Chapter time!
The next chapter most likely won't be on Friday, btw. It might be a bit earlier, as well as a bit later, but I most likely won't have the time to update on my usual update day.
It should still be next week though, I hope.

Why are you even looking for a teammate in the first place? Did something serious happen to your friend?

So location is once again going to stop us from having all the best players at the tournament, isn't it?
Lovely.

That's actually a valid concern now that I read this. I think we—the organisers of this very tournament—should probably do something about it.

Who would be sponsored then?

I'm not quite sure yet. We might decide that based on some other minor tournament, actually. One that would take place online, with the prize being a sponsor flight to Vale for the proper tournament for every team that did well enough.

Team RVRB had a fight.
Apparently, Nora Valkyrie had enough of her teammate acting so rudely towards Team WJNI and decided to confront the girl about it. It quickly had turned out to be a mistake, as the confrontation almost instantaneously transformed into a proper verbal fight between teammates.
In the end, when the rest of the team stood with Nora regarding this issue, Blake decided to run away instead of dealing with the situation.
At least, that was what Weiss had managed to understand after receiving the recounting of what happened from three-fourths of the team. The fact that the majority of this recounting seemed to be quite biased against the only side that wasn't here to defend herself didn't help her understanding of the situation at all.
The only thing she could be sure of was that Blake was currently angry at the rest of her team, and they couldn't really bring her back to Beacon at the moment.
Weiss let out a groan.
It was definitely far too late to deal with this whole situation, in her opinion.
While she was incredibly grateful to the majority of team RVRB for standing up for her, she really wished they actually hadn't bothered doing that. If they simply decided to let her handle the black haired girl instead, they wouldn't have been in this mess.
She barely even noticed any of that behaviour from Blake in the first place!
It wouldn't have been an issue for her to deal with it for a little bit longer.
Weiss did her best to not show how annoyed she was at the whole situation.
Why did she have to deal with it right now?
It would have been terrible dealing with a runaway Beacon student on its own. However, it was very obvious that another—far more immediate—problem was already brewing in the team RVRB.
The three remaining members of Team Reverb looked ready to start another fight amongst each other.
"I didn't want her to run away!" Nora protested. "I simply thought that she was acting rude. You would have had a similar conversation with me if I was acting similarly, without a doubt."
Ruby frowned.
"Well, you could have talked to her a little more nicely!" The younger girl said. "We wouldn't have this issue if you weren't so forceful with your confrontation! We would have still had our entire team together!"
Nora swung her arms angrily.
"You agreed with me!"
Ruby winced.
"You really should have been the one to confront Blake first, Ruby." Ren added in a calm voice. "I'm sure we would have avoided this if you had been the one to deal with this instead."
Ruby turned towards her only male teammate.
"I-" She hesitated.
The hesitation in the younger girl appeared to be enough for Yang to get involved in the fight, as she positioned herself in front of her younger sister and began to glare at the dark-haired boy.
"You've got a problem with my sister?" The blonde brawler challenged. "She's my sister and the best team leader you could possibly have. You better show her some respect, frail boy."
Ren raised his arms in a placating manner.
"I do respect her." The boy said. "I genuinely believe that she would have handled the situation well had she been the one to confront Blake first."
Yang frowned.
As the fight in front of them played out, Weiss slowly turned towards the rest of her team.
After seeing how none of the other teams she interacted with could get along well with each other, she was really glad she and her friends ensured they would be placed on the same team during the initiation.
Dealing with such a fight on a daily basis would have been a nightmare.
Thankfully, she wouldn't have to struggle with such issues with her team in the future.
"Hey! Don't you dare threaten Renny!" Nora shouted loudly. "He didn't do anything wrong! You aren't even involved in this conversation; the only reason you even bother to argue with us is because of your sister!"
A sigh escaped Weiss.
Unfortunately, she would still have to deal with this situation right now.
She faked a loud cough.
"Okay, let's not fight among each other right now!" She said with a commanding voice. "I know this is a stressful situation for all of you—one of your teammates had run away after all—however, we can not do anything about it right now."
Team RVRB, minus Blake, as well as Yang, turned towards her.
Weiss shifted in place a little.
