"See," Clint winced as Laura felt at his wound. "You were worried for nothing. Can't even feel the difference, can you?"
"If they're sleeping in there, some of them are gonna have to double up," Laura said, pulling Clint's shirt back down.
"Yeah, that's not gonna sell."
"What about Nat and Dr. Banner?" Laura asked, picking up her coat as they moved to the closet. "How long has that been going on?"
"Has what?"
"You know, you are so cute."
"Nat and Banner?"
"I'll explain when you're older... Hawkeye."
"Well, okay," Clint said, throwing on a robe.
"It's bad, right? Nat seems really shaken."
"Well, Ultron has these allies. These, uh, kids. They're punks, really... but they carry a big damn stick. And Nat took a serious hit."
"What about that teenage girl you have with you?"
"So that's Jen. During our assault on Strucker's fortress, she just randomly showed up and helped us. But the thing is that since we've known her, despite her age, she's really proven herself to be as great of a hero as she claims she is. She's really been helpful with us at every turn fighting Ultron. Tony and Steve are really happy to have her on the team."
"Wow. She sounds amazing."
"You should've seen her in action. But in all seriousness, those two need to be taught a lesson."
"Well, let that someone be you. You know I totally support your Avenging. I couldn't be prouder," Laura said before looking out the window to see Tony, Steve and Jen outside. "But I see those guys, those gods you're among and..."
"You don't think they need me."
"Actually, I think they do. And that's a lot scarier. They're a mess."
"Yeah. But I guess they're my mess."
"You need to be sure that this team is really a team. And that they all have your back and each others'. Especially the new girl."
Clint sighed and stood up as he looked down to his wife.
"Things are changing for us," Laura said, looking down at her swollen belly. "In a few months' time, you and me are gonna be outnumbered. I need... just be sure."
"Yes, ma'am," Clint smiled, giving his wife a kiss and she felt at his wound.
"I can feel the difference."
Elsewhere, at a U-Gin Genetics Research Lab in Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Cho spoke with her subordinates as she removed her jacket before walking into her lab... only to be met face to face with Ultron, now occupying a new main body.
"Scream and your entire staff dies."
Dr. Cho gasped before she shut herself up.
"I could've killed you, Helen, the night we met. I didn't."
"Do you expect a thank-you note?"
"I expect you to know why."
"The Cradle," Dr. Cho realized, looking down at the device as Ultron played a recording of her and Tony's conversation.
"This is the next big thing, Tony."
"This is the next me."
"But the Regeneration Cradle prints tissue. It can't build a living body."
"It can. You can. You simply lack the materials," Ultron threatened, moving to Dr. Cho as two of his sentries walked up and aimed their weapons at her before one of them presented the cylinder of vibranium to her and another one showed Loki's scepter to her and pierced her heart with it, instantly corrupting her mind. "You're a brilliant woman, Helen. But we all have room to improve."
At the Barton residence, Nat looked on as Jen sat in a chair nearby, strumming a guitar to herself as she muttered some words to herself.
Nat flashed back at the memory of the Red Room flashback at the hands of Scarlet Witch.
Elsewhere in the house, after taking a shower, Bruce was going through the same thing as he was shaving. As he left the bathroom, he was met face to face with Nat as Jen continued strumming.
"I didn't realize you were waiting," he said.
"I would've joined you, but, uh... it didn't seem like the right time," Nat faltered.
"The others used up all the hot water."
"I should've joined you."
"Missed our window."
"Didn't we?"
Bruce sighed as he folded the towel in his hands and threw a shirt on.
"The world just saw the Hulk. The real Hulk for the first time. You know I have to leave."
"And you assume that I have to stay?"
"Well, someone has to look over the kid."
"I, uh, had this dream," Nat said. "The kind that seems normal at the time, but when you wake..."
"What did you dream?"
"That I was an Avenger. That I was anything more than the assassin they made me."
"I think you're being too hard on yourself."
