Chapter 4: "Antiviral"
Jason, runs, jumps, and glides till he reaches the his target in the financial district.
Having consumed Patrick Koehler PHD on the way, revealing that the virus was acting differently from others noted.
Anyway, Jason lands on a taller building, overlooking a helicopter surrounded by only Blackwatch soldiers.
'Any compromise here would be bad, I need to stealth consume the lot of them', Jason thinks as he overviews the situation. He takes on a blackwatch appearance and made his way to the roof the soldiers were on.
In the process, he stealth consumed Web Target PFC Timothy Lamons, revealing information about super soldiers to do close combat with Jason. 'is that the weapon against me or that red stuff?', Jason thinks to himself.
After the consuming, he boards the helicopter to fly. 'Alright, just need to assist them till I'm called back to base', Jason thought before flying the copter to the assigned location to evacue military units.
He lands on a roof where Greenwich, SoHo, and Little Italy meet. Blackwatch soldiers soon bard the copter Jason is piloting.
"Move! Go, go, go!", one commands as his men board, "Good to go". And Jason lifts into the air again.
The next orders he had to follow, was to destroy the SoHo Hive. He stayed high enough so the Hunters and other infected couldn't reach him and the soldiers as he fired on the Hive, soon destroying it.
"This is a target rich environment. Help the ground forces with the marked targets", Red Crown orders.
"Confirmed Red Crown. I'm on it", Jason confirms as his military form, before firing on the marked infected, helping ground troops. Though it was kind of hard trying NOT to hit the soldiers and tanks.
Once that was done, he lands the copter in the street before the destroyed Hive, deploying the unit of soldiers he had picked up before hand.
"Requesting urgent assistance from all available units", Red Crown. calls over the radio.
'Ok, got to play along', "Roger HQ, enroute now", Jason replies before flying his helicopter to the new marked area.
It was a warzone as Jason lands between the troops, only for Hydras to suddenly emerge, causing Jason to immediately raise the copter and fire on the three Hydras. Staying high enough to avoid most of their throwing attacks, but close enough so they didn't hide in the ground.
More kept spawning in as Jason flew around the area, making Jason realize how hard it is to fight the infect like this, since he couldn't let them destroy this helicopter.
" Thanks Ghost12, we're good here", one calls in to Jason once all Hydras in the area were terminated, with Jason now landing the copter for the troops. Many of whom celebrated as they boarded.
"Air support! If anyone can hear me on this line, we need artillery support, NOW!", some men called in with marked locations near each other.
Jason quickly flies to the location in west Greenwich and picks up the troops being swarmed on all sides. Some died to the infected before they could board. there was no time to fight, only to rescue the soldiers that he could before vacating the area.
"Ghost12, priority one, on your Nav now. Out", Red Crown calls in for Jason to fly to HQ
"Roger. Enroute", Jason replies before flying to base, passing by the USS Reagan.
Once there, Jason disembarks with the others for the special briefing.
Black Watch HQ, Red Crown Command
Jason enters in full blackwatch appearance as a commander was giving the debrief.
"Substance A-113A, which we call Bloodtox due to its odd coloration, is a poison which only affects the Blacklight Virus", The commander informs, Jason listening attentively, "We'll cover the city in it to stop the spread of the virus and kill all infected with it", not good for Jason and those who haven't become monsters, "For humans, its completely harmless. So harmless in fact, that you've been breathing it since you entered this room."
Jason then starts coughing a fit and leaves, drawing the other soldiers' attention.
"Hold it! Halt! HALT!", one calls out with his AR aimed at Jason as he runs from the room. Jason stumbles into a bigger hanger as he's surrounded.
'Oh, that's not good', Jason refers to both the Bloodtox and the soldiers. He takes his armored form, not safe from Bloodtox but from the soldiers, and begins consuming the soldiers as fast as possible to regenerate quicker so the Bloodtox in the air doesn't kill him.
