Batter Up!
Later after Pokemon School, Lincoln brought Lynn to Route 1 to help her get a start on training her Pokemon, with their cousins and friends coming along to watch.
"Ready to get started, Lynn?' asked Lincoln.
"You bet I am, bro!" said Lynn Jr. After Lincoln gives Lynn a refresher on how to battle with her Pokemon, they got started.
They spent a good part of the afternoon having Lynn's Pokemon battle the wild ones found on Route 1. During that training, Lynn's Crabrawler learned Bubble Beam, her Makuhita learned Fake Out and Force Palm, her Hawlucha learned Aerial Ace, and her Machop learned Seismic Toss and Revenge.
"Wow, Lynn's doing pretty good for a beginner." said Mallow.
"Must've paid attention to all of Lincoln's battles." said Sophocles.
"Still can't believe that she mailed herself here just to be in the Pokemon Battle Royale Tournament." said Kiawe.
After Lynn got enough training for the day, they all head over to the Poke Pelago to get more Poke Beans to help with development. Also, while they were on Route 1, Lincoln caught a Bonsly, and a Munchlax.
Once it started to get dark, they all decide to head back to their homes/lodgings. After Lincoln and Lynn had dinner, they spent the rest of the night watching TV; it was while doing that that Lynn saw something else about Alola that interested her.
"You have baseball here?" asked Lynn as she watches a baseball game on TV, but even though the catcher and umpire were humans; the batter was in fact a Gyarados.
"Actually, this is PokeBase." said Hau.
"It's like baseball back where you're from, but you play it alongside Pokemon." explained Kahuna Hala.
"This place gets cooler and cooler!" said Lynn Jr. They all watch as the Gyarados hits a pitch with its tail and sends it flying to the wall while it crawls all the way to second base. Next up at bat was a human who was the star of the Magikarps, the team that was up at bat right now, a man with brown hair named Oluolu. The pitcher for the other team, a large yellow humanoid Pokemon with yellow stripes, and two antennae on its head that was on the pitcher's mound throws a baseball towards Oluolu who swings his bat and connects, hitting it out of the park, winning the game. Once it was over, everyone just heads to bed.
The next morning at the Pokemon School, everyone was hanging out with each other before Professor Kukui enters the room and has everyone take their seats.
"Alola, class." said Professor Kukui.
"Alola, Professor Kukui." replied the class.
"Today, I have a special treat for everyone." said Professor Kukui. "After school, we will be playing a game of PokeBase."
"Sweet!" said Lynn Jr.
"And as an added bonus, we have a special guest coach." said Professor Kukui. Just then, a person that Lynn and Lincoln recognized walks into the classroom with Principal Oak.
"It's Oluolu." said Lynn.
"Yes, this is Oluolu; the star hitter for the Magikarp PokeBase team." said Principal Oak. "He will be a guest coach and commentator for today's game here."
"Awesome!" said Lynn. After classes were over, Professor Kukui's class exits the classroom and heads outside where they see a baseball diamond was set up. (a/n: We know that in the anime there were three bases, along with there being six players on the team; but we'll make it more similar to regular baseball, aside from the Pokemon part.)
"Okay, everyone; I brought a large variety of uniforms for everyone, so find your sizes and get changed." said Oluolu.
"Hey, cousins!" said Shane who was at the front gate with the rest of his family.
"Hey, Shane!" said Lynn and Lincoln in unison.
"What are you all up to?" asked Lance. Lincoln and Lynn then tell Lance's family about what they were about to do.
"That sounds so much fun!" said Shiloh.
"Wish we could play." said Shelby with a pout.
"I don't see why you can't." said Oluolu. "We could use a few more players."
"Really?" asked Shiloh with excitement.
"If you want, I'm sure we have more than enough uniforms and have them in your sizes." said Oluolu. Shane, Shelby, and Shiloh excitedly run over and grab their size uniforms and go off with the others to get changed.
