Meeting Palina

The Loud siblings, along with the rest of the Galaxy Team Survey Corps make their way towards the nearby beach on their way to meet with Warden Palina.

"I hope we can help Palina with her problem." said Lori.

"Me, too." said Lana.

"I wonder what kind of Pokemon the late lord was like." said Lisa.

"We could ask when we meet with the warden." said Lincoln.

"Let's keep going." said Lynn. As they continue on, Lily suddenly giggles with delight.

"What is it, Lily?" asked Lincoln. They all see the youngest Loud sibling reaching out towards something; they look to see a gray, slender, catlike Pokemon with a spring-shaped tail.

"Kitty cat." said Lily as she reaches for the Pokemon.

"What Pokemon is that?" asked Lincoln.

"That would be a Glameow." said Professor Laventon.

"She looks so elegant." said Lola.

"I see more over there." said Akari as she points to a small group of Glameows.

"I want one!" said Lola, getting the Pokemon's attention.

"Don't let them know we're here, Lola." said Lincoln.

"Sorry." Lola replied.

"Well you should hurry up and catch it before it decides to run away." said Lynn. Lola nods before she takes out her Ponyta's pokeball and tosses it, letting her Pokemon out.

"Okay, Ponyta, use Hypnosis!" said Lola. Her Ponyta's eyes glowed blue as sleep-inducing waves come out of them and wash over a Glameow, making it drowsy. "Now use Flame Wheel!" Her Ponyta runs at the Glameow while covered in fire and rams it, knocking it to the ground. Lola grabs an empty pokeball from her satchel and throws it at the Glameow, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles before a firework shoots out of it.

"Nice one, Lola." said Lynn.

"Congratulations." said Professor Laventon. "And my research says your Glameow's a female, and she should know Tackle, Hypnosis, Nasty Plot, Slash, and Night Slash."

"Let's keep going." said Lori. They all soon reach the shore of a beach and look at the ocean beyond.

"How far do you think this reaches?" asked Lana.

"What faraway lands are there beyond the horizon?" asked Akari.

"What new kinds of Pokemon do you think there are?" asked Lisa.

"Maybe we'll find out someday." said Professor Laventon. "But for now, we have our mission to focus on."

As they look around the shoreline, they notice several spherical, light blue, seal-like Pokemon with beige undersides and flippers.

"What are those?" asked Luan.

"Those are Spheals; they're part water, part ice." replied Professor Laventon.

"I could, literally, use a new Pokemon." said Lori.

"What's with you and the word 'literally'?" asked Lana.

"I, literally, don't know." said Lori. "But I'm still catching one of these Spheals." She pulls out a pokeball and throws it, releasing her Beautifly. "Okay, Beautifly, use Stun Spore!" Beautfly flaps her wings and releases an orange powder onto one of the Spheals with the others crawling into the water; the lone Spheal twitches.

"It's paralyzed." said Lynn.

"That is what Stun Spore does; it paralyzes Pokemon." said Lisa. The Spheal fights through its paralysis and releases sparkling snow from its mouth and it hits Beautifly, dealing super effective damage; Beautifly begins shivering.

"Beautifly, use Air Cutter!" said Lori. Beautifly flaps her wings and releases an x-shaped wave of blue energy from them and it hits Spheal, damaging it. The Spheal tries to roll towards Beautifly, but paralysis stops it in its tracks. Beautifly flinches in pain.

"Beautifly, use Silver Wind!" said Lori. Beautifly flaps her wings and releases a silver gust of wind from them and it hits Spheal; Beautifly begins surging with energy. Spheal fights through its paralysis and leaps at Beautifly while water surrounded one of its flippers and it strikes Beautifly with it, damaging her; she flinches in pain.

"Don't give up, Beautifly; use Tackle!" said Lori. Beautifly flies at Spheal and rams it, knocking it to the ground. Lori takes an empty pokeball from her satchel and throws it at Spehal, hitting it, and sucking it in. It wiggled around until a firework shoots up from it. "Yes; I, literally, caught a Spheal."

"Good work, Lori." said Lincoln.

"Yes; according to my research, your Spheal is female, she knows Rollout, Powder Snow, Water Pulse, Rest, and Liquidation." said Professor Laventon. Lincoln walks to Lori while pulling a Potion from his satchel and gives it to Lori.

