Demonic Crisis Ch 2: Goddess Transmigration
Tsukauchi arrived at his police station a few days after the UA faculty had its meeting about the new dorms. He entered his office and reviewed some files on recently active villains and the crimes they had perpetrated on his beat. His smartphone rang, but the number was garbled, which he thought strange. Despite that, he answered. "Hello?" he answered.
"Hello, Detective Tsukauchi," replied the caller, who had his voice garbled by a voice modulator. "You won't know who I am, but recent activities of the League of Villains have me concerned. Is it true that certain members such as Shigaraki have not been apprehended yet?"
"That's correct. Shigaraki and a few other League members still remain at large," replied Tsukauchi.
"In that case, I happen to know where you may find them. The League is laying low at an abandoned warehouse on Paulownia Street near the Rose Street intersection in the industrial area of Western Mustafar," reported the mysterious caller. "I'm taking a grave personal risk to pass this information to you. Please be careful with it."
"I will. I will have my men scope out the location. Thank you for calling," said Tsukauchi.
Some time later, Shigaraki and the remaining League members save Himiko and Kurogiri found themselves at the abandoned warehouse on Paulownia Street. A man in sunglasses and a black hoodie entered the room, causing the League members to perk up in alarm. Once they recognized the man as Dabi, they let out a sigh of relief. "Phew! You gotta warn us when you come in like that! The cops are everywhere!" said the reptilian Spinner.
"We're having MacBurger tonight. I got combos with fries and drinks for all of us," said Dabi, holding up three paper bags filled with food.
As the League ate their meal together, they did not notice that a group of police cars had set up a perimeter around the abandoned warehouse. Various pro heroes from around the city such as All Might and Gran Torino stationed themselves among the officers. The police shined a spotlight around the windows of the building, something which prompted Spinner to hide around the frame and look out. He noticed the flashing lights of the squad cars and several figures standing on the street, making silhouettes in the darkness of night.
"It's the cops!" cried Spinner.
"This is the police! You're surrounded. Come out and surrender peacefully!" demanded Tsukauchi over a microphone near his car on the street.
"What do we do?" asked Spinner, beginning to fret.
"We split up and make a run for it!" replied Shigaraki.
Dabi immediately blasted through the window with fire while the others made an escape through other sides of the warehouse. He bolted across the grounds, where the police directed their spotlights onto him. Dabi responded by shooting fire, incinerating the lights and returning the area to darkness. At that moment, Gran Torino charged in and rammed Dabi in the chin. The high-speed impact dazed the villain, allowing Gran Torino time to land and launch a follow-up ramming which put Dabi on the ground.
"Dabi is unconscious," reported Gran Torino into his radio.
In the rear of the building, Spinner and Compress, a man in a balaclava, orange shirt, and black vest, fled out the door. The police noticed them and immediately shined a spotlight on them. Compress quickly hurled a marble at one of the cars, causing it to release a rock and flip the vehicle. Similarly, Compress quickly released another rock to create cover against the police when they started firing at the two. Endeavour crested the rock and rained fire upon the two villains. They were forced out in the open, where the police quickly felled them with rubber bullets.
"Spinner and Compress are secure," reported Endeavour.
The last remaining members, Shigaraki and the transsexual Magne, had fled out of a side door. The police were there too and shined a spotlight on them. Magne used her giant, bar-like magnet to snatch the weapons of the police. Unknown to her, Edgeshot had slipped in close as a thread, then pierced her torso and rendered her unconscious. Nearby, All Might came by and punched Shigaraki from the left, scoring a single blow which rendered him unconscious.
"Shigaraki has been incapacitated," reported All Might.
"So has Magne," reported Edgeshot.
With the League of Villains remnants defeated, they were locked in Quirk-inhibiting shackles and taken to prison in armoured trucks. News of the League's capture spread rapidly throughout Japan, bringing the case of the villain attacks on UA High to a close. Parents and pro heroes alike breathed a sigh a relief, while UA had redeemed itself in the public eye after finally apprehending such dangerous criminals. It was all thanks to a vital tip from a mysterious caller, who would remain anonymous and unknown to the public.

