Day 1 Prompt: Flowers

DRAGON PRINCE

Rayla loved flowers

Ever since she was a little girl, it was something that always caught her eye. Maybe it was because it was really the only stable thing in life, or the stark beauty against the grass was a beautiful thing. Whatever it meant, it was something that belonged to her.

Callum loved to pick flowers

Mostly for his mother and father, but he never complained if he got a few of his own. He made bouquets with his gatherings, often leaving them to shine in his bedroom window.

The next spring of Callum and Rayla meeting brought a whole field of Peony's, one of moonshadow elf's favorites. She naturally went to go admire some, not knowing that boyfriend shared some of her favorite habits. That was until he came to sit down right next to her, smiling at the beauty presented. Both in the form of his lover and the flowers. In a way, the flowers reminded him of her in almost every way.

"Do you do this every summer?" He asked, grabbing Rayla's hand.

The young elf smiled softly. "I used to, especially after my parents left. But with the whole Aaravos issue, I haven't had time to do it. Now maybe, I can."

"Their beautiful, just like you." Callum picked a nearby Peony, placing it in her hair.

Rayla giggled, leaning over to gently place a kiss on his cheek. The young prince reacted by pulling her into his lap, leaving a kiss on her soft lips.

"How did I get so lucky?" he whispered.

"Maybe you happened to be an idiotic prince who tried to defend yourself against a moonshadow assassin." Rayla ducked her head to miss a weak swing from her lover. "But then again, I don't really know. My question is how I happened to find someone like you."

"Well maybe you happened to meet an idiotic prince who tried to defend himself against you."

"Maybe…"She reached down to pick another flower, this time, trying to place it in Callum's hair. Which was about only half successful, but at least she had fun doing it.

The flowers flew through the wind, guiding their pedals towards the shining bright sun. Grass swayed from side to side, creating a space of the tranquility of a calming atmosphere. Callum picked Rayla up, leaving her to swat at him as he spun her around.

To anyone, it seemed like a normal interaction between two people who were deep in love. But to the duo, it meant so much more. For Rayla, it was a sign of comfort, that everything would turn out the way it needed to be. For when she was a little girl, it was a constant sign, something that never went away.

For Callum, it was a reminder of his mother, of whom passed on far too early. But in the end, death was not something that separated the young boy from his mother. She was in the flowers, just as Rayla constantly reminded him of it.

He saw in that moment, her smile lighting up the field. Yet in wasn't in the form of his mother, but rather in Rayla. Of whom was his entire world.

And to think that something as simple as a flower changed it all
