Sweet and Dark Heart: Chapter 16

Afterwards, John put on some relaxing clothes, got onto his bed and plopped down, playing some video games after finishing up his homework. A bit later, it was time for him to sleep since it neared 1 A.M. before John even realized it.

- Tuesday Morning, 10 A.M. –

In the morning, as usual, John left his house after a light breakfast of toast with peanut butter, then he had Sayori tag along the way to school like usual.
"Good morning John! Ready for another sunny day?" Sayori asked as John gave a small smile.

"Morning Sayori, yeah I'm kind of…excited. I mean…I'm glad I joined the Literature Club…at first I was probably only interested in joining the Anime Club because, well, you know it's one of my favorite things…but I'm glad I let you guilt-trip me into joining the Literature Club. I didn't know what to expect but…getting to know Natsuki is nice…especially since I didn't think Monika or Yuri would be in the club, but that makes things more fun." John said as he gave Sayori a side hug, an almost imperceptible blush on her face.

John, realizing he went on a tangent, he blushed a bit as he chuckled nervously. Sayori on the other hand grinned mischievously as she looked up at him.

"Aww, thanks Johnny! It's nice that you're getting along so well with everyone, especially Natsuki! If my guilt tripping really did work on you, then maybe I can use it to have you give me cookies!" Sayori said as John burst out laughing.

"Hah, yeah right, as if! You're too good at doing those puppy dog eyes, but when it comes to cookies, you won't get any of mine!" John said as Sayori pouted.

"Hmph, meanie…" Sayori said as John chuckled.
After some more joking and bantering amongst each other, they reached school, said goodbye to each other as usual and headed to their classes. After their classes were finished, John headed to the Literature Club for the meeting. Upon entering the Literature Club, Sayori was already there as was Monika and Natsuki. Sayori was doodling something as she loved to do, while Monika and Natsuki were talking, with Natsuki talking about her favorite anime while Monika spoke about how her piano lessons were coming along; with Natsuki facing towards the Literature Club door. Yuri wasn't anywhere to be found as yet so John assumed the quiet woman was running a bit late.

Natsuki and Monika finished up their conversation and Natsuki briskly walked over to John, a small smile on her face that she tried to mask.

"Hey John…what's up?" Natsuki asked as Sayori went over to Monika.

"Hi Natsuki, nothing much, you ready for us to bake those cupcakes on Thursday?" John asked as Natsuki huffed and did her best to maintain her usual nonchalant attitude.

"Of course I am, those cupcakes are gonna be the best because I'll be doing most of the work! But…yes I am ready for it. Make sure you're not late or I'll bench press you!" Natsuki said as a small smile appeared from the corners of her mouth.

John chuckled and Natsuki felt a familiar flutter in her chest as her thoughts drifted to her usual feelings towards John.

"Well, make sure you're gentle if you do bench press me!" John said with a grin.

'I would really do that to you…well unless you wanted me to. But also…I'm mainly wanting for spend time with you, John. How I would love to scoop you up right now and kidnap you. That way you're mine. Only mine. For now at least, I'll be content sharing you with the others.' Natsuki thought to herself.

Meanwhile a few feet away, Sayori was giggling to Monika and nudging the other woman.

"Aww, aren't they cute together?" Sayori asked as Monika chuckled.

"Yeah, they are. I don't know if John doesn't realize it, but Natsuki is pretty fond of him…as much as she doesn't want to admit it." Monika said.

Natsuki heard them but did her best to ignore it, while John blushed a bit, with Yuri, half reading her book and half listening to what was going on, frowned in annoyance.

'Yes Sayori, we are cute together…but Monika being nosy like that. What an absolute annoyance she is, she needs to mind her own business before I get irritated.' Natsuki thought to herself.

After a few minutes of chatting, Monika got to the front of the room by her desk as usual.

"Alright guys, since the festival is coming up, the rest of the week will be pretty relaxing, so no poetry thus far considering we need to focus on the upcoming school club festival! Once that's all done on Friday, the Monday afterwards will have us with our usual routine!" Monika said.

Once Monika finished her brief announcement, Monika and Sayori decided to chat with each other while Yuri focused back on her book. Natsuki, already moving towards the back where the manga was kept, motioned for John to follow her. As John walked to the back, Yuri's grip on her book tightened as she clenched her teeth.

When John stepped through the threshold, Natsuki was already seated and John sat down next to her, with the large woman opening the book of Parfait Girls where they last left on when it was read on Monday.

"Ready for some more Parfait Girls, tiny?" Natsuki asked as John chuckled and gave a small nod.

"Sure, I'd love to!" John said.

As the two read Parfait Girls, John thought of Yuri, they had one class together last year and she was always quiet, but he couldn't help but feel bad for her as it seemed like she was lonely. Every time he entered the Literature Club, Yuri would be by herself reading which wasn't wrong, but John figured maybe Yuri just didn't like to conversate, which is why Sayori introduced them first being the social butterfly that she is.
"Something on your mind?" Natsuki asked as she looked at him from the corner of her eye.

"Well…yeah. With Yuri, she seems so…lonely doesn't she? I feel…sorry for her, she always seems by herself you know?" John asked.

'Yuri…tch. I can tell it's in his nature to be caring and sweet, but why for some freak like Yuri? Well, it doesn't matter to me as long as you're with me, John.' Natsuki thought to herself.

"Yeah, maybe. I mean, that's just how she is, from what I heard from Sayori and Monika. Don't take it too hard. Now let's get back to reading!" Natsuki said as she moved closer to John.