At lunch during the next school day, the students started to discuss the capture of the remaining League members over sushi. "It's about time! Those bad guys ruined our camping trip and our class at the USJ!" said Tetsu.
"Yeah, they did. Now that the League has been caught, has the faculty reconsidered the dorms?" asked Izuku.
"Word is, they'll still be built, but they'll be strictly optional, so the construction will be scaled back and fewer dorms will be built. They'll mostly be for students attending UA from abroad or out of town," replied Itsuka.
"That's good. I'm not going out and doing crooked stuff. I don't like being treated like I'm a crook when I've done nothing wrong," said Tetsu.
Itsuka received a message from her phone and saw that it was Ibara who had sent it. "Oh! Ibara sent me some pictures from Nagasaki!" announced Itsuka.
During the dispute about the dorms, Ibara Shiozaki had arrived at Nagasaki in western Japan, the centre of Christianity for the nation. Her father drove her to their new home a short way from the city core. It was a simple, small, two story home with three bedrooms. It had enough room to hold all four members of the Shiozaki family from Ibara herself to her brother, even if it was a bit cramped as Japanese houses tended to be. The Shiozaki family entered their new abode and started to unpack their belongings.
A bit later, Ibara's father drove her to the Golden Sun Dojo, her choice for learning the Luminance and getting an education in heroics. She had the forms in hand and already filled out, ready to request the transfer of her UA credits to the Golden Sun Dojo. The Golden Sun Dojo itself looked much like a regular high school, but had extra gyms for Luminance practice. Golden Sun also taught adult students, when the high school students had departed for the night.
When Ibara entered the office, she found a toned man with black hair talking with the secretary. The man was dressed in a karate uniform and slippers. The woman paused their conversation to address Ibara. "Hello, I'm here to hand in my application for the Golden Sun Dojo," said Ibara.
"Sure, let me have a look," replied the secretary. She browsed the forms to ensure there was no missing information. "Oh, so you came from UA!"
"Yeah. Due to the command from God, we came here to start life anew," replied Ibara.
"Okay. Everything seems in order. I'll file it and have the principal sign it," said the secretary.
"Oh, you're going to be a new student here? It's great to meet you, Shiozaki. I'm Sensei Ken Kuribayashi, but most people call me 'Sensei K.' I teach the Luminance here, so you'll be seeing a lot of me," said the man in the karate uniform.
"It's nice to meet you, sir. I hope to have an enlightening time learning from you," said Ibara.
From that point on, Ibara practised the Luminance under Sensei K with other students. During one lesson, she stood in a line with other students, drilling punches repeatedly. For another, the students sat in meditation, calming themselves to allow the Luminance to radiate around their bodies as an aura of gold. In yet another, Ibara cupped her hands together, then released a thin beam of light towards a board held by a male sparring partner. The beam seared a black mark through the board about the size of a quarter.
During this time, Ibara's vine-like hair had fallen out, leaving her bald. A new head of green hair had started to grow in its place. She had taken a picture of herself during this time and sent it to her friends to show them what learning the Luminance was doing to her Quirk. At UA, Ibara and Tetsu received the message on their phones. "Oh! Shiozaki's gone bald!" remarked Tetsu with a chuckle. "She's a monk now!"
"Yeah! That's quite a new look for her," remarked Itsuka.

As night fell on Mustafar, Plant Zombie went on patrol with Queen across the city. They moved through the alleys and roofs of the buildings on the lookout for rogue demons and Atma Avatars causing trouble for the civilians of Mustafar. The night was quiet and the crescent moon was out, shining its light upon the city as the night life of bars and clubs went into high gear. For the first hour of their patrol, they had not seen any form of demonic activity that would warrant intervention.
