Ash was thinking of which Pokémon to use against the Wattrel.

It was a wild Wattrel, so he didn't want to push it too much.

But before he could make a choice, Sprigatito came out of her poke ball unannounced.

Before he could do anything, Sprigatito flew into battle with Bite.

The Wattrel responded with Spark clashing with Sprigatito.

The two of them exchanged Quick Attacks with each other, because of Sprigatito's protean ability, she was able to overpower Wattrel.

Wattrel attacked with Pluck, which Sprigatito was able to dodge.

Sprigatito landed a final Seed Bomb, defeating Wattrel.

The Wattrel immediately got to his feet, staring at Ash and Sprigatito.

The Wattrel seemed adamant about following Ash.

Ash could understand what Wattrel wanted.

"You want me to catch you, don't you?"

Wattrel nodded.

Ash didn't catch Pokémon often, but if one was asking for it, how could he say no?

Ash threw the poke ball out of his bag, catching the Wattrel in one go.

Ash had caught his second Paldea Pokémon.

"Alright, Iglesias, aim over here!" Florian yelled.

Fuecoco lazily turned and fired an Ember at Florian.

"No, I need you to go faster, you can't hit opponents like that."

Despite his words of encouragement, Fuecoco didn't pick up the pace.

"Alambre, get over here and show him how it's done?"

Spidops wandered over and tapped Fuecoco on the head.

Spidops moved quickly, striking around Florian with Bug Bite.

That seemed to inspire Fuecoco, who began throwing out Embers at a rapid pace.

Fuecoco was using Ember so much that it combined into a fireball, which it launched at Florian.

He was incredibly thrilled that Fuecoco had just learned Incinerate.

Unfortunately, he refused to stop and kept launching Incinerate at Florian.

Florian ran around trying to put out the fires that Fuecoco was starting.

"Smollll!" a wild Smoliv ran by its leaf on fire from Fuecoco.

In a panic, Florian grabbed Fuecoco's poke ball so he wouldn't cause more damage.

He didn't see the Smoliv bump into another one of his poke balls.

Wonderful, his third team member, was caught completely by accident.

"Well, it's not the worst thing I could ask for," Florian tried to stay positive. "Maybe she doesn't even want to be captured," he let the Smoliv out to see what her opinion was.

Smoliv passed out as soon as she was out of the Poké Ball.

Wonderful.

"Hey, uh." Florian awkwardly rubbed his shoulder. "Would you like me to let you go? You don't have to stay"

The Smoliv panicked and hid behind Spidops.

Looked like she was here to stay.

"Aceituna, I think that's a good nickname."

"Smolll" Aceituna nodded in exhaustion.

So that's how I got the Smoliv. Florian sent Julianna a photo of a very nervous Smoliv next to his Spidops and Fuecoco.

Julianna pocketed her phone as she walked into her parents' house.

It was the first time she had seen her parents since starting school. She was happy to see them, even if they had made more food for her than she could possibly eat.

"They're adorable," they both agreed when they were introduced to Quaxly and Wooper.

Quaxly was already exploring the house as if he owned the place. Wooper stood by Julianna's parents politely.

Julianna couldn't help but notice the house was littered with burn marks, some of which looked very recent.

"Can I ask where all these burn marks came from?"

"Um, well," her mother replied sheepishly.

"It was feeling pretty lonely here without you," her father explained, "so your mother bought this egg someone was selling. Without telling me," He added.

"Well, the egg hatched, and he's been running around burning the house up."

"Wait, what exactly hatched from the egg?"

A Charcadet came running around the corner answering her question.

Quaxly walked over to the Charcadet and struck a dramatic pose.

Unimpressed, the Charcadet struck an even more dramatic pose.

Quaxly, insulted by the Charcadet's blatant disrespect, threw himself at the Charcadet, and the two started fighting.

Annoyed at their antics, Wooper walked over and slapped the two of them with her tail.

"We were kind of hoping that you could take him with you," her mother pleaded.

Julianna sighed. She did need another Pokémon for her gym battle against Brassius, she was going to do that when she left her parents' house.

It was nice of her parents to give her a Pokémon, but it had an attitude problem and didn't like to listen to people.

But it was her parents, and she couldn't say no to them.

"I'll take him, I do need a fire-type."

"Oh, my goodness, thank you," her father sighed, "we didn't know what we were gonna do with him."

"Yes, yes, we were gonna give him to a daycare, but we are so happy to know he's going to our daughters' teams."

Julianna looked at Charcadet and Quaxly striking poses at each other, as Wooper watched them, annoyed.

She already had a nickname in mind for him.

"Rebelde, that's a good name."

…

The next day, Julianna was at Artazon at the crack of dawn.

She thought she would be the first one at the gym.

Unfortunately, she saw that a battle was already taking place.

It was already over with a final Aerial Ace, Rinto's Honedge knocked out Sudowoodo.

Of course, Julianna was beaten here by someone.

And he won with just Honedge and Dewott, he didn't even need to use Gallade.

"Oh, hey Julianna, good to see you here," Rinto waved when he got out of the gym.

"Ya didn't expect to see you here"

"Well, I think you're the first one here other than me."

"Well, I've got to get going, don't want to be late for my battle."

Julianna rushed off into the waiting area.

She needed to keep pushing forward if she wanted to get ahead.
