Chapter 5.
Samus had just finished showering, suited up, and was preparing for the big day when she thought, It's time for me to go look for that sleepyhead. She was about to head out when she heard a knock at her door. Opening it, she was surprised to see Link standing there, already dressed in his blue tunic.
"Hello, are you ready? Let's go have breakfast," Link said casually.
"Whoa, you woke up early today, it seems," Samus replied, raising an eyebrow.
Link chuckled. "I try to be punctual when there are important events," he said, thinking back to his days at the knight academy and the many scoldings he'd received for sleeping in too much.
Samus laughed. "Hahaha, alright, well, let's go."
The two made their way to the dining hall and sat down to eat, chatting comfortably over breakfast. Link found himself curious and asked, "How old are you?"
Samus smirked and decided to play along. "Guess," she said. "How old do you think I am?"
"27 or 28," Link answered hesitantly.
"You really think I'm that old?" Samus said, laughing softly.
"I don't know, just tell me, don't be mean," Link replied, a bit embarrassed.
"Okay, I'm 26," Samus said seriously.
"How old are you?" she asked.
"I'm 124 years old," Link said casually, taking a bite of his bread.
Samus blinked, initially thinking he was joking. But with Link's magical background, it wasn't completely out of the question. Still, the number stunned her.
"You're over 100 years old, really? But you look like you're in your 20s," Samus said, clearly intrigued.
"Well, technically, I'm 24, mentally and physically. I spent the other 100 years asleep," Link explained, chuckling.
Samus laughed, shaking her head. "And here I thought 10 hours was a lot! You've definitely broken the record."
"It's a long story," Link said, smiling as he scratched the back of his head.
"I have to hear that story," Samus said with wide eyes, genuinely fascinated.
Link felt a sense of warmth, happy that Samus seemed so eager to learn more about him.
They continued eating and talking until a familiar voice interrupted them.
"Wow, it looks like the blue team is fueling up nicely for the fight," said Zelda with a playful smile.
"Zelda..." both Link and Samus said in unison, looking up at her.
"What a nice connection you two have," Zelda teased. "You dress in the same color, talk at the same time, and even make the same gestures. You're a good team."
Link and Samus exchanged glances before lowering their heads slightly, both trying to hide the blush creeping onto their faces, something Zelda noticed immediately.
"Even your bodies react the same. You're in perfect harmony and coordination," she added with a smirk.
Both remained quiet, unsure how to respond, until Zelda switched her tone to a more serious one. "Anyway, I've come to wish you both good luck in your match."
"Thank you, Zelda," they both said again, perfectly synchronized.
Zelda left with a wide smile, clearly pleased with herself.
Samus and Link sat in an awkward silence for a moment, until Samus finally spoke up, breaking the tension. "I see Zelda is quite the happy and playful one."
"Yeah," Link said, chuckling nervously. "The Zelda from my time didn't make so many jokes."
"That's nice. Zelda has a really positive aura," Samus said, smiling as the tension eased.
With the awkward moment behind them, they finished their meal and left the dining area, heading towards the stadium where their match awaited. The atmosphere between them had lightened, though there was still an undeniable sense of anticipation in the air as they prepared for the upcoming battle.
The stadium was packed with excited spectators, the buzz of anticipation growing as the countdown to the fight began. The fighters were preparing backstage, each in their respective dressing rooms.
Link had just finished changing into a darker gray tunic. He adjusted his belt and called out to his teammate, "Okay, Samus, I'm ready! How about you?"
From the other side of the room, Samus emerged in a sleek gray suit that accentuated her agile frame. Link's eyes widened—he hadn't expected her to look that stunning.
"It looks good on me, what do you think?" Samus asked, sounding a bit unsure if the color suited her.
"You... you look great," Link stammered, trying to suppress the blush creeping onto his cheeks.
Samus smiled, feeling more confident after Link's compliment. "I like your suit too. It's a little darker than usual."
