Turfs wars were a rather simple thing, as Plaze has learned over the past 2 hours they were out on the field.
Most of the combatants were either people who had no souls and were only looking for a fight to have fun with, or extremely weak people with only at most 20 souls they got from several bets or the like.
As such, Plaze's appearance meant that most contenders ran away knowing full well they had no chance against him. Minus, of course, the delusionals.
Now, with the battlefield around him silent came the act of actually claiming territory.
Most of it was empty space and barely occupied buildings. Things that would essentially act as a buffer area to keep competing Overlords away. Or if Plaze wanted, he could use those buildings as extra homes or Plaza sponsored stores to continue exploiting his workers. Maybe even sell them off to other Overlords so they could sell their products in his territory.
Occasionally, there would be a few homes or stores that a few sinners would be living in. They had to pay protection money to Plaze in order to gain his protection from more nefarious sinners, or, more euphemistically, a tax.
It wasn't a large amount of money, as most sinners didn't know how to save money given the fact that they were in Hell. But it was a nice source of income nonetheless.
As the third hour came to a close, Plaze had swept up several city blocks into his territory, and there had been essentially no competition.
The only reason why he stopped expanding so soon was because the territory around him was either not worth the effort, or too much chaos was going on to stabilize the territory.
To his north, there was a small Car Overlord, Liang, that called him earlier to essentially beg him to not intrude on his territory that he began to expand. But there were a few small TV factories in his territory that Plaze wanted, so he managed to trade a non-aggression pact in exchange for ownership of those factories. But since Plaze wasn't there in person, he couldn't hire any of the workers, so it was just sitting empty until Plaze could hire workers.
To his south were a bunch of other carnivals and festivals along with a few miscellaneous factories Plaze didn't need. There was an old arcade factory there back when Sergeant Hammer was actively trying to push the industry, however, so Plaze would likely be knocking on their doorstep very soon.
It was also infested by a bunch of Plaze's very own instigators already. So they were essentially softening up the territory for Plaze to take over later.
And, of course, to the East was much of Varvidniye's core territory that still had all its successors still fighting over the scraps and territory where all of the most valuable factories laid. Then that side of the city also had a whole bunch of other people Plaze would have to likely contend with. The biggest of which seemed to be Irving, which was a festival Overlord quickly turning into just an everything Overlord, trying to use everything in his territory, getting into fights with everyone, including the old Varvidniye staff.
Speaking of Varvidniye…
As he was sitting on the rooftop of a random building, his phone began to ring.
Picking up the phone, Plaze hears Jalaha's voice calmly telling him, "I have managed to hunt down 3 of their executives who were trying to escape the city. Would you like me to bring them to you, sir? Or shall I cut off their arms and legs and find some more of them?"
He was planning to help Jalaha with his search ability after this, but it seemed as though the Cow Sinner was perfectly capable on his own. In fact, Plaze had no idea how Jalaha just knew Varvidniye executives.
Thinking it over, Plaze had no idea how many of the top brass of Varvidniye were actually important and had a good amount of wealth at their disposal, or were just important in that they were managers of people.
So, he told him, "Make sure they can't run away, and I'll head to their location while you go find more of them. We don't know if they have the kind of money we need, after all."
"Yes sir," Jalaha said as screams immediately erupt from the other end of the line, causing Plaze to hang up.
"What a guy," He remarked to himself as he stood up and let the satellite dish on his head pop out to look for the executives Jalaha left behind, "Really glad he stayed with me."
Figuring out the location, Plaze jumped down to the streets and met Mehira, who was calmly listening to the radio in the car.
Getting in the car, the Gaming Overlord tilted his head at the voice in the radio and asked, "Who is this?"
"Alastor, the Radio Overlord," Mehira replied as she sat upright in her seat, "Where are we going?"
"Jalaha left some executives for us to talk to, I'll tell you where to drive," Plaze said as he then listened to the radio.
Apparently, it was just Alastor talking about how radios were the superior means of communication compared to TVs. There was a lot of smack talk about Vox, though, so even though Plaze disagreed, he still listened.
Shortly after, they made it to the building that Jalaha had left the three executives in.
Entering the small office building, just as Jalaha said, they found three sinners with their limbs cut off. Completely pathetic and unable to do anything.
Mehira had brought along the angelic pistol with her for insurance, and that was already enough to completely terrify the already frightened executives.
"So," Plaze began, ensuring that he had their rapt attention, "It has come to my attention that since Chroma died, people are beginning to steal a bunch of his money and leave the city. I am also aware that you three were in a position to do so, and have attempted to escape with said money."
The tree-like sinner immediately got what he was putting down and made his offer, "You can take it all! My bank is Zestial Banking! I can make the call-"
"Good, do that, then, transfer it into my account," Plaze quickly agreed, turning to the other two, "Now, as for you two, what did you even do at Varvidniye?"
The frog sinner gulped as he admitted, "Basically nothing… I'm an investor!"
"Give me your money and I'll let you live," Turning to the last sinner, another humanoid sinner, he asked, "And you?"
"I… Managed several of the TV factories, sir," He said, nervous.
Ah, that's the sort of talent the Plaza currently needed.
