POV Naruto
This was all a bit overwhelming. First he finds out his best friend is actually his twin sister, now he's not only moving house but to his own compound where he won't have to do any chores except homework. Lot's and lot's of homework. And now he was being measured up for his new clothing. Which he wasn't paying for. And would stick out like Ruka-san's did.
"Do you want any patterns on your clothes?" He was so stuck in his thoughts he almost didn't hear her.
"Hn? Patterns? Like what?" He didn't know he could have patterns to.
"Anything you like. Ruka-san likes small flowers but I don't think that's for you. What do you think about leaves? Or flames?"
"Can I have both, on different clothes I mean?"
"Of course, I think I have some good idea's for you. I know you want most of your tops to be orange but I've been ordered to make some white and some black ones as well. You can go now, Your clothes should be ready in a week, I'll deliver them to the compound myself."
The kind seamstress bowed to him as he left which felt weird but guessed he'd have to get used to it.
Ruka-chan, Kakashi-san and Keigo-san were all waiting outside for him so that they could go to the compound together.
The compound was in a nice part of the village and was quite large. It had been cleaned and four bedrooms had been made ready so that Kakashi-san and Keigo-san could stay with them as complete Guardians.
There were already two guards at the gates and two on each outside wall. The gates were elegant and tall, the main door could be seen not far behind. That to was large and made out of heavy oak. There was a leaf pattern etched into the wood.
As the four entered Naruto-san couldn't believe how small he felt in the extensive building. The polished floorboards were unscratched and there was even a small room to remove their shoes before they entered the wide living space. The ceiling was high and the walls painted magnolia. The twins were told they could decorate the space as they wished but Minato's old furnishings were barely used and therefore still comfortable. There was also a large, stone fireplace in the living room.
The house staff were lined up so that the two could make their acquaintance's. Ruka-san went first to show Naruto-san how to do it without embarrassing himself. It stwill wasn't easy but it was over quickly and the staff dispersed and it soon looked as though they'd never been there.
The kitchen was just as impressive with a large, marble countertop and everything necessary for anything they wanted to eat.
There was a separate dining room with a natural oak dining table with silver cutlery already set out.
They both checked their large but fairly plain bedrooms out, except Ruka-chan's was already filled with her clothes. Naruto-kun's had as well but only enough until his new clothes arrived.
Next they inspected the expansive training grounds. There was plenty of space for both of them to use them at once and plenty of obstacles to help to.
Then there was the garden with a large deck followed by an almost meadow sized lawn. There was a small blue red shed in one corner at the back and a small maze in the middle.
After they started dinner Kakashi-san and Keigo-san told the two not to mention their relationship until Naruto's clothes were ready. His new last name wouldn't be used until next week either.
Once Naruto-kun was in bed he thought over the day. The bedroom felt to big. His frog purse had been swapped for a proper wallet, which also felt wrong as the frog purse had been one of his only possessions. Ruka-chan was his sister. That did mean he could call her Ruka-chan now, right? He was awake for most of the night and waited for the next weeks facade to begin.
POV Ruka
Ruka had been surprised by her fathers compound. She didn't expect it to be so clean and informal. Her room felt weird but only because it was new. What was even weirder was finding out her best friend was her brother. She was sure they would fall back into the same old rhythm though.
She was nervous about what Naruto-kun was going through though, and how they would have to pretend nothing was wrong for the next week. She told herself to stay calm, they would get through this, together.
The Next Day POV Naruto and Ruka
As the two walked to the Academy everyone stared at Ruka-san, Kakashi-san and Naruto-san. Keigo-san couldn't be seen still for the next week. Everyone who saw Naruto-san in the upper class quarter was wondering what he was doing there.
As they continued people who knew they talked wondered why Naruto-san was coming from the other side of the village than usual.
Ruka-san looked more stoic than usual and Naruto-was unusually edgy. That is, more edgy than normal. He didn't have that grin on his face and only looked at the ground in front of his feet.
When they reached the Academy everyone noticed that though they entered together, the two weren't talking. They still sat together but their restlessness was obvious.
