The first chapter is from chapter 10 of Breathe, but with a good ending, and it'll be a short story.

Just a note that if you see "After Max Heart timeline" behind a summary, it means that it's all in the same world as the said timeline.

I apologize for posting, deleting, and re-posting. Something was wrong with the site, and after waiting for 8 hours until it was posted, it disappeared within an hour. It was so annoying...

I decided to refine it but wasn't satisfied with it. I didn't do another chapter because it was the year my mom's friend died of cancer, so I'd like to dedicate it to her. She was like an aunt to me.

I don't own Pretty Cure.

Hikari was excited as she packed the takoyaki she recently cooked for her sick friend, as Porun demonstrated out of curiosity. Lulun hopped on the table to join in to see what was keeping Porun interested, while Hikari tied a purple ribbon around the box. When Hikari was done packing, she tapped the box, satisfied with herself at how cute it looked. Meanwhile, Lulun was pulling lightly on Porun's ear, and to Porun's annoyance, he tried to run away from her, but Lulun managed to keep up with him. Hikari quickly took the box off the table to avoid any accidents. Hikari smiled as she imagined Nagisa's face when she laid eyes on the takoyaki. The thought of her thrusting the takoyaki down her throat with a happy smile made Hikari giggle, to Porun's and Lulun's confusion.

"Yes, I think it would be better if you could tell Shiho and Rina about it to solve the problem. Since they got into a fight, I guess Nagisa can't face them." Hikari heard Akane's distant voice from the living room. Without thinking, she advanced up to the door and took a peek. With her glass of soda in her hand, which she held so lightly that Hikari was afraid that she would drop it, Akane seemed more worried than usual, though Akane was smiling, which made Hikari ponder that she was trying to cover her sadness. Though she didn't understand why, is it because of Nagisa? She's going to be okay, right? She'll be smiling and running around enthusiastically. Why is everyone making such a fuss out of it? she pondered.

"Yes, it's leukemia, but don't worry, she'll make it." She smiled in hope, but inside she was worried that she would lose her. Hikari could have sworn she saw a tear on Akane's face as she said that, as she saw something sparkle. Hikari was afraid to enter; she didn't want to interrupt the conversation, but she stuck her head inside. She was interrupted for a few seconds by the perfume smell Akane had probably sprayed. Porun and Lulun, who followed her and had been there since Akane mentioned the word 'fatal' without her noticing, stuck their heads too inside. Porun couldn't resist asking the question what 'fatal' meant, but that would expose their identity.

"I'll say hi to her for you. Ok, bye." As Akane laid the phone beside her, she rubbed her face to dry up the tears. Hikari automatically moved forward as she stepped onto one of the floors, which made a creak sound, which caught Akane's attention as she turned around to face Hikari and quickly put up a fake smile. Hikari couldn't but smile awkwardly back.

"Oh, hi, Hikari." Akane greeted while drying the left of her tears without showing them to Hikari. Hikari stepped further inside as Porun and Lulun hid behind the door. Akane caught her eyes on the takoyaki box, which Hikari was still holding on to. "So, you're going to see Nagisa?" Hikari looked confused until she saw what Akane was staring at and nodded with a smile.

"Yes. But I'm waiting for you to be ready." Akane breathed deeply, stood up off the couch, and headed to Hikari. As she approached her, she placed her hands on Hikari's shoulders and stared into her eyes.

"I'm sorry, Hikari. I can't go." Akane widened her eyes. Hikari was getting more and more worried about her. It was obvious that Akane was trying to hide her tears from her.

"Why? Don't you want to see Nagisa-san?" Akane bit her lower lip as she looked shamefully at the floor for a few seconds before she looked back at her and replied. "No. I have an important errand to do. Tell Nagisa that I and Yohsima-sensei said hi."

"B-But, Akane-san..." Hikari tried to protest. Akane took a piece of paper off the table near the couch she was sitting on and headed to Hikari.

"The Wakabadai hospital is near the little store I go to buy for takoyaki ingridents. Good luck." Akane explained that as she pushed her out of the house, Porun and Lulun managed to jump into her pocket without Akane noticing. Hikari looked at the door, befuddled, but shrugged and moved forward. Akane sighed deeply while trying to hold back her tears as she walked back to the sofa. As she sat down, she looked up to the ceiling as she said to herself.