During their second hour, they came upon a Spade Merc Pixie who was patrolling the streets and had stopped to rest at a neighbouring roof. Queen and Plant Zombie approached their comrade. "Hey, have you seen anything unusual happen tonight?" asked Queen.
"No, sorry. It's been pretty quiet in my area," replied the Pixie.
"Let's hope it stays that way," said Plant Zombie.
Plant Zombie and Queen continued on their way and eventually smelled smoke in the air. "A fire? It's coming from the south," said Queen.
The duo headed in that direction and saw the hero Bamboono, known to Plant Zombie as his old acquaintance Takeshita, near a fire in a fenced off dirt lot behind a group of houses. A starfish-like demon with a single eye, a Decarabia, stood across from him. It was clear from their stances that they were in mortal conflict with each other. The Decarabia hurled fireballs at Bamboono, who quickly dove to the right to evade getting burnt by them.
"We have to help him!" said Plant Zombie.
"Be careful. That thing uses fire. You aren't good with that," said Queen.
Bamboono hurled bamboo darts at the Decarabia, but they passed through the supernatural being like it was a ghost. The Decarabia hurled more fireballs back at the pro hero, which struck the ground and triggered an explosion. Bamboono got hurled to the ground with burns all over his body. At that moment, Plant Zombie had fired the peashooter. The peas pelted the Decarabia painfully and drew its attention to him and Queen on the roof. Angered, the demon of Chaos turned its fire upon them, forcing them to scatter to avoid harm.
Queen called the Kingdom of Hearts to her and released a quartet of card soldiers into the field. They dropped to ground level and lunged at the Decarabia with spears. The starfish demon eluded their attacks, then incinerated one of them with a heat ray. Queen supported by having the Kingdom fire the cannons mounted on its walls. The Decarabia got staggered from the first hit, then knocked down by the next. As soon as it got up, it sent fireballs at her, which she evaded by going behind a wall.
Plant Zombie pelted the demon with more peashooter fire, then sprayed a cloud of golden pollen at the creature. When it foolishly decided to counter with fire, the Decarabia ignited the pollen cloud in a violent explosion which set the demon ablaze. The Decarabia flailed about in agony and terror, but was not able to put out the fires before it expired.
Bamboono saw Plant Zombie and Queen on the roofs of the homes. "You? Who are you?" he asked of them, but his saviours quickly leapt out of the area and did not respond.
From a rooftop a distance away, Plant Zombie and Queen watched as the authorities arrived and extinguished the fires from the Decarabia attack. "That was Takeshita again," remarked Plant Zombie.
"So that's him... He was at the fight with the Mustafar Lords, wasn't he?" asked Queen.
"Aye. He forgot about me long ago, but I still remember him," replied Plant Zombie.
"Are you thinking of old times?" asked Queen.
"Yeah. Our lives took such different paths since then. Still, I'm glad I could see him again, and that I could be of help to him for once," said Plant Zombie. "Let's go."
As the duo left the area, Plant Zombie reminisced about high school. His class was in a gym with a simulated plastic cliff face, the same kind recreational climbers used for the sport of mountain climbing. Numerous dummies were strewn about the ground to simulate people who had fallen off the cliff and had hurt themselves. "For this exercise, we are going to evacuate a person with a winch and stretcher. Make sure he is properly secured before you remove him from the area and do so slowly and gradually," said the gym teacher.
Danjuro set up the winch on the top of the artificial cliff, ready to raise up the stretcher. Below, a female classmate had placed one of the dummies on the stretcher and signalled to a male student on lookout on the edge of the cliff. The lookout passed along the signal, which prompted Danjuro to quickly turn the handle of the winch. The stretcher was going up so fast that it started to wobble and eventually bumped the dummy's head into the side of the cliff.
"Whoa! Slow down Tobita! You're going too fast!" cried the coach. He looked over to another group's effort and saw the dummy go up slowly, but at a consistent pace which moved him straight up. "Good work Takeshita. That's how you do it, slow and steady," praised the coach.