"Oh, Bruce. And here, I was hoping that was your job," Nat said, leaning in closer to Bruce.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm running with it. With you," she said, cupping Bruce's face. "If running is the plan, as far as you want."
"Are you out of your mind?" Bruce asked, walking away from her.
"I want you to understand that, um..."
"Natasha, where can I go? Where in the world am I not a threat?"
"You're not a threat to me."
"Are you sure? Even if didn't just... There's no future with me. I can't have this. Kids. Do the math, I physically can't."
"...Neither can I."
At that point, Jen snuck up and peered by the hallway into the room, eavesdropping. That was when she put a hand to her mouth in shock.
"In the Red Room where I was trained, where I was raised, um... they have a graduation ceremony. They sterilize you. It's efficient. One less thing to worry about. The one thing that might matter more than a mission. They strip you of it. It makes everything easier. Even killing."
Bruce only gave a shocked look at that as Jen quietly walked off, putting a hand to her forehead to try in vain to clear her mind of what she just heard about her new friend.
"Still think you're the only monster on the team?"
"So... we disappear?"
Outside, Tony and Steve chopped wood in the backyard as Jen walked up to them, still reeling from what she just overheard Bruce and Nat talking about.
"Hey, Jen," Steve said as Jen sat down on a tree stump by them and started meditating, floating off the ground. "What's wrong?"
"I just overheard something I probably shouldn't have," Jen said. "Let's not talk about it."
Steve nodded as Tony looked to him.
"Thor not say where he was going for answers?"
"Sometimes, my teammates don't tell me things," Steve said, looking to Clint talking with Cooper on the porch as Jen fiddled with her Ultimatrix, trying to plan things out for their next battle with Ultron and the twins. "I was kind of hoping Thor would be the exception."
"Yeah, give him time," Tony said. "You, Jen and Nat told us your stories, but we don't know what the Maximoff kid showed him."
Jen walked up and Tony gave the axe to her and she gave a deep breath before she hoisted the axe over her shoulder as Tony placed a log on the tree stump.
"Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I'm stronger than I look," Jen said before she gave a slash to the log, splitting it in two instantly.
"'Earth's mightiest heroes, huh?" Steve asked. "They pulled us apart like cotton candy, even with the extra help."
"Well, it seems like you two walked away alright," Tony said.
"Is that a problem?" Jen asked, raising an eyebrow before forming a mana sword and slashing another log in half.
"I don't trust someone without a dark side," Tony said before chopping another log. "Call me old fashioned."
"I have a dark side that I'm not proud of," Jen assured. "I literally killed one of our most dangerous enemies yet before me and my team were separated."
"Well, shut me up," Tony said, rubbing Jen's head, causing her to blush in embarrassment.
"And as for me, let's just say you haven't seen my dark side yet."
"You know Ultron is trying to tear us apart, right?" Tony asked the pair.
"Well, I guess you'd know," Steve said, chopping another log. "Whether you'd tell us is a bit of a question."
"Banner and I were doing research."
"That would affect the team."
"That would end the team! Isn't that the mission? Isn't that the 'Why We Fight?' So we can end the fight. So we get to go home!"
Steve only ripped a large log apart with his bare hands at that and Jen's eyes widened.
"Do you think this is just a hobby for me, Tony?" Jen asked as she stepped forward. "Being a superhero isn't a hobby. This goes for me and my brother. It's my life. Okay. This is my life. I've accepted that a long time ago."
"And what neither of you know is this," Steve said. "Every time someone tries to win a war before it starts, innocent people die. Every time."
Jen looked down at this as Laura walked up to her and laid a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm sorry," she said. "Mr. Stark, Clint said you wouldn't mind, but our tractor doesn't seem to want to start at all. I thought maybe you might..."
"Yeah, I'll give her a kick," Tony said as Jen walked up.
"Maybe I can help a bit," she said as she joined hmi.
"Don't take from my pile," Tony told Steve.
Tony and Jen then entered the barn and walked up to the John Deere tractor as Jen nodded and used her telekinesis to open the engine up.
