"Sooo that's what you look like?" Black Feather fairly chirped out in surprise, his feet clacking on the ground as he tried to lower his head closer to them. IF they were home, Rua would have been the first to start questioning the dragon on if it could stand ok. If he needed something?
Leaving Yugi wondering where one would even 'try' to put crutches on Black Feather.
"In their first lives yes more or less in one case," Yugi answered for the dragon before returning his attention back to the children. While He began pulling at the infinite, pulling the universe in for its Final End.
"Do you think PowerTool can lift this Aki up safely now that B... MoonRose is out?" Yusei asked, fumbling over the reveal of BlackRose's real original name. MoonRose was beautiful, even ifs momentary manifestation was enough to give Yusei pause. Some stupidly still churning out information part of his brain took note of how similar the pair's names were. Star and Dust, with Moon and Rose, the dust could be the dust trailing a shooting star. But it could also be the pollen used to...
'I'm so proud of you, Yusei," Yugi mused to himself. 'You 'can' have erotic fantasies about Aki... Now if you can just forget that we're here watching you...'
But that was just the remaining desire in Yugi to 'not' nuke this universe. Because it wasn't anything he wanted to do, but He had to. Everything was falling apart, planets were out of options at this point. Their would be champions dead or never permitted to breath, and it was cascading.
'Yuya could have stopped this.' was a casual thought among all the variations of Yugi. But 'could' wasn't 'did', and Yuya hadn't been able to survive to the critical point. There 'were' a great many realities where he 'had' made it. Many times Yugi had stepped into that reality and could smile with true happiness as he saw things being righted with Yuya's presence.
PowerTool was walking away and adjusted his limbs to get the job done. Now that BlackMoon Rose was safely removed. While off to the side Crow watched, comforted that they were about to get this Aki out of her reality before it all came down... But then his gaze went up to the large dragon who had been with them. Guilt filled his gut as he realized they would be leaving Black Feather Dragon to die, and unlike everyone else who was oblivious.
He wasn't.
"Oh... man... Yusei... Bro..." Crow called out dashing Yugi's dream that Yusei would get to first base in a fantasy JUST ONCE.
Yusei turned with Aki lightly peeking over his shoulder to see Crow gesturing a bit with his head towards Black Feather.
The pair looked up at the dragon then back at Crow before the understanding slowly started to manifest in their eyes.
"Uh Hey God Sir? Yugi Sir?" Crow called out, anxious at the idea he was about to ask something of 'God' when he wasn't anyone of worth.
Yugi gave a half shrug, "I'm fine with 'God Ma'am. But sure go ahead." He turned and gave Crow something no one really ever wanted. People 'often' wanted Gods' attention, until they realized God was looking right at them. And being God, meant that Yugi was aware of the mounting panic that was snacking on Crow's nerves. The panic about the dust and muck that covered the teen, worry that Yugi would be displeased at how he appeared.
"Answering your third question first, no, people who are 'fated' as you're thinking it, to meet me or 'blessed' with interesting lives directly like Yusei, don't have that same anxiety that you're showing. Its just not something they feel. As for your second question, you look 'fine' I know you've been through a great deal and its not realistic for you to come out smelling like, well, roses. As for your first question. I believe you already were given a method to solve that problem by one of my counterparts." Yugi answered with a warm hearted fatigue in his voice. Crows were such chatty children when they chose to walk away from being an EarthBound...
PowerTool dug into the ground while Archfiend 'begrudgingly' reached over and helped brush away layers of dirt that would have smothered the other Aki. But the great dragon wasn't thrilled by what he saw. Without her BlackRose supporting her, there were these holes in her skin, likely from where the roots that fed her plunged themselves in. But as his great claws swept then brushed aside the dirt he could see more of her. The girls' legs were useless and withered to just flesh and bones, the muscles gone. Her hips weren't much better and some part of Archfiends' mind pondered how much longer could BlackRose keep her Aki alive?
"So that's what human women look like down," he began in the stupidest way to say...
Ancient Fairy Dragon inserted her front paw between his line of sight and the young child now woman. There was something to be said about seeing her lips curl in as she began carefully scooping the child out of PowerTool's 'hands'. Ancient Fairy closed her paws around the girl slipping through the air like a current her wings carrying her effortlessly.
"Um hey, Black Feather, if this works, you want to come with us? To our reality?" Crow asked with this awkward almost shy tone while looking up.