Once he kills all of the foot soldiers in the area, one of those super soldiers drops in. He attacks Jason in hand to hand while more basic Blackwatch soldiers appear in the area to help him against Jason. Jason uses his Blade to kill the Super Soldier after escaping his grab, then consumed the other soldiers.
Just then, two gates open and a many more soldiers and 4 more super soldiers appear.
Seeing no choice, Jason risked a Tendril Barrage Devastator on them, his vitality draining more from the Bloodtox. But it killed all of them, including the Super Soldiers.
He then leaves the building, overhearing orders from his radio on how Bloodtox being effective against him.
"Gotta get out of here", Jason says before vacating the base as it's soldiers fired on him.
Once he was safe, Jason took a moment, 'Bloodtox is the weapon , that red stuff from all those memories. The super soldiers are just to make sure I can't run away'.
Back at Blackwatch HQ, Red Crown Command
"General Randall", a voice sounds out from the entrance.
"Who's there?", Randall demands, his only hand at the ready to draw his firearm only to see Superman. "Ah... the Last Son of Krypton finally decides to grace me with his presence", he asked the boy in blue.
"I need to know more about the virus before the League can intervene in this crisis, General", Superman inquires of the General.
Randall rubs his chin for a moment before sharing, "The Blacklight Virus enters, re-purposes and changes the cell. The new cell replicates with formerly dormant non-encoding regions active, causing drastic biological changes. Being bitten or scratch by an infected can cause one to become infected, along with exposure to certain infected materials. Of course, there's also bodily fluids and injections". He then looks into Superman's eyes, "The government has agreed the League shouldn't get involved
"Why not?", Superman asks with his arms crossed.
"This virus is more dangerous than any other. We don't want to risk you or any other meta getting infected. Imagine the horror that could happen from someone with flight or super speed, spreading the virus beyond what can be contained like what we have now.", Randall answers, 'I also don't need the more investigative of you discovering our secrets', "We are working on a direct attack against the virus. Once all this is over, you and your League can offer relief aids".
Superman remains silent before speeding away. General goes to work on the next phase.
Day 12 of Infection: 81% Total Population Infected
Due to the Bloodtox, Jason now had to be more careful when approaching Military Bases.
However, he took the time to consume 1st Lt Jason Moss, LCpl Micheal Rossiter, Charles Messina Phd, Dr. Henrik Sebring, and Dr Kendrick Chua.
Moss revealed failure at the stadium. Rossiter's memories showed him betting on a bunch of Missiles pointed at the city. Messina talked about how the test in Hope was to prepare them but New York wasn't following the same patterns, with more surviving. Sabring revealed Greene's activities from Hope to NY. Chua talked about keeping quiet about what else Gentek might have besides Greene.
Once he completed this, Jason raced back to the same payphone from earlier to contact his Contact.
Once Jason was there, he grabs the cellphone from under the payphone and answers.
"Hood", the Contact greets, "Right now Blackwatch's only motivation is fielding the Bloodtox weapon as far and wide as possible. They're already moving to blanket the island with it, and once they have you boxed in, they'll move in for the kill. You need to break their grip on southern Manhattan before they can expand their coverage radius".
"Who the hell is this?", Jason demands, but the contact had hung up, so Jason tossed the phone away, 'starting to hate this guy, but he's giving me info, could get me mcMullen too.
'Alright, so Bloodtox breaks down anything infected with the virus. Dispersed through the air, it's like a modern day Agent Orange', Jason thinks as he heads for the Bloodtox staging area a few blocks away, 'I need to halt its deployment if I don't want to die.'.
Arriving on a distant roof, he sees a contraption on another roof with three ports that was releasing Bloodtox in great amounts.
'I'll get pinned down as these spread the Bloodtox, need to destroy the blowers', Jason thinks before getting in and destroying the first Bloodtox Blower.
This drew Blacktach's attention as Jason moved onto the next Blower on the street nearby. One by one, Jason destroyed the Blowers on the roofs and in the streets. With Blackwatch throwing everything Jason has encountered to stop him, the biggest pain being the Super soldiers.