"Hello, Deere," Tony said, starting to get to work. "Tell me everything. What ails you?"
"Do me a favor," a familiar voice said as Jen suddenly shot her head in its direction as a bald African American man with a black eyepatch and a goatee walked out from the other side of the barn. "Try not to bring it to life."
"Why, Ms. Barton, you little minx," Tony sighed as Jen walked up to him.
"Um, how are you sir?"
"And you would be, little lady?"
"Um, my name's Jen Tennyson. I'm from another dimension and I'm a pretty famous superhero on my Earth too."
"Oh, I know," the man said. "Nick Fury. We've been watching you since you arrived in Sokovia."
"I get it, Maria Hill called you, right?" Tony asked. "Was she ever not working for you?"
"Artificial intelligence," Fury said, changing the subject. "You never even hesitated."
"I tried to warn him, but clearly he's so much smarter than all of us," Jen said. "I mean, I am just a dumb teenager after all."
"Look, Fury. It's been a really long day, like Eugene O'Neill long. So how about we skip to the part where you're useful."
"Look me in the eye and tell me you're going to shut him down."
"You're not the director of us."
"Ah, I'm not the director of anybody. I'm just an old man who cares very much about you. And you," Fury said, turning to Jen, who's eyes widened at that. "You're clearly very passionate about helping people, even if you're not from this universe."
"I'm still human," Jen said, as she felt the mana oozing from her fingertips. "Or at least half human."
"And I'm the man who killed the Avengers," Tony said. "I saw it. I didn't tell the team. How could I? I saw them all dead, Nick. I felt it. The whole world along with them too. It was all because of me. I wasn't ready. I didn't do all I could."
"That Maximoff girl, she's working you, Stark," Fury assured. "She's playing on your fear.
"She got to me too, but I was able to fight it because I'm already very experienced in magic myself," Jen said, sending a mana tendril out from her hand that closed the engine of the tractor.
"I wasn't tricked. I was shown. It wasn't a nightmare, it was my legacy. The end of the path I started us on."
"You've come up with some pretty impressive inventions, Tony," Fury said, standing up from the hay bales. "War isn't one of them."
"I watched my friends die. You think that'd be as bad as it gets, right?" Tony asked, going back to work on the tractor. "Nope. It wasn't the worst part."
"No. The worst part is that you didn't."
Tony and Jen nodded as Jen thought on how her friend and her family must have been feeling wherever they were as well.
"You'll be reunited with them soon enough, Jen," she told herself. "For now, this is the world that needs your help. That's what matters now until you can get back home."
Elsewhere, Thor stood in front of the Royal Holloway at the University of London, disguising himself with a hoodie, watching a class leave the building, led by his old friend Dr. Erik Selvig.
"I like the look," Selvig said. "If you're going for inconspicuous, though, it's a near miss."
"I need your help," Thor said.
"It's nice to be needed."
"It's dangerous."
"Knowing you, I'd be disappointed if it wasn't."
Fury joined the rest of the group in the Barton household as the kids ran around playing as Jen smiled and rolled her eyes as Clint sat by her as she strummed at his guitar.
"You're pretty good," she said.
"I've been getting a lot of deals back home since our team's secret was revealed," Jen said. "In addition to being a full-time superhero, I'm also a part-time model, singer and actress."
"I can tell that you're talented," Clint said, rubbing the teenager's head playfully.
"Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time," Fury told the Avengers as he did the dishes. "My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of vibranium he ran off with, I don't think it's just one thing."
Nat nodded as Lila ran up to her and handed her a drawing.
"What about Ultron himself?" Tony asked.
"Oh, he's easy to track. He's everywhere."
"Well, on top of being an artificial intelligence, he has an entire hivemind of robotic bodies," Jen recalled. "Of course he would be. He's not exactly hiding."
"You got it, kid. The guy is multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit. It still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans, though."
"Is he still going after launch codes?" Tony asked.
"Yes, he is. But he's not making any headway."
"I cracked the Pentagon's firewall in high school on a dare."
