Kanto Starters and Mega Stones
The group soon arrives in Lumiose City where Lincoln hopes to earn his next gym badge.
"I've always wanted to see this place." said Shauna.
"I wonder if they have some awesome dance parties here?" asked Tierno.
"Well, I do know that Professor Sycamore's lab is here." said Trevor.
"Are you going to try earning your next gym badge, Lincoln?" Shauna asked Lincoln.
"I'm gonna head to the Pokemon Center first and exchange my Zigzagoon for my Flabebe." said Lincoln.
"We should also get our Pokemon treated as well." said Trevor.
"Good idea." said Serena.
The group go to the Lumiose City's Pokemon Center where Lincoln trades his Zigzagoon for his Flabebe. After that was done, the group give the nurse their Pokemon, then head to the cafeteria to have some lunch.
"What should we do while our Pokemon are being treated?" asked Serena as she and the others ate.
"Maybe I'll try and find where the gym is." said Lincoln. Shauna pulls out a guidebook and looks through it.
"This says that the gym is at the center of the city in a tall building called Prism Tower." said Shauna.
"Thanks, Shauna." said Lincoln. "After lunch, I'll head over there and check it out at least before I challenge the gym leader."
"I want to see it also." said Shauna.
"We'll come along." said Tierno.
"It'll pass the time until our Pokemon are fully healed." said Trevor.
"Good idea." said Serena.
After everyone finishes eating, they all head to the center of Lumiose City where they find Prism Tower; they also see construction equipment around it, with some work being done at the top of it.
"So this is the gym?" asked Lincoln.
"I think so." said Shauna.
"What's with the construction?" asked Tierno.
"Let's find out." said Serena.
The group walk over to the Prism Tower and find a man wearing a hard hat, standing in front of it.
"Pardon us, sir." Lincoln says, getting the man's attention.
"Can I help you kids with something?" asked the man.
"Is something going on here?" asked Serena.
"The gym leader is working on something at the top of Prism Tower." the man replied.
"What about the gym?" asked Lincoln.
"I'm sorry, but the gym is closed until the gym leader's work is done." said the man.
"Dang it." said Lincoln.
"Sorry, Lincoln." said Shauna.
"I guess there's nothing we can do." said Trevor.
"What do you want to do now, Lincoln?" asked Shauna.
"Let's stop by Professor Sycamore's lab and say hi." said Lincoln.
"I guess that would be okay." said Serena.
"Let's go then!" said Tierno.
Meanwhile, at the top of Prism Tower, a boy with blonde hair with a lightning bolt-shaped tuft of hair coming out of it; wearing glasses, light blue jumpsuit with yellow collar, ankle cuffs, along with white shoes, was working on a satellite array with the help of a robotic arm coming out of a white backpack he was also wearing. With him was a little girl with shiny, gold blonde hair that had a side ponytail, wearing a brown top, a white, cloudlike skirt over black shorts, pink shoes, and yellow shoulder bag.
"What are you working on, Clemont?" the girl asked the boy now known as Clemont.
"I'm working on a way to extend Kalos's communication network, Bonnie." Clemont says to the girl, now known as Bonnie. "With this, we can communicate with more people in the world."
"But what about the gym?" asked Bonnie. "I'll bet challengers aren't going to like having to wait to try earning their Voltage Badges."
"I know; and that's why I want to try getting this done as soon as possible." said Clemont.
"I hope so." said Bonnie.
"The future is now, thanks to science." said Clemont as he puts a welding torch up to some wires, only for sparks to come out of them.
"This could be a while." said Bonnie.
Back with Lincoln and his friends, they all just arrived at Professor Sycamore's lab. They go inside and quickly see Professor Sycamore talking with one of his assistants; he looks towards Lincoln's group when he hears them enter.
"Hello, children." said Professor Sycamore.
"Hey, Professor." Lincoln replied.
"How have you been doing?" Professor Sycamore.
"I've already won my first gym badge." said Lincoln as he shows Professor Sycamore his Bug Badge.
"That's great." said Professor Sycamore.
"Lincoln would challenge the Lumiose Gym, but it's closed due to some construction going on there." said Shauna.
"I've heard about that." said Professor Sycamore.
"What's going on there?" asked Serena.
"I haven't heard anything yet." said Professor Sycamore.
"Well, I guess I can look for another gym to challenge." said Lincoln.
"But I'm glad that you and your friends are here, Lincoln." said Professor Sycamore.
"How come?" asked Lincoln.
"Perhaps we can have this discussion in my office." said Professor Sycamore as he starts heading upstairs; Lincoln and his friends look at each other before following Professor Sycamore.
The group soon enter Professor Sycamore's office where they see him in front of his desk that had three pokeballs on it, along with a small case, plus a package.
"What did you want to talk to us about?" asked Lincoln. Professor Sycamore grabs the pokeballs off his desk and tosses them, releasing three Pokemon; one was an quadrupedal, turquoise, toadlike Pokemon with a plant bulb on its back, the second was a bipedal, orange, lizardlike Pokemon with fire on the tip of its tail, and the third was a bipedal, light blue, turtlelike Pokemon. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and points it at the toadlike Pokemon.
"Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokemon. A strange seed was planted on its back at birth. The plant sprouts and grows with this Pokémon." said Lincoln's pokedex. Shauna points her pokedex at the lizardlike Pokemon.
"Charmander, the Lizard Pokemon. The flame on its tail indicates Charmander's life force. If it's healthy, the flame burns brightly." said Shauna's pokedex. Serena points her pokedex at the turtlelike Pokemon.
"Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon. It shelters itself in its shell, then strikes back with spouts of water at every opportunity." said Serena's pokedex.
"These three are starter Pokemon from the Kanto region." said Professor Sycamore.
"Kanto region?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes; Kalos isn't the only Pokemon region in the world, Lincoln." said Professor Sycamore.
"Yeah; there's lots of them." said Tierno.
"Whoa." said Lincoln.
"I would like for three of you to take these three Pokemon on your journey." said Professor Sycamore.
"Really?" asked Trevor.
"So, which of you wants to take one of these little ones with you?" asked Professor Sycamore.
"Let me pick one." said Tierno.
"Very well." said Professor Sycamore. Tierno steps forward and looks the Pokemon over.
"I think I'll take Squirtle." said Tierno. Squirtle smiles with joy before spinning around on its shell as if it was break dancing.
"Little guy's got some dance moves." said Shauna with a small laugh.
"That makes it seem like I made the right choice." said Tierno. Professor Sycamore hands Tierno Squirtle's pokeball.
"Your Squirtle is, in fact, a boy; he knows Tackle, Tail Whip, Bubble, and Withdraw; and he has the Torrent ability." said Professor Sycamore.
"Can I have Charmander?" asked Trevor.
"Of course you can." said Professor Sycamore. "Charmander's a boy, he knows Scratch, Leer, Ember, and Smokescreen; and he has the Blaze ability." He then hands Trevor Charmander's pokeball. As Shauna watches this go on, she feels something on her leg; she looks down and sees the Bulbasaur, nuzzling it.
"Bulbasaur's really affectionate." said Shauna with a smile.
"Perhaps you would like to take this one with you?" suggested Professor Sycamore.
"Sure." said Shauna.
"Your Bulbasaur's a girl, she knows Tackle, Growl, Leech Seed, and Vine Whip; she has the Overgrow ability as well." said Professor Sycamore before she hands Shauna Bulbasaur's pokeball.
"Thanks, Professor Sycamore." said Shauna.
"Now I need your kids's help with something." said Professor Sycamore.
"What do you need?" asked Serena. He then goes over to the case the three Kanto starters' pokeballs were in and pulls out three small orbs; he also opens the small package on his desk and pulls out a similar orb from it.
"What are those?" asked Lincoln.
"These are Mega Stones." said Professor Sycamore. "They're a key component in Mega Evolution."
"Mega Evolution?" replied Trevor.
"It's the biggest mystery here in Kalos." said Professor Sycamore. "It's a kind of evolution that happens during battle."
"Wow!" said Shauna.
"You see; some Pokemon have the potential to evolve beyond their final forms." said Professor Sycamore.
"Really?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes." said Professor Sycamore. "But this evolution only lasts during the battle it's used in." He then hands one of the stones that was light blue, with a turquoise and pink emblem in to to Shauna.
"What's this?" asked Shauna.
"That's Venusaurite." said Professor Sycamore. "Once your Bulbasaur becomes a Venusaur, that can be used to turn her into Mega Venusaur."
"That sounds so amazing!" said Shauan. Professor Sycamore then hands Tierno a light gray stone with a blue and brown emblem.
"This is Blastoiseite, Tierno." said Professor Sycamore. "When your Squirtle evolves to Blastoise, you can use Blastoiseite to Mega Evolve your Blastoise into Mega Blastoise.
"Cool!" said Tierno. He then gives Trevor a light orange stone with a red and yellow emblem on it.
"This is Charizardite Y, Trevor." said Professor Sycamore. "Once your Charizard evolves into Charizard, you will be able to Mega Evolve into Mega Charizard."
"Thanks, Professor." replied Trevor. Professor Sycamore then opens the package and pulls out a light gray Mega Stone with a red, blue, and lavender emblem on it and holds it out towards Lincoln.
"I had this one sent to me from the Hoenn Region, Lincoln." said Professor Sycamore. "It's a Salamencite; you'll be able to Mega Evolve your Bagon once he evolves all the way to Salamence."
"Awesome!" said Lincoln before taking the Salamencite.
"How do we use them when our Pokemon reach their final evolutions?" asked Serena.
"I suggest heading to a place called Campheir Town." said Professor Sycamore. "There's a lot of history there; if there's even a clue to the secret of Mega Evolution, it'll be there."
"Got it." said Lincoln.
"But most importantly, make sure to have fun on your journey." said Professor Sycamore.
"We will." said Shauna.
Lincoln and his friends have taken their first step towards Mega Evolution. What else will they experience as Lincoln's Kalos adventure continues?
