AN: Here's an idea that I had regarding semblances. Oh, and fun fact: The song Cold by Jeff Williams came on as I wrote this. Isn't that a bitch. I had this idea, and I thought it would be a cool idea. I wanted to put it on the page, and here we are. Yes, it's Jaune, but here we go.

Title: Soul House

/-/

Jaune and Pyrrha ran with their trembling strength. Behind them was the ruined Emerald Tower, where their Headmaster was fighting an exchange student in the school's secret basement. The blonde of their group didn't even know there was a hidden basement, much less a half-dead woman. Once they were far away, they stopped to collect some much-needed air.

Jaune huffed and pulled out his scroll. "Okay, I think I have Glynda's number." As he rushed through his contact list, his partner looked back at the vital infrastructure with fear. If the building fell, most of Vale would go dark, and from what little the two teens saw, their interloper wasn't at a first-year's skill level.

An explosion sounded from the basement, and they saw the exchange student fly up the destroyed elevator shaft. "No way," Jaune quietly mumbled through his trembling lips. He looked at his partner with questioning fear. "What was all of that?" She looked down for something and then at the mounting tower. "What?" Jaune looked between his partner and the building. Concern and worry were already sitting in his stomach, got together and gave birth to children.

"Get to Vale and call for help," she commanded.

"Wha? No, you can't beat her. You saw what she did to Ozpin. There's no way you can —" Pyrrha moved in quickly, and as she aimed for her battle partner's lips, a vaguely human shape shimmered in the air near them. She kissed him, however. It wasn't long, and they definitely clashed teeth against each other. But oh, she had wanted to do this for the longest time.

The boy stumbled into her heart like no other. While she had crushes in the past, she had never had anything like Jaune in her mind. He was normal, for lack of a better term. He was a calmer person compared to other huntsmen-in-training. Everything she had learned about his past and subsequent enrollment at Beacon Academy made sense.

Civilians just lived a different life from Huntsmen. A life full of fighting and an average life span of 35 are simple examples of what separates the two walks of life. From what she heard, his father did everything he could, despite being a strong huntsman, so his son wouldn't live this life. But it wasn't just that or how slow information got around the world. It was everything that she enjoyed, and by her spear, she would enjoy him for every last second.

Unfortunately, his dazed face brought her back to reality. It had only been a couple of seconds, truly. Then, with great pain, she pushed him into a nearby rocket locker. Jaune screamed her name, and each syllable clawed at her soul. She touched the control panel, and before the final push, she whispered one last thing. "I love you."

Thus, the rocket locker whisked Jaune away. The shimmer of the gray metal lock disappeared, and Pyrrha looked to her grave. The last place her material body would carry her soul.

/-/

Jaune cried in the sky above Beacon Academy and slammed against the metal container that carried him. His breathing became faster, and tears bled into his vision. He couldn't generate enough strength, thanks to the minuscule room the locker gave him and his inexperience with Aura. All those lessons with Ren, their resident aura practitioner, weren't enough. A familiar voice spoke, and his breathing slowed. "Okay, okay."

In the small world of the locker, the air hummed with power, and Jaune's eyes glowed with his soul's yellow energy. The yellow shifted to a grayish-white. The young man placed a hand on the door and sent a shockwave of Aura into the door. Within seconds, it blew off and flew into the air. Excitement and determined efficiency shot him out of the impromptu escape pod onto the ground. "I'm going to switch with you. Get ready and remember everything you learned!" Jaune shouted to himself.

His eyes glowed again from grayish-white to yellow this time. Fear made his eyes wide, but the moment brought his senses to the forefront. A nevermore flapped hard in a direction, no doubt to hurt some poor soul, but Jaune's sword had other ideas. It slammed into the monster of black, and with its momentum, they both fell toward the school grounds below.

The reunion with the ground made him want to hurl, but Jaune swallowed the bile. With his sword still in the disintegrating creature, he pulled out his scroll and tried to get Glynda Goodwitch. All the poor young man got in return was a voicemail. He growled in frustration and almost went to another teacher. Instead, he started scrolling for the person he knew was the fastest. "Because if Professor Goodwitch isn't picking up, then there's no way any teacher will." Jaune pulled his blade with a squelch and started to jog when it slid into its sheath.