"Well, I contacted our friends at the Nexus about that," Fury said.
"Nexus?" Steve asked.
"It's the world internet hub in Oslo," Bruce said. "Every byte of data in the world flows through there. Fastest access on Earth."
"So what did they say?" Clint asked, fingering a few darts as Tony removed some from the board.
"He's fixated on the missiles. But the codes are constantly being changed."
"By whom?" Tony asked as he avoided a dart that hit the bullseye and Clint only shrugged at him.
"Party's unknown."
"Do we have an ally?" Nat asked.
"Ultron's got an enemy. That's not the same thing. Still, I'd pay folding money to know who it is."
"I might need to visit Oslo," Tony said. "Find our unknown."
"Well, this is good times, boss," Nat said cheekily. "But I was kind of hoping when I saw you that you'd have more than that."
"I do. I have you," Fury said, getting shocked looks from everyone in the room. "Back in the day, I had eyes everywhere. Ears, everywhere else. You kids had all the tech you could dream up. And here we are back on Earth with nothing but our wit and our will to save the world. Ultron says that the Avengers are the only thing between him and his mission. And whether or not he admits it, his mission is global destruction."
Jen's eyes widened in horror as she put a hand to her heart, gasping slightly.
"All this, laid in a grave. So stand. Outwit the platinum bastard."
"Steve doesn't like that kind of talk," Jen recalled.
"You know what, Tennyson?" Steve asked as Jen walked up to him and looked up. "You've definitely got that spark of naughtiness in you. Keep it."
"I will," Jen promised, touched.
"So what does he want?" Fury asked.
"To become better," Steve said. "Better than us. He keeps building more and more bodies."
"But they're person bodies," Tony said. "The human form is inefficient. Biologically speaking, we're outmoded."
"Then why does he keep coming back to it?" Jen asked.
"When you two programmed him to protect the human race, you amazingly failed," Nat told Tony and Bruce as Jen buried her face in her hands.
"They don't need to be protected," Bruce said. "They need to evolve."
"What?" Steve asked.
"Ultron's going to evolve," Jen realized.
"How?"
"Has anyone been in contact with Helen Cho?" Bruce asked.
"It's beautiful," Dr. Cho said as the Cradle opened up to reveal the red vibranium body inside. "The vibranium atoms aren't just compatible with the tissue cells, they're binding them. And S.H.I.E.L.D. never even thought to..."
"The most versatile substance on the planet... and they used it to make a Frisbee," Ultron quipped as he gazed at the new body. "Typical of humans. They scratched the surface and never even think to look within."
On the side of the room, one of the sentries used the beam coming from its finger to shatter the jewel at the tip of Loki's scepter and the yellow stone inside floated upwards and into Ultron's hand and he placed it down onto the new body's forehead, instantly merging it with the body.
"I'll take Jen, Natasha and Clint," Steve said as he placed his shield on his back as Tony and Jen walked up.
"Alright," Tony said. "Strictly recon. I'll hit the Neuxs and I'll join you as soon as I can."
"Okay," Jen said as she walked with the two leaders of the Avengers. "But this isn't my first rodeo either, guys. If Ultron's really building a new body from that vibranium, then he'll be more powerful than any of us. Maybe all of us combined. Not to mention, he has Loki's scepter and he can use that power as well."
"An android designed by a robot," Tony said.
"You know, I really miss the days where the weirdest thing science ever created was me," Steve said as Jen chuckled.
"Trust me, I'm half-alien. What could be weirder than that?"
"I'll drop Banner off at the Tower," Fury said, throwing on his coat. "You mind if I borrow Ms. Hill?"
"She's all yours, apparently," Tony said. "What are you gonna do?"
"I don't know. Something dramatic, I hope."
Clint smiled at Laura as he walked off.
"I'm gonna finish reflooring that sunroom as soon as I get back," Clint said.
"Yeah, and then, you'll find another part of the house to tear apart."
"No. It's the last project. I promise," Clint said, laying a kiss on his wife's lips.
