Remus, The Wolf Prince
"Teddy needs a mother," Remus said, wanting to tell them about Hermione.
Moony interjected, tell him we need a wife, a mate. Remus rolled his eyes; the evil wolf didn't want to mourn Dora.
"I know," Fenrir said. "We will help you raise him," both Fenrir and his mom said in unison.
"Son, do you have someone in mind? Do tell." Fenrir said.
Remus decided to tell them the truth. "Yes, I do, but maybe it is not a possibility." He sounded discouraged.
"Why is that? You are wealthy, handsome, and in reality, you are a prince, royalty amongst our people. Let's say, hmm, the Malfoy are paupers compared to us. You will learn; we come from the Blue-world; we can talk later on today. But who is her father? Fenrir looked puzzled.
"She is Lucius' child, and you know him; he will never accept me." Now, Remus looked hopeless. How sad, though it seems now I have money, and I might be some sort of prince, I am a wolf.
"He has no daughters; I know, I am his friend." Fenrir observed; Lucius was his best friend.
Remus told them about Lucius. He went when he said Hermione she was his child, and what he had learned about the Black sister's wrongdoings, "He wasn't lying, when Hermione's Color Vario stopped, there was no denying, she is his child. Seconds later, someone tried to kill her with a poisoned dart; I am sure it was Narcissa. That is my wretched luck, now I am not married, and she is old enough, and I find out she is a Malfoy."
Fenrir said they would talk about it later and not to worry about it. "I believe it will happen; you will get your witch. Of course, you know I was the one who caught her and delivered her to Bella to be tortured and nearly killed, and I am your father. Then, there is the matter of William Weasley; he is practically her family. I must talk to her, sorry son." Fenrir grimaced, feeling guilty once again, worried he might have messed his son's chances.
"Son, in the meantime, there is much to learn. I don't want to rule because I am not fit to do so. Instead, I will help with Teddy and the other children sure to come. We are here; let us go in." They stopped in front of a door guarded by several warriors. They all dressed alike, a uniform, he guessed, considering Fenrir also wore a similar strange garb. He wondered if he would need to dress like Fenrir, not quite like Lucius. Nonetheless, it looked like formal wear.
They went into a darkened room, stinking of dirt and unwashed bodies, where a tall gaunt male sat by the window.
"Get out, I want no visitors, take the food away. Let me die as I wish; why force me to stay alive? Cut my head off. Why lock me and freeze my wolf? Let me be." He growled and snarled.
Remus saw trays of uneaten food. Teddy started crying at the nasty loud voice and the snarls.
The man's head turned like a whip moves, exceptionally fast. He sniffed the air, carefully. "A pup, a Greyback pup? Is this a fucking trick? If so out, ou—." He stopped in mid sentence, at Teddy's wailing. "Not a trick?" The room was suddenly brightly lit.
Remus saw, to his amazement, someone who looked a bit like him, gaunt, almost skin and bones. He was dressed in rags, though his waist length hair has greasy and matted, it was like Fenrir's, and now his. The man looked from Remus to Teddy, then pointed at Remus, "Who are you? Come nearer."
All the while Fenrir stood. Remus stepped closer and the man took Remus' hand. He sniffed it and pointed his wrist towards Remus. A blue light came out of a bracelet, enveloping Remus, and for a few seconds, Remus was his wolf. "How, how? All others were dead, gone. How? How do we have two Greybacks, one a pup? Who are they?"
"Father, he is Remus, my son. He wasn't here during the attack," Fenrir took Teddy from Remus' mother, "and this baby, is your grandson."
"A mate, you had none." He said when Fenrir walked in front of him.
"I did, I will explain later. His name is Teddy." Fenrir explained.
His father moved his hand and the room's stink was gone. He was now wearing clean garments: a long tunic embroidered with gold threads, with a heavy belt studded with gems, around his waist. Remus noticed the heavy good buckle, probably real gold; he wore britches and boots, like Fenrir's. His hair was clean and tied. He looked a little like Remus, maybe in his high thirties.