"Thanks," Link replied with a nod, the slight awkwardness dissipating as they both mentally shifted into battle mode. Now fully dressed and prepared, they were ready to step into the arena.
Meanwhile, in another room, Pit was already geared up in his usual outfit, preferring to stick with what was comfortable. He tugged at his toga when he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"Hey, angel, what do you think of my outfit?" Bayonetta purred, her tone both threatening and seductive.
Pit turned around, eyes widening at the sight of her in a striking white ensemble, as she posed with her signature guns.
"What do you think?" Bayonetta asked, striking another pose, clearly enjoying teasing him.
"Uh... it's fine," Pit mumbled, his nerves evident.
Bayonetta laughed, sensing his discomfort. "You're a little off your game today, aren't you, little angel?"
"I'm just a little nervous about the fight," Pit admitted, his wings twitching slightly.
Bayonetta rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh please, you're worrying over nothing. We're just facing a magical elf and a futuristic woman who, according to you, is better than me," she added with a smirk.
"You're still on about that?" Pit asked, sighing.
"Of course," Bayonetta responded, her voice low as she playfully ran one of her guns across her lips. "You still need to be punished for that little comment."
Pit grimaced at the gesture, his expression filled with discomfort.
Bayonetta leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a whisper as she spoke in his ear. "Hey, little angel. If we lose this fight, you're going to pay for it... dearly."
Pit swallowed hard, terror filling his eyes as Bayonetta's soft yet sinister tone lingered in his thoughts. All he could hope for now was that the battle would be over quickly—whatever the outcome.
The atmosphere in the stadium electrified as the presenter's voice echoed throughout, announcing the combatants with great enthusiasm. The crowd roared, eager to see the intense battle between these iconic fighters.
"On one side, we have the Hyrule champion and the Galactic Bounty Hunter, Link and Samus!" the presenter called out, with cheers booming through the stands.
"And on the other side, the Angelic Warrior and the Witch of Umbra, Pit and Bayonetta!" The crowd erupted once again.
The large arena rumbled as the fighters were teleported to different areas across the battlefield, each designed to challenge their unique skills. One area was a rocky cliffside with high elevations, another filled with ancient ruins, while a central area boasted a wide-open platform perfect for head-on combat.
"READY!" the voice boomed across the arena, and tension surged through the fighters as they prepared for the battle ahead. Link tightened his grip on his sword, and Samus adjusted her arm cannon, scanning the area.
On the opposite side, Pit flexed his wings, drawing his dual blades, while Bayonetta twirled her guns with a wicked smile, already strategizing her next moves.
"START!"
The voice echoed like a thunderclap, and in an instant, all four fighters burst into action. Link and Samus moved together, showing the synergy they had built over their training. Pit took to the sky with quick, darting movements while Bayonetta swiftly dashed, her long legs covering the ground effortlessly as she aimed her guns toward Samus.
The battle had begun.
Bayonetta wasted no time, unleashing a flurry of bullets from her pistols, aimed directly at Samus. Samus, with her exceptional reflexes, rolled to the side, evading the bullets in a blur of movement. She immediately raised her arm cannon and fired a charged shot back at Bayonetta, but the witch spun out of the way with ease, her fluid movements almost mocking Samus' precision.
Meanwhile, Pit descended swiftly from above, his twin blades glowing as he swung at Link. Link raised his Hylian Shield, blocking Pit's attacks with expert timing. Sparks flew as steel met steel, and Link quickly countered with a powerful spin attack, forcing Pit to leap back to avoid being hit.
"You're quick, Link," Pit said with a smirk, readying himself for another assault.
Link didn't respond, but his eyes were locked on Pit, calculating his next move. Samus, in the meantime, exchanged rapid fire with Bayonetta, the two weaving around the arena, each trying to outmaneuver the other.