After returning to the Foundation Domain from their patrol, the duo reported to Abel about the incident with the Decarabia. Abel nodded. "I see. It's good that you removed it," said Abel.
"Has anything interesting happened while we were gone?" asked Manami.
"Yes. We detected the signature of an angel in a large mansion belonging to a yakuza group known as the Shie Hassaikai. What that angel is doing there, we can only speculate, but that is where you come in. Manami, hack into their computers and find out what is so important about them," replied Abel.
"Okay. I'll get to work immediately," said Manami.
Plant Zombie and Queen returned to the field, teleporting into an area with a view of the Shie Hassaikai headquarters. It was a large, classical Japanese mansion enclosed on all sides by walls. The only entrance was a gate on the south side. Manami set to work, typing away at her laptop to penetrate the Shie Hassaikai's computer network and access vital files. She discovered emails which revealed that the Shie Hassaikai were going to deliver a new batch of "Quirk-Killer" drug to some of their clients. Somehow, the Shie Hassaikai had found a way of making such a thing.
If they had the means to do so, that meant they had a lab somewhere pumping out Quirk-Killer, possibly in their headquarters. Queen probed deeper into the network and found files from the scientists who were developing Quirk-Killer. The lab was indeed in their headquarters as suspected. The main ingredient of the formula was the blood of Eri Kisaragi, the granddaughter of former Shie Hassaikai boss Yukio Yamaguchi. With Yamaguchi in a coma, Eri fell into the hands of the current boss, Kai Chisaki.
Chisaki also went by his Quirk's name, "Overhaul," which allowed him to assemble and disassemble matter with a touch. He used this Quirk on his adopted daughter to manufacture an endless supply of her blood as feedstock for Quirk-Killer. Only Eri's blood worked, since she had the Quirk of "Rewind," which allowed her to reverse time on a person or other living being she came into contact with. That included a person's Quirk, rewinding it to a time when they did not have it. Thus, Quirk-Killer was just her Quirk working to Rewind away the Quirks of its victims.
"Oh my God!" remarked Queen, her mouth agape at the dark secrets she had discovered about the Shie Hassaikai.
"This is an atrocity!" remarked Plant Zombie.
"It's worse. Chisaki had been distributing this drug to various criminals for testing. So far, Quirk-Killer only works on a temporary basis, but he has created a new batch which takes out a Quirk permanently. It's been loaded into a set of five bullets," reported Queen.
"If he's this successful already, his next step will be mass production," said Plant Zombie.
The duo reported these findings to Abel as they uploaded copies of the information to Atsuro's laptop. "The angel in the Shie Hassaikai, the Luminance at Nagasaki... Now, I understand. The angels intend to go to war against Quirks. They hope to eradicate Quirks and replace them with the Luminance as their solution to the Singularity. They'll want Quirk-Killer to achieve that goal," replied Abel through telepathy.
"What is the Quirk Singularity?" asked Plant Zombie.
"From what I read of it, a scientist named Kyudai Garaki had proposed that as Quirks passed down through the generations, they combine and grow more powerful and complex. One day, Quirks would become too powerful and complicated to control, and that would doom humanity," replied Queen.
"Yes. We know of Dr. Garaki. We dealt with him during the All For One incident at Kamino," said Abel.
"Why would the angels be so concerned about that?" asked Plant Zombie.
"Beyond guaranteeing humanity's survival, they truly believe that's what's best. Quirks are powers which lead humanity away from God. They are a major source of chaos from people misusing them and the severe inequalities they create between people. To them, it would be better if they didn't exist," replied Abel.
"I see. Is that why they're having people give up Quirks to train in the Luminance?" asked Plant Zombie.
"Yeah. Anyone can learn the Luminance and use it against villains and demons. Everyone has access to the same power, so they're equal," replied Abel.
