?" He laughed, "You mean besides your brother? That's Brandon." "Oh I see." She stood there, unsure of what to say. Carl grinned, "Did you need something or are you just ditching?" "Me? Ditch?" "That's what I said." "Why, I would never." He stepped closer and looked down at her. "I'm sure there's a bad girl in there somewhere." He said quietly. "I..I..was just going to ask…if you knew when the next gallery opening was." Carl smiled, "Tomorrow night." "Oh, yes, well, maybe I'll see you there." He, once again, tucked her hair behind her ear. "Then maybe I'll see you around." And he walked back to his class.

Courtney walked back to class and sat down in her seat. "Ok, why are you smiling like that?" Miranda whispered, looking at her. "Because it's Friday of course." "Uh huh. Right." When school ended the two girls walked to their side by side lockers. "Yo Courtney, looking hot today." She looked and saw a boy with brown hair and a football jersey walking up to her. "Hello Jeff." "So..You, me, an extra large popcorn, and the new Henry Greer movie tomorrow. What do you think?" "While that sounds delightful, I'm afraid I have plans tomorrow evening." She answered, putting her books in her locker and slamming it close before walking away leaving the disappointed boy behind.

"Wait, what are you doing tomorrow?" Miranda asked. "My mother and I have plans, that's all." "Right." Darren walked over, catching up to the girls. "Hey babe, got practice but I'll call you." He kissed her lips and smiled. "Alright. Talk to you later." He turned and headed towards the field, and the two girls walked towards the door met by Mipsey and James, another boy on the football team. "Yo Courtney. Looking hot. When you gonna let me take you out?" "We'll see." James smiled. "Ah, playing hard to get. Ok, I'm down with that." He said laughing as he also walked out to the field.

"That wasn't your hard to get tone. That was, 'I'm not interested' tone." Mrianda commented. "We'll see means we'll see Miranda." Courtney smiled. When the three walked outside, they saw Ginger with Dodie, Chet, and Macie standing in the parking lot. "Oh Ginger," Courtney called, "What are you all doing?" "Waiting for Carl and Hoodsey." Dodie answered. "Isn't that them over there?" Miranda asked, pointing towards the front of the school.

Carl and Hoodsey were walking over, and three of the six girls smiled. But, before the guys could reach them a tall girl with blonde hair and pink highlights wearing a cheerleader uniform walked up to them with a smile. They stopped and after a minute, Hoodsey walked over. "What's that about?" Mipsey demanded. Hoodsey kissed Macie and grabbed her hand before answering. "I don't know. Christy wanted to talk to him." "As in, Christy Meyers?" "Yeah. she's been asking about him." Ginger said. The group watched the two talking, and a few of them were feeling kind of jealous when they saw Christy putting her hand on his arm and Carl smile.

After a few more minutes, Christy gave Carl a piece of paper and left. Carl crumpled the paper and walked over to them. "Are you finally ready to go?" "Sorry sis, I was detained. I am ready when you are." "You should totally sit with us at lunch Monday." Mipsey smiled at Carl. "Might do that." He answered with a small smile. She pulled out a piece of paper and a pen, writing her number down, handing it to him. "Call me." He gave her a smile that made her giggle, as she walked away and crumpled it too, before tossing both papers into the metal trash can next to him. "You ready Courtney?" Miranda asked, indicating her car nearby. "Oh yes. I will see you all later. Toodles." She said, walking with Miranda. She looked back and made eye contact with Carl. He smiled at her before getting in the passenger seat.

"I got in!" Will exclaimed, picking up Ginger and spinning her around. "Will! That's awesome!" She said with a big smile. "Thanks babe. I can't believe it. I even got a scholarship." The two walked into the living room in Ginger's house and sat on the couch. "I knew you could do it." "I start in January." "You're going to do great, babe." "And, it's only an hour and a half away. I'll come down a couple weekends a month." "It's ok Will. We will make it work. I'm just so proud of you." She said, kissing him.