Samus had her sights set on Bayonetta, but she also kept an eye on Link, knowing that their teamwork would be key to victory. As she dashed forward to engage Bayonetta at close range, Link lunged toward Pit, bringing his sword down in a fierce strike. The battlefield was alive with the sounds of clashing weapons and whizzing projectiles as the intense fight continued to unfold.
Samus, despite the limitations of her robotic suit, managed to land a powerful punch that sent Bayonetta staggering backward. Seizing the opportunity, she quickly deployed her laser hook, expertly ensnaring Bayonetta and yanking her off balance. With a swift motion, Samus hurled Bayonetta toward the edge of the arena. For a moment, it seemed like Bayonetta might be out, but the witch gracefully flipped in mid-air, using her Umbra Witch powers to glide back into the fray. As she landed, Bayonetta retaliated with a hard kick to Samus, sending her stumbling back.
"This is just beginning," Bayonetta taunted, her laughter echoing as she readied her next move.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the arena, Link and Pit's sword battle raged on. Their blades clashed with such force that the sound of metal striking metal echoed throughout the stadium. Link's superior experience in combat was showing, as he deftly parried and countered Pit's attacks, pushing the angel back with each exchange.
Frustrated but determined, Pit soared into the air again, putting some distance between himself and Link. From above, he unleashed a volley of arrows, aiming to catch Link off guard. Link, however, was quick on his feet, dodging the arrows with graceful rolls. Not one to be outdone, he counterattacked by drawing his own bow, firing back with precision.
Arrows streaked across the battlefield, clashing mid-air as the two warriors engaged in a deadly projectile duel. Both sides were determined, neither willing to give an inch as the battle intensified.
The battle escalated as Pit maintained his aerial advantage, keeping a safe distance from Link while scouting for opportunities. A bomb suddenly materialized on the battlefield, one of the arena's random elements. Spotting it, Pit immediately saw his chance. He swooped down, grabbed the bomb, and ascended once again, preparing to launch it at Link.
Link quickly analyzed the situation, formulating a counter-strategy in seconds. As Pit hurled the bomb toward him, Link drew one of his own bombs, calculating the trajectory. With perfect timing, he flung his bomb to intercept Pit's, causing an explosion mid-air. The resulting cloud of smoke engulfed the area, obscuring Pit's vision.
"Damn!" Pit muttered, frustrated as the smoke robbed him of his sight. He scanned the cloud, searching for any sign of Link, when suddenly, Link's hookshot pierced through the smoke and latched onto Pit's leg. Pit was yanked out of the sky, dragged rapidly toward Link.
Just as Link prepared to deliver a powerful sword strike to the disoriented Pit, Bayonetta intervened, landing a surprise kick to Link's side. The force of her blow knocked Link off balance, causing him to stumble. Taking advantage of the distraction, Pit freed himself from Link's hookshot.
However, as Pit dashed forward with his swords ready to strike at Link, Samus appeared out of nowhere. With lightning speed, she delivered a devastating kick to Pit's midsection, sending him spiraling through the air. The force of the blow knocked Pit off his intended path, buying Link valuable time to recover.
The battlefield was in chaos, but Samus and Link were proving to be an impressive team, their coordination growing stronger with each passing moment.
As Pit struggled to recover from Samus' powerful kick, Bayonetta shifted her focus from Link, ready to show the Hylian hero just how dangerous she could be. Twirling her pistols with an almost playful ease, Bayonetta smirked and closed the distance.
"You've got skill, elf, but I hope you can handle me," Bayonetta teased, flicking her wrist to unleash a flurry of bullets aimed at Link.
Link raised his shield, deflecting the gunfire with precise movements. He quickly drew his sword and dashed toward Bayonetta, aiming for a quick strike. Bayonetta, ever graceful, dodged his attack with a sidestep, following up with a lightning-fast kick. Link barely managed to block it with his shield, the force sending him sliding backward across the arena.
