A harrowing storm had befallen in the dawn, the violent winds controlled the sways of the rain, the dark clouds filled the atmosphere with dejection, and the mighty thunder commanded everyone's attention. This weather is not appropriate for a summer's day like this one, but it is most fitting for the macabre manor of Slenderman and his proxies.
This was the perfect weather to do soul callings, a ritual where necromancers call to the souls of the dead so they can communicate to them. Jane is going to host one today and she invited me to join her, so that's what I'm preparing for. I'm sat at my pink churrigueresque vanity doing my makeup. I decided to do a gothic eye look with heavy black eyeshadow and a touch of purple shimmer. Next I lined my lips with black, then coated my lips with purple lipstick and lipgloss. I did the rest of my makeup routine, when I was done I thought about what color hair bow to wear, pink or black? "I always do pink with no questions asked but black would match my outfit more," I softly say to myself "black it is then! I can switch it up once in a blue moon." With my decision set I clipped my bow to my side sweep hair and grabbed my bag to head out my room.
I set my eyes on gathering the items Jane said were needed for the soul calling. There were three items: three black roses, sage, and rosemary, all of which can be found in the conservatory. I stared into the window next to the grand doors of the manors main entrance, the thunderstorm still raging on. I stood there for a while entranced by the rain, but then I felt a hand caress my left shoulder followed by a familiar voice.
"Came out to gaze at the rain?" I hear Jeff say sarcastically
"Even worse, I'm going out there." I responded
"For what? To wallow in the rain like a true goth chick?" Jeff jabbed at my outfit.
It was uncommon for me to wear something like this. I wore a lace bodice and a flowy chiffon blouse with a layered lace skirt, stockings, and platform heels with black bows on the front, the lace on my top and skirt was purple and everything was in black.
"Or did you come back from the dead to haunt this place?" He questioned, resting his head on my right shoulder and holding my left hand with his.
"A bit of both" I chuckled out
"Don't you see this prime witching hour? I'm going out to hex the preps." I quipped in a parodic manner
"Heh, didn't know you were into witchcraft." Jeff said
"I'm into many things, you just haven't discovered them yet~" I tease as I turn around to face Jeff
"I gotta go, I'll see you later Jeff." I say to him, reaching into my bag to get my umbrella.
"See ya later doll." Jeff replied. He opened the door for me to exit, then I left.
I walked on the stone path leading towards the garden, the wild winds bullying me all the way there. If it weren't for the severity of the storm I could have perambulated my way there instead. I arrived at the conservatory and entered in search of the rosaceae section. I soon found the black roses and plucked three of them. I was careful to not prick myself on the razor thorns. Next were the herbs rosemary and sage, that would be in the herb garden. I made my way there and picked a few shrubs of both herbs, after I turned away to exit the herb garden back to the manor. I arrived back indoors and in the main hall I saw Jane and Nina talking with each other. I approached them and greeted them.
"Hey girls!" I exclaimed
"Dollie! How ya doing?" Nina cheered enthusiastically
"I'm alright, what's up with you?" I respond
"Me and Janey are going to do some witching tonight! It's gonna be sooo hextastic."
"Really?" I say surprised
"Are you going to do the soul calling? Jane didn't tell me you were joining in, though, it's a nice surprise." I said with a soft smile on my face
"ZOMG YESSS! The calling! I'm gonna resurrect the soul of Mary Shelley and get her to write a movie script for Frankenstein cuz these Frankenstein movies of late have been so shitty! I know Mary would do her creation justice."
"Good choice Nina" Jane chimed
"Let's go to my room, we'll talk more about the calling there." Jane said as she motioned for us to follow her up the stairs.
We follow Jane as she leads us up to her room, while walking I whisper to Nina.
"This is top secret witch stuff! We can't let any of the outliers know what we're up to, or who we're going to summon." I whisper to Nina jokingly, referring to her talking about Mary Shelley earlier.
Nina giggles "Ohhh~, I thought it was okay since you decided to go total goth on us X)" Nina jokes, trying to keep her voice down.
"If you were a real witch, you would totallyyy understand." I state with a giggle, adding a vocal fry to "totallyyy"
"Okay Dollie Trask." Nina says, rolling her eyes with a laugh.
"After you." Jane opens the door to her room, inviting us in.
"Thank you." I curtsy, then I walk in.
Nina and Jane follow with Jane locking the door shut. The adrenaline of the storm was stronger than ever and the chances of an enchanting paranormal encounter were rising by the minute.
A/N: I don't know much about witchcraft so this might be a bit inaccurate, don't take this seriously or get offended!
We all gathered in a circle around a pentagram, sitting at one of the stars points. Nina sat at water, Jane sat between fire and earth, and I sat air. Jane pull out her book of Wicca spells and placed it in front of her, flipping through the pages with anticipation. She stopped at a page that had the title of "Vocationes Animae, Spritiuum Evocatio".