"You sometimes call the demons the Chaos faction. Does that mean they have the opposite view?" asked Queen.
"Yes. They want people to be free to do whatever they want, if they have the strength and capability to do so, whether from a Quirk, Atma, the right knowledge, whatever. Their problem is a 'might makes right' mentality just leads to people doing whatever they want without regard for others," replied Abel.
"How are they going to solve the Quirk Singularity?" asked Queen.
"They'll offer alternative power systems like Atma, but each of these new systems will have problems and issues of their own. All these contradictory systems in play at the same time will create a mess," replied Abel.
"Neither side sound very appealing. Both are too extreme," remarked Plant Zombie. "Is there another way?"
"There should be, but that will have to be decided by Hero Society itself, since it has the biggest stake in the outcome," replied Abel.
"We don't have Quirks anymore, so it won't affect us. We already use Atma or some other power, so we're okay on that front," noted Queen.
"That's right," replied Abel.
"Still, can't we just pick a solution and give it to them?" asked Plant Zombie.
"Sure, but we can't force Hero Society to adopt it. That is ultimately Hero Society's call. Allowing humanity to make calls like these is the ideal of 'Neutrality.' We at the Foundation can help, but we should allow Hero Society to have sovereignty over its future," said Abel. "Anyway, we'll prepare for an assault on that compound. If we rescue Eri and shut down their production of Quirk-Killer, that will ruin the angels' plans. Gather as much information as you can about the Shie Hassaikai. We're moving once we finalize our plans."
"Right!" said Plant Zombie and Queen.
Queen and Plant Zombie continued to probe the Shie Hassaikai network and found a map of the compound, including the layout of the underground areas. The Japanese mansion on the ground level was primarily a front to conceal an underground base. This hidden area had a lab for manufacturing Quirk-Killer and a child's bedroom where they kept Eri. It was much larger than the mansion's limits suggested, running under the entire block. No doubt Chisaki had built the structure using his Quirk to avoid drawing suspicion to its presence.
))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
The next night, the Spade Mercs entered a house with signs indicating that it was for sale. It was a block over from the Shie Hassaikai mansion. When they entered the basement, they found Myrmecoleon tunnelling through the floor towards the underground of the Shie Hassaikai compound. As the tunnelling continued, they discovered a rectangular aluminum shaft. This was part of the compound's ventilation system, which ran through the entire underground. Abel created a vine from his index finger, then had it impale the vent and released a white pollen which the vents carried throughout the base.
Inside, the Shie Hassaikai, gangsters who dressed in black with beaked gas masks, were reviewing the take from various businesses. As the pollen spread everywhere, the gangsters came into contact with it and felt their eyelids become heavy with fatigue. It was only moments before they nodded off completely, fast asleep and helpless against their attackers. However, some of the thugs managed to avoid touching the pollen and fled out of the mansion's front door.
Plant Zombie pelted them with the peashooter rounds until they were knocked out. "The courtyard is clear. You may enter when ready," reported Plant Zombie over the radio.
With the Shie Hassaikai incapacitated, Foundation demons and agents stormed the compound with the Spade Mercs entering from below and the rest from the mansion above. Underground, the Spade Mercs ran into a group of four yakuza who had avoided the pollen. Yuzu telekinetically choked all four of them, lifting them off the ground. The gangsters gasped for air as they clutched their throats in a vain attempt to loosen them. Atsuro arced electricity which wracked the four with convulsions.
Yuzu released them and they all fell in heaps on the ground. "That takes care of this group. I'm going to find Eri," stated Yuzu over the telepathic link.
"Okay. Good luck!" said Atsuro.
The two Spade Mercs split up with Yuzu pushing deeper into the underground base to find the bedroom of Eri. Inside, Yuzu had been greeted by pictures of balloons and teddy bears drawn in pastel colours on the sky blue wallpaper. Eri slept soundly in bed, unaware that she was about to be rescued. She was a girl seven years of age with shoulder-length grey hair and a single horn protruding from the right side of her forehead. Since it was her bedtime, she was clad in frilly pink pyjamas. Yuzu took the girl into her arms and carried her out.