Bayonetta smirked, snapping her fingers and summoning a giant demon fist from a portal behind her. Link leaped out of the way just in time, the massive blow smashing into the ground where he stood moments before. Taking advantage of her brief cooldown, Link pulled out his bow and fired several arrows in quick succession. Bayonetta danced around them, but one arrow grazed her arm, causing her to wince.
While Link and Bayonetta engaged in their duel, Samus turned her attention back to Pit. The angel was struggling to regain his balance after her earlier kick, but he wasn't backing down. Pit took to the air once again, launching a barrage of arrows at Samus from above.
Samus sprinted across the battlefield, dodging Pit's projectiles with expert timing. Her visor scanned his movements, calculating the optimal moment to strike. As Pit swooped in for a melee attack, Samus activated her morph ball mode, rolling underneath his strike and dropping a series of small bombs in her wake.
The bombs exploded, catching Pit off guard and sending him crashing to the ground. Samus quickly returned to her normal form, charging her arm cannon. She unleashed a powerful energy blast that sped toward Pit, but at the last moment, Pit raised his shield, deflecting the shot with divine protection.
"Not bad, bounty Samus," Pit muttered, wiping sweat from his brow. He rushed toward her again, this time determined to close the distance.
Samus, undeterred, switched tactics, engaging Pit in a close-range combat duel. The two exchanged rapid strikes, Samus using her arm cannon as a melee weapon while Pit countered with swift slashes from his dual blades. The clashing of their weapons echoed throughout the stadium, both fighters evenly matched.
Meanwhile, Link and Bayonetta's fight had intensified. Link managed to land a solid blow with his sword, but Bayonetta retaliated by summoning her wicked weaves, sending a series of demon limbs crashing down at him. Link dodged, rolling across the ground and hurling a bomb toward her. Bayonetta dodged the explosion with a flip, landing gracefully on her feet, but Link was already closing in again.
Bayonetta, seeing his determination, smirked. "Not bad, hero. But let's see how you deal with this."
She activated her Witch Time, slowing down everything around her. For a brief moment, Link moved in slow motion while Bayonetta dashed behind him, ready to deliver a finishing blow. But to her surprise, Link instinctively sensed her attack. As she swung her pistols at his back, he whirled around and blocked it with his shield, breaking the effect of Witch Time.
"You're not the only one with tricks," Link said, eyes narrowing in concentration.
The battle was getting fiercer with every second. After the Deku Nut exploded, leaving Bayonetta temporarily stunned, Samus quickly followed Link's plan, charging up her arm cannon to finish off Bayonetta. The bounty hunter fired a massive laser beam directly at Bayonetta, but in a desperate move, Pit flew in and shielded her, deflecting the powerful attack with his divine shield.
The redirected energy created a shockwave across the arena, causing both Samus and Link to take a step back to maintain their balance. Pit, breathing heavily but determined, lowered his shield and gave Bayonetta a quick glance.
"Not bad, angel," Bayonetta said as she recovered from the stun, a mischievous smirk forming on her lips. "But let's not get too sentimental."
Without wasting another second, Bayonetta twirled her guns and aimed them at Link and Samus, her playful demeanor returning in full force. "Shall we continue this dance?" she said, winking.
Link nodded at Samus, and the two prepared for the next wave. Bayonetta unleashed a storm of bullets, her guns ringing out in rapid succession, while Pit dashed through the air, positioning himself for a coordinated attack.
Link raised his shield to block the incoming fire, but he knew they couldn't just defend. He turned to Samus and nodded, signaling they needed to go on the offensive. With quick reflexes, Link hurled a bomb toward Pit, forcing the angel to maneuver and dodge, which threw him off balance.
"Now, Samus!" Link shouted, seizing the opportunity.
Samus charged forward, her suit gleaming under the arena lights. She activated her speed boost, closing the gap between her and Bayonetta in an instant. With a well-timed roundhouse kick, Samus knocked Bayonetta back, sending her crashing into the arena's edge. Bayonetta quickly recovered, but it was clear she was starting to tire.
