This is my very first time posting a fanfic, so please feel free to give advice or criticism (as long as it's constructive lol). I've been playing around with the idea of writing HP fanfiction for a few months, but I've always been too afraid to actually post the stuff I've written on an actual site, and this is my first time actually making that leap. I hope people enjoy reading this!

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, and I borrowed some lines from PoA in this chapter for Hermione's letter.

Harry has been having the greatest summer of his life. It all started when his godfather rescued him from the Dursleys. He's been vacationing with his godfather and has been having so much fun. They've gone to so many different places. Harry does think it's a bit odd how Sirius doesn't like to stay in one city for more than a few days, but he's been enjoying all the traveling and sightseeing, so he's not complaining.

A few weeks into his summer vacation with Sirius, while they were in Majorca, Harry gets a rather strange letter:

Dear Harry,

There's been some rather concerning articles about you in the Daily Prophet (I've been getting it delivered; it's so good to keep up with what's going on in the wizarding world). I do hope you're all right. They say that you've been kidnapped by Sirius Black! I'm sure it's all a load of rubbish, but it still makes me worry. Please write back as soon as you can. It will be nice to hear from you, and to know that you haven't been kidnapped, of course.

By the way, speaking of the Daily Prophet, did you see that picture of Ron and his family at the beginning of Summer? I bet he's learning loads. I'm really jealous — the ancient Egyptian wizards were fascinating.

I'm on holiday in France at the moment and I didn't know how I was going to send this to you — what if they'd opened it at customs? — but then I stumbled across wizarding Paris! It was by complete accident, I was pointing out an opera house to my parents, but they said they couldn't see it, so I realized there must have been a muggle-repelling charm, just like at the leaky cauldron! We spent the afternoon exploring Place Cachée, which is the French equivalent of Diagon Alley, and I was able to find an owl post office to send a letter to you.

There's some interesting local history of witchcraft here, too. I've rewritten my whole History of Magic essay to include some of the things I've found out, I hope it's not too long — it's two rolls of parchment more than Professor Binns asked for.

Please respond to this as soon as you can. Like I said, there's all sorts of rumors in the Prophet about you being kidnapped by Sirius Black. I know it's probably just a hoax to sell more newspapers, but I can't help but worry.

Love Hermione

What a strange letter. Harry chuckles at the word "kidnap". Rescue would be more accurate. Still, it was nice to hear from Hermione. As he looks across the Spanish beach he was currently relaxing at, he gets distracted when Sirius hands him an ice cream cone. A few days later, he starts to pen his response.

Hi Hermione,

I hope your summer started out better than mine did.

Harry wasn't sure exactly how the Prophet knew he was with Sirius, maybe one of his neighbors was a squib or something. He chuckled to himself as he thought back to Hermione's little joke about being "kidnapped" instead of rescued, and decided to play along.

I'm not sure how the Prophet found out, but yeah, I've been kidnapped by Sirius Black.

When Sirius introduced himself earlier that summer, and invited Harry to live with him, he had jumped at the opportunity. He hadn't exactly asked the Dursleys for their permission, so maybe "kidnapped" wasn't technically inaccurate, but Harry was very eager to get away from Privet Drive.

He winced at the reminder of his life at the Dursleys. Still, he was hopefully never going back there, so maybe he should open up to her a bit and tell her what it was like.

Constant beatings and being starved for days is not fun.

Before he started writing, Harry made sure Sirius couldn't see him. He didn't want Sirius to see him writing to a girl, get the wrong idea, and Merlin forbid, give him "The Talk".

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I needed to make sure that Sirius doesn't know I'm writing this letter.

Sirius has been a ton of fun to hang out with. The only real problem is the obscene amount of name puns the man makes. If he hears "I'm always serious" one more time today he's going to go insane. Harry chuckles, thinking puns might be considered a type of torture. He should add another little joke about that.

It's been rough. I'm trying my best, but it's hard when I'm being seriously tortured every single day.

He's done so many fun, but dangerous things this summer. Bungee jumping, cave exploring, scuba diving. If Hermione knew all the details, she would probably say he was on his way to being put in a hospital. What was the name of the wizarding hospital again? Oh right, it was called St. Mungos.

At the rate things are going, I'm probably going to end up in St. Mungos.

He didn't know anything about St. Mungos, except that Lockhart was in the Janus Thickey ward. He's not sure what that means exactly. He has no idea what the Janus Thickey ward is, but he does not want to be Lockhart's roommate.

I really hope I don't end up in the Janus Thickey ward.

He was thinking about surprising Hermione by visiting her in France, but he wasn't sure what the best day to visit would be.

I miss you so much. I have no idea when I'm going to see you again.

After he told Sirius about the Basilisk last year, Sirius threatened to send him to Beauxbatons. Thankfully Harry managed to talk Sirius down, but he's still a bit worried he might decide Hogwarts isn't safe.

There's a chance we might never see each other again, though I really hope that isn't the case.

Since he's trying desperately to avoid "The Talk" from Sirius, he can't be seen writing letters to a girl. He should probably say something in case he can't write again for a while.

No matter what happens, I just wanted to say, thank you for being my friend. Your friendship meant more to me than you could ever know.

Harry nods to himself as he signs his letter. He cleans off his desk and spends some time removing all traces that he wrote a letter. He doesn't want to risk Sirius asking embarrassing questions. As Harry finishes, he pauses before he hands the letter off to Hedwig. He and Sirius are about to travel to Sweden. According to Sirius, they are quite strict about non-native animals entering their country. Apparently wizarding Sweden set up wards to allow only native owls to deliver mail. It might be best if he leaves Hedwig with Hermione for a little while. He grabs a pen and adds a quick postscript before looking over the letter.

Love,

P.S. Please take care of Hedwig for me, since I can't

Harry nodded to himself, sealed the letter, and handed it off to Hedwig. "Here you go, girl. Stay with Hermione for the time being, at least until I get back from Sweden. Will you need me to send another message to let you know when I'm out of Sweden?"

Hedwig leveled an unimpressed stare.

"Right, of course you don't. Well, I'll see you later girl."

She gave a farewell hoot and flew off towards Hermione.