"We are going to call the soul of Mirabelle Lockwell, infamously known as Miserabelle." Jane said mysteriously
"Who's that?" I questioned
"Mirabelle Lockwell is a commoner British woman from 1831 England. On one cold England storm, she found out her nobleman husband was cheating on her with her sister and she killed them both in cold blood" Jane recounted
"She started with her sister, beating her with an iron pipe then strangling her to death. Second came to fall was her husband Francis, she used a knife to brutally stabbed him to death. All the while she screamed like a banshee full of rage during both murders" Jane continued, the air in the room becoming heavy of unease.
"The last to fall was herself, and of knowing to her the unborn child in her womb. Like a madwoman she deliriously stumbled through the streets of London, head down and knees bent like a creature of the undead. People gasped and gathered in horror wondering what was wrong with her, but too frightened to approach her, in fear that she would strike them" Jane's words rang in the room like a loon's whistle, a siren alarming us eternally. She went on.
"Eventually Mirabelle made it to a cliff above a waterfall. Drenched in blood and sorrow, zombified by the weight of the world, she walked into death's arms and fell to her death. She selfishly took her last victim, her little baby girl." Jane emphasized
In that exact moment a strike of lightning rawred throughout the room and a dashing white light pierced through the window. Me and Nina jolted up as a frightened yelp slipped from our lips. Jane kept on.
"Legends say if you beckon her name during a vicious storm she will appear. If you are able to make her cry but not so distressed that she tries to kill you, she will leave behind a diamond shaped like a Prince Rupert's drop." Jane hauntingly concluded.
I hate to admit it but the story sent shivers down my spine. "It's just because of the atmosphere…" I thought, trying to reassure myself. I glanced at Nina hoping that she could relate to how I was feeling, but Nina had a sadistic grin on her face, she clearly enjoyed that story.
"Now let us commence the ritual" Jane boasts
"I hope you two have brought the items I requested, for they are needed now." Jane asked
"Of course I brought mine." Nina answered
"Yeah I got mine too." I added
"Good. Now Dollie, hand me the roses, rosemary, and sage." Jane asked
I nod and hand her the stuff. Jane arranged them in order.
"Nina, give me the black obsidian, blue kyanite, and pendant." Jane asked
Nina gave her the items and Jane arranged them in order. Now everything we had collected was neatly centered at the spirit point of the pentagram.
"Why do we need all this stuff specifically?" Nina questioned
"Each item represents something different. For example, each rose represents 100 years dead, there are three because Miserable is 300 years old" Jane answered
"The black obsidian is for spiritual clarity, so on and so forth." Jane said
"Oh okay!" Nina exclaimed
"How did she get the name Miserabelle? Is it something more than just it being similar to her real name?" I question, fascinated by Jane's retelling of the story.
"They say she haunts manors, mansions, and grand houses. You can hear her cries echoing throughout the house, her spirit brings sorrow and tragedy to the residence she haunts"
"Her name is a play on words, she's miserable, hence Miserabelle. Her actual name being Mirabelle is the cherry on top." Jane said
"interesting…" I respond
"Ya scared?" Nina mocks as she nudges me with her elbow
"Hell no! Why do you think I'm here?" I say in defense of myself
"Scaredy cat~" Nina whispers
I roll my eyes in response. Jane lit some candles up as we chattered
"Now before we start you must know something" Jane started
"There are 3 rules of soul callings: You mustn't leave the circle, you must be spiritually clear of malice intent, and you must return the soul back to its original place. Is that understood?" Jane sternly asked
"Yes." Me and Nina respond
"Okay, let us join hands." Jane beckoned her hands to us and we held them. Me and Nina also held hands.
"Repeat after me" Jane commanded
"Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Spirit, I call upon thee, bless this sacred space." we all chanted
"On night of storm we summon thee, Miserabelle answer us." we chanted twice
Lighting stuck again as we channeled the energy of Wicca. The storm was being pushed towards us, the powerful winds made Jane's window burst open, we ignored it and kept pursuing the ritual. The letters on Jane's spell book, the minerals Nina brought, and the pentagram began to glow. We continued to chant our spell until the ghost of Miserabelle emerged from the center of the pentagram, flipping Jane's book over. We all looked at her in shock and awe, Jane had a sinister grin on her face. I gasped. I'm not a necromancer like Jane, this was my first time doing Wicca or anything paranormal. The sight of Miserabelle stunned me, Nina wasn't a necromancer either but she was definitely more built for this than I was.
"Oh my god!" Nina murmured to herself
"Shh!" Jane snapped at Nina
Miserabelle was a pale young woman. Her skin was tinted with blue and her veins were visible. She had dark blue wavy hair that went down her mid back. Her makeup was gothic, she had a heavy smokey eye with dark blue shimmer and swirly parts done with eyeliner on the right side of her eye, She also had dark blue lipstick and blue blush. Her dress was white, stained with black, grey and blue. It looked to have once been a luxurious gown but now it was worn and torn with wear. Miserabelle also had on white stockings and white kitten heels.
"I-is she awake…?" I stammered
Miserabelle slowly turns to me, her eyes meeting mine. I froze in place, scared of what she might do.
