Chapter Four: (We Need To Talk)
Fiona ran her way back to her room with Goldie trailing behind her in support after what just happened at dinner. Once Fiona reached the door she immediately slammed it right after Goldi quickly got inside the room, while the cute sign on the door flipped to 'Keep Out'. Fiona, who is looking at the surroundings of her room, let out a loud sigh before looking at the blond teen.
"I'm sorry you have to see me like this." Fiona spoke.
"Aye, don't worry about it, Mrs. Fiona." Goldi, being very mannered while giving her space, spoke with a calm attitude. "Not wanting to add fuel to the fire, but you weren't expecting it to be a call family oriented dinner back there?."
Fiona sighed. "I really did hope so. But deep-deep down I knew that this would happen. And I thought it was going so well."
Fiona walked over to her old toys above the fireplace that she can relate to since each toy represents her story. A grateful princess handing her handkerchief, a knight in shining armour, a red dragon, and a terrifying Ogre. The downside about it was that the ogre toy was down as a representation of it being slain. Fiona remembered as a child she did knock over that toy in favor of the knight being the hero, based on the brainwashed narrative of wanting to be just right. Goldi stood and studied her body language from a good distance.
She didn't want to mess with Fiona just yet or waited to be invited into her personal bubble. Fiona noticed the consideration from the teen and just praised how she respects boundaries. She motioned Goldi to come follow her out into the balcony and take the moment to look at the stars and moon itself. Fiona, still having that sad look, looked down with sadness while Goldi rubs her back in comfort. With that comfortable encouragement, Fiona let down a few tears and didn't expect what came next nor did Goldi. At that moment the two suddenly start seeing bubbles falling down upon their own confusion.
The two looked up to see a swarm of bubbles falling down as if someone had been having a bubble blowing party. Didn't take long to see the one responsible for showering bubbles. There, floating inside a giant bubble, was a well dressed middle-age woman who is capable of summoning up tempo music playing in the background as she spoke and moved around so angelic.
"Your fallen tears have called to me. So here comes my sweet remedy. I know what every princess needs. For her to live her life happily." She sang while getting closer to them.
When she takes a look at the two she immediately gasps at the sight of Fiona while popping her bubble. "Oh, my!."
"Huh?." Fiona was both confused and a bit hurt.
"Oh, uh, I mean, uh…look at you. You're all…" Fairy Godmother tried to recover herself in finding the right words to say that were positive and not offensive. She gave a little chuckle and a nervous smile. "Grown Up!."
"Uh…yeah…I'm grown." Fiona slowly spoke in response.
"And uh, you are supposed to be, mate?." Goldi raised her brow in suspension.
Fairy Godmother collected herself and spoke all soothingly. "Oh, sweet pea, can't you tell?. Magic wand. Fairy wings. Beautiful silk dress. Wonderful hair."
Goldi shook her head. "Got to be more specific with me."
"Oh, darling, I'm Fiona's Fairy Godmother." said Fairy Godmother, surprising Fiona.
Fiona, having that confused look on her face, spoke. "Wait, I have a Fairy Godmother?."
"Fairy Godmother?. The Fairy Godmother?." Goldi looked a bit surprised as she heard stories and everything related to her as a small kid. Yet, the feeling within her stomach has gotten uneasy while her upsetness was getting to her.
Before Goldi could utter another word, Fairy Godmother shushed it by putting her index finger on her lip to silence her. As if on cue, Fiona was about to say something but Fairy Godmother shushed her as well.
"There, There, you don't have to be all gloomy." Fairy Godmother puts on her warm smile before grabbing her hand. "I'm here to make it all better."
Fairy Godmother then twirls her magical wand towards Goldi, who felt the sparkle magic run through to her uneasiness, while being on guard as to what this woman is playing at.
"With…just…a." Fairy Godmother immediately conjured up another background music as she dragged the two back inside and started singing. "Wave of my magic wand. Your troubles will soon be gone."
Fairy Godmother flew up and did a little spin with her wand and shot a bolt of magic at Fiona and Goldi. "With a flick of my wrist and just a flash. You'll land yourself a prince with mountain tons of cash."