"Look, no matter how angry you are at the situation, it's clear that we cannot do anything about it at the moment." She said. "The last Bullhead to Vale had already finished its flight for today, so even if all of us wanted to do something, we still wouldn't be able to. I recommend we all just go to sleep for now and try to deal with the whole situation tomorrow morning."
Her words seemed to have calmed down all sides of the argument; however, one person still looked a bit unsure.
"Uhm, w-what if something happens to Blake during the night?" Ruby asked.
Weiss turned towards the younger girl.
She let out a quiet sigh.
"Blake's a huntress in training, and she's most likely staying in Vale." She explained. "I don't want to sound arrogant or anything, but there really isn't anything that should be able to seriously hurt her out there."
Ruby still looked hesitant.
"She'll be fine." Weiss insisted.
In the end, the younger girl relented.
"Alright, we will look for her tomorrow, then." Ruby said.
Weiss smiled.
"It's possible you might not have to look for her at all." Jaune suddenly added. "She might have simply run away for the night to cool her head away from the rest of her team. It's not like we know the exact reason behind her escape."
Weiss nodded her head.
It was a genuine possibility.
In all honesty, she really wished it was the case. If it was true, not only would the whole problem essentially solve itself, but she would also probably have the chance to talk to the girl afterwards.
She needed to deal with that girl's hatred towards her at some point, after all.
Ruby appeared to contemplate this possibility as well.
"I-" The younger girl paused for a second. "Yeah, it might be possible, I guess. I'm still not sure why she would run away, though. It wasn't like we were especially harsh on her during the confrontation."
Weiss only shrugged in response.
It wasn't like she could give an answer to that.
The only exposure she had to that fight was essentially a one-sided retelling of the situation. She was far too uninformed to even begin to guess why a person involved might have decided to run away.
As long as that reason wasn't going to make the girl take any particularly threatening or dangerous actions, then it didn't matter anyway.
Thankfully, she wasn't too worried about that.
It would take an incredibly dumb or desperate person to do something truly dangerous in such a short time and in this situation. There was no way such a person would have been allowed into Beacon in the first place.
Surely, Blake Belladona wasn't going to do something drastic during a single night in the city, right?
(...)
The city of Vale wasn't the safest place at night.
It was packed to the brim with gangs, violent thieves, and hidden terrorists waiting for a perfect moment to spread their message. The only danger that was absent from the city was the Grimm.
Obviously, such dangers made most people apprehensive about wandering through the city streets at night.
Blake Belladona wasn't most people, however.
In fact, she was actually in the city specifically to find one of those dangers right now.
She was looking for hidden terrorists, more specifically the White Fang members.
It wasn't because she wanted to join them—it would have been quite difficult considering that she had deserted from them once before already—nor was it necessarily to fight them.
Instead, she simply wanted to find some information that she knew they probably had.
Any and all information about any misdeeds of one Weiss Schnee was the thing she was after. She wanted to learn exactly how many crimes against basic decency that girl had committed and how she had managed to brainwash a faunus to do her bidding.
Her goals were purely altruistic.
With that information she would be able to show her teammates just how terrible their so-called friend actually was. It would help them realise just how manipulative people like the Schnee's were.
On top of that, she might be able to free the poor chameleon faunus from whatever contract that girl had to sign that forced her to pretend to be the Schnee's friend. She might even undo the brainwashing that was inflicted upon her.
Blake couldn't help but shudder a little as she thought about all the suffering that fellow faunus had to go through in order to keep up that facade.
She really pitied that girl.
The idea that Ilia might have been an actual genuine friend with Weiss didn't cross her mind at all.
No faunus would willingly be a friend with a Schnee.
Blake shook her head.
She would have the time to help that girl deal with the brainwashing later.
There was an information broker to find.
While it wasn't exactly difficult to find an information broker in a city like Vale, the information she was looking for most likely wouldn't be readily available to any random crook with connections.
The person she was looking for had to be a member of the White Fang, or an ex-member at least. Only someone from her previous organisation would have all the dirt on the Schnee family.
Unfortunately, finding a White Fang member willing to talk to her wasn't exactly easy.
If she had still been a member, she could have simply gone to any active hideout in the city and asked around for the info. It would have taken some time, but she would end up with everything she wanted to know with no issues.
With her being a known defector from the organisation, however, she would have ended up in a fight if she tried doing something like that.
That was, of course, as long as she actually found the correct location in the first place.
