Welcome back to The Injustice Wars. Last time, just after Superman sacrificed himself, Batman started restoring Brainaic's collection. The Coluan is on his last legs at this point. Enchantress and The Empire have abandoned him at this point, and he'll never have a complete knowledge of Krypton with Superman's death, so he gets desperate. After shocking Batman out of the system, the remaining forces jump him, just in time for Blaze to connect herself to the Skull Ship and hold him down, finally finishing off Brainiac and the Society for good as the Skull Ship descends. So, what is going to happen in the aftermath? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens with the descending Skull Ship, as Blaze and company emerge triumphant over Brainiac, leaving him bound in the bridge for now. The conquering heroes arrive to greet the rest of their factions, with Flash, Nekoto Wismer, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman in the forefront. Ember and Flame reunite with Spyro and Cynder, Belial Aether rejoins his fellow BPRD member in Hellboy, Catwoman embraces Batman on learning that he's still alive, but Blaze, Supergirl, and Black Diamond stay back as the forefront heroes approach them)
Blaze: It's over.
Nekoto Wismer: Thank the gods.
Green Lantern: Where's Brainiac? I'd think the Guardians would want to have a word with him.
Wonder Woman: For all the death he's caused, so do the people of Earth.
Supergirl: He'll face justice in time.
Wonder Woman: Not if Kal has... (Just notices that Superman isn't with them) Wait, where is Kal?
(Knowing how Wonder Woman claimed to love Superman, Blaze and Supergirl just look at each other, unsure of what to tell her, so Black Diamond steps up)
Black Diamond: Superman is no longer with us. He gave his life to seal away Darkblood's ghoul.
(It takes a second, but then the sheer magnitude of this sinks in, leaving Wonder Woman absolutely stunned, falling to her knees at the loss of Superman. Robin in the background is equally shocked)
Black Diamond: I'm sorry.
Blaze: It's a little weird for me to say this, but I will ensure Superman's contribution to stopping Brainiac is recognized.
(But Wonder Woman is still too stunned to talk as this conversation ends. Fast forward a few hours, back in space, Supergirl is recovering Superman's cape and the scepter containing Horror-Show to bring them back to Earth. The next day, Batman makes the announcement of Brainiac's defeat, and the part Superman played in it, just like Blaze promised. And now, no matter what side of the fence people were on, the whole world mourns Superman. While the press conference is going on, Belial Aether and Black Diamond move Brainiac into what was Superman's cell, with Green Lantern and John Stewart reinforcing it to keep him from connecting to the prison's technology. And while the world celebrates the end of Brainiac, the remnants of the One Earth Regime gather in Kahndaq, making their plans)
Robin: I can't believe he's really gone.
Cyborg: It doesn't seem real...
Black Adam: At the very least, he gave his life doing what he always tried to do. Save this world.
(At this point, for the first time in days, Wonder Woman speaks, punching a column in the process)
Wonder Woman: This is our chance. (Turning back towards the group) The people love Kal now more than they ever did. Support for reestablishing the One Earth Regime has never been higher. We'll never have a better chance to finish what Kal started, and bring this world to peace again.
Black Adam: Agreed.
Wonder Woman: We just need to get Bruce and the dragons out of the way. (To Cyborg) Is Doomsday ready?
Cyborg: I'm just waiting on the orders to fish him out of the Phantom Zone.
Wonder Woman: We'll give them the day. But tomorrow, we strike them down.
(As Wonder Woman makes this vow, the scene transitions back to the Legion's headquarters, where the Legion, Insurgency, Republic, Black Diamond, Kent Nelson, and John Constantine are meeting up, with the destroyed Helm of Fate and a canister of Black Adam's lightning on the table)
Blaze: I still can't believe the events of the last few days.
Flash: I'm still having a hard time believing that the Superman we dethroned all those years ago was the same guy who just solar flared himself to take out Horror-Show.
(At this point, Blaze looks to Batman, who has stayed surprisingly out of the conversation)
Blaze: I'm willing to bet you didn't, Bruce.
Batman: (Actually caught off guard for once) Come again?
Blaze: Like I said back on the Skull Ship, I finally understand something about you.
Batman: (Knowing where she's going) And what would that be?
Blaze: Why you let Superman go seven years ago. Deep down, part of you still believed the Clark you knew was still in there. All he needed to do was see sense.
Black Diamond: And evidently Fate was the one to put sense back in him.
Blaze: I guess. (To Kent Nelson) Speaking of, how're you feeling, Kent?
Kent Nelson: Strange, but in a good way. For the first time since putting on the Helm, I don't know what's coming over the horizon, and... I like it.
John Constantine: As fun as this little chinwag is, I do believe it's time I made good on my promises and got out of this. Rose is probably worried sick.
Kent Nelson: And I think I'll join you. No doubt the Lords of Order want my head for being part of stopping Brainiac.
John Constantine: You can count on me to hide you, Doc.
Blaze: If this is to be the last time we see you, thank you, both of you, for all you've done.
Kent Nelson: The pleasure was all ours.
(And with that, John Constantine opens a portal out of there, and both he and Kent Nelson step through, never to be seen again)
Blaze: Speaking of Brainiac, is Oa prepared to house the prisoner?
Green Lantern: The Guardians are prepping a Sciencell for him as we speak.
John Stewart: And they've agreed to look into the captured cities.
Green Lantern: We'll be leaving with the Skull Ship in the morning.
Blaze: Excellent. (Yawns) Then on that, I think we should call it a day. Maybe take tomorrow off too.
Flash: I think we could all agree to that.
(And as the heroes take their well earned rest, our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. Blaze may be thinking of taking a day off, but we know Wonder Woman is up to no good. And now that Brainiac is bested, the Regime and the Empire are the big threats left. Blaze may want to rest tomorrow, but I don't think she'll get to. And now, we finally learn the reason Batman let Superman escape all those years ago. He still had some faith in his old friend after all. But with that, I think it's time we let the heroes rest and see what comes tomorrow. And for the answer to that question, tune in next time! Same time... same channel!