"I don't want to see her like that." Tears started to flow again uncontrabilly as she repeated what she said and curled into a ball.

The sun shone brightly, and no clouds were seen in the sky. Hikari looked up at the sky while holding a box of takoyaki and accidentally looked at the sun, automatically making her peer into her eyes. She used her arm to cover the sun from her eyes; it was too hot for her; she felt like an egg frying on the street. "Popo!" Porun said happily as he popped out of Hikari's pocket. His smile faded as he felt the heat, and he stuck his tongue out.

"Too hot-popo," he said, making Hikari giggle.

"Are we going to see Nagisa-Lulu?" Another creature spoke and popped out of her pocket. Hikari nodded, excited to see her friend. Hikari suddenly thought of Honoka; since they both had a fight, won't she visit Nagisa? Well, she can see her when Nagisa is checked out of the hospital, and they can be friends again. Everything always turns out to be okay for those two. Hikari stopped her tracks as she saw a familiar person with blue hair sitting on the bench near where Tako Café always was. She seemed desperate as she saw that her eyes were lifeless and she was in her thoughts, or so it seemed.

"Honoka-san?" Hikari asked herself loudly as she approached her and sat next to her. She tried to call her name again, but it was futile. "Honoka-san?" she tried once more as she touched Honoka's shoulder, which made her startled. Porun came out of Hikari's pocket to go over to Honoka. He hadn't seen her for a long time, so he was so excited that he didn't notice that Lulun joined in too.

"Hikari-san...?" Honoka looked down when she felt the touch of Porun and Lulun's little hands on her hand and smiled sadly at them. "Honoka-san, what are you doing here?"

"J-j-just enjoying the summer breeze," she chuckled awkwardly. 'She's acting differently, like Akane-san.' Hikari was about to say something, but she held back as Honoka cut her off. "You out here with Lulun and Porun to enjoy the summer too? Those takoyaki look delicous." Hikari gripped the box tighter as she looked at Honoka nervously.

"No, I'm going to visit Nagisa-san at the hospital." 'Oh no' she thought within. She shouldn't have mentioned Nagisa; she forgot that they were still in disagreement. Hikari waved her hands sideways when she let go of the box. "Forget what I said! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to" Hikari stopped as Honoka stood up; her eyes widened.

"W-w-what did you say...?" Hikari was afraid of Honoka's behaviour. She backed up as Lulun and Porun stared at them, not knowing what was going on. "P-p-please, Ho-Honoka-san. You're sc-sc-scaring me." Hikari backed until she couldn't back anymore since she was on the edge of the bench. Honoka grabbed Hikari's shoulders as she had her face closer to her. "What hospital is she in? What's going on?"

"A-a-at the Wa-Wakabadai hospital..." With that, Honoka let go of Hikari and ran as fast as she could to the destination.

Nagisa sat on her hospital bed, bored. She didn't have her handheld console to play or kill the time; the channels weren't interesting, and she wasn't in the mood to sleep or eat. She got herself into a fetal position as she sighed and buried her head. "God, I wish I had my GameBoy Advance," she murmured as she pouted.

"Hey, pass it over here!" she heard a boy voice outside. Curiously, she stood up to see what was going on outside. Five boys were playing soccer; they used their sweaters or jackets to make a goal. Nagisa smiled at them as she put her hand on the window. The brunette boy approached the goalie and shot a goal. He ran everywhere until, in the end, he hugged his friends, victorious. Nagisa looked away as her smile faded, but she caught her eyes on three girls playing jump rope, two swinging the rope and one jumping in the center.

"Mommy, why can't I go out and play?" Nagisa shook her head as she recalled that memory when she was little. She closed her eyes as she squeezed her hand. She went back to bed and sat in an Indian position as she went into her thoughts.