Just like that, Fairy Godmother did have Fiona and Goldi flowing of coins to their confusion and uneasiness. Usually for Goldi, she would be stuffing her pockets in all of these coins right, but something about all that this woman is displaying and appearing out of blue wasn't a coincidence. What came next was them seeing a big wardrobe being opened to see mice making nice dresses and looking like they never had any breaks or rest.
"A high-priced dress made by mice no less. Some crystal glass pumps and no more stress." Fairy Godmother continued singing while literally turning all the furniture into living furniture. "Your worries will vanish, your soul cleanse. Confide in your very own furniture friends."
Fairy Godmother and the furnitures all sang together while she conjured up another gift. "We'll help you set a new fashion trend!."
At that moment, Fairy Godmother magically gives Fiona a brand new cute little fuzzy female puppy, who barked at her in such love and delight. Goldie wasn't phased by what was displaying her. She knows there is a catch. She was once an orphan. She knows a few things about the real world. Nothing is free and everything has a price to pay. She watches the woman trying to get Fiona to tap into her princess nature with all of these fancy things that would make any girl scream 'Give Me-Give Me!'. What came next was unsettling for the both of them when Fairy Godmother showed them a nice purple stretched horseless carriage with a sexy man in back where the luggage should be and a whip in one hand.
Everything that was shown to Fiona in such an up to speed tempo has made her uncomfortable and overwhelmed by it all. So much that she just has to end it before she goes insane.
"Stop!. Just stop!." Fiona screamed out.
Fairy Godmother completely stopped singing and doing her number that always sold her clients. She and the furnitures looked at her a bit surprised by her outburst as this was a new one.
"Look, Fairy Godmother." Fiona managed to calm down and talk with politeness. "It is really nice of what you are offering. Really. But to be honest with you...I don't need all of this crap."
This shocked Fairy Godmother and the furnitures. Never and I mean never has ever declined or rejected Fairy Godmother's services or offers no matter who they are. Fairy Godmother studied Fiona for a bit before shifting her sights on Goldi.
"And what about you dear?. You look like you could use some happiness." Fairy Godmother spoke to Goldi.
Goldi shook her head. "Oh, no, I'm satisfied with what I have. Everything is just right for me."
"I dare ask. Why?." Fairy Godmother looks at her attire. "Your clothes are barely holding on. You sure you don't want to say... being set for life?."
"Thanks for the concern, but no, I don't need that." Goldi replied firmly.
Before Fairy Godmother could say anything, she herself, Fiona and Goldi started hearing someone outside of the room calling Fiona's name.
"Fiona!. Fiona!. Fiona!."
With no time to wait, Shrek busted through the double doors with Donkey and Jason accompanied him while pushing the dresser out of the way. The three looked around the room in utter confusion and were surprised to see moving talking furnitures.
"Oh, hey, you got a puppy!." Donkey happily came over to where Fiona is with the puppy in her hand. "Man, the only thing that I have in my room is shampoo!."
Fiona shook her head before putting the puppy on the lay down couch. She looked at her unexpected guest and spoke nervously. "Uh, Fairy Godmother?. Uh, furniture?. I would like you all to meet my husband Shrek."
Fairy Godmother, who was eyeing Shrek in utter confusion and disbelief of seeing an ogre here not only in Far Far Away but in the castle itself, but got the ultimate shock at what she just heard from Fiona. "You're husband?."
"Yes, my husband." Fiona spoke proudly. "And this one over here is Jason. My son by marriage."
"Your son?." Fairy Godmother looks at Jason while adjusting her glasses. "He's a...His a...w...w...when did this happen?."
"Oh, well, Shrek and Jason along with Donkey have rescued me from the Keep. Plus, my son wrote a book about it along with his upbringing and..." Fiona was stopped by her.
"Wait, Wait, Wait." Fairy Godmother looked at Jason hard. "You're telling me that this moor is the one who wrote that book called the Strange Family?."
"Yes, the one and only." Jason happily extended his hand. "It's a pleasure to actually meet The Fairy Godmother."
Fairy Godmother didn't bother to shake Jason's hand as she isn't too pleased at what she is just finding out for her confirmation. "I heard about the book and how popular it has gotten but never thought in my wildest dream it's true. A human moor adopted by an Ogre. I thought some author just got one heck of a wild imagination."