Atsuro continued on and reunited with Midori at the lab where the Shie Hassaikai developed Quirk-Killer. It had beakers, distilling equipment, and centrifuges on the far wall near various chemicals. Its shelves had been filled with spare beakers, test tubes, and miscellaneous equipment. At a small, alcove-like room was a seat with leather restraints for holding an unwilling patient. It had a tray with scissors and spare beakers while a monitoring computer stood beside it. This was no doubt where they extracted Eri's blood and it even smelled the part.
Atsuro and Midori confiscated all of the loose memos, documents, and storage media they could find. "Queen, are you done copying the files?" asked Atsuro.
"Yep. Fire away!" replied Queen.
Midori ignited the entire lab, destroying everything in it from the equipment to the benches and cupboards. Nothing survived and all that remained of the room were walls charred black and piles of metallic goo. The Spade Mercs gathered in the heart of the underground, with Abel the last to arrive. A group of Trolls wheeled out the Shie Hassaikai's comatose boss, Yukio Yamaguchi, who was still bedridden and attached to an IV drip stand. Abel followed them to the rendezvous, where the entire group teleported back to the Domain.
Both the old boss and Eri were taken to Caladrius' infirmary, where they would receive proper medical care from the demon until they recovered. A few hours later, Eri awoke in the infirmary, realizing that she was not in her own room, nor in her own bed, but somewhere unknown. "Where am I?" she asked in shock, still groggy with blurred vision from being put to sleep by Abel's pollen.
Caladrius entered the room in his true form of a bird. "You are in the Atma Foundation's Domain. We rescued you from the clutches of the Shie Hassaikai," replied Caladrius.
"You're a birdie, and you can talk? W... What are you?" asked Eri upon seeing and hearing the strange bird talk to her.
"I'm Caladrius. I'll be your doctor," replied Caladrius.
A Pixie nurse came to talk to Caladrius. "Doctor, Yukio Yamaguchi is not waking up. It seems he had been drugged by the Shie Hassaikai to keep him in a coma," reported the Pixie.
"How cute! A little fairy!" remarked Eri as she smiled at the sight.
"Thanks for the report. Please send word to Lord Abel that Eri Kisaragi is awake," said Caladrius.
"Will do, doctor!" replied the Pixie.
Moments later, Abel had arrived in Eri's room at the infirmary to check on her condition. "Hello Eri, how are you feeling?" asked Abel.
"I'm still sleepy," she replied, before giving out a big yawn.
"No surprise. We slipped sleeping gas into the vents of the place you were at. You're still feeling some of its effects," said Abel.
"Who are you? Where am I?" asked Eri.
"I'm Abel, better known as the Immortal Stranger. I'm the boss of the Atma Foundation. We help people who suffer from the Atma virus. We're also a group of demon hunters. Some bad people want your blood as an ingredient to make a Quirk-destroying drug. We don't want them to have you, so we brought you here for safety," replied Abel.
"Kai was doing that to me. Did you kill him?" asked Eri.
"No, actually. Right now, the police should be responding to a fire at his home. They'll no doubt arrest him since he's wanted for a whole bunch of crimes, the least of which are the things he did to you," replied Abel.
"What's going to happen to me now?" asked Eri.
"We're going to keep you here, away from the Shie Hassaikai. Your Quirk is very dangerous. I want to remove it to make sure no one else will come after you for its power. Is it okay if I do so?" asked Abel.
"It's fine. All my Quirk has done is give me trouble. It made my daddy disappear and my mommy kick me out. I have no one left except grandpa," replied Eri.
Abel could not help but be moved at Eri's story about being abandoned. "Oh, you poor thing! I'll remove that Quirk right away. In exchange, I can give you a new power, one that helps people instead of hurting them. Would you like that?" asked Abel.