Soon, Laura could only watch as the Quinjet set off into the horizon of the rising sun.
Meanwhile, Dr. Selvig led Thor through a large cavern to a body of water in the floor while carrying some sort of box with him.
"So this is it," he said. "The Water of Sight."
"In every realm, there's a reflection," Thor said. "If the water's spirits accept me, I can return to my dream and find what I missed."
"Men who enter that water, the legends don't end well," Selvig warned.
"A hacker who's faster than Ultron?" Tony asked as he stood at the NEXUS Internet Hub in Oslo, Norway. "He could be anywhere. And as this is the center of everything, I'm just a guy looking for a needle in the world's biggest haystack."
"How do you find it?" one of the techs asked.
"It's pretty simple. You bring a magnet. Come and get me."
Thor entered the Water of Sight and focused, breathing deeply as he flashed back to his dream before his body began surging with electricity, sparking wildly as images began rapidly flashing through his head, like Ultron saying 'extinction', a massive impact into the Earth, and Loki's staff breaking apart to form the yellow stone from earlier joining five other multicolored stones. Thor only screamed out at the images flashing through his head.
"Cellular cohesion will take a few hours," Dr. Cho said as she rewired Ultron as Wanda and Pietro entered. "But we can initiate the consciousness stream. We're uploading your cerebral matrix now."
"I can read him," Wanda said to her brother as she looked down at the new red vibranium body. "He's... dreaming."
"I wouldn't call it dreams. It's Ultron's base consciousness. Informational noise. Soon-"
"How soon? I'm not being pushy."
"We're imprinting a physical brain. There are no shortcuts. Even if your magic gem."
Wanda pressed her hands to the case and the same image of the crash into Earth that Thor had seen flashed through her head and she shouted out, collapsing to the ground. Pietro rushed to comfort her as Ultron walked up to them.
"How could you?" a horrified Wanda asked.
"How could I what?"
"You said we would destroy the Avengers. Make a better world."
"It will be better."
"When everyone is dead? How?!"
"That is not... the human race will have every opportunity to improve."
"And if they don't?" Pietro asked.
"Ask Noah."
"You are a madman," Wanda realized, stepping back in horror.
"There were more than a dozen extinction-level events before even the dinosaurs got theirs!" Ultron assured. "When the Earth starts to settle... God throws a stone at it. And believe me, He's winding up. We have to evolve. There's no room for the weak."
"And who decides for the weak?" Pietro asked as his sister made a few hand gestures and sent a small wave of energy to Dr. Cho's head, freeing her from the scepter's control.
"Life. Life always decides."
And then, Ultron heard an approaching engine and looked up from the Cradle.
"There's incoming. The Quinjet. We have to move."
"That's not a problem," Dr. Cho said as she typed some commands into the computer and the upload paused.
"Ugh," Ultron groaned before blasting at her with a laser from his hands as Pietro grabbed Wanda's hand and ran off. "Wait, guys!"
Ultron then turned his sentries' blasters on the remaining scientists and killed them in about two seconds flat.
"They'll understand. When they see, they'll understand. I just need a little more time."
Ultron then removed the cable from his head, stopping the connection to the Cradle entirely before he commanded his sentries to wheel the Cradle out of the lab.
Jen and Captain America jumped the railing aas they left the Quinjet and saw the lab before turning to each other.
"Okay. Show some confidence, Jen," she said to herself. "This is your big chance to prove to yourself that you're every bit as amazing a superhero without Ben as you are with him."
"You've already proven it to us, kid," Cap said. "Two minutes. Stay close."
Upon entering the lab, the pair ran up to the wreckage of the lab and ran up to Dr. Cho.
"Dr. Cho!" Jen said, helping the injured doctor up, healing her with her mana.
"He's uploading himself into the body," Dr. Cho told Cap and Jen, causing their eyes to widen in horror.
"Where?" Cap asked.
"The real power is inside the Cradle. The gem. It's power is uncontainable. You can't just blow it up. You two have to get the Cradle to Stark."