"Uh, is that problem?." Goldi comes over to Jason and grabs his arm in defense. She looks at her with anger as to where she is going with it and tests that theory. "You have a problem with my boyfriend?."
"Boyfriend?. Boyfriend?!." Fairy Godmother ain't like hearing this at all. The thought of two different ethnicities in love is unfavorable.
"What do you mean 'boyfriend'?." Fairy Godmother's voice was raised.
"I didn't stutter. I said he is my boyfriend and he is a successful author." Goldi spoke in defense.
Fairy Godmother looked from Goldi to Jason and then to Shrek with a mix of disbelief and anger. "What has happened here?. What kind of madness is this?. An ogre adopting and raising a human child. Then this." She showed body language towards a now upset Jason and Goldi. "No, No, No, No, this can't be right!."
Shrek, who has already seen what kind of person she is, and shrugs away from her. "Oh, great more relatives."
Fiona sighed with an irritated eye roll. "She is just trying to help."
Shrek, who walked over to the open luggage, spoke. "Great, cause she can help us pack. Go get your coat, dear we're leaving. Jason, Donkey and Goldi, you pack stuff as well."
"What?." Jason spoke in disbelief from what his father said. "Uh, Dad, I can't go. I'm contracted to come here from the book publishing company."
"Will get you a new better deal and probably get you out of your contract." Shrek responded while packing.
"Leave?. I don't want to leave." Donkey spoke in refusal. "We just got here."
"Yeah, and I want to sightsee." Goldi argued.
Shrek ignored her while Fiona sighed at the temporal dysfunction of her family. She looks back at Fairy Godmother with an apologetic look.
"I'm terribly sorry for the attitude of my husband. He's having a rough time adjusting and…" Fiona stopped when Fairy Godmother put her hand up.
"No need to explain his actions, Princess Fiona. I have other fish to fry tonight." Fairy Godmother pulls out a card from her bosom and hands it over to her. "Now, if you should ever need me, then please use this card to request for happiness. Just a teardrop away."
Shrek snatched right out of her hand and just being a complete jerk. "Why, thank you, that's what we need!. But fortunately for us, we've got all the happiness we need. We will be happy, happy, happy!."
Fiona frowned at Shrek's behavior. "I'm sorry."
"Goodnight." Fairy Godmother flew out of the room without accepting the apology. She flew into the same stretched purple carriage and spoke to her driver. "Let's go, Kyle."
They flew off without a sight leaving the Strange Family to have a conversation. But it's just Fiona and Shrek.
"That's very mature of you, Shrek." Fiona sarcastically spoke. "You know if you could at least try to work things out and be civil with my father, then we wouldn't be having this conversation."
Shrek sighed and looked at Fiona in frustration. "Fiona, you and I both know that me and Jason wouldn't be accepted in your family. It was never going to happen. I told you it was going to be a bad idea."
Goldi quickly grabs Jason and drags him out. "Night everyone. You and I are going to talk."
"Oh, great." Jason couldn't break free from her grip surprisingly.
After the two teens are gone, Fiona can fully dig into the conversation with Shrek and say her two coins.
"You know, you could've at least tried to get along with my father." Fiona pushed further.
Shrek faced his wife in seriousness. "You know, somehow I don't think I was going to get Daddy's blessing even if I did want it."
Donkey can see that things are heating up like a heatwave and just needs to stay out of it until the conversation ends. Shrek and Fiona started bumping heads and spoke angrily towards each other. To make things worse, the puppy is barking adorably but aggressive towards Shrek.
"Well, do you think it might be nice if somebody asked me what I wanted?. For a change?." Fiona dared go there.
Shrek, being a jackass, responded with a sincere facial expression. "Of course. Sure. Do you want me to pack for you, honey?."
Fiona had a look of disgust on her face at the behavior of her husband. "You know what, Shrek?. You're unbelievable!. You're behaving like a…a…a…a."
Shrek knows what Fiona is trying to say which not only angers him but also makes him want to hear it from her own mouth. He dared her. "Go on!. Say it!."
"Like an ogre!." Fiona angrily spoke. "Happy now!?."
"Don't get snippy with me, Princess!." Shrek spoke in anger. "And here's a newsflash for you!. Whether your parents or anyone in the world likes it or not… I am an ogre!."