/-/

Ruby swung decisively as another Grimm fell to her sniper-rifle-scythe-hybrid. Her scroll rang, and she answered it automatically. "I'm okay, Uncle Qrow. I'm at the lunch pads, getting ready to leave. But, Yang, she —" Jaune's heavy huffs interrupted the following few failing words.

"Is Yang okay?"

"Wha? Jaune? Yeah, she's okay. Kinda," she said as she looked over her shoulder. "But where are you and Pyrrha? We saw you guys run off with the Headmaster, but we haven't heard anything from any of you."

"Well, Ozpin…" Jaune was quiet for much too long for the young reaper's liking. "He's dead."

"Oh," she said as a well of despair started to form in her stomach.

"Is Jaune okay?" Nora roared as she and her battle partner, Ren, rushed to Ruby.

"Yeah," she said as she tried to calm the two. "Ozpin, though." She looked to the ground, and the friends around her caught the message.

"Ruby, I need you to be with me right now. Pyrrha is going after his killer." The huntress-in-training turned on her speaker function so the small circle could hear him. "She sent away in a rocket locker, but I got out. I'm… I'm scared she's going to get herself killed. I'm climbing the Emerald Tower to help however I can. I need you to hurry."

"Don't go. You'll get yourself killed," Nora half shouted with feverish dread. The crowd of civilians looked their way, but Atlas' soldiers kept them moving.

"You know I can't do that, Nora. I know you wouldn't let her face that monster alone, and neither will I. Which is why I need all the help I can get. Unlike Nora, I can't crush a Grimm's head with my bicep." Sounds of metal and the tower shaking sounded from the scroll. The group looked at each other despite their fatigue from fighting a whole battle against creatures of darkness and faunus alike. They rushed for the tower despite the pleas of their teachers.

/-/

"We're on our way, Jaune," Ruby shouted as the line went dead.

"Shit," Jaune cursed his luck and dashed even faster than he thought he could.

"You're going to burn too much if you keep that up," a see-through figure in a white cloak said as it floated next to Jaune. It kept pace with the blonde and was never a pace behind.

"But he has to hurry. Here, you can borrow my Aura, brother." Another see-through figure in a simple blue dress with blonde hair said and floated next to her. Her hand reached out, and his legs glowed a pretty brown.

"Thanks, Marron. So I was thinking that we just open with full possession with you at the front, Summer. I'll give you all the Aura I can before I sleep. How does that sound?"

"I like it," Summer said. The woman forever stuck in her twenties steeled herself for the second fight for her life. It wasn't just her that she had to worry about, but thankfully, two of her charges wouldn't have a body to worry about. When Jaune met her, he screamed and cried like he had just seen a ghost. To be fair, he really did just see one.

A ghost, one of the many that haunted Beacon now, phased through the floor as it reached out for the boy. He sidestepped the ghostly being and kept dashing up the staircase. The ethereal figure's ever-cold hand latched onto his foot, but he tore from the chilling grasp. They tried to latch on to him again, but Jaune wouldn't deal with another passenger. With a final huff, Jaune crested the top of the stairs and busted through the door of the destroyed Cross-Continental-Transmit-System tower.

The sight before him evoked the concern and worry in the pit of his stomach into something bile-churning. Pyrrha was on her hands and knees. She was beaten and bruised, and her face contorted into pain when Jaune came into view.

Her assailant stood there, surprised, and then cruelly drew a smile onto her face. "Well, you're certainly the last person I expected to show themself. Maybe the young Rose or even your beserker of a person you call a friend. But the little knight?" She laughed melodically, and it only enraged him further. "Now that's just a joke."

Jaune didn't know where it came from, but heard a snapping sound. It must have been his patience because he replied with a shout. "Full Possession," He cried. The words Summer Rose were supposed to follow, but a foreign name sat in his mouth. It filled him and choked his airway, confusing the room's combatants.

