Been There, Dunsparce That
As Lincoln and his new friends travel through the Santalune Forest, they all take the time to train their newer Pokemon.
Lincoln's Bagon learned Headbutt, his Fennekin learned Howl, his Zigzagoon learned Baby-Doll Eyes, and his Panpour learned Lick and Water Gun. During the training, Zigzagoon found an Antidote and a Super Potion with his Pickup ability; also during Weedle's training, he starts to glow.
"Hey, your Weedle's evolving, Lincoln!" said Serena.
"Awesome!" said Lincoln. He and his friends watch as his Weedle suddenly releases thread from himself that covers his entire body; when he was done, he was encased in a tan-colored cocoon.
"Let's see what he is now." said Trevor as he points his pokedex at Lincoln's newly evolved Pokemon.
"Kakuna, the Cocoon Pokemon, and the evolved form of Weedle. Almost incapable of moving, this Pokémon can only harden its shell to protect itself when it is in danger." said Trevor's pokedex.
"And this says that Kakuna learned Harden after he evolved." said Trevor.
"Your first evolution, Lincoln!" said Shauna as she wraps her arms around Lincoln in a hug; she soon realizes what she was doing and quickly lets go while she and Lincoln blush, and their friends laugh a little.
"C-Could we just keep going?" asked Lincoln. After Serena, Tierno, and Trevor stopped laughing, they all continue on their way.
After about ten more minutes of walking, they all finally reach the edge of the forest.
"Finally, we're almost out of here." said Tierno.
"It wasn't so bad." said Serena.
"Except those Pokemon taking my pokedex." said Shauna with a pout.
"At least you got it back." said Lincoln.
"Yeah, there's that at least." said Shauna. The group exits Santalune Forest and find themselves on Route 3.
"Santalune City should be close by." said Trevor.
"Then let's get going!" cheered Shauna as she starts running off with everyone following after her.
"She's energetic." said Serena.
"Well, I can't wait to get to the Santalune Gym so I can try to earn my first gym badge." said Lincoln.
"Did you register for the Kalos League yet?" asked Trevor.
"Wait; I have to register?" asked Lincoln.
"You haven't yet?" asked Serena.
"I haven't heard about having to do that." said Lincoln. "I thought I just had to collect all eight badges in order to compete."
"That's just to prove your worth as a trainer." said Trevor. "You still have to fill out an application, which you can do at a Pokemon Center."
"Another reason to get to Santalune City quickly." said Lincoln. The group suddenly hears rustling coming from tall grass nearby; they look to see a brown and cream-colored, birdlike Pokemon flying out of the grass.
"What's that?" asked Serena as she takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. A common sight in forests and woods. It flaps its wings at ground level to kick up blinding sand." said Serena's pokedex.
"I think I'll catch this one; haven't caught any Pokemon since starting this journey." said Serena as she pulls out a pokeball. "Froakie, go!" She tosses Froakie's pokeball and releases her Froakie. "Okay, Froakie, use Pound!" Froakie hops at Pidgey and pounds it, knocking it back. The Pidgey flies at Froakie and rams it, knocking it back.
"Use Bubble!" said Serena. Froakie releases bubbles from its mouth and they hit Pidgey, damaging it, and lowering its speed. The Pidgey flies at Froakie and rams it again, knocking it back.
"Pound once more!" said Serena. Froakie hops at Pidgey and pounds it, knocking it to the ground. Serena takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Pidgey, hitting it, and sucking it in; it wiggled around a few times until it clicked.
"Way to go, Serena!" said Tierno. Serena walks to Pidgey's pokeball and picks it up.
"I caught my first Pokemon!" said Serena, holding up Pidgey's pokeball; she puts it away and takes out her pokedex to look up Pidgey's information. "This says Pidgey's a girl, she knows Tackle, and she has the Tangled Feet ability which raises her evasion when she's confused."
"Hey, there are some more Pidgies over there." said Lincoln as he points at a flock of Pidgies that seem to be diving down at something in a nearby patch of tall grass.
"What are they doing?" asked Serena. The group go over to where the Pidgies were diving at and see they were attacking a light yellow Pokemon with a blue underbelly and lower jaw, blue circles around its eyes, a cone-shaped tail, and wings on its back.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln as he points his pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Dunsparce, the Land Snake Pokemon. When spotted, this Pokémon escapes backward by furiously boring into the ground with its tail." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Why are those Pidgies attacking it?" asked Shauna.
"I don't know, but five on one is unfair!" said Lincoln as he runs over to where the Dunsparce was lying and stands over it. The Pidgies look at him with anger as they now focus their attention on them.