Not taking anymore of barking, Shrek turned to the dog and then did a medium sized roar at the puppy. Frightened the poor animal to the point she lays down and put her paws on her face with a whimper.
"And guess what, Princess?." Shrek looks at Fiona with a smug look. "That is not about the change."
Fiona shook her head before walking past him to head straight for the door. She stopped at pushing her way out to slightly look at Shrek with disappointment. "I've made changes for you and our son, Jason, Shrek. Think about that."
Once Fiona exits herself out of the room, Donkey takes the moment to speak his mind after seeing the display between Shrek and Fiona.
"Oh, that was really smooth, Shrek." Donkey started imitating and mocking Shrek. "I'm an ogre!."
Donkey made a roar that even made the puppy a bit frightened. Shrek didn't bother to respond back after seeing what Donkey just meant as he approached the door to go apologize to Fiona. He stopped himself. Due to hearing soft sadden cries of Fiona which made his ears drop down. Meanwhile in the upper balcony where the king and queen's room is, Harold was on the balcony hearing the argument very well and clearly. He shook his head in disapproval at what he heard and was stubborn about it.
"I knew that this would happen. I told you." Harold walked back inside the bedroom where his wife is in bed.
Lillian, who had her reading glasses, is currently reading Jason's book to help her be informed about how all of this has happened. She is most definitely intrigued and loving each single page and drawing than all the books she reads over the years.
"This is one outstanding piece of literature." Lillian had her eyes glued all over the book. "My grandson is most definitely going to have multiple awards for this book."
"Lillian are you even listening to a word that I said?." Harold got upset at his wife.
Lillian sighed in irritation at being interrupted in a good read. She tries to pick up on where she left off but responds to her husband who is pacing back and forth. "To answer to what you said. You should feel how right you are. Because you are the one who started it."
Harold stopped pacing after hearing what Lillian just said. "Excuse me?."
"I didn't stutter, Harold." Lillian had her eyes on her book. "You embarrassed not only yourself, myself, but to the kingdom of Far Far Away."
"I can hardly believe you said that about me, Lillian. I mean really, he's the ogre. Not me." Harold argued.
"I think, Harold, you're taking this a little way too personally. This is Fiona's choice. She is not a little girl anymore. She is a grown woman." Lillian argued back.
"Yes, I know our daughter is grown. But she was supposed to choose the prince we picked out for her!. I mean, you expect me to give my blessings to this…this...thing?. And what makes it even ridiculous is that ogre adopts a human kid. You don't find that…I don't know…unorthodox?." said Harold.
"Well, our new son-in-law proves that creatures like himself can properly raise a child outside of his own kind. I mean look how well that child can write. Great parenting and outstanding upbringing." said Lillian, while eyeing the picture in the book. "And as for you not sure in giving your blessing to Shrek?. I most certainly know that Fiona does. And she'll never forgive you if you don't. I don't want to lose our daughter again, Harold. We're a family again. We're grandparents now. You know that I always wanted grandchildren."
"Yes, Yes, Yes, I know Lillian." Harold admitted to slight defeat.
"Look at us, Harold. We're not spring chickens anymore. Let's be honest with each other. We are old. We don't know how much time we have left in this world. I want to spend what's left with my family and grandchild. If we are lucky to be blessed enough to have more grandkids than the more the merrier." Lillian explained before flipping another page in her book. "You and I were extremely desperate when we couldn't wait any longer for Fiona to be rescued. We were literally just a signature away from signing our whole kingdom and authority of Far Far Away away to that sick, scoundrel, disgusted, inappropriate individual that I will never say his name to, for the exchange of Fiona's freedom."
Harold nodded as he remembered that same rain cloudy day when their desperation had become their master. They were literally about to give all they had away for saving their only child. "Please, don't remind me."
"Yes, it's a golden blessing from above that we got word that Fiona was rescued. We didn't expect the outcome of it, yes, I will admit. But who are we to become from beggars to choosers?." Lillian takes off her glasses. Ugh, you act as if love is totally and unhonestly predictable. In fact, don't you remember back when you and I were young?. And oh, how we used to walk down to the lily pond and they were blooming while we had ourselves the finest bottle of wine…"
Harold couldn't help but smile at that loving memory that they shared. "Yes, I remembered it like it was yesterday. Our first kiss…" Suddenly, he snapped out of it once he saw what his wife was trying to do. "But it is not the same!. I don't know if you need to get new glasses and get yourself an eye exam. Because I honestly don't think you realize that our daughter has married a monster who adopts a human child!."