It filled his mouth cavity and reached out, freeing itself. To him, a hand popped out of his mouth, halting any movement. To the women, a shimmer appeared in front of Jaune, with his mouth wide open. It took hold of the air and pulled the rest of itself free. A short-cropped woman floated behind Jaune, her fingers divided into smaller segments. They shot onto his appendages and lunged the young man into the devil woman.

The other ghosts did what they could to pull Jaune free.

/-/

Pyrrha's mental faculties were going haywire. The pain of being shot at her achilles heel made her mind cease any focus she had, and then Jaune busted in. Her fears simmered when he started to use his full possession. But from what Jaune had told her about his semblance, this wasn't full possession. His face contorted in pain and confusion; beads of tears even crept into the corners of his eyes. His mouth pried open in silent horror to its extreme.

Then he leaped.

There wasn't any sign of his body bending for the action. His body just suddenly flew through the air toward Cinder.

He literally fought like a man possessed, with his limbs moving like a puppet's. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't truly see. She strained her eyes on Jaune, and three shimmers floated beside him. But Jaune never had more than two people beside him. From his descriptions, it was like he was a container. His soul carried the other souls; someone would get shoved out if he tried to hold more than he should.

Did his semblance evolve? All she knew of semblance evolution was that a semblance used repeatedly was more likely to develop than one that was used only once a week. She supposed he always used his abilities to keep his sister and Miss Rose within him. Jaune swung for Cinder's neck, but she dodged it with a terrifying grace.

A fireball formed in her palm, and she pressed it into his chestpiece.

/-/

The flame orb exploded upon the young man and rocketed him to the damaged elevator shaft. Jaune's muscles ached, and his bones felt on the verge of breaking. The new ghost, which should be impossible, pushed his body beyond his limits. He saw the ghoul for the first time, and it resembled the hurt woman in the basement.

A white sheet stretched over her form in place of her tan skin. The skin of her ghostly form was pulled to its limit by her fiery rage. One good tug could break open the skin, and whatever ghostly innards she imagined up would fall out. The bandages with her in life carried over and pulled along with the flesh. The wrappings almost made her look like a mummy wanting to steal your soul for raiding their tomb. Her right eye, through her short, cropped hair, was the only visible part of her face, and the pupil contorted into that of a predator. It reached out to Cinder, and so did he.

The only explanation for what was happening was that their opponent put her low in life. It was a start, more than anything else. Suppose that wasn't the reason why this lady was trying to beat her into a bloody pulp. Then Jaune would have to get used to her ghost tail forcing its way out of his mouth. He saw Marron and Summer do their best to pull off the appendages, so he would do what he could on his side.

With his eyes closed, the young hunter-in-training focused on his soul. He felt a connection with Summer and Marron. He searched under the light of his soul. It was his soul, after all, and not some separate entity from him. Ren would give him a lecture if he thought otherwise. He found the connection between his new passenger and himself.

Jaune reached out, and everything went dark. He couldn't feel Summer or Marron. He looked left and right, but he could only see the 2 feet of visibility his soul provided. Then that range got smaller, and he felt the thing he was worried about. This forceful possession was draining his Aura at an alarming rate. He reached for anything. "Hey! Stop!"

The void.

The darkness didn't respond. Jaune stared with wide eyes of fear, and he tried again. "Please! I want to help you get back at Cinder, but you have to calm down!" He looked into the darkness again, but saw nothing. Then, from somewhere and nowhere, he heard the faintest of whispers. He looked up and down, but he found nothing. Then, when he looked forward, one giant eye looked at him.

"Who are you?" She said.

"I-I'm Jaune." He had to steel himself despite the weight of her soul pressing against his. He felt it trying to force out Marron and Summer. He couldn't let this person eject them before they got their proper send-off. He would let Ruby and Yang see their mother one last time. "You must be the person Cinder killed. Please let me help you. I can help you get back at her."

"Where… am I?" She said.

"In my body. You died. Cinder killed you, and I'm guessing she put you in that machine in the basement of the school."

"School? What school?"

"Beacon. She and a bunch of White Fang let in Grimm during the Vital Festival." The darkness started to fade, and he could feel the faintest trace of his friends within. "Then Ozpin." The darkness halted and fought back. It lashed out and made deep gashes on his imaginary body.