He took Teddy in his arms, sinking his face on the small body. Teddy quit crying, making little happy noises. The tall man held Teddy and covered him with kisses, "We live. New life, he is perfection with such nice hair, a blue wolf," he chuckled and looked at Remus, "He is yours, where is your mate, bring her?" His sentences were short, and his voice raspy.
"Dead, murdered, she was not my mate but my wife." Remus sighed.
"But the pup lives, he does. He does, and nobody will hurt the pup. The Pup lives." Fenrir's father kissed him again and again.
"Yes father, he does. My son also lives. He is here as you can see. All wasn't lost. I am so very glad you are back. Father, I have a mate." Fenrir introduced her, "She is my wife."
Lear bowed; though he only had eyes for Teddy, making Fenrir grin.
"I want to eat. Let us go outside; pups need the sun. Let's go by the pond and bring a feast. Maybe we will go for fresh eggs, take Teddy and Remus, soon." Lear kissed Teddy again. "He is perfect." Teddy smiled making Lear chuckle, "He will be a good egg hunter."
Fenrir guffawed, "You are back!"
Remus asked, "Eggs?" But nobody answered.
Fenrir hugged his father; Teddy was between both. Remus could not believe the eyes of Fenrir, the evilest of wolves, were wet.
Remus looked at his mother, who was also crying. He later found out that Fenrir's father had not left the room in 28 years; not since a traitor had let the Order in to kill a pack of werewolves. Or that was what everyone believed. The Order was not behind the slaughter, as Fenrir had recently found out. Voldemort had led the attack, because Fenrir's father had refused to make an army of werewolves for Tom Riddle. Fenrir had sunk into despair when he realized he had been helping the monster. He had put it together the day before the Battle, when Arthur Weasley had sought him with the information.
Wonders didn't cease at the pond, Fenrir's father lay Teddy on a blanket and shift into into a wolf, the wolf was strong and freeing. "Our wolves are out, this a celebration, a festive occasion." Fenrir declared.
Teddy's pup awoke, and to Remus surprise, a very young pup, shook his body, and many ooh and ah were heard all over the place; the pup was half blue, to everyone's delight. Teddy tried a few steps and yipped. Remus shed tears of happiness. In this form Teddy was less helpless. Many clapped when their ruler lay on the ground and let Teddy climb all over him.
Later, while eating, they talked, "There is still a problem, who let Voldemort know this location? It must be one of us who opened a door into this place. We have a traitor." Fenrir told his father.
"The pup and my grandson will be surrounded by our most trusted warriors, until we find who did it. No more Greybacks will be murdered; do you know any Aurors?" Fenrir's father asked.
Remus smiled, "Grandfather, I am one." He would seek Harry who wanted to be an Auror.
"You can look, but not alone, never alone. And you are no longer an Auror; there is much to learn." Fenrir agreed with his father, Remus was the Greybacks future.
Family
At Malfoy Manor, Lucius and Hermione readied to visit Rodolphus, "My dear, let me talk to Rodolphus as soon as we get there. I feel is important." Hermione nodded.
When they arrived, they found the family looking distraught. Nevertheless, Rodolphus went to them. He whispered, "We had trouble, let my parents explain."
Rabastan, who was pale and gaunt, hurried towards Hermione; he held her and cried. "Our witch; I knew it. I told Rod many times you were family, but he dismissed me. I wanted to kill her today, for many reasons. Your torture hurts me too."
A wizard, who looked like an older Rodolphus and a second who looked like Rabastan came. Each held her, like she was a precious child. "Rodolphus didn't want a murder here. He wants you to decide what to do; but Narcissa should either go to Azkaban or die." He told her.
The other older Lestrange explained. "We were sitting with Narcissa, asking her if she knew about you, and she acted shocked. Then Rodolphus came and told her she had an hour to leave. He told us how the evil Black sisters had thrown our newborn heir in a Muggle rubbish bin, naked. Rab pointed his wand at her, wanting to end her sorry life. She called our Hermione awful names, and lied more, adding that if it were true, you should be dead. We can talk more later; let's say she is lucky to be alive. Our girl, so pretty, meet your grandmother."