"Yeah!" replied Eri with a bright smile.
"Okay, but not yet. I want to give you time to recover. Then I'll let you have your new power," replied Abel.
After allowing a day for Eri to recover, Abel returned to her side. He placed his hand on Eri's forehead, which caused an aura of gold to surround Eri. She felt a tingling sensation all over her body. Although the whole event lasted for just a minute, she felt something had changed greatly inside of her. It was a feeling of wholesomeness, a golden warmth that came from within and radiated outward from her very core.
Her horn broke off and fell from her head, which Abel collected and gave to Eri as a souvenir. "Did I get a new Quirk?" asked Eri upon feeling the warmth die down and seeing her broken horn in her hand.
"It's not a Quirk, but it is a new power. Reach deep inside and call it out," said Abel
When she called her new power, it manifested as the spirit of a young blonde woman dressed in saintly white robes. This spirit, or goddess, radiated a sense of tenderness and wholesomeness about her. "Is that my new power?" asked Eri, in awe of the spirit which hovered over her bed.
"Yes. That is your Standing Persona, 'Goddess Transmigration.' It gives you great holy power which can both heal and harm, among other abilities. From now on, we'll be training you on how to use it. If you want, we can also train you to be a demon hunter, someone who fights demons to protect people. Are you interested?" asked Abel.
"I'm not sure if I want to be a demon hunter yet. I just want to learn how to use my new power," replied Eri.
"Okay, fair enough. You're still too little to become a full-fledged demon hunter. We'll still teach you how to master Goddess Transmigration," said Abel.
After providing more time for Eri to rest and recover from her ordeal at the hands of the Shie Hassaikai, Eri reported to her first training session at the colosseum magic range. Abel presented her with a group of ripped dummies lying on beds. He had Eri heal them by drawing upon the warmth and light within, then releasing it upon the dummy as a golden radiance. Miraculously, the rips on the dummy started to mend, restoring them as though she were healing a live person.
When presented with a new dummy, she noticed that this one looked off-colour, having a violet tint to its complexion. Via Goddess Transmigration, Eri could detect that there was something malignant within the dummy that was causing issues. "There's something making this dummy sick. It's poison!" reported Eri.
"Okay. Can you cleanse the poison?" asked Abel.
"Okay, here goes!" said Eri.
She set to healing the dummy, focusing on the toxins which were killing the dummy from within. Slowly but surely, Eri broke down and purged the toxins from the dummy. As the poison vanished, the dummy gradually lost its off-colour, violet complexion, and returned to a normal brown. "Good!" remarked Abel.
"Yay!" cheered Eri, smiling and thrusting her tiny fists into the air.
"You're a natural at this. Pretty soon, we'll be calling you Dr. Eri," said Abel.
"That sounds nice. Dr. Eri!" repeated Eri with a smile.
"I think we should move ahead and have you learn an offensive technique. Your first one will be shooting beams of holy light. Simply focus holy power at your finger, then point and push it forward and outward," said Abel. "Use these new dummies for that."
Once he created a set of new target dummies, Eri stood across from one and did as Abel instructed. The holy power gathered into a small bead at the tip of her index finger, then she released it all at once. It travelled as a beam to the dummy, burning a hole through its chest and leaving a black mark where it entered. "I did it!" said Eri with elation.
She continued target practice, including against a dummy which slid left and right. It was difficult to hit it accurately, but she learned to lead her shots, shooting at where the dummy would move to instead of where it came from. "Good work. Now, this has to be said, but this ability can seriously hurt someone. There will be no horseplay, no fooling around with this ability. Am I understood?" asked Abel.
"Yes. This is used to fight bad guys, not to hurt people," replied Eri.
Abel smiled. "Good girl! You've taken your first steps into a whole new world. When the others see you, they'll be amazed at what you can do!" said Abel.
END OF CHAPTER
