Chapter 6
We met up a few days later. Brunch. The conversation started fun and light.
Eventually it evolved a level deeper. I shouldn't of been surprised that Clay was a decent guy. He was friends with Nathan and he knew his brother didn't befriend just anyone.
Once our entrees were brought to the table. The subject of family came up.
Clay lit up talking about his parents and how he grew up.
The beach house he had now was passed down to him.
His parents were married and very happy.
I opened up about my upbringing and he was alot more sympathetic than I expected.
( I have my mom and Keith very much involved and invested in my life now. I have a relationship with Dan too. Family dynamics can be really messy and layered.) I replied.
It was then that I saw the expression on Brooke's face soften.
And he wrapped his arm around her.
(When Brooke told me she lost her parents as a teenager. My heart just broke for her.) Clay said.
Eventually brunch came to an end.
Brooke insisted that Clay wait for her in the car.
And soon it was her and I a distance away from Clay's car.
(We both know you're parents are very much alive Brooke.) I said.
(I haven't seen or heard from them since I was 17.) Brooke replied.