As the days went on they started to talk more but it was in whispers.
POV Naruto In the Namikaze Living Space
Naruto-kun and Ruka-chan sat alone watching the evening fire. Naruto-kun turned to her and spoke with a quiet voice.
"Ruka-chan, can I tell you something?"
Ruka-chan looked at him curiously. He sounded nervous.
"Of course Naruto-kun."
Naruto-kun lowered his head. "I'm scared Ruka-chan. Everyone already doesn't like me, what are they going to do when I start walking around wearing posh clothes and they all have to call me -san? They aren't going to stop treating me that differently, and it'll make them disrespect you to. I don't want that."
"Naruto-kun, I'm your sister, I'd do anything in the world for you. Anyway, as soon as you become my official brother tomorrow you aren't just the orphaned kid demon. You're the Fourth Hokage's Son. Anyone stupid enough to mess with you mess's with not just me, but Keigo-san and the Hokage as well. You aren't just any posh kid who thinks he can get away with stuff any more. Your royalty. And anyone who messes with royalty has a very bad thing coming for them.
Do you know what happens to people who do that?"
Naruto-kun shook his head.
Ruka-chan gave a small mischievous grin. "They get to meet the ANBU interrogation team."
The corner of Naruto-kun's mouth lifted for a second. Then he sighed.
"I'm going to go and try on my new clothes. Do you want to see them?"
Ruka-chan grinned and they went to Naruto-kuns room.
Most of his tops were orange. some were plain orange and others had flames licking up the three-quarter -length sleeves. All of them were a similar style to Ruka-chan's except the flap was straight and sewn shut with three buttons going down from the top. The buttons were colour coordinated to the top's. The plain orange one's had orange buttons, the ones with flames had red. the material was similar to silk except more thermal. The tops had a small, circular neck line but the overlapping material above the bottons was cut straight, under his collarbone. The shirt's only went down to his pelvis so there was no need for slits for combat access. His white and black tops were the same style.
He had two black combat coats. The material was the same design as Ruka-chan's except instead of a floral pattern one coat was plain and the other had a small black pile of leaves mirroring each other at the bottom corners. Like Ruka-chan's they buttoned down the middle, except he had a short collar that stood up straight and opened naturally in the centre above the fastenings. The collar was low enough for ease of movement with the opening giving him better access for looking around. There were two pockets for weapons or a personal medical kit. He had another in a slightly dulled orange. Not as bright as the shirts. He had an orange one to where flames played in the opening corners of his collar and at the bottom. He also had the same access slits at the sides.
His new combat trousers were black and made of the same professional material as Ruka-chan's.
He also had several pairs of casual trousers made in the same material as his shirts, similar to silk but stiffer. He had these in black, orange and red. The orange ones had a flame lining the pockets.
Ha had a new funeral set and even his pyjama's were orange and red silk, completely covered in flames. He had his first dressing gown and brand new black boxers.
Naruto-kun tested out an orange top with flames and was surprised at how easy it was to move in it. He guessed all his tops would feel the same since they were all the same design. The strange material felt odd on his skin. He checked it out in the floor length mirror before showing Ruka-chan.
She loved it. She'd wondered what Naruto-kun's clothes would look like for a while now.
She walked in and found the casual trousers and pulled out some tops Naruto-kun had missed. They were similar to the combat tops but mid-thigh length and Ruka-chan realised Naruto-kun's mistake. She laughed and pointed at the pile of combat tops, one of which he was wearing.
"These are combat tops. You should only need them for the Academy right now. Never wear them with trousers that aren't designed for combat or you'll make a fool of yourself." Then she pointed to a much more detailed thigh-length top she was holding and to the others from that pile. "You wear these when you want to go out casually," she put the top down and picked up a slightly more formal design. "and you wear these with black trousers for formal events." She rummaged around a bit more. "Somewhere around here you should have a casual coat, oh, here it is. I know it looks a lot like the combat coats so keep it somewhere else so you don't get confused. There might be another one so you can mix styles, ah, here it is. One black, one red. You'll notice there are no slits at the thighs for access to your combat trousers. If you get confused just look for that or ask Keigo-san for help."