(Flashback)

And an orange-haired little girl watched out of the window in her pink pajamas with her teddybear in her hand, in envy of the kids playing outside. She looked down sadly as she was about to cry, but was cut off when her mother came inside her room. "Nagisa, what are you doing? Go to your bed now!" she scolded. Nagisa did what she was told and crawled under the sheet. Before she laid down, she faced her mother, who was winding cloth to put on her forehead, but she was cut off by someone who rang the doorbell. Excited, she ran to the door as her mother yelled at her from behind. She opened the door; there stood three of her friends, one girl and two boys. One of the boys was holding a football on his hip; he had a bandage on his right cheek, and his hair was spiky. The other boy had mold on his knee, indicating that they were palying before they came to her house. The girl was a tomboy; she wore jeans and a T-shirt. The boy, who had the football, showed Nagisa the football while he asked.

"Hey, Nagisa-chan. Would you like to play with us?" Nagisa made a big smile as she replied. "Of cour-"

"I'm sorry, kids. Nagisa is sick; she can't go outside." Rie cut her off as she put her hands on her daughter's shoulder. Nagisa looked up to her mother, disappointed. "But Nagisa-chan is always sick. When will she get better?" Rie couldn't tell them that Nagisa had a very weak body, and if she went out, it could get worse. Rie put up a smile. "Don't worry, she'll get better soon." The messy boy murmured okay and said goodbye to Nagisa. As they shut the door, Rie pushed her to her bedroom while Nagisa tried not to budge, but it was futile for a little body like hers. Nagisa tucked herself in as Rie but the cloth on her forehead and kissed her goodnight. Before Rie exited the door, Nagisa turned to her mother.

"Mommy, why can't I go out and play?" Rie didn't want to tell a little kid about their condition, that she might die if she went outside. "Because then you can't go to school and then you'll get sick again." Nagisa bought that and said goodnight to her. Rie shut the light off and shut the door as Nagisa went into a peaceful sleep.

(End flashback)

Nagisa stared at her hands in anger as she murmured to herself. "I'm sick of doing nothing when I'm sick." she squeezed her hands.

Bang!

"M'am, you cannot go there!" a nurse said. Nagisa widened eyes as she saw her best friend inside her room. It was Honoka, the last one to be expected to show up. She thought that she hated her for what she did. Honoka was about to get dragged outside as she tried to catch her breath. "Nurse. Lete her go, she's a friend of mine." Friend. It was hard for her to spell out that word. Why is Honoka here? Is she here to end the friendship? That'd be a good timing for Nagisa since she's already dying.

"Why...?" Nagisa looked at her, confused, yet she was nervous because she was busted. "W-what?" she asked with awkward smile.

"Why...? Why didn't you tell us...?" Honoka asked, her voice shakily as her tears were forming. Nagisa was surprised. She never thought that Honoka would care, even if she did something horrible to her. Nagisa was stressed, she sat down on her bed.

"I thought… that if I made you guys hate me, then you wouldn't mourn for me when I die." Nagisa smiled sadly.

Nagisa felt something hard bump on her cheek, making her head turn to the left; automatically, she turned her head to the right with widened eyes. With her hand on the bruise, she turned around to Honoka, who was still in the same pose when she slapped her; her hand was in the air with her head turned to the same direction as hers. "Don't you ever dare say that again! You're not going to die! You will walk out of this hospital, healthy and enthusiastic again!" Honoka dropped to her knees by Nagisa's bed as she started to cry. "You will not die…" She was confused. Nagisa was about to touch her head, but hesitated. Eventually, she comforted her with a hug.

"I-I-I-I'm sorry!" she burst into tears too. Without warning, Mepple and Mipple popped out and started to cry, as Nagisa comforted them too. Within the tears, Nagisa couldn't help but smile. She had great friends who cared for her.

"W-wait. Why are being friendly with me? With all the things I said to you, Rina and Shiho." Nagisa widened eyes. "Nagisa..." Honoka said as she put her hand on her shoulder. "Everytime we fight, something is bothering us." 'She's right!' When they fought twice, once after they just met and became Pretty Cures, what was bothering them both was that Honoka was sad what Nagisa said and Nagisa regretted what she said to her. Also, when they went skiing with the gang, Honoka accidentally said that she liked Fuji-P senpai right where he was just passing by on skii elevator. It made all sense to her.