Later, everyone formed their teams: Lincoln, Lynn, Shane, Shelby, Shiloh, Machop, Herdier, and Makuhita were on one team with Lynn being pitcher, Lincoln on second base, Herdier, Makuhita, and Machop outfield, Shiloh as catcher, Shane on first base and Shelby on third; while Mallow, Alola Lana, Lillie, Sophocles, Kiawe, Steenee, Popplio, Turtonator, and Togedemaru were on the other team with Kiawe being the pitcher, Turtonator as the catcher, Mallow on third base, Lillie on first base, Popplio on second base, Sophocles, Steenee, and Togedemaru in the outfield .
"Let's go Team Loud!" shouts Lynn Jr, getting everyone to cheer.
"I hope I do okay enough." said Lincoln with worry. "I'm not as athletic as the rest of you all. I became faster because of the pancake race training, and all that pokeball throwing helped also, but it's the batting part I don't think I'll do that great at."
"Don't worry about it, cousin." said Shane.
"It's not like anything important's on the line." said Shiloh.
"I guess so." said Lincoln. "Maybe I'll manage at least one hit."
"Just do your best, bro." said Lynn. Soon, Team Loud was up at bat, with Turtonator as the catcher and Kiawe as the pitcher. Lynn steps up to the plate and gets ready.
"Hope you don't feel bad when I strike you out." said Kiawe.
"Bring it on!" said Lynn with a grin.
"You got guts, I'll give you that." said Kiawe.
"Oh, she's got more than that, Kiawe!" Lincoln says from the bench he and the rest of his teammates were at. Kiawe suddenly flares with Z-Energy, surprising Lynn.
"Wait, is that allowed?" asked Lynn.
"It's perfectly legal in PokeBase." said Oluolu.
"I need to get my hand on a Z-Ring somehow." said Lynn. Kiawe puts all his energy into his pitch and sends it towards Lynn at high speed; fortunately for Lynn, she's used to high-speed pitches and manages to connect with her bat, shocking everyone.
"That was an amazing hit!" said Oluolu. Everyone watches as the ball was sent flying out of the park... and halfway across the city.
"Oh yeah! Who's the queen?!" said Lynn as she circles the bases, giving her team the first run of the game.
"Wow." said Mallow. "Your sister is pretty good, Lincoln."
"That's the understatement of the year." said Lincoln. "She's the star player on her baseball team back home."
"You know it." said Lynn as she walks back to the bench and sits down with her teammates congratulating her. The Loud cousins all had turns at bat, Shane, Shiloh, and Shelby got some good hits partly due to all the physical training their dad had them do, with Rockruff and Makuhita striking out; soon it was Lincoln's turn who looked a little nervous.
"Keep your eye on the ball, cuz." said Shane. Lincoln looks at his Z-Ring and remembers that Z-Energy was legal; he wasn't certain that it would make enough difference with him, but he'd might as well try. He steps up to the plate and channels Z-Energy into himself.
"Whoa! Lincoln can do that also?" asked Shiloh.
"Better hope it helps you." said Kiawe who channels Z-Energy into himself. He throws the pitch as hard as he could; out of reflex, Lincoln swings the bat as hard as he could and felt the bat connect with the ball, sending it past Kiawe who was in shock.
"Run, Lincoln!" shouts Lynn. Lincoln quickly drops the bat and runs to first base and decides to stay there, just as Shelby and Shiloh make it to home plate.
"Nice hit, Lincoln." said Shiloh. Lincoln lets out a sigh of relief.
"These Louds are very impressive." said Oluolu.
"Indeed, they are." said Principal Oak.
It was soon the Kiawe's team's turn at bat. Lynn takes her place on the pitcher's mound while Kiawe steps up to the plate.
"I'm bringing the heat, so you better get ready, Kiawe!" said Lynn.
"I'm always ready." Kiawe replied as he channels Z-Energy into himself.
