When Simon gets a call from an old friend back home for help he agrees- somebody needs help, that's all he needs to know. Raphael's less sure. He's the only one of the group who knows just how hard growing up was for Simon and he doesn't want him to have to face all that alone. Raphael, Alec and Magnus go to help him out. That's good- he's gonna need all the help he can get.

Demonic activity is on the rise and Shadowhunters across the globe have been working past the point of exhaustion to bring the problem under control. Lust, Alec had learnt to know, could be a powerful thing. It took over your body, clouding your judgment and your mind, turning you into a powerless witness to your own desires. With time, he had also learnt that lust and love could sometimes be two very different things, not necessarily linked together. This was not one of those times.

After Magnus breaks up with Alec and chooses to align with the Seelie Queen, pulling the Downworld Cabinet with him, Alec is arrested by the Clave for high treason. Will Magnus find out in time to save him from a death sentence?