With that in mind, he offered, "Sell your soul to me and join my company, and you'll get to keep most of your wealth."
"I- Deal!" He quickly accepted, selling his soul right after.
So, Armiz joined the Plaza as a manager of the TV factories.
With that finished and confirming the other two successfully transferred all of their money into his account, only having to pay a small transaction fee because they believed the old owners were dead or soon going to be, everyone left the building alive.
Or, well, Plaze had to carry Armiz while the other two executives would be waiting for several more hours for their limbs to fully regrow.
Over the course of the day, Jalaha caught several more important executives, some of the negotiations failed, some did great, and by the end of it all, the Plaza now had 3 million dollars to work with.
According to Jessie, it would last them 4 months if they don't break even on sales.
"Seriously? Only 4 months?" Plaze had to ask for confirmation upon hearing the numbers, "Our current holdings aren't that large, we can't be spending the same amount of money we did before. Are you sure we're not getting ripped off somewhere?"
Jessie nodded, showing her work, "Yeah, I made the calls to get our suppliers back with us. Some of them decided to break with us to not potentially piss off Vox, but most of them agreed to sell to us as long as we have the money. The thing is, they made everything more expensive because we don't have the leverage of Carmilla on our side to bring down the prices."
Frowning, Plaze had no choice but to just accept it, "Tch, fine. As long as we break even on sales, we should be fine. How much will it cost to create a console and cartridge factory? And how long will it take?"
"Beats me," She could only shrug, "That seems up to the construction company to decide. There's only one construction company in this city because Chroma allowed them to have a monopoly in this town. But as it stands right now, they're also trying to take advantage of the chaos to expand, so we might not be able to hire them for some time when we need them right away. I don't think we can even sell our TVs, since all of the things that aired on them were by Varvidniye's money and they specifically didn't allow VoxTech or DreamScreen things on it."
Ugh, that's annoying. The Plaza TV was meant to be used for gaming. Plaze wasn't interested in all that other junk…
Though, DreamScreens… Plaze has never met Bendy before, but maybe it's possible to offshore that on him?
Thinking about it, Plaze asked her, "Do you think it's possible to get DreamScreen segments on our TVs?"
"Well, as far as I know, it would just require the TV to be allowed to tune into more frequencies that the other Overlords use…" Jessie seemed unsure, however, "Er, it might be better to ask one of the new hires about it. The ones from Varvidniye."
So Plaze noted it down to do that later.
Then, Jessie moved on, "More importantly, it's just going to be Herta and Himiko as the reliable coders, right? It might take us several months to even get a working game out. We could just resell all of our old games for a discounted price, but since our fall at the hands of Vox, he began to resell them."
"I'll code fast enough," Plaze simply promised.
Jessie raised an eyebrow, "Can you?"
"I can," Plaze confirmed as he changed the topic, "So, I'll do the majority of the coding for our newest games. Jessie, that new console is basically ready to be launched, right? Or did you need more time designing it?"
"The PES 2, or if you wanted to change the name of it before we launch it, seems ready on paper, sir," Jessie confirmed, "You can start working with its specifications right away."
After a bit of thought, Plaze told her, "Call it the Super Plaza Entertainment System, it sounds flashier."
The doll sinner simply nodded, "SPES it is. Anyway, Mehira, you said earlier that you could find us a hellborn construction company, right? Is that something you can still do?"
Mehira raised an eyebrow at the last part of her sentence, but ignored it as she confirmed, "Of course. Given the travel distance, though, I need you to give me the schematics and outlines to give to them so they can have everything they need to start working right away. I'll call you with the costs they want when I meet and talk to them."
"That works," Jessie said as she turned towards Plaze, "Well, the one last thing is that we could get a loan to cover for all of this and use the money we got from the executives for a rainy day. I know we didn't really plan to get the money from the executives the first time we got here, but considering we don't know how much money we're going to make off of sales, it still might be worth just finding a loan…"
"We'll consider it after we see the construction company's pricing," Plaze decided on the spot, "Say, do Zestial's banks lend out loans?"
"Er, they're an option, but since they're the biggest banks and have a lot of people they're responsible to, they have high debt interest rates like all the other lenders in Hell. If we don't turn a profit, we're not going to be able to fully pay it off for a long time."
"Ah."
Right. Why wouldn't the biggest bankers in Hell not be loan sharks?
"So we'll consider it after we see the amount of money we need," Plaze repeated, turning to Mehira, "Mind if you go down to the lower rings now, then?"
Mehira nodded, "Sure thing. I'll call you in a few days. It'll probably take a bit to find the people I need to find, since they're all a bit slow on taking technology from the Pride Ring."
Humming, Plaze acknowledged the possibility of delay, "Hm, got it. Jessie, give her whatever she needs so the construction company can build what we need for the consoles, cartridges, computers… All that stuff."
As they exchanged items, Mehira soon left the city, and the Plaza was now in an uncomfortable state of waiting.
AN:
I needed a banker Overlord and decided on a whim that Zestial would be it.
Anyhow, I will now transition to writing for my other 2 fics until this is uploaded and spend the last 10 days of April just writing for this.
Good day.
Written April 4th.
