Chapter 1
Kagome POV
"Run, Kagome, run faster before he gets you," was all she could think. After what had just happened, she fought to not constantly look over her shoulder to make sure no one was following her through the thick, deep forest. Her legs struggled to pump harder, her lungs begged for air, and her arms were covered in cuts from the branches on the trees yet she ignored it all and kept going. She had to keep going.
"Kagome, Ka…Go…Me," cackled the sinister voice far behind her. "You're not getting away from me, I'm coming for you."
Fear clawed its way up her spine when the taunts reached her ears giving her the strength to go faster. She knew her body was on the brink of shutting down, but still, she hoped she would get to safety first.
Three hours earlier
"I'll see you in 3 weeks, Mom," yelled Kagome as she rushed out the door. She knew that she was behind schedule with getting back to the feudal era, but she had to take her exams and they had taken longer than she expected. Kagome paused at the well house doors as she looked back at her family home, reflecting on what she would decide to do with her life after the battle with Naraku. She finally didn't have to worry about school anymore seeing as this week was her final exam and school was no longer an issue.
"Inuyasha is going to be happy about that," Kagome thought with a smile. No more school means no more long periods of time at home. She would miss some things about that but she was happy to be done with the stress of it all.
There was no reason to think about college seeing as she missed so much school to begin with and didn't have the grades for it. It wasn't something she was ashamed of but it was an expectation in this era so it was a little hard not to feel guilty. Kagome shook her head to clear her thoughts.
She walked in the well house, grabbed the edge of the worn wood, put her legs over the edge and jumped in ready to be where she was truly happy.
"I'm back," yelled Kagome, from the bottom of the well. "That's strange. Inuyasha is normally already here when I'm running late,"she spoke aloud.
She grabbed a vine in front of her and started to climb up. When she reached the top she threw her bag over and pulled herself up. "Whew, that's always a workout."
Kagome looked around the clearing for her friends. It was quiet, too quiet. No birds or insects or anything made a sound, even the wind was still.
Cautiously, she bent down to pick her bag up when suddenly a purple and black mist started to spill from the trees all around her.
Kagome's back straightened like a rod, panic filled her. She felt an ominous, powerful presence that dripped with evil coming towards her. Fast.
As she went to turn and run, something sharp pierced her shoulder.
"Argh," Kagome screamed, in pain.
Before she could do anything to protect herself, she was tossed in the air and landed hard on her back. The air was forced from her lungs and pain seared its way across her skull as it hit a rock with a sickening crunch.
Ignoring the pain, she picked herself up and turned toward where the attack came from.
A tall, dark and menacing figure stood shrouded in shadow just inside the tree line. The only features she could make out were his blood red eyes that shone like rubies. Their depths felt suffocating and like you could lose your very soul inside them. The eyes stared at her with mirth dancing in them, happy with her fear.
As Kagome scooted back in fright as the figure snarled; revealing sharp, white teeth.
Slowly the shadowed man started moving towards her.
Kagome whimpered as she tried to quickly get to her feet but with the damage to her shoulder and the splitting headache she got from hitting her head, her movements were slow.
The black and purple mists reached Kagome and began crawling up her ankles. Adrenaline coursed through her body giving her energy to sprint into the forest and away from here.
Present Time
Twigs snapped under foot as she ran, hot tears streamed down her face. She had never been more scared and no one was here to help her. It was becoming very apparent that she might not make it out of this.
She had no sense of how long she had been going but knew she wouldn't be able to go much longer. Blood covered her body as it dripped from her head and shoulder. Various cuts from running and falling added to the red stains. She kept falling more from not just exhaustion but from the darkness that now covered the land.
Her heart pounded in her ears but she was quickly realizing that it was the only sound she could hear anymore.
Moonlight peaked through the trees, shining a safe path for Kagome as she ran. Ahead of her she saw a spot where the moonlight glowed brighter she felt it was a beacon of hope and pushed herself to get to it.
The trees started to lessen then suddenly she was in a small clearing at the edge of a cliff.
Kagome wheezed and gasped for air as she was forced to stop and catch her breath. As soon as she could move again she approached the edge. Looking down she saw a rushing waterfall that glittered in the moonlight. Such a view would have made her happy in different circumstances.
Before she could even process anything further she heard a sound behind her.
She wasn't even able to scream as a mighty dark force pushed her over the edge.
As she plummeted to the raging waters below the moon taunted Kagome. She envied its safety and beauty. It was a nice last view to have as she fell into darkness.
Else where in the Western Lands
Sesshomaru POV
Walking in the forest of his family's sacred lands, the great daiyoukai of the west, Lord Sesshomaru turned his head into the wind when a scent reached him. The scent in the air was familiar. But why was she alone this far into the west and his brother's scent nowhere near?
"Come Jaken, Rin, " Sesshomaru said as he took to the sky in the direction that he could smell her.
As he grew closer the sound of water grew louder. He defended then walked closer to the water's edge. There he saw her barely on the bank. She was surrounded in red water, she looked near death.
"My Lord, is that the Miko who travels with your brother?" Rin asked, from beside her Lord. "She is hurt." The small girl stepped closer and bent down to get a better look.
Jaken's high pitched squak filled the air. "Foolish girl! Get away from there!"
"But master Jaken, she is hurt badly,"cried Rin as she pushed Kagome's dark hair out of her face. "She helped Rin many times, she was always very kind, she gave Rin sweets and would play with me."
" My lord, what will we do? " asked Rin as she looked at her lord with sad eyes.
"We leave her," said Sesshomaru as he turned to walk away.
When Rin did not follow he stopped. She had never disobeyed him before. He turned around and found her holding the mikos hand.
Rin looked at him and then at Kagome then back at him. "Please my Lord, please save her, she always looked out for Rin when she needed her. She treated Rin with kindness. Rin cannot leave her behind," the small child begged.
Sesshomaru watched his ward bend into a bow and beg. She had never asked for anything like this. The miko obviously meant a lot to her.
Decision made he walked toward his ward and bent down. Rin beamed happily and helped Seshomaru gather the broken woman into his arm.
Once she was settled on his person he began walking away again with Rin following behind him closely.
"Wait, my Lord, you cannot sully yourself with your brother's wench. Where are you taking it?" Jaken screeched, following closely behind.
"Home, " Sesshomaru said as he walked toward his palace.