"Ozpin?" They said in fear.

Confusion.

Pain.

Jaune started to feel claustrophobic, and his heart raced a mile a minute. Then he heard his name.

/-/

Ruby and Ren ran up the tower like madmen. With the assistance of the white glyphs below their feet, they made what could have been an impossible climb into a short sprint. Unfortunately, they had to leave Nora and Weiss on the ground. Nora didn't have the speed to scale it, and Weiss had to be stationary for such a heavy task.

She had to leave Blake behind with Yang, so their small-man team would have to do it. Hopefully, their negative emotions wouldn't attract the Grimm Dragon. When they leaped over the lip of the building, they saw Jaune pinned to the wall by a black arrow. "Jaune!" Ren shouted. Ruby saw Pyrrha leaning against a wall, and she rushed over to her with her semblance.

A mass of roses transformed into a 15-year-old warrior beside the downed red-haired Spartan. "What's happening?"

"Jaune's semblance is going haywire, I think."

"Jaune has a semblance?" She squawked. She watched Ren rush to Jaune. Cinder launched an arrow aimed at Ren's skull. Before it found purchase, Jaune punched him aside. They all stood there stunned, and then a hoarse scream ripped from Jaune's throat. From his sitting position, he seemed to fling himself forward into Ren. "Jaune, what are you doing!? That's Ren!"

Cinder laughed as she watched her interlopers try to subdue their friend. Ruby rushed to help Ren, and she readied her bow once more. It aimed squarely at Pyrrha. With surprising strength, the crazed man threw them off with pure force alone. The invisible force pulled his body up to Cidner's confidant form. A surprised look flashed across her face, and she quickly aimed at the boy. An arrow slotted sickly into his shoulder, but he kept coming with possessed rage.

The tall young man and the Gothic Lolita watched as their friend attacked Cinder like a raving dog. "We have to do something. Ren, what can we do?"

The long-haired man looked at his crimson-haired teammate and then back at Ruby. "We've never seen anything like this." Through the destroyed entrance, Nora and Weiss came in with weapons ready.

"Is everyone okay?" She looked to Ren and then to Pyrrha. "Oh, Pyrrha, no!" Nora rushed over with Weiss in tow. Nora checked over her sister with a familiar worry. The ginger warrior looked at the fight for a second, and she could feel the fury within Jaune. He honestly fought more like a wild animal than a huntsman-in-training. "Jauney, no." Tears sat in the corner of her eyes as she watched the savage display of murder.

"What is Arc doing?" Weiss questioned as she followed the group to some cover.

"It's his semblance. It's going haywire," Pyrrha explained. She winced in pain when her achilles tendon touched the ground.

"Will someone tell us what his semblance is?" Ruby complained as the battle behind the metal gear raged on.

"It's called Soul House," Ren started. "It allows him to house the souls of the dead and then have them aid in whatever he needs. Be it information, Aura, or even their semblance. But he needs to build rapport even to use their semblance. But right now?" Ren looked at the battle. "I think one of the ghosts has gone crazy."

Ruby and Weiss were stunned, but Weiss recovered first. "So he's possessed?"

"Yes, but I don't know why they would do that. They seem to have a great relationship."

"Yeah, his little sister and your mom love him." It took Nora a moment to realize what she was saying, and she slapped her hand over her mouth. She looked at the youngest of their group, and Ruby was almost catatonic.

"Mom?" She said quietly

"He didn't know it was her until 2 days ago, Ruby. He was going to tell you after the festival, but then this happened." Ren quickly added.

Weiss looked at her partner and placed a hand on her shoulder. The stunned reaper looked at it and then into her warm, icy blues.

"Well, I guess we have 4 people to save then. But we can't get too close without being attacked by Jaune. He's also moving too much to get a clear shot." They could hear the flapping of massive leathery wings as the Grimm Dragon raced toward the position with a trajectory for the tower. "Shoot." Ruby vaulted their hiding spot, and everything seemed to slow to a crawl. They screamed his name as the dragon smashed into the tower.