"So...you know about my condition...?" she asked out of blue. Honoka hung her head, first at Nagisa's concern but she lifted it back up with sad smile. "The doctor at the desk told me about it...but I know you will fight this!"

"That's right-mepo. We will stick with you in this fight-mepo!"

Nagisa grinned out of her ears as she threw her hands in the air, enthusiastic.

After Honoka left to visit Nagisa in the hospital, she was partly relieved. All the attention she was getting because of her condition and she didn't like getting sympathy, it made her feel weak and she would get vacation from Mepple. Still, it felt weird not to have a little voice whining for food. Before she tucked herself in, something hit her.

The what-do-do list she made in school. She took out the paper from her clothes that was laid neatly by her mother on the chair. Nagisa would take her jacket and dress herself. She reads the paper over before looking at the clock across the room; 1:15. Nagisa drummed lightly on the paper, thinking. 'Maybe…if I went out just a second and come back before they notice I'm gone…' But…she felt like a little angel on her shoulder telling her not to. She tried to reason with the angel, 'what if I die? I won't be able to confess to Fuji-P'.

"Nagisa-san?" Nagisa snapped out of her thought when Dr. Hiyamori along with a nurse entered the room. Nagisa clenched her fists, cursing lowly at herself for wasting time. The nurse held her shoulders, as if trying to make sure she didn't escape, as Dr. Hiyamori approached her. She submissively allowed the nurse to undress her although in bad mood for being caught in addition being stared at by her doctor.

In her gown, the nurse lightly pushes Nagisa on the bed and lightly taps on side of her arm before cleaning the area with disinfection. The nurse would then inject a needle into that area, causing Nagisa to winch a little. The nurse would then attach the IV drip and cover her with blanket. Nagisa appreciated it but it was just too hot to be in a blanket in middle of March.

"You'll began chemotherapy in two to five days." Dr. Hiyamori explained as the nurse did her job.

"Expect hair loss, infections from low levels of white blood cells, tiredness, mouth sores, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, skin and nail changes and inflammation of the membrane covering the eye and lining the eyelid. There's a possible long-term severe side effect of any organ damage." Nagisa gulped, feeling nervous of the upcoming therapy.

Dr. Hiyamori catches on the paper Nagisa is holding and the jacket she was wearing. The nurse looked at him concerned. Hiyamori nodded at the nurse as thanks, the nurse would bow her head before leaving the two alone.

"Nagisa-san…do you plan to die?" Nagisa's body froze at that question, crumbling the paper as if the words stung her heart. She looked away ashamed as Hiyamori approaches and sits on her bed side. She looked away ashamed as Hiyamori approaches and sits on her bed side.

"I know this is all terrifying but running away won't help the situation." Nagisa hung her head ashamed but Hiyamori continued.

"If we Humans were always running away from our problems, we'd never would've gained courage to get on top of the world. Never gotten the courage to face those mammoths, you women getting the rights, freedom from slavery. Getting a bright future." Nagisa just played and unscrambled the paper while looking at it but would be listening to the good doctor.

"Why not atleast try to fight against the cancer when you have a chance of doing so? You did promise your family, right?" Nagisa stopped immediately and flung her head up to look at him. She crumbled the paper again without noticing it as her eyes would become watery. Dr. Hiyamori placed his hand on her head with a small smile.

"You can fight it. You can beat it. Have courage."

Nagisa looked down at her hands, the paper had been stained with her tears. Staring deeply at it with blurry vision, she gathered courage and ripped the paper in small pieces.

"I-I'm gonna beat this…"

Nagisa laid down on the hospital bed, still with the IV attached to her arm, watching the TV hung high next to the door. Nagisa sighed, picking up the remote and started to flip the channel until she found an old anime she had watched when she was a kid. When…she was sick all the time. Still, Nagisa snickered to herself as she watched the Magical Anime with the blonde-haired main heroine. Never in her life would she thought that all the magic and transforming in anime would happen in real life. She lifted her hand up, pretending to hold Honoka's hand with her right.

"Dual Aurora Wave!"

After few seconds of nothing happening, Nagisa lowers her arm a little with a goofy smile while laughing at herself. "Just kidding."