Meanwhile, Link leaped toward Pit, his sword drawn. He swung his Master Sword in a wide arc, forcing Pit to go on the defensive. Pit blocked with his dual blades, but Link's relentless strikes were starting to overwhelm him.
The fight was intense, both sides struggling to gain the upper hand. As the dust settled momentarily, Bayonetta stood, wiping a bit of dirt from her face.
"Not bad," she said, her tone a mix of amusement and respect. "But this isn't over yet."
With a flourish, Bayonetta unleashed her wicked weaves again, summoning a massive demon fist from the shadows. Link saw the giant hand coming down at him, but this time he was ready. He swiftly rolled out of the way and fired an arrow directly at Bayonetta. She dodged it, but the distraction gave Samus enough time to reposition herself.
Samus nodded at Link, her visor gleaming as she charged her arm cannon once more. The battle was reaching its climax, and it was clear that neither team was willing to back down.
The battle intensified as the arena quaked with each blow. Bayonetta and Pit launched relentless attacks, but Link and Samus fought back with equal determination.
Link and Pit continued to clash swords, their movements swift and fierce, while Bayonetta kept Samus occupied with her acrobatic attacks and gunfire. The tension reached its peak when Pit and Bayonetta coordinated a joint assault. Pit ascended into the air, aiming his bow, while Bayonetta unleashed her wicked weave, summoning another massive demon hand to strike.
Link, catching the movement from the corner of his eye, yelled to Samus, "Watch out!"
Samus rolled out of the way, but as she dodged Bayonetta's demon fist, Pit fired an arrow straight at her. With no time to react, the arrow pierced Samus' armor, forcing her back, sparks flying from the damaged spot.
Samus grunted in pain, trying to stay on her feet, but Bayonetta seized the moment. With a devilish grin, Bayonetta closed the distance and performed a brutal combo, finishing with a powerful kick that sent Samus flying off the edge of the arena.
"Samus!" Link shouted as he watched her disappear into the distance, eliminated from the fight.
It was now Link against both Pit and Bayonetta.
Bayonetta smirked. "Looks like it's just you now, handsome."
Undeterred, Link tightened his grip on his sword and shield. He knew he had to think quickly. Pit swooped down from the sky, swords drawn, while Bayonetta circled around, her guns ready to finish the job.
Link deflected Pit's aerial assault with his shield, but Bayonetta was already on him. She fired a barrage of bullets, forcing Link to roll out of the way. As he rolled, he pulled out one of his bombs and hurled it at Bayonetta, forcing her to back off momentarily.
Taking advantage of the brief respite, Link turned and fired an arrow toward Pit, who was preparing another attack from above. The arrow hit Pit square in the wing, causing him to crash to the ground with a shout of pain.
"Damn you!" Bayonetta hissed, charging at Link again.
Link raised his shield, bracing for impact. Bayonetta's flurry of kicks and punches was relentless, but Link stayed strong, blocking and parrying each strike. However, as fast as she was, she wasn't invincible. During one of her rapid strikes, Link saw an opening.
In a swift motion, he spun behind her and delivered a powerful strike with the Master Sword. The blade connected, sending Bayonetta staggering backward. She recovered quickly but was clearly weakened.
Pit, on the other hand, wasn't giving up. Despite his injured wing, he dashed toward Link with his swords drawn, aiming for a finishing blow. Link had to act fast. He knocked an arrow and fired it straight at Pit, but the angel managed to deflect it with one of his blades.
As Pit closed in, Link pulled out his hookshot and fired it at Pit's leg. The hook wrapped around him, yanking Pit off his feet and slamming him to the ground.
Bayonetta, seeing her partner fall, grew desperate. She unleashed her most powerful attack yet, summoning a massive demon from the depths, its enormous maw ready to devour Link whole.
But Link was prepared. With quick thinking, he pulled out a bomb and threw it into the demon's mouth just before it snapped shut. The explosion shattered the demon's form, sending Bayonetta staggering back from the backlash.