As they fell with the tower, everything accelerated in an instant. Rubble flew, and their bodies went in different directions. Ruby watched as Nora took hold of Pyrrha, and the others disappeared behind the falling metal.

/-/

Cinder glided down with flame jets coming from her palms and feet. The dragon flew off into the distance with a huff. Each wing beat threw down sludge that spawned creatures of darkness. Arc, Rose, and the Nikos brats have to be here somewhere. With those two dead, the Mistress will be so pleased that she'll reward me handsomely. The rubble shifted, and Cinder got her palm ready with a sizable fireball.

A blur of red roses flew at her from behind and struck her with a battle sycthe. The force of the blow sent her tumbling to the ground, but the witch was able to catch herself at the last second with flame jets. Bullets flew at her, but her training kept the traitor to humanity safe. Her arm thrust forward, and the creatures of Grimm surrounded Ruby Rose. Heaves of carbon dioxide left her lungs, and oxygen jumped in to take their place.

Like cockroaches, Nora, Ren, Weiss, and Pyrrha popped out of the rubble. Frustration marred her face, and she zeroed in on Pyrrha. "Kill them."

/-/

Jaune shook from his slumber as a piece of rock pressed into his stomach. He could move, and surprisingly, all he had was a broken arm. He could hear battle from above, and Jaune knew he had to join them. But first, he had to address the new roommate. "Will you let us deal with her for you?" The ghost that possessed the poor boy was floating there meekly. Her face was bland. Her short-cropped hair covered her eyes. A scar was the only thing that gave Jaune any inkling of who it was. She nodded her head rapidly. Jaune was able to sigh at that confirmation. "You still down for our original plan, Summer?"

"Of course, but you have a broken arm and probably almost no Aura." The explosive sounds of battle raged outside their hiding hole, and Summer could only sigh. "I doubt we can count on your friends as well."

"I wish I could help, but…" His dead sister floated and looked helpless in her simple brown dress.

"It's okay, Marron. We probably have 30 seconds at best. So, do you think you can kill her?" The ghostly mother nodded resolutely and closed her eyes to focus. "Alright. Full Possession: Summer Rose!" A yellowish-white light enveloped the teen, and his body changed. The impossible became possible as he became someone else. Jaune had to quiet his fears of snuffing out his or Summer's soul lest his doubts interrupt the Full Possession.

His doubts could slash their contract and kick the older woman out of the driver's seat. The boy sucked in one last morsel of air that Jaune could claim was his and closed his eyes. When the pair of eyes opened, striking silver orbs stared back.

/-/

The dragon made of shadow and nightmares snapped its bony maw at the small flesh bags. Hundreds and thousands of years must have passed because the buildings differed from the last time it was awake. The flies flew around its body and pointed their strange tools at him. Whatever they did or didn't truly affected him.

Their attacks created minuscule spawning pools for Grimm. Another flesh bag danced around, throwing fireballs at them, and the dragon could only groan. Why couldn't he just swallow this one when it produced so much negativity? He could feel the presence of a Parasite Grimm within her and chose to focus on the destruction of the flies in front of it.

One of them actually cut its body deeply, and it sneered at the red fly. In retaliation, its tail swung to smash them all. It only caught one, but one was all it needed. Their negative emotions doubled, and more of the dragon's family made their way over to the battlefield.

They yelled something in their language. Huh, the language had changed as well. Why did they always have to change and never accept their end? Why not stay on the set path given to them by their gods? A flash of light disturbed the battle. The flies halted their dodging, and the dragon saw an opportunity.

A claw came down, and the red fly stood frozen in fear as the dragon bloomed with glee. Then, from nowhere, a white haze snatched the fly.

/-/

Ruby couldn't believe her eyes. Grayish-silver met silver, and the older pair of eyes smiled back. Pain, sadness, relief, and a thousand other emotions played with each other in the newcomer's orbs. "How are you doing, my little Rosebud?"

With that voice, tears rose to the surface without question. Ruby couldn't place it, but the nickname was Rosebud. Only her family called her that; people like her sister, father, uncle, and…

And…

They put her down, and Ruby's mind slowed as she returned to reality.