There was no doubt in her mind that the higher-ups in the White Fang had changed most camp and hideout locations once she deserted. She was quite high up in the command chain back then, so it would only make sense to do that
No, if she really wanted to find someone to share the info with her, she needed to look for other defectors.
Surely, those people would be sympathetic to her plight.
That was the reason why she was currently on her way to Tukson's Book Trade shop.
It was a store owned by someone she knew from her time in the White Fang.
While they weren't the closest of friends while they were in the organisation, they were still acquaintances. The older man had even trusted her with the information about his bookshop before defecting.
When she was still a member, that information was only a secret which she held from other members, but now she was going to use it for herself.
The humble bookshop soon entered her sight.
It wasn't anything impressive—the whole store was merely a single locale at the ground floor of a bigger building—and she was pretty sure that it also worked as a home for the owner on top of that.
When compared to the types of houses some of the White Fang members had back on the Menagerie, it almost looked cheap.
She carefully made her way towards it.
No matter how it looked, it was still a location belonging to a White Fang defector. She had to be careful about approaching it, not only for her own safety but also to ensure that it wouldn't be found out by others.
The only reason she came here was to ask for help; she didn't want to endanger the owner by doing so.
As she approached the door, she quickly scanned the street around her.
There was nobody in sight.
Blake nodded her head subtly.
Okay, she was clear.
She tried to open the door.
It was closed.
A frown appeared on her face before she glanced up and noticed how dark it already was.
Of course, it was already evening—when she had stormed off from Beacon, she didn't actually think about what hour it was, so she didn't realise before—it would have been weirder if the store was still open.
With the door closed, she decided to try knocking.
She knew that Tukson had lived in the same building he worked at, so she hoped the man would hear her knocking and come meet her.
It was a little rude to bother him so late, but it was an important matter.
The knocking sound quickly echoed through the store as she patiently knocked at the front door and waited for the man to notice her.
A few moments later, loud stomping echoed back as someone made their way to the door from the inside.
Blake smiled.
It looked like Tukson was still at the store.
Through the transparent door, she noticed the bigger man carefully walk towards her. He was still holding some of the books in one hand, while his other hand was free and tense in case something dangerous happened.
As she saw that, Blake couldn't help but nod approvingly.
Tukson was careful.
It would do the man well to be prepared for any potential White Fang member.
Before heading to the door, Tukson had slowly put down the books he was holding on the table. Afterwards, with a really subtle movement, he picked up something from underneath the table as well.
Whatever it was, Blake was too far away to see clearly.
She assumed it was some sort of weapon, however.
The man walked to the door.
"Is that you, Blake?" Tukson asked after opening the door, his posture still guarded. "What are you doing here? Were you sent here to get me? You know I won't return to the White Fang, no matter who they send."
Blake shook her head.
Furthermore, she also raised her hands to show that she didn't have any weapons in them. She did that while making herself appear as relaxed and harmless as she could possibly be.
She didn't come here to fight.
"I quit the White Fang, as well." She said.
Tukson narrowed his eyes at her.
"Then why are you here?" The man asked. "If you want to find some new books to read, then come back tomorrow. The store is closed already, and I'm keeping it open for you just because we used to work together."
With his words spoken, Tukson moved to close the door again.
Before he could do that, however, Blake quickly grabbed his arm and stopped him.
"I need information." She said.
Tukson raised his eyebrow.
"Then look for it somewhere else; I'm not an information broker." The man said. "I don't involve myself with illegal activities anymore; you know that, right? The most I can do is point you in the direction of some gangs, if that's what you fancy."
Blake tightened her fist a little.
It was clear that the older man didn't want to deal with her or anything related to White Fang, for that matter.
While normally she would have accepted that and moved on—after all, it was only sensible to be a little bit guarded when being a defector from a terrorist organisation—she couldn't afford to do that right now.
She really needed this info, not just for herself but also for her teammates, who were blinded by the false kindness Weiss Schnee was showing them.
"I won't get the information I want from some gangsters." She argued. "I need info from someone that had experience dealing with the Schnees before. It would be the best if they used to be a White Fang member like I was."
Tukson looked at her for a moment.
Blake shifted in place.
"Please, I have no one else to turn to." She pleaded.
Tukson sighed.
"Alright, what do you want to know?" The man asked. "I'm not promising you that I will have the answers. I will try to tell you everything I know, though. Just don't tell anyone about me, please. I don't want to deal with anything related to terrorism anymore."