They walked towards an older Hermione. She had the same hair, same eyes; she was an older duplicate with dark red hair and streaks of purple. She half lay on a reclaimer. "Sorry my love. I cannot walk; Bella attacked me recently when she came to get books she hid here. I saw her and locked the books. She pointed her wand and nearly cut my legs off, besides inflicting other wounds, and hexes, but a faithful servant called my husbands, so, she ran away. I have my legs, but I lost too much blood. She lied to Rodolphus saying I had attacked her and threatened to further hurt Rabastan. Though I cannot walk at all, I am alive to see you, my dear granddaughter.
Hermione held her, tears ran down her face. She was happy Bella was gone, hopefully forever, but Narcissa remained. She saw Lucius and Rodolphus talking, and Rabastan listening. Currents of angry magic circled the room. "I told you she needed to die, I did." Rabastan said, making it clear he wanted Narcissa dead.
"I wished I had known before; you are right; she should not have walked out of here today. Sorry, my brother." Rodolphus told him.
Lucius had not seen Madame Lestrange for a while and now wondered if he had been wise letting Narcissa stay alive; probably not.
"No more of the nasty sisters, let us celebrate our witch." The grandmother said, calling someone. Several house elves and other magical people entered the room. They all looked at Hermione with affection, the elves fought, bickering, wanting to be the one waiting on her. Two Kneazles, and two fluffy older dogs and two puppies were allowed into the room, all fighting for Hermione's attention. It was a true home welcoming. This was a good day, if not for the shadow of the Black sisters hanging over them like a dark cloud.
Lucius was right, they had a banquet outside, on a terrace set for the occasion. The place was an older palace surrounded by wine vineyards. "We need to talk about your welcoming ball." The grandmother, grinned, holding Hermione's hand who sat by her; it was love at first sight, both ways, same with the grandfathers. Lucius looked around, liking the idea of this land going to his daughter.
On the way out, Rodolphus gifted her one of the puppies. "The MoM doesn't know about them. They are more than they seem. The older dogs are older than Dumbledore. The other puppy Clem is Rabastan's, Sully was mine, and now yours." Hermione hugged him and kissed him, holding the puppy.
The next day, Andromeda came to visit Hermione. "My girl, you have given me life again. I have a niece. You cannot imagine my happiness; I have hope once again."
When they were alone Hermione wanted to know, "I was at my other father's home. Yes, Rodolphus, I like him, odd but I do." She told Andy about Bella injuring her mother-in-law, nearly killing her.
"I know; I know. Madame Lestrange sent me an Owl. She, and I am sorry to say Cissy, were as bad as the Dark Lord, since they were little. They said they would marry Rodolphus and Lucius but couldn't decide which one. However, what they did to you was wrong, changing husbands without their knowledge. Narcissa must be punished; what they did to you is a crime, but Lucius respects his son's mother." Andy looked sad.
"I know, but I have a question, if you didn't have to choose which one of my fathers do you like best?" Hermione waited.
"Perhaps, I am like my sisters; it is a difficult choice." Andy said and both laughed. Lucius stood at the door.
"What choice?" He asked, wondering.
Both witches kept laughing conspiratorially, but didn't answer.
Lucius loved Andy, it was obvious. Hermione wanted both fathers with her. She would work on it, but she had one concern, Narcissa. Hopefully, she wouldn't hurt Andy, her sister.
Rodolphus came the next day for a short visit. His fathers still wanted to kill Narcissa, demanding justice. He had not stopped fighting with Rabastan, who also demanded her death, and was angry Rodolphus had stopped her. Rabastan now suspected Narcissa was one of the ones who abused him. Rodolphus was sorry, but he had not known about Narcissa before he left. Unfortunately, Narcissa slipped away, and they hadn't seen her again, Rodolphus wanted to know if Lucius had heard about her. He had not, and now, both worried endlessly. Lucius knew something had to be done.
Three days earlier the Weasley received an Owl from Lucius to discuss future employment. He wanted to meet with Arthur, Molly, and the children finished with Hogwarts. Arthur and his family came and accepted Lucius's proposal. Those working quit their jobs effective immediately. The twins saw it as saving more money to open their store. The salaries he offered were several times over what Arthur or any of them made.