"But first, we have to find it," Jen noted.
"Go."
"Did you guys copy that?" Cap asked Hawkeye and Black Widow.
"We did," Hawkeye said.
"I've got a private jet taking off across town," Black Widow said. "No manifest. That could be him."
Hawkeye gazed town to see a blue flatbed truck cruising down the street.
"There. It's a truck from the lab. It's right above you, Cap, Jen. On the loop by the bridge. It's them. You got three with the Cradle, one in the cab. I could take out the driver."
"Negative!" Cap said as he climb a building and Jen followed him by ascending on her mana platforms. "If that thing crashes, the gem could level the city."
"The plan is that we need to draw out Ultron," Jen said as she adjusted her Ultimatrix as she and Cap looked down on the approaching truck and nodded as she slammed down the core and transformed into AeroForce, cawing out as she grabbed Cap's hand and flew him down to land on the truck's roof.
"No, no, no, no," Ultron muttered as Cap crawled down to the truck's back door. "Leave me alone!"
Ultron blasted a laser from his hand that caused the door to burst open and Cap was hung up, dangling above the highway.
AeroForce nodded and flew down before using her talons to slash the bolts holding it in place, creating a ramp that Cap landed on as both looked into the back of the truck.
"Well, he's definitely unhappy!" AeroForce squawked.
"Let's try to keep him that way," Cap said.
"You two aren't a match for him, guys," Hawkeye warned.
"Thanks, Barton. That's reassuring," Cap said.
Ultron disconnected the cable from his head again, once again pausing the upload as he turned to the open truck to see AeroForce and Cap looming outside. Just as they were about to enter, Ultron sent a blast of energy outwards that sent them both falling back into another car.
On the ground level in Seoul, the civilians looked on as the Quinjet approached the scene as the truck and cab left the highway and made its way into the city streets and Cap and AeroForce recovered as AeroForce took Cap's hand and hoisted him back onto the roof of the truck and both glared on as Ultron flew up ot them and landed in front of them, staring them down.
"You know what's in that Cradle?" he asked as Cap deflected a blast with his shield. "The power to make real change. And that terrifies you."
"I wouldn't call it a comfort!" Cap said as he tossed his shield at Ultron as AeroForce hit her Ultimatrix symbol and transformed into Mewmoth, sending out her various magic blasts at Ultron as he dodged and fired his energy blasts at her and Cap as she hovered in the air and dodged his energy blasts.
Cap tossed his shield to Ultron, which bounced off of him as Mewmoth caught it in mid air and gave it a six-handed toss to really nail Ultron in the head.
"Stop it!" Ultron shouted, tossing the shield away into the streets before he blasted Cap off of the truck, sending him dangling from the roof.
Ultron's sentries also shot their arms out of the windows, trying to grab at Cap.
On the Quinjet, Black Widow got ready as she pressed some controls on a large capsule that opened to reveal an elaborate motorcycle in the cargo bay as the hatch opened.
"We got a window," Hawkeye informed. "Four, three... give him hell."
Black Widow nodded as she got onto the motorcycle and leaped out of the cargo bay and into the streets, chasing after Ultron's truck.
"I'm always picking up after you boys," she muttered as she leaned over and picked up Cap's shield.
"They're heading under the overpass," Hawkeye said. "I got no shot."
"Which way?"
"Hard right... now."
Black Widow then made a sharp right turn to chase after the truck as fast as she could, startling the people in the various shops she was speeding past as the struggle between Cap, Mewmoth and Ultron continued. After she finally caught up with the truck, she slid under the truck's space between the road and tossed the shield back to Cap and he slammed the shield into Ultron's head as Jen sent a cupcake blast outwards that blasted Ultron... not realizing as it ricocheted into Nat's bike, causing her to briefly lose control before she righted herself.
Black Widow looked up as Mewmoth as she put her hands over her mouth in shock.
"Sorry, Nat! Not used to doing this without my brother!" she called.
"Clearly."