A smile formed on Blake's face.
Great, she was getting somewhere with this!
"I will keep your identity a secret." She assured.
Tukson grunted.
"You better."
Blake let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Tukson." She said.
A quiet hum of acknowledgement escaped her fellow White Fang defector.
"You're welcome." Tukson said, as he relaxed a little and leaned on the door frame. "Now, let's get down to business. What info are you looking for? It better be worthy of risking my anonymity like that."
With the knowledge that she would finally be able to learn what she wanted, Blake immediately turned serious.
She needed to focus right now.
"I need you to tell me every crime and atrocity committed by Weiss Schnee." She said. "I must know all the major and minor things she did and who her victims were. The more you can tell me, the better."
Tukson blinked a couple of times in confusion.
"Weiss Schnee?" The man asked.
Blake nodded.
"Yes, the heiress to SDC." She clarified. "Surely, there's a lot of dirt on her. A person doesn't become the next prospective owner of that abhorrent corporation by being innocent and lucky."
Tukson recoiled a little and looked at her as if she had said something absurd.
Blake glared at the man.
"What did she do?" She asked in a demanding tone.
Tukson let out a tired sigh.
"I should have known that you came here to waste my time." The man murmured to himself.
Blake frowned.
"What?"
"That girl did basically nothing." Tukson said strongly. "Look, although the SDC was the main target of White Fang when I was still a member, we barely bothered to target the kids of the family. The girl is basically your age, isn't she?"
Blake scoffed.
"That's a lie." She said.
Throughout her time in the White Fang, she learnt pretty quickly that they weren't opposed to targeting children, especially ones whose families oppressed the faunus. She also learnt that those kids were rarely truly innocent either.
She shivered slightly.
The photos and videos of how the most innocent-looking people secretly tortured faunus—which she had been made to watch and study while in the organisation—haunted her to this day.
There were moments when she still cursed her ex-boyfriend and boss for showing her something brutal like that.
Although she had to admit that it was one of the few good things her previous organisation did for her in the end.
She couldn't have lived her entire life with a child's naivety, after all.
It was for the best that she had been educated like that.
"I'm telling you the truth, kid." Tukson said, insisting on a lie. "While it's true that the girl had enjoyed a lot of privileges thanks to her family's riches, she didn't do anything bad on her own. I would even go as far as to say that if she weren't a Schnee, she would have been one of our allies."
Blake gritted her teeth.
That man was taking her for a fool.
"Fine, if you don't want to tell me anything, then I won't bother you anymore." She spat out before turning her back on the man. "I will have to look for info from some active White Fang member then."
Tukson grumbled.
"I wouldn't recommend that, Blake." The man warned loudly as she started to leave. "It's dangerous."
Blake ignored the warning.
"Don't worry; I won't tell them about you." She said before leaving the store's vicinity.
While it was obvious to her that the man never had any intentions of telling her what she wanted to hear, it wasn't a reason to endanger his life. In the end, he was still mostly an innocent bystander.
She shouldn't make his life too difficult.
As she was leaving the street, Tukson shouted something to her, but she didn't bother to listen.
There were informants she needed to find.
(...)
The beds at Beacon's dormitories were nowhere near as good as the ones in the Schnee manor.
They were much smaller, less comfortable, and painfully plain. It was pretty obvious that the university didn't bother to spend a lot of time or money when acquiring them.
Despite that, however, Weiss found that sleeping in her Beacon dorm was a far more enjoyable experience than at home.
It was probably because of the distance from her parents.
She didn't have to worry about her father checking on her and finding her unsightly, nor did she have to fear her mother's drunken escapades near her room and the chaos those could cause.
There was barely a thing she had to worry about here.
The only thing that could truly interrupt her sleep was the school's timetable, and even it was far more forgiving than the lesson plan she used to have at home.
Weiss stretched in her bed.
Her life at Beacon was truly comfortable.
A loud knocking sound suddenly echoed through the room as someone tried to desperately get her team's attention.
Weiss merely shifted in her bed.
Whatever emergency it was, it could wait until she woke up later. If she tried to help while half asleep as she was right now, she would have ended up doing more harm than good, anyway.
The knocking continued.
A groan escaped her.
She almost wanted to throw her pillow at the door.