Black Feather Dragon, for his part, was in shock and he was so slapdash in appearance, anyone below Yugi would have been justified in wondering if the dragons' beak would fall down from the shock of hearing that. The jaw just fell open and swung there, the tongue dangled out. Yugi pondering if he needed to let them know the macabre history of Black Feather Dragon. "You... you would take me with you? I could see other people?"
The twins turned at the giddy sounding dragons' voice and watched as Black Feather fairly danced in place. Which was a bit scary when seeing those very pointed like blades feet begin stabbing at the ground in mounting excitement.
"I'd rather him come with us and live then stay here and die." Ruka whispered to her brother who nodded in agreement.
"Yeah especially when he would be the only being in this universe to know its about to go bottoms up." The boy looked up at the sky and now with the sun in the way the blue sky blocked his sight of the stars.
Of all those worlds.
"Oi! We bringing the feather duster?" Jack bellowed out.
"Ye, Yes! Yes we're bringing him!" Crow answered and nearly collapsed under the waves of relief he felt when he saw Yusei and Aki also nod in acknowledgment. Though they didn't look back at him, checking on this realities' Aki, they nodded in time to his voice. Having both his brothers blessing on something like this when they were already burdened with so much.
"Oi what about the Black Feather of our Reality? Does something happen to that one?" Jack asked, since there was no one else in this reality and now only two Aki's... But with one clearly aware and one not there couldn't be a problem. But even Jack found himself pondering if there would be with two mentally active Black Feathers in the long term.
"The creator of Black Feather Dragon died of cancer, in this reality her last act was the finishing stroke on Black Feather. Her death energy giving Black Feather his life. But in your reality she died before completion and Black Feather never awoke. So you're fine," Yugi explained causing everyone to now turn and look at Black Feather. Suddenly he made sense, Black Feathers' creator was probably riddled with meds that weakened the mind. Even now there might have been a more unified or cohesive design they 'would' have done. But just never had the focus...
They looked pale and drawn, and this worry formed in the pit of his stomach as Black Feather turned his head to look at them all. Desperation making him finally ask, "am I in trouble? Is cancer a bad thing? She turned into a skeleton, but I can take you to her... I.. I'm not coming with you am I?" He asked his head hanging down. His mane swaying in the breeze as he stood there...
"Cancer is a terrible thing yes," Crow admitted, "but you're coming with us, I'm not leaving you to die here, I'd like to think your creator would like to see you live!"
'You'd make that girl very happy Crow if you took Black Feather with you.' Yugi thought to himself as Crow began patting himself down.
Yugi stepped forward, the motion instantly getting Black Feather's attention as the dragon swung his head to focus on Yugi. "When he finds the card just imagine it as a hole you want to squeeze yourself through, don't worry about the size. Just make the effort," he instructed.
As Crow finally produced the card, the memory of how Yugi gave it to him. Did he know? Or did he hope?
Black Feather's feet danced on the ground creating this clacking beat as he focused with all his heart on that card. Thus was quickly absorbed into it a swirl of black and red a clack of beak as he disappeared for the first time into a card since he left his original card. Crow, on the other hand, looked ecstatic, with the black and red feathers, there was certainly a type of unity between the pair and their personalities would work very well together.
Of course Black Feather had been pretty isolated on this world from anyone and was about to be unleashed on a normal world with a proper population... While a few stars crumbled into oblivion...
"Wait... We need a card? We need a card!" Aki's voice filled the air in mounting panic as she rushed to the pile of dirt they had just disturbed. "Angel where's your card!" She ordered as she dug her words snapping the spirit out of the near catatonic state she had gone into.
It took several moments, before Aki's words reached her ears, causing the spirit to slowly look around. "My Card? Why? Am I going somewhere?" She asked, spreading out her wings to fly over to this other Aki. Covered in ash and dirt but she was so alive!
"We can't leave you here," Aki pointed out as she continued to dig, with Yusei slowly moving forward to join in the search.
"Oh! Well, I'm on my Aki, in her pouch at her waist." Angel explained and pointed to her poor sad partner. But her words relieved the others, Yusei helping Aki to her feet.
"In that case get out of here," Yugi announced simple enough as a slit appeared in the air and pulled back.
"Wait what?" Ruka blurted out in disbelief. "We're leaving? Now?"
"Yes, now," Yugi answered with a defeated smile. "I told you before, this reality is coming to an end, you need to go."
"But...! But all those people! I mean sure they're sleeping you said, but!" Ruka began to look among her elders, her pleading gaze going to Ancient Fairy. "Shouldn't there be prayers or something?"