"Be careful, Lincoln!" said Shauna.
"I got this." said Lincoln as he takes out his Panpour's pokeball and tosses it, letting the Pokemon inside it out. The Pidgies start diving towards them. "Okay, Panpour; use Water Gun!" His Panpour starts releasing streams of water out of his mouth, hitting two of the Pidgies, making them fall to the ground. The other three Pidgies continue diving towards their target, making Lincoln pick up the Dunsparce and dives to the side, narrowly dodging the bird Pokemon.
"I gotta help Lincoln!" said Shauna as she lets her Chespin.
"We're with you, Shauna!" said Trevor as he lets out his Corphish.
"Chespin, use Rollout!" said Shauna. Her Chespin tucks himself into a ball and rolls into one of the Pidgey, dealing super effective damage, and knocks it to the ground.
"Corphish, use Bubble!" said Tierno. His Corphish opens one of his claws and releases a barrage of bubbles that hits another Pidgey, knocking it to the ground as well.
With the remaining Pidgey, it was continuing towards Lincoln who was still holding the Dunsparce in his arms.
"Panpour, use Scratch!" said Lincoln. His Panpour leaps at the remaining Pidgey and swipes his claws at it, but the attack is dodged and Pidgey flies past Panpour.
"Lincoln, look out!" said Shauna. Lincoln holds Dunsparce close to him and prepares to take the hit for the Pokemon when it suddenly wriggles free of his arms.
"Dunsparce, be careful!" said Lincoln. The Dunsparce suddenly tucks itself into a ball and rolls at the Pidgey, slamming into it, and dealing super effective damage.
"That was Rollout!" said Trevor. The Pidgies, seeing they were outmatched, fly away, leaving the group alone.
"And don't go around ganging up on other Pokemon!" shouted Shauna to the fleeing Pokemon.
"Well, that's taken care of." said Tierno before he starts doing a victory dance. Lincoln looks at the Dunsparce.
"Why were those Pidgies attacking you?" asked Lincoln.
"Some Pokemon can be territorial." said Trevor. "Dunsparce must've wandered into their territory."
'Just like how Lori doesn't like me or our siblings, except Leni, going into her room.' Lincoln thinks to himself with a small frown.
"Is Dunsparce okay?" asked Serena. Lincoln looks at the Pokemon and sees a few minor injuries on it.
"Doesn't look that bad." said Lincoln as he pulls a Potion out of his backpack and sprays Dunsparce with it, healing the Pokemon.
"There; good as new." said Shauna with a smile.
"Should we keep going?" asked Trevor.
"Sure." said Lincoln as he returns his Panpour to his pokeball while Shauna and Trevor return their Pokemon to theirs. As he stands upright, he suddenly feels something on his leg, making him look down to see the Dunsparce up against it while looking up at him with a smile.
"What's with Dunsparce?" asked Serena.
"I think it's thanking Lincoln for helping it." said Trevor.
"Oh; you're welcome, Dunsparce." said Lincoln. He and his friends begin to head up Route 3 towards their destination. After about a minute of walking, Shauna hears movement behind the group, making her turn to see Dunsparce flying, barely over the ground, towards them.
"Hey, it's that Dunsparce." said Shauna, getting everyone's attention.
"What does it want?" asked Trevor. Dunsparce flies to Lincoln and leans up against his leg.
"I think Dunsparce wants to come with Lincoln." said Trevor.
"Can you blame it?" asked Shauna. "Lincoln did stand up for it against those Pidgies." Lincoln looks down at Dunsparce.
"You want to come with me, Dusparce?" asked Lincoln; Dunsparce nods in response. Lincoln smiles and pulls an empty pokeball out of his backback. He tosses it at Dunsparce; it hits Dunsparce and it gets sucked into the pokeball. It wiggled a few times until it clicked.
"Congratulations, Lincoln." said Shauna. Lincoln smiles and picks up Dunsparce's pokeball.
"Welcome to the team, Dunsparce." said Lincoln. He puts Dunsparce's pokeball away and pulls out his pokedex. "According to this, my Dunsparce is male, he knows Rage, Defense Curl, and Rollout; he has the Serene Grace ability which doubles the chance of an attack's secondary effect activating."
"Okay, everyone; let's get to Santalune City so Lincoln can register for the Kalos League." said Shauna. After everyone returned their Pokemon to their pokeballs, the group continued on their way to Santalune City where Lincoln intends to register for the Kalos League and challenge the Santalune Gym.