Naruto-kun shuffled his feet a little. Tomorrow there would be an announcement to the village of Naruto-kun's new name. The children weren't invited but Ruka-chan and Naruto-san had to miss morning class to be there.
"So, what do I wear for the announcement tomorrow?"
"Ah..." Ruka-chan picked out a formal black shirt out, some black trousers and his black coat. "I think the shirt should be black because of what is happening and like I said, always wear black trousers to formal events. The red coat isn't really appropriate either, that's why I chose the black one. I'll put them aside for you so you don't accidentally put on a combat coat."
While putting his clothes away in sections so he wouldn't get them mixed up Naruto-kun found two other coats. An orange one and a more casual black one with flames riding up from the bottom and up the sleeves. Ruka-chan probably would have said that one wasn't appropriate either.
Then he took a long hot shower, slipped into his new silk pyjamas and easily fell asleep on the soft bed.
The Next Day
Naruto-kun struggled into his unfamiliar formal wear before breakfast. His nerves were making his stomach churn but guessed he'd better eat something. His cereal was ready and waiting for him by Ruka-chan. Keigo-san had checked in on him earlier and was waiting quietly with Kakashi-san.
When he arrived in the dining room Keigo-san spoke up. "First we will go and do the announcement, then we will come back here where you will change into your Academy combat clothes and we will grab a treat before heading to the Academy after lunch. Kakashi-san and I will be with you both if anything happens. Naruto-san, sit up while you're eating."
Naruto-kun sighed and sat up. He'd forgotten how he must behave so differently from now on. There were a lot of mannerisms to be learnt in one week and today was the first proper test.
As they walked to the temporary platform people stared at his attire and Keigo-san became more intense than usual. The two guards stood protectively behind their charges as they walked.
Ruka-chan and Naruto-kun mounted the stage and walked to the right of the Hokage. Almost the whole village had turned up, some following only due to curiosity. The Hokage cleared his throat and gestured to Ruka-chan.
"As you may or may not know this young lady is the Honourable Daughter of the Fourth Hokage, Ruka-Namikaze. I am here to announce that Uzumaki-Naruto is her twin brother and that I am changing the Honourable Son's name to Uzumaki-Namikaze. It was one of his father's dying last wishes for him to be called an Uzumaki, but due to several circumstances I have found that it is time to change that, and since the Honourable Daughter is his twin sister they are both Uzumaki's since it was their mothers last name.
I am sure you all know what would happen to you should you attempt to harm or mistreat either of the two Honourable children. I ask you to respect Naruto-sans new status and understand the implications of your actions should I hear of anything.
I must also impress upon you that he is the true blood of Minato Namikaze as is the Honourable Daughter."
There was a breath in before the villagers started yelling against the situation and started using abusive language.
Kakashi-san and Keigo-san rushed both children off the platform to safety. They walked home leaving the Hokage to deal with the aftermath. Naruto-kun looked down sadly. Even with the Hokage's warning most of the villagers had become abusive. Keigo-san settled a comforting hand on his shoulder as they walked. Ruka-chan, though sad herself tried to comfort her brother.
"It'll be okay Naruto-kun. Just think, even though we had to leave most of those villagers are being arrested right now just for that. They don't know what's coming for them but they'll not try it again once they meet the ANBU. They should have listened to the Hokage."
Naruto-kun gave a small smile at her words. He was still sad though. He might have wanted to be seen and not ignored in the village but he had never wished revenge on them like this. It troubled him what consequences might come their way. Whatever it was, it didn't sound nice.
When they got back Naruto-kun chose to wear his orange combat coat and the combat shirt he tried on yesterday with the flames. He didn't want to wear another black coat because it was a reminder of that morning.
Kakashi-san and Keigo-san had asked the cook for ramen to cheer the two up before leaving for the Academy. She made a lot knowing the stomachs of the two after the first few days.
