The Cutting Honedge
Lincoln and his new friends continue making their way down Route 5 towards Cyllage City for Lincoln's next gym battle.
They all soon reach a small, old-looking town, and look around at the sights.
"What's this place?" asked Lincoln. Trevor takes a guidebook out of his backpack and looks it up.
"This is Camphrier Town." said Trevor. "It's one of the oldest towns in the Kalos region."
"Really?" asked Shauna.
"And not only that, there's also a really old castle here called Shabboneau Castle." said Trevor.
"Man, my little sister, Lola, would love to see that place." said Lincoln.
"What do you want to do now?" asked Tierno.
"I'm gonna get my Pokemon treated at the Pokemon Center, maybe grab something to eat." said Lincoln.
"And it is getting kind of late." said Serena as she looks up at the darkening sky.
"Let's hurry to the Pokemon Center then." said Lincoln.
Thanks to how small the town was, they found the Pokemon Center easily enough; they go inside and give the nurse their Pokemon.
After everyone has dinner, they all get rooms for the night, brush their teeth, shower, and go right to bed.
The next morning, after a light breakfast, they all try to figure out what they were going to do now.
"Wanna hang out here for a while and just chill?" asked Tierno.
"Wouldn't be such a bad idea." said Serena.
"I really wanna see that castle Trevor mentioned yesterday." said Shauna, getting a nearby gentleman's attention.
"Actually, that castle is closed to tourists." said the man. "It won't be open for a couple more hours."
"I guess we can do something else to pass the time then." said Lincoln.
"Let's check around outside the town and see what Pokemon we can find." said Trevor.
"That sounds like a good idea." said Serena.
"Let's go then." said Lincoln.
The group exits Camphrier Town through the west exit and look around for anything of interest; they soon see a small road heading south into a large grove of berry bushes.
"What kind of berries are there?" asked Shauna.
"Maybe there's some we can get for our Pokemon to use?" suggested Trevor.
"But if those bushes belong to someone, we should probably ask permission from the owner or at least see if he's willing to sell them." said Serena.
"Let's go see." said Lincoln.
The group head into the berry grove and look around to see if anyone was around; as they explored, they notice that some of the bushes looked like they were cut into different shapes like cubes, pyramids, and other 3-D shapes.
"Why would the owner trim his bushes this way?" asked Shauna.
"I didn't." a male voice says from behind them, making them look to see an elderly farmer, wearing blue denim overalls over a red plaid shirt, brown boots, a green apron, and a straw hat.
"Sorry, sir." said Lincoln. "Are we trespassing?"
"No, you're not." said the farmer. "But what are all you kids doing here?"
"We're just seeing if you're selling any of these berries." said Trevor.
"Sure I am." said the farmer.
"Sir; if you didn't trim these bushes this way, then who did?" asked Lincoln.
"A Pokemon likes to come around and do this to my bushes." said the farmer.
"Is it a problem?" asked Serena.
"Not exactly, but it destroys some of the berries in the process." said the man. "I sell these all over Kalos, and this is sort of an inconvenience."
"Have you tried doing anything about it?" asked Trevor.
"I don't have any Pokemon to battle with, so I can't really stop it." said the farmer.
"Maybe we can help." suggested Tierno.
"You kids Pokemon trainers?" asked the farmer.
"We sure are." said Shauna.
"If you can help me out, then that would be greatly appreciated." said the farmer.
"We'll do what we can." said Lincoln.
"Exactly what Pokemon is it?" asked Trevor.
"I'm not sure what it's called, but it looks like a sword with a blue sash connected to a sheath." said the farmer.
"Well, at least we know what it looks likes." said Shauna.
"Where do you think it would be?" asked Trevor.
"Well, if you head west from here, you'll come to a fork in the road; you take the right-hand path and head up Route 6 between two rows of trees." said the farmer. "After getting to the other side, there should be a couple paths leading into some really tall grass; the Pokemon usually hangs out there, sometimes slicing up trails in it.
"Okay, then." said Lincoln. He and his friends leave the berry grove and follow the farmer's instructions until they get to the fork in the road.
"That farmer said the right-hand path." said Trevor. As Lincoln looks down the other path, he sees a river with a bridge going over it; on the bridge was a very large, navy blue, catlike Pokemon. Deciding it wasn't important right now, he and his friends head up Route 6 and go between the rows of trees like they were instructed.