"Here; your Beautifly looks like she can use this." said Lincoln.

"Thanks, bro; I, literally, appreciate it." said Lori.

"What IS with you and that word?" asked Lola.

"I don't know." said Lori.

"It's not important right now." said Lincoln.

"Yes, we must be on our way." said Professor Laventon.

The group head in the direction that Irida pointed out to them; along the way, they see several purple, scorpionlike Pokemon.

"What are those?" asked Lana.

"Those are Skorupi." said Professor Laventon. "They're part bug, part poison."

"I'm kind of digging its color." said Luna. "Maybe I'll catch it."

"Go for it." said Lynn. Luna nods before pulling a pokeball from her satchel and tosses, releasing her Staravia.

"Staravia, use Aerial Ace!" said Luna. Staravia flies at Skorup while white streaks surrounded her body and she rams it, dealing super effective damage. Skorupi leaps at Staravia while its pincers glowed white and it slashes her diagonally with them, damaging her; it turned purple under Staravia's eyes.

"I believe Staravia is poisoned." said Lisa. Staravia coughs from her poisoning.

"Staravia, Air Slash!" said Luna. Staravia's wings glow light blue and she waves them, releasing circular blades of energy from them and they hit Skorupi, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it to the ground. Luna takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at Skorupi, hitting it, and sucking it in; after it wiggled a few times, a firework shoots up from it. "Yeah! Skorupi's mine!"

"Excellent work, Luna." said Professor Laventon. "That Skorupi appeared to be male, and he should know Poison Sting, Bite, Venoshock, Cross Poison, and Swords Dance."

The group reaches a path leading up a ridge and start heading up it.

"How close are we?" asked Luan.

"We should be almost there." said Professor Laventon.

"EEEEEEEEEE!" squealed Leni.

"What's wrong, Leni?!" asked Lori with alarm.

"Is it a wild Pokemon?" asked Rei.

"Look!" said Leni as she points towards a reddish-brown foxlike Pokemon with three curls of orange fur on its head, and six orange tails.

"What's that Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.

"I believe it's called a Vulpix." said Lisa.

"It's so adorable!" said Leni. "I am, totes, catching it!"

"What does 'totes' mean?" asked Akari.

"I... don't know." said Leni. "It just came out."

"Focus on the Vulpix, Leni." said Lori.

"Right!" said Leni.

"My studies say that Vulpix is a fire type Pokemon." said Lisa. "So I recommended using your Dewott."

"Okay." said Leni as she lets out her Dewott. "Like, use Aqua Jet!" Her Dewott propels itself at the Vulpix while covered in water and slams into it, dealing super effective damage; the Vulpix responds by charging at Dewott while covered in fire and slams into her. Parts of Dewott's body become covered in burns.

"Be careful, Leni." said Lincoln. "Dewott is burned."

"Dewott, use Water Pulse!" said Leni. Her Dewott releases a pulsing mass of water at the Vulpix, hitting it, and dealing super effective damage; it reacts by releasing an orb of black energy that had a red eye inside it at Dewott, dealing a lot of damage to her.

"That was Hex." said Professor Laventon. "It's power is increased if the Pokemon it hits has a status condition." Dewott gets hurt from her burns.

"Better hurry up, Leni." said Luna.

"Dewott, like, use Tackle!" said Leni. Her Dewott quickly runs at the Vulpix and rams it, knocking it to the ground.

"Now's your chance, Leni!" said Lana. Leni takes an empty pokeball out of her satchel and throws it at the Vulpix, hitting it, and sucking it in; the pokeball wiggles once before a firework shoots out of it.

"Yaay!" cheered Leni as she runs over to her new Vulpix's pokeball and picks it up.

"What's Leni's Vulpix like, Professor?" asked Luan.

"By the looks of it, I believe that it's a girl." said Professor Laventon. "And at her level, she should know Ember, Quick Attack, Nasty Plot, Flame Wheel, and Hex."

"Are you okay, Dewott?" Leni asked her Pokemon, getting a nod in response.

"Maybe you should train up your Pokemon while we're here." suggested Lynn.