Jason consumes soldiers and other infected as he ran between the blowers to recover from the Bloodtox some. He used the Blade Air Slice to one-shot the devices till all nine were destroyed. Once he was done, Jason ran from the area to recover.
He then ran into another Web Target, Dr. Sean Grier, and consumed him. Grier's memories talked about Bloodtox, doubling down on the fact that it shouldn't effect humans at all.
Later, Jason consumed Arthur Osborne, who revealed a recording of a meeting between Karen Parker and Alex Mercer, discussing the truth.
He then consumes Dr James Whitney, revealing that they would take Greene's blood and use it to cure or incite any illness known to man.
Jason then headed back to the Contact's Phone Booth for more information.
He grabs another cellphone from the payphone
"This disease is smart.", the Contact informs, "When they hit it with Bloodtox, it went underground, literally. It's been massing there, preparing to subsume the city. You need to make sure the bloodtox pumper vehicle gets to Times Square, when the supplies of the Bloodtox arrive, pump the stuff underground, drive it out into the light. Without your help... that machine won't get within a mile of Times Square.", the call ends.
'So, use Bloodtox to drive Greene out into the open', Jason thinks before heading for the facility
Jason soon arrives at the Bloodtox Facility in Harlem. He assumes the form of a soldier and heads into the area. However, the place is brimming with Bloodtox in the air, so trying to be stealthy will be a problem. Luckily for him, the Base Commander was just outside of the Bloodtox fog and quickly stealth consumed, he then headed to start the convoy for Times Square.
"Ok, people, get your shit together and move out. Let's get this thing to Times Square, NOW!", Jason orders as the commander. Once everything was prepped, Jason boarded a tank and headed south with the Bloodtox Pump.
The other tanks dealt with the Walkers as Jason drove his alongside the Pump truck. They got a few blocks in before a Hydra appears. Jason wasted no time in destroying with his tak, clearing the path for the pump.
They continued the line, even as another Hydra appears in a park to the right, Jason shot it down quick as the rest keep going. Half way through the Upper West Side, two more Hydras spawn in the middle of the road, Jason and the four other tanks open fire. After their defeat, the convoy regroups and moves out.
They turn left and head for Central Park. Another Hydra appears, just before the entrance into the park, but it was lightwork by this point.
Driving through Central Park, however, was no walk in the park. With no buildings in the way, a shit ton of Hydras attack, with Jason and the other tanks fighting them off with some Aerial support. They won the battle, but the pump was damaged, should still be able to do it's job though.
Four more Hydras appeared as they arrive at the north end of Times Square. The tanks acted like a shield against them as they fired upon the giant tentacle like creatures.
Once that was done, the Bloodtox Pump was parked in the center of Times Square and the mission was complete. Till the next phase at least. He only has to active the pump.
However, he had discovered Karen Parker's current location, and he couldn't let that go. He quickly ran to the location in the north of Harlem. Funny enough, it was right next to the Bloodtox facility, in a building just east of it.
Karen parker is working in her other lab when a Blackwatch soldier appears, "We've been compromised, Red Hood knows your here, we're evacuating", grabbing her arm and leading her to the elevator.
"Oj, jesus", she says in distress. They enter the elevator, "You know what he can do", she tells the soldier, "Oh Goddammit. He'll kill me". Suddenly the elevator stopped and went dark. "Oh god. Oh, my god, he's here", she cries in despair, "He's in the building!".
"I know", Jason says, revealing that he is the soldier and killing her with his claws. He doesn't even want to try and consume a traitor like her. Once she fell dead, he left the building and made his way back to Times Square.
On the way to and from Parker's location, he has consumed some more Web Targets. Dr Mark Katsaounis, who talked about how the parasite used on Jason could backfire, but McMullen was to stupid or reckless to consider that. Consuming Dr Gary Langkabel gave him info abut how hope was infected with 99.999 survivability and how it was covered up. Scoot Woodfords mind reveals a recorded conversation between Raglan and McMullen, Ragland said he told them not to bring Blacklight into the city, McMullen dismisses it as Ragland is as culpable as them. Paul Evans' memories showed Jason how willful the people of Hope were to be injected, not knowing what would happen. Dr. Stanley Washington's memories showed a conversation with Alex Mercer, about keeping them in check.