Why couldn't the person knocking get the hint and bother them later?
"Guys, help!" A voice entered their room; it was Ruby's. "It's already a late morning, and Blake hasn't shown up yet! We need your help finding her; there's an entire city to look through!"
Weiss sighed.
Right, they still had to deal with that; she completely forgot about that.
With a slow and tired movement, she pushed her blanket off her and began to leave the bed.
As she did that, she noticed that all her teammates were in the middle of doing the same. Well, all her teammates except Pyrrha that was, because the champion girl was already busy taking a shower in the bathroom.
A yawn escaped her as she left the bed and stood up.
They should really get to helping deal with the whole Blake situation, shouldn't they?
She made her way to the door.
With barely a conscious thought, she opened it.
"Alright, we'll go search Vale with you." She said tiredly with a stifled yawn. "Just give us a moment to prepare, okay? You can go ahead and head down to the city first; just keep us updated through the Scrolls."
Ruby stared at her with widened eyes.
Weiss stopped herself from chuckling a little.
The girl probably didn't expect to see her looking unkempt like that. Her pyjamas were ruffled, her hair looked as if it hadn't seen a brush in a while, and her eyes were still a little bit blurry. It wasn't an image one associated with a person like her.
To be fair to her, though, she did literally just get out of bed.
"O-Okay, I'll give you guys a minute." Ruby said with an awkward nod. "By the way, do you have any idea where Blake might be hiding? My team and I will be going to the Vale soon, but we are kind of lost on where to go beyond that."
Weiss could only blink at the question.
How was she supposed to have any idea? Her interactions with Blake were the briefest of everyone here; frankly, she barely even remembered the girl's last name, let alone know the places she might go to.
If anything, they should be the ones asking Ruby where to look first instead.
The younger girl was the one on the team with the runaway after all.
"I think you should search for White Fang gatherings!" Ilia suddenly shouted from her bed, chipping into the conversation. "That's the place I would recommend to look if you want to find her."
Weiss and Ruby turned towards the faunus girl.
"Why would she be there?" Weiss asked.
Ilia stretched a little while standing up before giving an answer.
"It's because she's most likely a White Fang member." The faunus girl paused for a second to think about something. "At the very least, she probably used to be one before coming to Beacon. I'm not sure whether the school would have accepted her if she still was a member."
Weiss nodded in response.
Ruby only stared dumbly.
"What do you mean, Blake's a White Fang member?!" The younger girl asked. "Aren't only faunus allowed to join them? How would they even let her in? She's not a faunus herself, is she?"
Ilia and Weiss turned towards the RVRB's team leader.
"She's a faunus, though. She's covering her ears with that ribbon of hers, but it's pretty easy to see that there are some sort of ears underneath it. Also, her last name's the same as the previous leader of White Fang." Ilia said. "Di-Did you not know about that?"
Ruby looked to the side, avoiding eye contact.
"N-No, I didn't."
Weiss and Ilia could only stare at the younger girl in disbelief.
Did that girl pay any attention to her team members at all?
It wasn't like that was a particularly well-hidden secret, either. Weiss was pretty sure that the black-haired girl wouldn't have managed to fool anyone with her disguise for more than a couple of months, no matter how oblivious they were.
Ruby suddenly shook her head very violently.
"It doesn't matter right now!" The younger girl said. "I'll have a conversation with her about this after we find her; for now I'll go look for her. You four come help us as soon as you can, okay?"
Weiss nodded.
"Don't worry; you won't have to wait for us for long."
Ruby nodded her head with a smile before turning to the side and rapidly heading towards Beacon's exit.
Weiss slowly shook her head.
It looked like she had her day already planned for today.
And cut!
Blake's first attempt at finding dirt on Weiss ended up in failure and now she's looking for other haters of the girl. Surely, it won't have any unintended and terrible consequences for her, will it?
I might have written Blake a little bit too head strong and indoctrinated here, but honestly I believe she really should have been a little like that. She essentially was a member of a radical terrorist group. She was also a person with apparent political strength there, as a daughter of the Menagerie Chieftain. You aren't placed in such position without the organisation doing their best to convert you to their beliefs at the same time.
See how often people have to go through entire therapies and have professional help to get rid of the influence different cults or even simply radical political movement had on them.
Anyways, I hope you liked it.
That's it for now, see ya!