"Okay." said Leni.

They all continue making their way up the ridge until they reach the edge of a cliff; there, they see a woman with brown hair and purple eyes, wearing a dark pink and light blue bandana atop her head, a white long-sleeved shirt, gloves, and skirt with the Pearl Clan symbol on it, goggles around her neck, and red and white shoes, standing in front of a rock; standing at each side of her were two doglike Pokemon with dark orange-red fur with black stripes, and manes of white fur on their heads with rock horns coming out the tops of them that covers their eyes, one was bigger than the other one. One of the Pokemon sees the Galaxy Team and barked at them.

"Hush, now; settle down." said the woman. She turned and sees the Loud siblings. "I'm Palina of the Pearl Clan; and who might you be?"

"We're the Galaxy Team Survey Corps." said Lincoln.

"So, you're the siblings from the Galaxy Team." said the woman, now identified as Palina; she looked towards Lincoln. "I could only assume you're the boy Irida is alway talking about; Lincoln, is it?"

"Yes, ma'am." replied Lincoln.

"I have heard about how you all aided Kleavor and Lilligant when none other could quell their frenzy." said Palina. "Your strength must be amazing."

"Yep." said Lynn, flexing an arm.

"What brings you to the Cobalt Coastlands?" asked Palina. "We have no lord here, much less a frenzied one for you to quell; our previous lord...was swallowed by the waves."

"I'm sorry." said Lincoln.

"He was rescusing his young pup that had been swept out to sea and ended up giving his life to ensure the young pup's safety." said Palina.

"Such a selfless act." said Lisa. Palina then looks at the two doglike Pokemon that were standing on each of of her.

"If you were to guess, which of these Growlithe would you say is the previous lord's child?" asked Palina. Lincoln begins to look at each of the Pokemon, now identified as Growlithes.

"I would have to say the small one." said Lincoln.

"Oh, you have quite a good eye." said Palina.

"A Pokemon's size shouldn't mean anything." said Lincoln.

"Irida said you were cute and kind; she didn't mention wise." said Palina, making Lincoln blush. Palina looks down at the smaller Growlithe. "This quiet, skittish Growlith is the child of the previous lord."

"Why don't you make this Growlithe the new lord?" asked Lori.

"I have no doubt this little one has the potential to be a fine lord, but witnessing his father's demise has left deep scars in his heart." said Palina.

"Poor Growlithe." said Leni.

"There are those who expect me to train him more strictly and force lordship upon him before he is ready, but I couldn't bring myself to do that." said Palina.

"No one should force others to do things against their own will." said Lincoln.

"No matter what the rest of the Pearl Clan says, my mind is made up." said Palina. "I'll stay by this little one's side and let him live his life as he wishes. So, what's your purpose in coming to the coastlands."

"We want to do a survey of Firespit Island." replied Lincoln.

"A survey of Firespit Island?" replied Palina. "I see; there are rumors the place is haunted by strange shadows these haunted."

"Haunted?" replied Lucy from beside Palina, startling her. "I do not know why, but hearing that word makes me want to go to Firespit Island."

"If you want to go there, you'll need the aid of a Pokemon known as Basculegion if you wish to cross the sea." said Palina. "You should speak to Iscan, a warden of the Diamond Clan; he should be able to help you."

"Okay." replied Lincoln.

"There is definitely something strange happening out on Firespit Island." said Palina. "Those shadowy figures are concerning, of course; but then there's the odd lightning that came from that rift in the sky. Lightning is a sign that the heavens are angry; I worry that we may have offended almighty Sinnoh somehow. In the past, the Diamond and Pearls were locked in conflict over which side revered the true almighty Sinnoh. Even if we've reached an uneasy peace, the true almighty Sinnoh must be angered because there are still those who worship a false image of it."

"I hope that there can be true peace between both clans someday." said Lincoln.

"You are kind to say that." said Palina. "But I digress; I do apologize."

"It's okay." said Lori.

"Iscan lives on Aipom Hill, just past Ginkgo Landing. I imagine you'll find him there." said Palina.

"Thank you." said Lincoln.

The Galaxy Team's Survey Corps' work in the Cobalt Coastlands has just begun. What will they discover as their work on the pokedex continues?