"We summon you in peace!" Jane announced
Miserabelle breaks eye contact with me and fixes her gaze to the floor.
"We are here to soothe your worries, let us help you." Jane says, taking control of the situation
"Sit with us." Nina chimed
Miserabelle floats down and crosses her legs together, joining us in the circle. There's a silence for a while and the wind of the storm starts to calm.
"What is it that you want from me?" Miserabelle questions in a low tone
"We want to help you!" Nina answers
"And how will you do that…And why do you care?" Miserabelle counters
"We know you've been hurt, you can talk to us about your worries to make you feel better." Nina innocently says
Jane rolls her eyes annoyed at Nina's solution and butts in with her own rebuttal.
"I have the ability to set your soul free so you may forever rest in peace." Jane interrupted
Miserabelle looks to the right where Jane is.
"You…Can do that?" Miserabelle asks timidity
"Yes I can, but to do so you must agree to a spiritual cleansing." Jane added
The room went silent as Miserabelle pondered to herself about Jane's offer, thinking on whether to accept or reject it.
"Very well, I accept your offer." Miserabelle answered
Me and Nina both quickly looked at each other surprised at Jane's skill of communicating with her, it was obvious she was very good at this.
"Okay then, now we must stand to start the cleansing." Jane stated
Jane stood and all of us followed. Jane then reached out her arms to me and Nina and we joined hands. Miserabelle was situated in the middle of us.
"Dollie, Nina, follow my lead." Jane asked, we both nodded in response
"We are sound, we ask of thee, Free this spirit, free as can be." We chanted, and we chanted, again and again.
As we did the storm's wind entered the room again and the thunder seemed to mysteriously return. I heard the faint sound of a child giggling in the hall, I heard the child's footsteps come closer and the laughter grew louder, then I recognized who it was, it was Sally. The knowledge of Sally being right outside the door made me uncomfortable, I tried to ignore it and focus on the ritual so this could be over with.
The intensity of the cleansing was getting to Miserabelle and she began to weep. Tears of shiny diamonds slid down her cheeks and fell to the flow, the legend was true! Real diamonds were being cried! I started at the ground enamored by the dazzling jewels before my feet, Nina did too, Jane was too fixed on the cleansing. Miserabelle's cries turned into loud wails as the cleansing went on, the noise was loud enough that it could be heard by anyone next door. Sally eventually heard the crying, considering that Jane was sad Sally phased through the door to see what was going on. None of us noticed Sally entering because our backs were turned from the door, but Miserabelle wasn't. Sally and Miserabelle's eyes locked and Miserabelle gasped in disbelief.
"MY DAUGHTER!" Miserabelle cried, pointing at Sally
We all immediately whipped our heads back to look at Sally. Sally gasped in fear at the sudden shouting.
"No! She is not your daughter!" Jane shouted back
"MY BABY…" Miserabelle wailed out and continued to cry
"Leave Sally out of this! W-what the hell is wrong with you?!" I hissed at Miserabelle, tired of her delirious behavior.
"Everything is fine Miserabelle, just calm down." Jane commanded, trying to control the situation
As Jane and Nina try to calm Miserabelle down Jane motioned to me to get Sally out of there. I walked over to Sally slowly but Miserabelle took notice of this.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!" Miserabelle screamed
"GIVE HER BAAAACK!" Miserabelle screeched so loudly it broke the glass objects in the room.
And a blast of air knocked Nina and Jane down. Miserable lunged at me, tackling down to the ground to choke me. I desperately tried to get her off me, I kicked, I scratched, I bit, but nothing worked. She was a ghost so I couldn't attack or interact with her.
"SHIT! NINA GO GET BEN!" Jane shouted, Nina did as Jane asked and ran out of the room
"Stop hurting Dollie!" Sally cried, kicking and clawing at Miserabelle trying her best to save me, her attacks did in fact land but her efforts were futile. In the meantime Jane was hastily flipping through her Wicca spell book trying to find a spell that would stop Miserabelle. Jane finally found one, she grabbed the pendant from the pentagram and she began to chant.
"Arguo te spiritus, channeled by the powers that be!"
"Arguo te spiritus, I will banish thee if you do not surrender!" Jane angrily chanted
Jane held the silver pendant in front of her, she was going to banish Miserabelle's soul in there. Miserabelle began to groan in irritation of the spell she had loosened her grip on my throat. But I could barely breathe and I was going blue in the face, my vision was blurry and I was feeling lightheaded too.
At that moment Nina and Ben busted through the door, Ben immediately sprung into action and tackled Miserabelle off me. Ben and Miserabelle fought viciously, various items fell and broke as they did. Jane's spell eventually got the best of her and she shrieked as she flew out the window. Ben tried to fly after her but Jane insisted he didn't. Jane immediately ran to me, holding me up so I could catch my breath. I trembled on the floor as I gasped for air. My eyelids were becoming heavy and my vision had gone completely white, soon my body succumbed to the pain.