Nagisa froze when her eyes met on her friends, her face turning slightly red of embarrassment as her arm was lowered without her noticing herself. Honoka was trying to stifle her giggling while Hikari smiled, tilting her head.

"You miss being a Cure Black?" Honoka asked as the girls approached her bed side while Mepple, Mipple and Porun shifted into their normal form onto Nagisa's bed. Nagisa snickered lightly before replying.

"Y-yeah, watching this old anime made me miss saving the world."

Honoka turned her head towards the TV as a smile on her face appeared. "Ah, I remember that anime. I glanced at it occasionally as a kid." She turned her head towards Nagisa, but her eyes were caught on the IV attached onto Nagisa's arm and her smile fell again.

"When….will you start chemotherapy?" Honoka broke the silence.

"Two to five days." Nagisa replied as the mascots glued their eyes on the TV. Especially Porun.

"Kimo…therapy? Kimono therapy, what's that?" Hikari asked while she tilted her head.

"It's about time Nagisa goes into therapy-mepo." Mepple smirked. Nagisa clenched her teeth as anger built up and as usual, she ended up stretching Mepple's face. Honoka hurried over to Nagisa to try and keep the IV steady.

"Nagisa, please don't fuss too much or the IV will fall off." Nagisa listened to her and let Mepple go, Mepple jumped over to Mipple with a pouting face. "Che-mo therapy, Hikari-san. It's a treatment against cancer. It…might be given with a curative, reduce symptoms or…prolong life." Honoka explained but fell silent when she reached the last word.

"Honoka, I'm gonna beat this. Don't worry." Nagisa said with reassuring smile. Honoka gave a small smile before it fell again. Hikari, even though she got it explained, would be still confused.

"I…excuse me, I need to use the bathroom." With that Honoka left the room leaving Nagisa worried and befuddled.

"I think Honoka-san is…sad because she met an old crush?" Hikari answer puzzled. Nagisa would lean forward, wanting to approach Hikari but the IV would limit her movement. "You mean Kiriya?!" Hikari nodded.

"Honoka…"

As if on a cue, Honoka would enter the room again and look at the two who'd stare at her. She washed her hands before looking up to small crowd infront of her, blinking. Nagisa, Mepple and Mipple gave her a sympathetic look but Nagisa broke the silence and put up a fake smile and different topic.

"Hey, Honoka, can you do me a favor?" Honoka's glance fell on Nagisa. "Can you bring me some homework from school?" Everyone's jaws dropped at that question but Nagisa knew the reaction would be that way, so she added.

"I want to feel atleast accomplished that I finished school. Besides, it'll help with boredom." Honoka smiled then nodded as yes. Nagisa threw up her arms, forgetting the IV on her arm but luckily it didn't de-attach. Honoka had her eyes on the IV just in case if it fell off. Hikari and Honoka turned around when the same nurse who injected the IV into Nagisa while the mascot turned back into cellphones and into their owner's pockets. Except Mepple went with Mipple. She pushed her feet down near the bed then looked at the teens.

"Misumi-san needs to get to an X-Ray inspection to see how big the cancer is. Would you like to wait for her?" The nurse asked the girls with gentle smile. The girls shock their heads.

"No need, it's late we need to get home. Nagisa, fight." Honoka said finally before exiting the room with Hikari, bowing their heads to the nurse as she did same. They held the door open for the nurse as she wheeled Nagisa out of the room, Nagisa would give Honoka a passing high five with a smirk.

Okay so...I decided to do an alternative version of Breathe because of the Next Generation since she survived the leukemia. So yes, this story is in same universe as Next Generation and Breathe is in Alternative universe. I also wanted to include when the girls graduated and when Honoka moved to France, met Kiriya as reincarnation (I'm aware he's maybe 10 last episode of Pretty Cure? But I wanted to up his age four years so they can date)

Yes, that was Sailor Moon Nagisa was watching, haha. Since Nagisa was born in 1990 and Sailor Moon ran from 1991 to 1997, I thought it would fit.

If anyone know more about acute leukemia and/or about chemotherapy, please contact me via PM. I'm still using Google as a research source at the moment.

Please leave a review and tell me if the first chapter or story overall is good so far!