Link charged forward, delivering one final, devastating strike to Bayonetta with the Master Sword. The blow sent her flying out of the arena, her figure vanishing into the distance.
Only Pit remained. Injured and weary, the angel tried to stand, but Link's hookshot reeled him in one last time. With a powerful swing, Link knocked Pit out of the arena.
The battle was over.
Link, panting and battered, stood alone in the center of the arena as the crowd erupted into cheers. He had emerged victorious.
THE WINNING TEAM IS LINK AND SAMUS!
The narrator's voice boomed through the stadium, as the crowd erupted into cheers. Link and Samus stood victorious, striking their victory poses. Samus gave a confident salute, while Link raised his sword high, his tunic billowing slightly in the wind.
Pit, despite the defeat, clapped with genuine respect and encouragement. Though he had lost, his positive spirit remained intact. "Well fought!" he called out to Link and Samus, smiling.
But as he turned to share his enthusiasm with Bayonetta, his smile faded quickly. Bayonetta was staring at him with a cold, serious, and slightly dangerous expression. Her usual smirk was gone, replaced with a look that sent a chill down Pit's spine. The cheerful angel's face transformed from one of happiness to one of anxiety, a bead of sweat forming as he nervously glanced back at her.
"Uh... B-Bayonetta, about the loss..." Pit stammered.
Bayonetta cracked her knuckles, her eyes still fixed on Pit, and with a sly smirk starting to form, she said, "We'll discuss it later, little angel."
Pit gulped. This was going to be a long conversation...
Now out of sight from the public, Link waited for Samus to remove her metallic suit. He leaned against the wall, still catching his breath from the battle.
"We did it," Link said, happy but clearly fatigued.
"Yeah, we did it," Samus replied, stepping forward and impulsively giving him a small hug. The sudden gesture caused Link to blush, surprised by the physical contact.
Realizing what she'd done, Samus quickly pulled back, flustered. "Sorry, Link... I was just, uh, a little tired. I almost tripped," she stammered, avoiding his gaze.
Link rubbed the back of his head, still flushed. "It's okay... It was nice," he muttered, and the two stood awkwardly in silence for a moment, both embarrassed.
Samus, trying to shift the mood, cleared her throat. "Aren't you hungry? I'm starving. Let's go get something to eat," she suggested, her voice betraying her nervousness.
"Yeah, let's go," Link agreed, quickly stepping ahead to hide his lingering blush as they walked toward the dining hall.
Meanwhile, in another part of the mansion, Pit was ready to bolt from the room, his nerves still rattled after the fight and Bayonetta's looming threats. He reached for the door, but suddenly Bayonetta appeared behind him.
"I've already cast a spell on that door, so don't even try," Bayonetta said coolly, watching him with an amused glint in her eyes.
Pit sighed in defeat, knowing escape was impossible. He lowered his head, resigning himself to whatever came next.
"Why so submissive, hmm? Were you this obedient when you served your goddess?" Bayonetta taunted, her voice dripping with mockery.
Pit stayed silent, too rattled to respond, but Bayonetta's playful tone softened slightly. "You know," she began with a smirk, "I like you a lot."
Pit glanced up, still wary, unsure if she was teasing or serious
Bayonetta, sensing his fear, continued, "But seriously, you put up a good fight. You're more formidable than most of the angels I've faced in the past. Teaming up with you is... fun," she said with a smile, leaving Pit bewildered but slightly relieved.
Pit stood frozen for a moment, his face bright red, both confused and terrified. Bayonetta noticed his reaction and couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"You can go now, little angel," she said, still chuckling. "That door was never enchanted. You're just so easy to manipulate," she added with a mocking tone.
Without wasting another second, Pit bolted for the door, opening it hastily and dashing out of the room. As he ran down the hallway, Bayonetta's laughter echoed behind him, making him wish he could disappear on the spot.