Yugi sighed, the type of sigh that spoke of the ages, weighted down and even hopeless. Perhaps that hopelessness was why he shrugged and just abandoned hope. "When I created the Universe I gave all people the power of choice. It was one of my greatest gifts. So when someone chooses to kill themselves, they have arrived to me in one of two ways. Panicked scared, begging to 'go back' they didn't mean it. But they're dead, they made their 'choice' and there is no undoes in a matter of such gravity. They break down. They cry in my arms, they didn't mean it they could have done other things. They were just desperate..."
Yusei and the others grew quieter if that was possible, they approached Yugi with slow measured steps born of trepidation and concern. Magnified by billions as they saw the tears flow down Yugi's eyes. The weight of knowing 'God' was crying before them and they didn't know what to say to ease His pain.
"The other half ask me 'what did they do to deserve their pain?' They believe their lives were cursed by 'me', that I 'chose' for them to suffer and have no problem with they being dead. Because they have so fully given up on life. I have seen people from all worlds, taking their lives because they were the wrong gender, race, religion anything and everything. And I just have no words to appease them, because saying 'oh if you just waited' is so shallow. Saying 'in a few hundred years things would get better' is so cold. So what is the point of prayer? Prayer is to commune with me, and I know full well I'm about to genocide this universe. But would you rather everyone reach the slow poisoned death that brings them to me in defeat and despair because there is no hope left in this universe? Or should I not grant them a peaceful single death while there is a dying spark of hope?"
Never had anyone felt so trapped out in the open when no breeze came to carry the words away. It stifled them, pulling their necks closer to the ground as they tried to process the conflict of a life time of education. God was meant to be this peaceful being that was All Knowing and kind and here He was.
Crying.
They made God Cry.
Ruka took the first step, the sound of her sneaker peeling off the dead petals as she hesitantly walked over. Each step crumbled more petals as they died around them, while all she saw was Yugi standing there. Long hair down not sticking up, his clothes all black, boots, pants, tank top, very dark blue long coat, so much an average teenager. He could have spent his days with Yusei and the others back on Satellite.
The tears were of blood, that stuck out to her, they were the red that rolled down from his eyes staining his his already dark purple eyes even darker. He watched her with these patient eyes, before he began wiping the tears away with all the casualness of a mortal. He was 'God' like absolute yet he was crying for them.
"I want to say there 'has' to be a way, there has to be a way to save them, but that would be cheating wouldn't it?" She asked, her words piercing the silence and stillness with the slightest of breezes.
"There's a saying, 'be the change you want to see in the world'," Yugi replied sadly. "And I have it seeded out that every few generations or so one such 'change' is born, a person who personifies attributes that the world is losing and needs to rekindle."
He didn't continue and there really wasn't a need to, it was just smothering to know so many people existed who existed just for that purpose was dead.
"so what happened to all of them?" Yusei inquired at this nagging chip in the system that felt wrong. It had a place. He just needed to figure it out.
"They were permantly removed."
"Sounds to me like someone was intentionally trying to get rid of them," Crow noted but it felt incredulous that people could be targeted and Yugi not... He would...
He was looking at Crow.
God was looking at Crow.
"That's the same as giving up though," Ruka noted as she stood there, reaching her small hand out to hold Yugi's older hand.
"That's the rule of the game," Yugi corrected in this way that broke their hearts. Given what Yugi represented just on the level of card games. Knowing who he 'really' was and knowing He was being forced to give up.
"You're 'God' Change the rules!" Rua argued as he jogged over to join his sister.
"That's cheating." Yugi pointed out as a slit appeared before them off beyond where Crow and Black Feather Dragon had been.
"Its impossible though, how can all these people, all your pieces be getting destroyed?" Jack argued as he tried to imagine the logic of what he heard. The people who were meant to bring about positive change were being murdered?
Yugi gestured towards the portal, "The destruction of this reality has already begun, the exterior of the universe is being pulled in to me even now. You should go, this was never your intended destination anyway. So to answer your question," Yugi gently pulled his hand free of Ruka and turned to walk away. "One of my 'pieces' as you put it, betrayed me."
They stood there watching as Yugi walked away and the realization that the 'universe' was closing in on them, on 'him' didn't really reach them. They had time. Time to stop and stare at the back of what appeared to be a mere man but was so much more. There was a ripple in the coat that moved as he walked while they closed in on each other.
'God had been betrayed.'
It hung in the air.
It stabbed the air with accusation and grief.