He offered them houses on the grounds, and to close the Burrow. Though he was planning something better. The times of plenty had arrived at the Weasley. The twins laughed at Ron, calling him an idiot, wasting his time with other witches when he had had Hermione's heart. They both said they wished she had chosen one or both; the said they would have never betrayed her. Ron knew they were right, hoping she would forgive him, but suspecting she was done with him.
Minerva received an invitation, along with the Weasley and other professors and students. Many were wondering after reading Lucius Malfoy was giving a ball in honor of his daughter Hermione Granger Malfoy-Lestrange, why Lestrange many wondered. Malfoy was shocking enough, already. And then, more invitations came to a second grand-ball. They were from Count Lestrange, the oldest of Rodolphus's fathers, announcing a ball in honor of their granddaughter; however, Hermione's name was printed slightly different, it read: Lady Hermione-Granger Lestrange- Malfoy. Gossip spread, many making conjectures, but neither Lucius not the Lestrange were available to explain. Draco lay low, also not available.
Harry came to visit Hermione, he was unfriendly, but not for long. He grinned when he saw her wearing witch's robes. They were beautiful, making him think she looked like a fairytale princess. When he arrived, he missed the invitations to two grand balls since they arrived after he left home.
Harry was in awe looking around her room. "I cannot get my thoughts straight. Phew, look at you, dressed like a proper witch, never thought I would see the day. Nevertheless, I like it." Harry walked around Hermione' suite. The room was a female's room, on her bed he saw a small fluffy dog, and Crosshanks sleeping next to it. By a fireplace, two giant dogs slept.
"Ah the robes; they belonged to my grandmother. Aren't they beautiful? Anyway, I wanted you to know first, though invitations were sent earlier today. I want you to to listen to my other parents." Hermione told him and took him into a large drawing room where the Grangers waited.
The Grangers greeted Harry, then told him about that night long ago. Hermione cried while showing him the picture, which upset him, he hated to see her falling apart. At first, he didn't recognize the grainy photo; though he had seen it once, he had not recognized the women. Neither saw Lucius looking at them; this was his idea.
Harry's hand shook when he realized who the witches in the picture were, "Bella was a monster, it wasn't your fault. You are nothing like her; you are still my family. What I said that day was ridiculous." However, he was no longer so sure he meant the bit about being her family. A couple days ago when Ron asked Harry to intervene, Harry refused, saying he had his own life to think about. Harry could see his answer worried Ron, thinking Harry would try for her. When Ron asked him if that were the case, reminding Harry that he already had everything and could have any witch he wanted, Harry shrugged, not answering.
Hermione fell into Harry's open arms, "My mother threw me, a naked newborn baby, in a rubbish bin, full of dangerous waste, and then, she wanted to kill me." Every time she said it, she cried, now sobbing.
"Let it go, now you have three fathers and a mother; and you also have me." He didn't mention Draco, and he didn't call her his sister, not ever again; he was done with that. Harry would watch and wait; after all, Ron was already out Hermione's life.
Draco stepped in, "And she has a brother, one who has behaved like a fool." Hermione turned to look at him, and Draco stretched his hand, "Let us try again, what do you say?"
Hermione smiled, "Deal," she said stretching her hand, but Draco changed his mind and hugged her briefly and also smiled.
Lucius who stood by the door observed Draco, hoping the Malfoy magic was working, but still keeping an eye on him, not quite convinced of his remorse. His father had told him to watch, saying Narcissa was poison, and she had great influence over her son.
As for Harry, he looked at Draco with profound mistrust, knowing something, if Draco tried to kill or hurt Hermione, he better hide really well, because Harry would be merciless.
They sat in the family drawing room to have tea.
"Sir, you has visitors. Missus Malfoy's father and family." Mipzy announced. They had other callers; since the moment Lady Lestrange heard about Hermione, her health had improved. The family didn't want to wait till Hermione's visit after the Malfoy ball; they came to ask Hermione to come for a few days, to help her grandmother organize the Lestrange ball.
Harry was speechless, when he saw Rodolphus hurrying to hug Hermione. Harry didn't know that Hermione did not have one Death Eater father but two.