Now back in Times Square, with Blackwatch having erected walls to protect the area, Jason took on a commander form for the authority to activate the pump.
'Okay, let's see if the bitch appears', Jason thinks as he activates the pump. The Bloodtox was soon pushed underground, with the ground shaking as if they it was a temor.
"We got seismic activity in your area. Looks like you got their attention. Stand by", Blackwatch HQ informs through the radio, "Nothing nearby. They must be coming subsurface."
Suddenly, Hunters burst out of the ground, just outside the perimeter.
'It's working. I need to protect the pump from them till has no choice but to come up herself", Jason thinks. Since it would be a pain in the ass to continue to hide, Jason took on his Armored form and unleashed his Blade.
Blackwatch didn't seem to care he appeared as he joined the fight against the Hunters, slicing them up one by one. Jason had to be careful not to hit the pumper as the Hunters practically ignored him to focus on destroying it.
Once he finished this pack of Hunters, five more rose from the south of the perimeter. Instead of letting them come to him, he went to them, as to avoid the pump being damaged in the crossfire.
After dealing with them, Blackwatch finely decided to deal with his presence, with some men dropping from a copter. Jason ignored them as three more Hunters run in from the east, which also caused them to focus fire on the Hunters
'So they'll leave me alone if there's a common enemy?', Jason notes, 'Or just for this mission?'.
A Leader also appears to attack the pump, with Jason focusing on the beast before it could call in more Hunters. It eventually falls dead after Jason did some Air Slices on it.
Just then, even more hunters pop up from the west, "Fuck sakes Greene, just come out here already!", Jason was getting sick of this game.
Series of Blade attacks and frenzies were done to deal with the onslaught of Hunters and their Leader, cutting left and right before the last beast fell.
This was when Blackwatch reinforcements appear, with Super soldiers in tow. After a little tussle with them, Two Leaders run in from east and west, while two hydras spawned to the north and south.
Jason wasted no time cutting into the Leaders while they focused on destroying the Bloodtox Pumper. Once he bisected the last of the heavy tank monsters, Jason focused on the two object-throwing, talon-mouth tentacles. These creatures were to big and compursome to focus on him in a close distance. Once they were defeated, he overheard talk from the radio.
"Outstanding, outstanding!", Blackwatch HQ comments, "Tank is drained and position is secured. Looks like the deployment is a success. Standby for new orders.".
A massive flesh creature sprouts from the ground.
"What the fuck is that?", Jason asks himself, he spots a woman's figure attached to the monstrosity, "Greene? Elizabeth Greene? What happened to her?".
It roars and unleashed a viral wave all around it, killing all of the Blackwatch in the area. Jason goes in for the attack but is warded off by one of three massive tentacles, along with Hunters. backing a way some to deal with the Hunters, she would then launch these weird green energy balls at him.
He then used the Groundspike Graveyard Devastator to take out the Hunters and the Tentacles. Causing the main body to fall, and Greene's body to be exposed, allowing Jason to attack her. After few slices, the bigger body retreated back under ground, leaving Jason with the Hunters and Walkers.
Jason dealt with some of them before she re-emerged, having recuperated some, with Blackwatch forces now returning to the scene with tanks. The Mother released another viral wave, destroying some of the tanks while Jason prepares another devastator.
This time, she had Hydras surrounding the main body to protect her. Going up high via a nearby building to avoid the green blasts, Jason jumped above her, which was hard with the armor, and came down quickly for another Groundspike Graveyard, it didn't do as much damage though and she released another viral wave. Since he had spare Critical Mass, he went in for another Graveyard.
However, she released a viral wave as he neared and canceled it out, sending him flying even in his armor.
Gaining some distance, he would then consume some more infected to rebuild his vitality and Critical Mass for another devastator, since getting in close is near impossible with all of her protection.