Lillian threw her hand in defeat in trying to make him see it differently. "Jason isn't a little boy. He is a teen with a beautiful girlfriend."
"Who is a common criminal!." Harold pointed out.
Lillian rolled her eyes and resumed her reading. "Oh, stop being a drama king. Have an open mind about all of this."
"Fine! Fine! Pretend there's nothing wrong!." Harold started acting like a spoiled child to the point he started dancing closer to the balcony. "La, di, da, di, da, di da!. Isn't it all wonderful!. Oh, by all that the world has finally gone mad, I'd like to know how it could get any worse!."
While not only when Harold was having a stress attack, the purple carriage hovered up by the balcony as the door opens up and showed a serious and tipped off Fairy Godmother.
"Hello, Harold." Fairy Godmother spoke plainly with no warmness in her voice.
Harold jumped up from the surprise and yelped.
"Oh, for the love of pete." Lillian looks over in irritation. "What happened now?. Can't even read in peace before going to bed."
Harold popped his head out and came up with a good excuse to exit him into the balcony. "Uh, nothing!. Nothing, dear!. Just the old crusade wound playing up a bit!. Nothing for your little head to worry about. I'll... just stretch it out here for a while!."
Harold quickly closed the double doors of the balcony and turned to face Fairy Godmother in nervousness. "Uh, I take that this isn't a warm visit?."
"You better get in. We need to talk." Fairy Godmother right to it. "We need to discuss the old deal we had years ago. It's been broken by none of our parties."
"Well, actually, Fairy Godmother, I was off to bed." Harold made a fake yawn and tried to act all fatigued. He knew what this was about and did want to get his head chewed out. "As a matter of fact, I have already taken my pills, and they tend to make me a bit drowsy. So, um how about…"
His attempt to back away slowly was stopped when he felt someone behind him and looked up to see a big heavy built man, who Harold didn't even notice how he managed to sneak up on him. Fairy Godmother was steps ahead of Harold and knew he was going to try pulling some trick to avoid having a private discussion.
"Uh, actually, uh, we, we make this a quick visit. What?. What?." Harold spoke with a nervous chuckle and smile.
Once he got in with the man sitting beside him while his twin brother was sitting on the other end, Kyle whipped the carriage to fly out and away from the castle to prevent being an eyesore or have anyone be suspicious about this whole ordeal.
(A/N): Well, here is the chapter. Happy that you guys enjoy it. Now, I know majority of you all have seen the teaser of Shrek 5 which will be coming to theaters in December of 2026. I'm looking forward to seeing it, but I'm not so hyped about the designs itself. I hope that this was just a click bait to get all of us to go watch the trailer and later on we get good designs.
Now, we all saw that Felicia is aged up as a teenager. Which means that I have to come up with something for the future part five of this story. Now, this is where I need your opinion and thoughts on what I should do with Felicia and Jason's relationship as brother and sister. Before the idea of Shrek 5, I have been thinking about what to do with Felicia, which was in my early thoughts was her looking up to her elderly brother, Jason, and always loves his books and wants to be a writer just like him. However, Jason, not being supportive or trying helping his sister, keeps putting her down and tells her to go get a job and goes on to say that her writing career isn't going to fly high like his career. Thus, going so far in saying to her that the reason why he was successful in his books that involves them is because of circumstances of adventures that are extremely hard to find in their current time.
Of course it goes on about Jason have lost his creative flow in writing and becoming irrelevant to the world of book writing and having publish his own book in years, which Goldi can see and knows he keeps procrastinating in making a new story. I did came up with a plot of the story and villain but haven't fully put the pieces together. Now, I have to wait for what Shrek 5 is going to be about and work around it.
Like I said, please let me know what you guys want to see in my version of Shrek 5 based on the potential idea reveal that I told you guys and give me what you all want to see in the fifth story of The Strange Family between Jason and Felicia. See you all in the next chapter. Yowie Wowie!.