"Can you help me finish this guy off?"

She sniffed and wiped away more tears. "I sure can, Mom." Arming sword and scythe, the two met in the middle as they disappeared in a blur of white and red. The pair danced up the dragon, leaving gouges in their wake. The dragon roared, and the witch aimed balls of flame at them. However, Ren fired Pyrrha's rifle to return the focus to him and his partner.

They reached the dragon's head and slashed its eyes respectfully. Ruby's was, unfortunately, a bit shallow, but her mother's praise made pride swell within her. "Good job, sweetie. Now, I'll show you something you'll learn soon enough." Summer's silver eyes glowed with power. Like a balloon, the shimmering swelled with each nanosecond, and finally, a tsunami of silver light rushed out.

It bathed the entire area and swallowed everything around them. When it all washed away, every single Grimm became stone. The young hunters in training looked around, stunned at the sight. The two attackers felt gravity pull them back to the ground, but a woman's guttural scream pierced the night air. They all turned to see the woman, Cinder Fall, clutching her left arm. The arm muscle greeted the air, and her eye socket was empty.

"RAGGGGGHHHH, YOU!" She ripped from her throat. "I, I'LL, I'LL KILL YOU, RUBY BLOODLY ROSE! YOU WORM! YOU MONGREL!" The orange fire of her soul leaked from her eyes, but the pain of having her flesh ripped down to her muscle and losing an eye took her concentration elsewhere.

Summer clutched her ample chest in pain as a cold sweat took hold. "Mom!" She felt Jaune's fear, and the older woman felt the same worry. He was grasping at straws when it came to Aura. Someone's soul would be snuffed out if they kept this up. As far as they knew, they couldn't move on to the next life.

Whoever that was would be snuffed out and become dust.

It was an experience their host didn't want to live through again.

"I'm okay, but I have to go, okay, sweetie? Protect Jaune; he doesn't have much left in the tank." With her final message, she pulled into a cocoon of energy. They would've crashed to the ground if it weren't for the young Rose. The group of young teens all crowded around the shimmering ball of energy and watched as it grew into a similar shape. The growls of Grimm broke them away from the transformation, and they saw that Cinder was gone.

"We need to leave now. Nora, you carry Jaune. Ren, you're with Pyrrha. Weiss and I will protect the four of you." They nodded and rushed for the evacuation docks with a roar.

/-/

The day's light wiggled its way between Jaune's eyelids and brought him to the world of the living. He touched his chest and felt his heart trying to break free from its cage. The beeping of a heart monitor reassured him that he wasn't dead. Jaune relaxed as his head hit the pillow below him. "Jaune!" Marron called out. "You're awake."

"Yeah, I am. Summer, you still there?"

"I am. I didn't get snuffed out."

"Thank the Gods." His arm covered his eyelids, giving him an escape from the light. "New girl, are you there?" Jaune removed his arm when no one responded, much to his distaste. They floated there, clearly embarrassed and relieved for his health.

"Hi," they said, terrified.

"Hey." Their terse interaction produced a long silence, and neither of them seemed to be able to break it. Marron and Summer looked at each other and sighed. The door to his hospital room broke its seal to reveal Ruby and his team. They shouted cheers at their newly awake friend and swarmed him with questions. Jaune chuckled and laughed through the pain. "Yeah, I'm okay. Although the pain is slowly coming back. Where's Pyrrha?"

"She's okay, but her family pulled her back to Argus." Jaune nodded slowly and then looked at his broken arm. The memories of the battle slowly fed into his mind like a reel of film. It was a slow and jumbled mess that he had to piece together when he had the time.

"Jaune," Ruby's voice snapped him out of his concentration. "Is... is she here?"

He sat up the best he could and looked into his friend's silver orbs. "She is. Do you want to meet her?"

"Can I?" Her tears blinked away as she tried to stay calm. Jaune breathed in slowly, and his eyes darted beneath his lids. When he opened them, his eyes had transitioned to a grayish silver. He or she blinked several times as the pupils readjusted to the light again. They looked directly at Ruby and smiled softly.

"Well, hi there, my little Rosebud."