As they walk up Route 6, some rustling from some nearby bushes gets their attention.
"What's that?" asked Shauna. Suddenly, a magenta, insectoid Pokemon with a green abdomen, several pointy feet beneath it, and black, circular markings on its shoulders leaps out of the bushes. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Venipede, the Centipede Pokemon. It discovers what is going on around it by using the feelers on its head and tail. It is brutally aggressive." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"I'm going to catch this Pokemon." said Trevor as he pulls out a pokeball. "Go, Charmander!" He throws Charmander's pokeball and releases him. "Charmander, use Ember!" Charmander releases bits of fire out of his mouth and they hit Venipede, dealing super effective damage. The Venipede curled into a ball and rolled towards Charmander; it hits him, dealing super effective damage.
"That looked like Rollout!" said Lincoln.
"Charmander, use Scratch!" said Trevor. Charmander runs towards Venipede and scratches it, damaging it; it turned purple under Charmander's eyes.
"Looks like Charmander's poisoned!" said Shauna.
"This Venipede must have the Poison Point ability; it has the chance of poisoning an opponent that hits it physically." said Trevor. The Venipede rolls towards Charmander again and rams into him, dealing more damage than the previous Rollout.
"Rollout gets stronger after each time its used." said Lincoln. Charmander coughs from his poisoning and begins breathing heavily; a red aura appears around him.
"Charmander's Blaze ability; okay, use one more Ember!" said Trevor. Charmander releases bits of fire that burned brighter than the previous Ember and they hit Venipede, dealing super effective damage, and knocking Venipede to the ground. Trevor takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Venipede; it hits Venipede and sucks it in. It wiggled a few times until it clicked. "Yes; Venipede is mine."
"Way to go, Trevor!" said Tierno. Trevor takes out his pokedex and looks up Venipede's information.
"This says my Venipede's female, she knows Defense Curl, Rollout, Poison Sting, and Screech; like I suspected, she has the Poison Point ability." said Trevor. He takes a Potion and an Antidote out of his backpack and uses them on Charmander, healing his wounds, and curing him of his poisoning. Trevor then returns Charmander to his pokeball and the group continues walking up Route 6.
"You guys see any Pokemon that looked like how that man described that Pokemon cutting up his trees?" asked Lincoln, looking around.
"Not yet?" replied Serena.
They all soon reach the end of the rows of trees and quickly see a very large, exquisite palace behind an iron fence.
"That place looks so beautiful." said Shauna with delight.
"My sister, Lola, would love a place like that." said Lincoln.
"Is that Shabboneau Castle?" asked Serena.
"No, that's located to the north of Camphrier Town." said Trevor.
"Oh." Serena replied. They all then look around and Trevor sees a couple of areas next to the trees they came through that had some really tall grass in them.
"You think that Pokemon we're looking for is in there?" asked Trevor as he points to the tall grass, making everyone look at the spots.
"Well, that guy did say that it was in a spot with tall grass." said Shauna.
"Let's split up and search each spot." said Lincoln.
"Okay." said Serena. She, Trevor, and Tierno go to the western grove of tall grass while Lincoln and Shauna go into the other one.
Tierno was looking around for signs of the swordlike Pokemon when some rustling from nearby gets his attention; he looks to see a blue, bulblike Pokemon with small feet, and leaf fronds coming out the top of it.
"What's that?" asked Tierno as he takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Oddish, the Weed Pokemon. During the day, it stays in the cold underground to avoid the sun. It grows by bathing in moonlight." said Tierno's pokedex.
"Doesn't look like the Pokemon we're looking for, but I'll catch it anyway." said Tierno as he pulls out a pokeball. "Pansear, go!" He throws Pansear's pokeball and releases him. "Okay, Pansear, use Incinerate!" Pansear holds out his hands and launches a fireball out of them; it hits Oddish, dealing super effective damage. The Oddish fires a ball of violet liquid out of its mouth, and it hits Pansear; he begins to slump.
"Okay, Pansear, use Fury Swipes!" said Tierno. Pansear leaps at Oddish and repeatedly scratches it, knocking it to the ground. Tierno takes out an empty pokeball, and throws it at Oddish, hitting it, and sucking it in; it wiggled until it clicked. "Yeah! I caught Oddish. He takes out his pokedex and uses it to look up his new Oddish's information.
"Okay, this says my Oddish is a girl, she knows, Absorb, Acid, and Sweet Scent; she has the Chlorophyll ability which increases her speed when the sun is really bright outside." said Tierno.