"This should be good." said Lynn before winding up and throwing with all her might; Kiawe swings and connects,sending the ball towards Herdier.
"Catch it!" said Lincoln. Herdier runs under the ball and catches it in his mouth.
"You're out!" said Lynn, making Kiawe sulk.
The game went on for a while, with both teams doing very well; soon it was over with the Louds winning fourteen to seven.
"Team Loud for the win!" cheered Lynn. Lance and Sharon, who were watching from the sidelines, cheered for their kids, Lynn, and Lincoln's victory. After both teams shook hands, Professor Kukui, Principal Oak, and Oluolu walk over to them.
"That was an amazing game." said Professor Kukui.
"And I have to say that you were very impressive, young lady." Oluolu says to Lynn.
"Thanks." said Lynn Jr. Oluolu smirks as he takes out a pokeball and tosses it, releasing a humongous, dark blue-green Pokemon with pointed ears.
"That Pokemon is huge!" said Lincoln as he takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Snorlax, the Sleeping Pokemon, and the evolved form of Munchlax. It doesn't do anything other than eat and sleep. When prompted to make a serious effort, though, it apparently displays awesome power." said Lincoln's Rotom Phone.
"How about my Snorlax takes a swing at one of your pitches?" asked Oluolu. Snorlax grabs a bat and steps up to home plate.
"Ha! This should be easy!" said Lynn as she runs to the pitcher's mound while her teammmates take their positions out on the field.
"Don't be so sure." said Oluolu. Lynn takes a deep breath and throws the ball as hard as she could; but to her surprise, the Snorlax manages to get a hit, sending the ball far outfield to Machop.
"Machop, throw it to me so I can tag out Snorlax!" said Lynn. Machop starts running towards the ball.
"Now, time to pull out all the stops!" said Oluolu as he pulls up one of his sleeves, revealing a Z-Ring, surprising everyone.
"He's got a Z-Ring!" said Lincoln. Everyone watches as Oluolu channels Z-Energy into Snorlax, making its eyes shoot open and glow red.
"What's he up to?" asked Mallow.
"Passion, and sweat; tears and guts, feel the burn!" Oluolu starts to say as he channels Z-Energy into Snorlax. "Run, Snorlax! Use Pulverizing Pancake! Go!" Then, to everyone's surprise, Snorlax starts running around the bases with incredible speed.
"Wow, that's fast!" said Lance.
"You said it, honey!" said Sharon. Snorlax manages to make it to home plate before Machop could throw the ball to Lynn.
"That was awesome." said Lynn with awe. "I gotta get a Z-Ring." After everyone rested up after the game, they spent time relaxing on the beach.
"Today was fun." said Lincoln.
"I never played baseball like that before." said Lynn.
"Alola is full of surprises." said Lincoln. His Rotom Phone suddenly rings, making Lincoln look at it to see he was getting a call from his family.
"Hi, Lincoln and Junior." said Rita.
"Hi, Mom." said Lincoln and Lynn Jr.
"How was your day?" asked Lynn Sr. Lincoln and Lynn Jr told their family about the game they played today.
"Who knew they had baseball in Alola?" asked Luna.
"Not me, that's for sure." said Lincoln.
"Glad you're all having fun there." said Rita. After a few minutes of talking, they end the call. Later that night at Kahuna Hala's place, Lynn decides to ask him a question.
"Hey, where can I get my hands on a Z-Ring?" asked Lynn Jr.
"They can be made from an object called a Sparkling Stone." said Kahuna Hala.
"I got mine from a Pokemon called Tapu Koko." said Lincoln.
"Man, I hope I can get a Z-Ring someday." said Lynn. "It could come in handy for that Pokemon Battle Royale Tournament."
"Maybe you'll get lucky and find one soon." said Kahuna Hala.
"I hope so." said Lynn Jr.
Lincoln and Lynn just tried a new activity and had fun today. What else will they experience as their Alola adventure continues?
