"Sam, do you have a minute? I need to talk to you about something."

Doctor Sam Greenburg was one of the hospitals Psychiatrists. He was excellent and was very good at his job. He stopped and looked Jamie in the eye.

"I'm pretty sure you don't have post postpartum depression."

Jamie put his hands up and shook his head.

"No. But I do need someone to talk to. Do you have any appointments open for later this afternoon?"

Doctor Greenburg pulled up his schedule on his phone.

"I have time to squeeze you in. How does 3-4pm sound?"
Jamie nodded.

"That'd be great thanks."

Both doctors shook hands, and they parted ways. Jamie opened his tablet and pulled up his next patient's chart.

"Isabel Myers. This might be a difficult one."

Looking over Isabel's chart, he blew out a breath and plastered a smile on his face, knocking on her door. He heard a strained voice come from behind it.

"Come in…"

Opening the door slowly, Jamie entered and saw Isabel squatting on the floor next to the bed. He tried not to raise his eyebrows. Instead, he got down to her level and held his hands out.

"Hi Isabel. Do you feel like you need to push?"

Isabel nodded her head.

"YES!"

Jamie quickly got to his feet and went over to wash his hands at the sink, then dried them. Sabrina helped him put gloves on and a mask. Resuming his position on the floor in front of Isabel, Jamie gave her a sympathetic look.

"Isabel, I know you're in quite a bit of pain right now, but is it ok if I take a quick look?"

Isabel gave a frustrated grunt but nodded her head.

"YES!"

Jamie's eyes widened and then he looked up at Isabel.

"Ok Isabel, I see the head. I want you to push. Not too hard. Then after the head is out, push as hard as you can. Alright?"

Isabel nodded but became alarmed.

"Don't drop my baby!"

Jamie got a determined look in his eyes.

"I promise I won't drop your baby. I'm just here to catch."

Isabel nodded her head and gave a push, Sabrina and Marina flanking either side of her. Jamie kept encouraging her.

"Keeping pushing Isabel. That's it."

Sabrina wiped the sweat from Isabel's forehead and nodded.

"You're doing great Isabel. Keep pushing."

Isabel nodded and grunted. Jamie looked up for the briefest of moments.

"Isabel, you're straining. Which means your pushing too hard."

Shooting a look of pain and frustration at Jamie, Isabel shook her head, flustered.

"I can't control it! My body says to push, so I'm pushing! I just want this baby out of me!"

Jamie nodded and kept encouraging Isabel.

"Keep pushing Isabel. That's it. One more for me and the baby's head should be out."

Isabel felt herself leaning into Sabrina and Marina.

"Oh! I should've had a water birth!"

Jamie tried not wrinkle his nose as he got a whiff of something. He ignored it and kept his concentration on Isabel.

"You're doing great Isabel. One more push and the head will be out. Keep going."

If Isabel's face could've turned redder, it was doing so right now.

"I'm sorry Doctor Reagan! I didn't know I needed to go!"

Jamie kept his focus on bringing a healthy baby into the world.

"It's ok Isabel. Sometimes during labor, diarrhea happens. Don't be embarrassed. Your baby will be here in a few minutes. Give me another push now. That's it. One more. Good. Ok the head is out! Now I want you to give me a bug push now. Big push. Here come the shoulders. One more big push for me! That's it! Ok! It's a girl!"

Jamie smiled and held up the screaming little girl so that Isabel could see her. A watery smile graced her lips.

"Hello May. I'm your mama. Isabel."

Isabel looked up as the door opened and in came her very anxious/flustered husband Alex. He rushed towards his wife and looked at his baby girl still in Jamie's arms.

"She's here… She's beautiful. Wait, Isabel, why are you squatting on the floor?"

Isabel looked up at her husband and Jamie and Sabrina made quick work of separating mother and daughter.

"This is where I gave birth to her. I couldn't make it to the bed."

Alex nodded his head and then wrinkled his nose.

"What's that smell?"

Isabel's face turned a shade of red. Swallowing; she took a breath in and spoke.

"I had an accident as May was coming out."

Jamie projected his voice towards Alex as he stayed crouched down in front of Isabel.

"Sometimes during labor, diarrhea happens. Your daughter didn't get any of it on her. She's perfectly healthy. Sabrina is going to take her over to the scale and get her weighed, measured and give her a bath. Then the pediatrician, Doctor Rhodes is going to check her out."

Alex nodded and followed Sabrina over to the counter with the scale. Jamie turned his attention back to Isabel and gave her a confident look.

"Isabel, we have one last thing to do and then you can rest. You still have to deliver the afterbirth. Now I want you to give me a couple of big pushes and then you'll be done."

Isabel nodded her head and leaned into Marina. She tried not to stare at it as Jamie placed it in a metal tray off to the side. Making a face Isabel swallowed and spoke once more.

"That's disgusting."

Jamie nodded sympathetically.

"Yeah, you probably don't want to be looking at that. Sabrina and Marina will get you all cleaned up and into bed to rest, and then I want you up and out of bed in 4 hours."

Isabel groaned and looked at Jamie.

"Out of bed and walking? I feel like I just scraped my insides out. I could sleep for two days straight."

Jamie nodded and discarded his soiled gloves and mask in the biohazardous waste bin by the door.

"You did great mom. Get some rest."

As Jamie was leaving out the door, he heard Isabel call out to her husband Alex.

"The next baby we have, we're doing a water birth."

Jamie walked out of the room and smiled. A frown now replaced it. It was now well after 6pm. He'd missed his appointment with Doctor Greenburg. He'd have to reschedule. He'd think about it tomorrow, now all he wanted to do was go home and be with Eddie and the kids.

Hanging his coat on the coat rack, Jamie blew out a breath and plastered a smile on his face. Maisie was at the base of the stairs.

"Hi daddy."

Jamie scooped her up into her arms and tickled her.

"Hi peanut. How was your day?"

Maisie smiled but then frowned.

"It was good until Luna popped on the carpet. Pat helped me clean it up. Sorry daddy."

Jamie only smiled.

"You have nothing to be sorry about. You and Pat took care of it together."

Putting Maisie down, he watched as she climbed the stairs and disappeared into her bedroom. Looking around, he found there was no one else downstairs. Going up, he made a beeline towards the bedroom. Entering, he found Eddie putting away the last of the laundry.

"Hey beautiful."

Eddie turned and smiled.

"Good your home."

Jamie pulled Eddie into his arms, kissing the back of her neck. He whispered in her ear.

"We have some time to ourselves."

Eddie felt her lips curling up into a smile.

"You read my mind lambchop."