He then went over another building to drop another Groundspike Graveyard, defeating her attached tentacles.
She soon fell before him and he then unleashes a Critical Pain Devastator on her true body. Knocking her health down a considerable amount, but it was't enough to defeat her, as she retreated once more.
Jason defeated and consumed other infected in Times Square before she burst out. he did the tentacle Barrage Devastator this time and took out all of her defending tentacles in one go. She was left open to attack once more, and once more Jason did a Critical Pain, defeating the monstrous Greene.
Soon after, Greene falls from her abomination in her regular form. Jason stalking in close to her, its just them in Time Square.
"Greene", Jason growls. Before grabbing her up by her neck and slamming her into the ground before pummeling her as he then consumes her.
Seeing Hope, Idaho from her eyes was disturbing. Watching as everyone she knew suffered the virus as the Blackwatch swarmed around and took her away, to her laying with her legs spread on a table in a hospital, before a hand with a clever appeared.
When Jason came back to reality, something was wrong. It felt like his body was splitting apart. Every cell splitting in half like mitosis, but feeling the pain of it.
"ARGH!", he screams before being completely covered by the red-black aura and a person fell away from Jason's body. Jason fell to his knees in his base form to catch his breath as the aura dissipated while the other laid on the ground, woozy from the fall.
Jason gets up to his feet and looks at the person that just came from him, he saw it was a woman before looking her in the face, "Greene? But I just...".
The woman that spawned from him was, in fact, Elizabeth Greene. But she was... different. Gone was the Gentek issued bodysuit, replaced with a sheer white sundress. Gone was the ugly choppy hair done by scientists for the experiments, replaced with long and flowing copper hair. Though, she was still barefoot.
"I... What's going on? Where am I?", she says, but without the demonic echo that Jason was used to.
"You're in Times Square... In New York", Jason replies, suspicious of her behavior.
"Not... not in Gentek?", she asked him.
"No, I freed you from there. Remember?", Jason tells her, preparing to summon his claws should she act out.
"I...", she stammers and grabs her head as she laid there, "I can remember but I couldn't control myself. Then I... oh god", she cries.
It was then Jason realized, this wasn't the woman behind all of this, this wasn't Mother. This was just Elizabeth Greene.
"Look, we need to get out of here before Blackwatch shows up", Jason tells, offering his hand to help her up.
"I... Yes", she states before accepting his hand and getting to her feet.
"Can you keep up?", Jason asks Elizabeth.
"I should be able to", she replies.
Jason nods to her before racing up a wall, to which she was able to do, following close behind him, before they both glide away.
They eventually stop on a roof in a grey zone, neither Infected nor military protected.
Jason turns to Elizabeth, "Greene, is it possible for you to fix this?", looking her in the eyes.
She remains silent, holding onto herself, "When it comes to the freshly infected I can cure them, along with developing a vaccine so no one else can be infected. But when it comes to the mutated or like us, they are beyond help. I... I don't think I can even control them like I did before", she responds.
"Hmm, then you should get to work on curing the infected that haven't changed along with the vaccine, I can deal with the others", Jason tells her.
Suddenly, commands sounded from the military radio signal Jason listens in on, "This is Red Crown Command. Code Black in progress. All units fall back. Countdown to Fire Break has begun. I repeat, all units fall back to immediate evac."
The duo look at eachother with worry in their eyes, they both knew there was only one reason for Blackwatch to pull out of Manhattan. They were going to purge the entire island. Infected or not, a nuke will drop here.
They needed to act fast.
Chapter End
AN: This is where I starts changing the timeline/story some more. I kind of always felt bad for Elizabeth Greene, so I kept her in with a new role.
I'm sorry if the Superman scene felt off. I was trying to place a timeline with who among the League that could safely meet with the General while following my plot basd reason for them not showing up for now. Don't worry, Jason will meet with his old allies post nuke before we move on to other avenues in the story.
Next chapter will be the end of the first Prototype game with some new developments.
