"I've found a spell," Giles announced. "or rather a type of trance one can go into. It allows for the person in the trance to see spells or things that are indicative of spells or possibly the face or a characteristic of the one who cast the spell. A spell requires intent and intent is a part of the castor, so the castor invariably leaves something of themselves behind when they cast a spell. This will allow us to see what that something might be."

"I'll do it." Willow decided, reading the information. "Tara's my girlfriend and I need to make sure she's alright and if someone has hurt her, they're going to pay." She swore. She settled down in the back of Giles' store, the Magic Box, where he'd made a workout area for Buffy. It was quiet and in no time Willow had achieved the trance. She opened her eyes and the world looked - strange. Well, of course it would, the trance enhanced her senses. She stood up and made her way into the main room.

"Did it work, Willow?" Buffy asked, anxious for her friend. Willow looked at her and frowned, before looking at Tara and than Giles. She raised her hands and examined them.

"Something's wrong." She murmured, moving forward.

"What?" Tara looked scared. "What's wrong, Willow? What are you seeing?"

"No spells on you."

"That's good." Buffy looked relieved. "But that doesn't explain why Tara thinks you said something you didn't."

"Buffy, I see spells on you, me and Giles, not on Tara. Someone's cast spells on us. I can see dark clouds around your head and Giles and I'm catching glimpses out of the corner my eye of clouds around me. Someone's done something to us, not Tara!"

"Stay calm, Willow." Giles instructed. "Focus on the clouds, try to see passed them. Are they hiding the castor or are they hiding something from us?"

"Hiding something from us?" Buffy questioned.

"Perhaps it's our memories that have been affected." Giles suggested.

"How? Did we see something someone wants us to forget? Maybe the clouds have something to do with the castor, like their name is something weather related. Like rain, Ethan Rayne! Could Ethan Rayne have done something to us?"

"Possible. I wouldn't put it passed him." Giles muttered.

"Wait!" Tara held up a hand. "This all started because you thought someone had made me believe Willow told me that Xander had helped with the battle against the Mayor and you insisted Xander wasn't even there. What if someone made you forget something Xander did?"

"But Xander's never done anything important -." Willow started to protest.

"What if he did and someone wanted you to forget it? Mr. Giles, you keep a journal of all Buffy's battles, right?"

"Yes, I do. Ah, I see, if there is something someone wanted us to forget, they may not be aware of the fact that I keep a journal. If what's in my journals doesn't match our memories, then we may have the answer to what someone wanted us to forget." He headed for the door. "I'll close up and we'll go to my place, that's where I keep my journals. Hopefully it won't take long to find out what's going on. I'll drive."

"No, I'll drive." Willow grabbed her keys. "It'll be next week before we get there if we take your car." A grumbling Giles followed her out, with Buffy and Tara following. Once at Giles' condo he pulled out his journals and passed them around, the four of them read in silence.

"Giles," Buffy's brow was wrinkled. "my second day in Sunnydale, I went in the sewers to find Willow and Xander's friend, he'd been taken by vampires the night before."

"I remember." He looked up. "I recorded it in my journal."

"You wrote that I told you Xander went with me and he saved me when some vamps grabbed me."

"I did? I don't remember you telling me that."

"I don't remember telling you that either and yet you wrote it." She showed it to him.

"That's my hand writing." He agreed.

"I've found something." Willow called. "When Buffy went to face the Master Angel saved her."

"Yes, he did." Buffy smiled. "I opened my eyes and there he was."

"You told Giles that Xander revived you, Angel told Giles that you'd fallen face down into a pool of water and drowned. He and Xander went down into the sewers together to find you and Giles wrote it was a good thing they did, because Angel didn't know CPR, but Xander did."

"I don't remember Xander being there at all." Buffy protested.

"But Angel might." Giles suggested. "Whoever cast that spell on us, may not have cast it on him. We should call him and determine what he remembers."

What Angel remembered matched Giles' journal entry. It was becoming clear, someone wanted them to forget Xander.