As expected, Ruka-chan and Naruto-kun were easily cheered up by the pork ramen before realizing they were both wearing orange now. They laughed and Naruto-kun collected his new set of shuriken and kunai.
The walk to the Academy was tense. Naruto-kun had to keep reminding himself to look up and look passive. Keigo-san once again put a calming hand on his shoulder as Naruto-kun made fists. Even Ruka-chan was slightly nervous at the looks the villagers gave them both as they passed. Kakashi-san did nothing to placate her nerves though. He just walked next to Keigo-san, keeping an eye out for anything worse.
As the four of them walked onto the grounds they found themselves late for their shuriken lesson. It didn't matter, they were expected to be late today. Keigo-san took his hand off Naruto-kun's shoulder before the other children could turn around and see.
Once they did turn to face them and saw Naruto-kun wearing royal clothes with Keigo-san behind him there were different responses. Sasuke-kun was inwardly confused but kept his bored face. Others stayed back unsure of what to do. After a brief pause Kiba-kun shouted out.
"Hey dobe! What do you think you're doing?"
Then others started to shout similar things. It took less than two minutes for Keigo-san to shut them up.
"You will refer to him as either the Honourable Son of the Fourth Hokage or Naruto-san. Children's insults are not usually dealt with by ANBU like your parents will be but, as the Honourable Son's Guardian I will not hesitate to punish you and I am not as kind as your sensei when it comes to my job. Is that clear?"
The frightened children nodded. He would never do anything terrible to them, they just needed to be scared a little.
"I also have that right with the Honourable Daughter." Kakashi-san decided to say, but less forcefully.
All the children suddenly said "Hn?" Of course they had seen Ruka-san with Kakashi-san a lot but they didn't know he could do that.
"We're twins." Ruka-san stated monotonously.
One of the kids put their hand up.
"Hai?" She sighed.
"Does that mean Naruto-san is living in the Hokage compound now?"
"No, we moved to our fathers compound over a week ago."
"You have your own compound!"
"Yes. Is that a problem?"
"No!" The speaker quickly backtracked.
Iruka-sensei stepped in. "Alright, that's enough staring. Get back in line, you two as well." He gestured for the twins to come over.
It was the same exercise as the last two weeks and Naruto-kun had been having extra lessons so he was almost average now.
Naruto-kun was behind Ruka-chan. when the last person returned behind him he heard a whisper.
"I don't care what Keigo-san says. Your not anything honourable. Your just the dirt under our feet." The boy yelped as Keigo-san grabbed the boys jacket at the scruff of his neck and lifted him off his feet. Keigo-san thrust him into the dirt and crouched down.
"Does that dirt look like the Honourable Son to you? And if you say yes you're bound for a lot of trouble."
The Boy lifted his face out of the dirt. "Yes." He spat at Keigo-san.
Keigo-san dragged the boy to the front of the class and used a kunai to pin him to the tree they were practicing on. Iruka-sensei had a bad feeling about this but knew he couldn't interfere.
Keigo-san turned and addressed the class brightly. "I have an idea, why don't we practice shuriken on him?" He pointed at the boy.
The class stared at him in shock. "No? No one? Alright I'll go first." Keigo-san turned quickly and sent shuriken grazing across different parts of his jacket pinning him harder to the tree. He turned back to the rest of the class.
"What do you think? I know I didn't get them in a straight line but at least they all hit the tree, right?" He waved towards the kid who was, by this time, terrified.
The children facing him noticed Keigo-san had purposefully not hit him but had got terrifyingly close. It was true precision. The children started to nod in understanding. Not only at what could happen to them but also how good they needed to learn to be to do that.
Then Keigo-san turned to the poor boy and lowered his voice to a whisper. "Next time I won't be so kind." The boy whimpered as Keigo-san retrieved his shuriken and kunai. "Now get to the back of the class." The boy scurried to the back of the line.
Keigo-san looked in Iruka-sensei's direction. "Over to you, Iruka-san." Then he went back to his hiding place near Naruto-kun.
Iruka-sensei dragged his eyes away from Keigo-san and his thoughts on what had just happened and restarted the class.