"Okay; let's keep looking for that Pokemon." said Serena. Tierno returns Pansear to his pokeball, and the group continued to look around Route 6.
At the eastern part of Route 6, Lincoln and Shauna were searching for the sword Pokemon.
"Did you find it yet?" Shauna asked from inside the grass.
"Not yet." said Lincoln as he continues to look around. He soon comes across a clear path that's been cut into the grass and starts walking down it.
"Now where can it be?" Lincoln asked himself. As he walks along, he sees what looked like a sheathed sword with a blue sash, stuck into the ground at the end of the path.
"What's that doing here?" Lincoln asked as he walks over to the weapon and looks down at it; as he examines the sword, to his shock, the blue gem on the hilt opens up, revealing an eye. The 'sword' flies out of the ground and unsheathes itself before taking a few swipes at some of the tall grass around it while connected to the sheath by the blue sash, cutting it up. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and points it at the swordlike being.
"Honedge, the Sword Pokemon. Apparently, this Pokémon is born when a departed spirit inhabits a sword. It attaches itself to people and drinks their life force." said Lincoln's pokedex.
As Lincoln examines the Honedge, he notices a small twig with a few berries attached to it stuck to its sheath.
"I take it you're the one who's cutting up those berry bushes nearby?" Lincoln asked the sword Pokemon; the Honedge responds by going over to a nearby tree and hacks away at it, carving it into the shape of a decahedron. "I'll take that as a yes." The Honedge suddenly flies at Lincoln and takes a swipe at him, making him dive to the side.
"Lincoln!" Shauna shouts as she runs out from some nearby grass and over to him before helping him to his feet.
"Thanks." said Lincoln.
"What is that?" asked Shauna as she points at the Honedge.
"It's called a Honedge." said Lincoln. "And it's the one whose been cutting up the berry bushes."
"What should we do?" asked Shauna.
"I'm gonna battle it." said Lincoln as he steps forward.
"Be careful." said Shauna. Lincoln takes out his Dunsparce's pokeball and lets him out of it.
"Dunsparce, use Tackle!" said Lincoln. Dunsparce leaps headfirst at the Honedge; but to Lincoln's surprise, Dunsparce goes right through it.
"What happened?" asked Shauna. Lincoln looks at his pokedex for information on Honedge.
"Dang it; this says it's part ghost type, so normal type moves won't work." said Lincoln. The Honedge flies at Dunsparce and rams into him. "Well, it's a good thing Dunsparce knows other types of moves; Dunsparce, use Screech!" His Dunsparce lets out a loud shriek that makes the Honedge cringe; it responds by flying at Dunsparce and slashes him.
"You can do it, Dunsparce!" said Shauna.
"Dunsparce, use Pursuit!" said Lincoln. His Dunsparce leaps at Honedge with a small layer of dark energy covering his body and rams it, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it to the ground. Lincoln quickly takes an empty pokeball out of his pocket and throws it at the Honedge, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles a few times before it clicks.
"You did it, Lincoln!" said Shauna. Lincoln walks over to his new capture and picks up its pokeball.
"Yes! I caught Honedge!" said Lincoln. As Honedge's pokeball disappears to storage, he takes the opportunity to look up its information on his pokedex. "This says that Honedge is a girl, she knows Tackle, Swords Dance, Fury Cutter, and Metal Sound; she has the No Guard ability which increases his accuracy of his moves, as well as his oppenents moves."
"Let's go find the others." said Shauna. Everyone then meets up at the end of Route 6.
"Did any of you find it?" asked Trevor.
"Lincoln did." said Shauna.
"It was a Pokemon called a Honedge." said Lincoln.
"What did you do?" asked Serena.
"Battled and captured it." said Lincoln.
"At least it won't cause trouble for that berry farm anymore." said Trevor.
"Let's go tell the farmer there the good news." said Shauna.
Later, at the berry farm, the farmer was handing Lincoln a basket full of blue berries.
"Thanks for taking care of that Honedge." said the farmer.
"No problem." said Lincoln.
"What kinds of berries did we get?" asked Tierno.
"Those are Oran Berries." said the farmer. "They help restore a bit of a Pokemon's stamina."
"These could be useful if we're low on potions." said Lincoln.
Lincoln and his friends have helped a berry farmer with his Honedge problem. What else will they do as their Kalos adventure continues?
