Prologue
The forest is getting too small. Solar Song thought. Every time leaf bare came around cats would starve. We have to find more prey. There's only one solution . Solar Song gathered his campmates. "We all know the forest is getting too small." He said. "There is only one solution, we must leave for a bigger forest." Nervous meows came from the cats gathered around him. "Prepare for the journey as much as you can, hunt as much as possible, and rest for the journey."
"But I don't want to go!" A cat named Lunar Stream said. "This place has been my home for as long as I can remember!"
"Countless cats said the same, but they all starved instead of leaving Lunar Stream." Solar Song replied calmly. It seemed to frighten Lunar Stream, and he did not reply. "We shall leave at the next full moon!" Solar Song announced. As soon as Solar Song finished, cats began to go hunting to prepare for the great journey into the unknown. But the leaf bare cold sent most of the prey back into the burrows. Solar Song sighed and went back to his den to get some rest. I hope I'm making the right decision.
Chapter 1
Ragged Peak woke up in his nest to find he was the only one in camp.
"Where is everyone?" he muttered to himself. Then he remembered what Solar Song had said, and remembered that the moon was almost full earlier. He got up from his nest and decided he should go hunting. He was only 4 moons old but his mother White Feather taught him how to do a hunter's crouch. And so he went out into the snow covered forest and tasted the air for any prey scent. Ragged Peak didn't really want to leave his home but his paws were tingling at the thought of exploring the unknown. As soon as he got out he smelled a mouse. He dropped low into the crouch White Feather taught him, and stalked towards it. He kept going until he could see it. He got as close as he could, and then pounced! It tried to dartaway, but Ragged Peak was too fast and killed it with a bite to its neck. Ragged Peak was so hungry, he couldn't wait to get back to camp to eat it. So he started munching on its stringy flesh whilst sitting in the soft cold snow. He finished it off in a few mouthfuls and only then did he realize how skinny it was. I'm gonna need a few more of those, he thought. When Ragged Peak padded into camp he saw almost every cat was back from hunting and the fresh kill pile had a couple more mice and voles.
"Did you have a successful hunting trip?" A cat named Rose Wing asked.
"No." Ragged Peak lied, "caught nothing."
Oh Rose Wing meowed Sounding disappointed. "I was just hoping i could have something before i kit but everyone already took something off the fresh kill pile and there's nothing left.
"Oh, i'm sorry" Ragged Peak meowed. Feeling terrible he padded over to his nest, curled up and drifted into sleep.
Ragged woke to find himself in a lush green forest that didn't look familiar.
"Ragged Peak." A voice said behind him.
"What?" "Who are you?" he yowled, jumping around startled. He came face to face with a starry looking blue cat.
"In a new home, one will become two, and a third shall be found." The cat said.
"What does that mean?" He yowled, but soon the forest faded, and he was back in his nest. I have to go tell Solar Song, he'll know what it means, He thought to himself. He padded out of the den and started to Solar Songs den."Solar Song!" He yowled.
"What is it?" Solar Song asked drowsily.
"I had a dream." Ragged Peak said. "A cat spoke to me and said, "in a new home, one will become two, and a third shall be found." Do you know what it could mean?"
"I don't." Solar Song shook his head. "Tomorrow is the full moon. You should stop worrying about silly dreams and go hunt for your campmates."
"Okay Solar Song" Ragged Peak sighed and went out to go hunt.
He came back with a frail shrew and brought it to Rose Wing to eat.
"Thanks Ragged Peak." Rose Wing Meowed and took a bite and gave the rest to Ragged Peak.
"Why don't you want the rest Rose Wing?" Ragged Peak asked.
"I'm just not hungry I guess." she replied.
Ragged Peak ate the rest and went over to Solar Song.
"I think somethings wrong with Rose Wing." He Mewed.
"What do you mean?" "She looks skinny but we all are." Solar Song said.
"Well I gave her a mouse but she only took one bite and said she wasn't hungry."
"I'm sure she's fine" Solar Song Meowed "she's just leaving it for the rest of us."
"Okay Solar Song." Ragged Peak meowed, but he still felt worried. He didn't see how she acted. Ragged Peak decided to go back to his den, where he found Amber Moon. "Hi Amber Moon."
"Hello." She said back. She sounded like she was feeling down. Probably from having to move from the forest tomorrow. She walked past him, and left the camp. Ragged Peak decided he should lay down and sleep until tomorrow and slowly fell asleep
The next morning he woke up to find everyone else out of their dens gathered at the entrance to the forest he padded over to the crowd of cats to hear what Solar Song was saying.
"As soon as everyone gathers we shall leave." Solar Song meowed. The air seemed tense with anticipation. Ragged Peak realised that only Amber Moon was missing, and remembered seeing her leave last night. He decided not to say that he saw her leave, but soon it was already sunhigh.
"Solar Song." Ragged Peak meowed. He could feel all the pairs of eyes turn to him.
"Yes?" Solar Song meowed.
"I remember seeing Amber Moon leave the camp last night, she didn't seem like she was in a good mood." Ragged Peak meowed
"She might have left to join the Twolegs." Lunar stream put in "Very well."Solar Song Meowed. "We shall leave now."
