At the Beach

The next day the family got up early in the morning. Lucy to go to work and her kids to go to the beach. Michael was able to find a job, which was picking up garbage at the beach. As Michael was picking up garbage he decides to take his shirt off, because he felt warm.

While Julie and Catherine were looking in tide pools for wildlife they saw Sam reading a magazine in his fun tube. Then a bunch of teenagers, known as Surf Nazis ran by him and splashing water at him.

"Hey!" Sam cried out.

Michael then noticed a girl, but could only see the back of her head. For a moment or two Michael looked at her thinking that she was the girl from the boardwalk, but when she turned around he saw that she wasn't, much to Michael's disappointment.

While the girls were exploring the beach Catherine came across something amazing.

"Sissy, look at this," Catherine called to Julie.

Then Julie came over, and saw the amazing site. Buried under the sand were small white eggs, sea turtle eggs.

"Wow, this is so cool," Julie replies smiling.

"Do you think any will hatch?" Catherine asked.

"We'll have to wait and see," Julie said.

So all the girls spent the remaining time at the beach waiting. When it got to be late afternoon, Michael and Sam were ready to go.

"Now where are those girls?" Michael asked looking around for his little sisters.

"There they are," Sam said pointing out to where they were.

They went over, and told them it was just about time to go.

"But we're waiting for the turtle eggs to hatch," Julie informed her brothers.

Sam and Michael looked and saw the turtle eggs.

"Wow!" Sam looked in awe.

"Well, we can't stay much longer, and they might not hatch today. So let's get going," Michael told them.

So the girls reluctantly got up, and started walking away. But as they were walking away, Julie and Catherine looked back and saw two of the eggs move.

"Angel they're hatching," Catherine said with excitement.

The Emerson siblings quickly returned, and saw two little baby turtles coming out of the eggs. It was an amazing sight. They watched them climb out of the sand, and crawl to the ocean.

"Well girls, it's time to head over to the video store," said Michael.

Catherine was still a little reluctant to leave.

"Come on Cathy," Julie said, "I don't think anymore eggs will be hatching. But we can bury the remaining eggs in the sand a little better, so nobody else sees them and no seagulls can get to them if it makes you feel better."

"Okay," Catherine said. Then the two girls quickly buried the rest of the eggs making sure they weren't seen even put a few rocks around them. The four siblings then left the beach to go meet their mom.

Meanwhile Lucy was the video store talking with Maria, another worker at the video store.

"Maria, you're a great teacher you know that? You really helped me out a lot," Lucy said gratefully.

"Don't mention it," Maria told her, "Believe me, if it wasn't for Max, there's no telling where I would've been by now. I mean, nobody woulda hired me the way I looked when I walked in here."

"Well you look great now," Lucy states.

"Thanks," Maria responds.

"Where is Max?" Lucy asked, "I haven't seen him all day."

"Well he doesn't come in. He only works nights. He's busy over at another store over in Los Gatos," Maria explains, "It's much bigger than this one."

Lucy smiles when she sees Michael, Sam, Julie and Catherine. "There's my kids," Lucy said.

Michael parks in on his motorcycle with Sam riding on the back and Julie and Catherine following behind on their bicycles.

Lucy comes out of the store to greet them. "Oh, my kids, my kids," Lucy said happily.

"Hey Mom," Sam gets off the motorcycle and hugs their mom, followed by Julie and Catherine.

"Hi did you have a good day?" Lucy asked as she was hugging Julie. "Listen I get off in about twenty minutes. I thought we'd all get a bite together," Lucy suggested.

"Yeah sure," Julie agrees.

But Michael declines, "Yeah I got some stuff to do." He then takes out and envelope and hands it to his mom, "Here I want you to take this."

"What's this?" Lucy asked taking out a wad of bills.

"Just some money that I had for Christmas and that I made," Michael said.

"Mom your son's a garbage man," Sam said.

Julie and Catherine stick their tongues out at their brother.

"You're such a good kid. But you're going to need this when you go back to school," Lucy said handing the money back to Michael. "Have a good night."

"Bye Mike," Sam said as Michael rode away on his motorcycle.

"Bye Mickey," Julie said.

"Bye Angel," Catherine said.