Ultron spat out as he used his magnetic energy on a chunk of the road, sending a large mass of concrete upwards and stopping Black Widow in her tracks. She then righted herself before speeding back after the truck, avoiding the energy blasts from Ultron's sentries.
Black Widow then rode her bike up the steps of the mall, sending the shoppers scattering in a panic.
"Out of the way! Coming through!" she shouted.
Ultron shouted out as he blasted Cap off of the truck and into a car. Cap looked on as Ultron used his magnetic pull to lift a massive amount of the road up from its foundation, sending Cap flying off the car as the others in the road were sent skittering into the road, crashing everywhere as Cap swiftly avoided the debris and landed on the underside of a flying truck.
Ultron glared as Mewmoth flew outwards and conjured a magic tentacle outwards that wrapped around Cap and she used it to toss him directly into Ultron.
"Come on!" he shouted as Mewmoth dropped down and morphed into Codonite, pulling two clubs out of her gem as she and Cap continued the brawl with Ultron.
"Clint!" Black Widow shouted as she continued chasing the truck from the rooftops. "Think you can draw out the guards?"
"Let's find out," Hawkeye said as he steered the Quinjet to fly over the truck.
"Beep beep!" Black Widow shouted as she sped past the marketplace.
Hawkeye then activated the ship's gatling guns, pelting Ultron with a massive amount of bullets. This obviously drew out the two sentries to take car of the jet. Hawkeye then flew the jet further into the sky as the sentries continued blasting at it, trying to get through the bulletproof glass. Hawkeye retaliated by flying the jet in a corkscrew, sending the sentries flying off of it.
Elsewhere in the city, Wanda and Pietro watched this action go down on a TV report as they rested in the marketplace as Nat sped past them and finally caught up with the truck on the highway.
Codonite shouted out as she blasted a blast of energy to Ultron, sending him crashing into one of the road's support pillars with a smirk as Ultron flew back at her and tackled her into an adjacent train.
Hawkeye also noticed as the two sentries backed off of him and flew back towards our heroes.
"They're heading back towards you. So whatever you guys are gonna do, do it now."
Codonite groaned as Cap leaped into the bus and tossed his shield at Ultron, who simply caught it and tossed it back at him. Ultron flew at the pair as they leaped over him and Codonite generated a pink bubble around the pair to block one of Ultron's energy blasts.
"I'm going in," Black Widow said as she approached the back of the truck to retrieve the Cradle. "Cap, Jen, can you keep him occupied?"
"What do you think we've been doing?" Codonite asked with a pant.
Black Widow then leaped off of her bike and into the back of the truck, looking down at the Cradle. Obviously, this was just when the Ultron Sentries flew down to stop her and grabbed both sides of the truck's bottom and started lifting as the truck approached a police blockade. Black Widow shouted out as she started fiddling with the Cradle's controls.
The Ultron Sentries then activated all the rocket boosters they had within them, lifting the truck's cargo from the front and Black Widow shouted out as she was tossed around from the sudden vertigo.
"Okay," Hawkeye said as he flew the jet after the cargo. "The package is airborne. I have a clean shot."
"Negative," Black Widow said. "I am still in the truck."
"How are you-"
"I'm sending the package to you."
"How do you want me to take it?"
"Uh, you might wish you hadn't asked that."
Both Cap and Codonite shouted out as they blocked Ultron's powerful blows with their shields as Ultron obviously showed no signs of slowing down.
Just when all hope seemed lost, Quicksilver suddenly rushed in and slammed Ultron into the back of the bus. Ultron tried to attack, when suddenly, the support bars in the train glowed red with Scarlet Witch's telekinetic glow as she flew into the bus as well.
"Please," Ultron begged. "Don't do this."
"What choice do we have?" Scarlet Witch asked.
Ultron sighed and fired his lasers at her, which she avoided as the lasers blasted through the front of the train and he flew out after the package.
"We lost him!" Cap shouted as he and Codonite bounded over the debris.
"Clint, Nat, he's heading your way!" Codonite called into her communicator as they ran into the engine room and started fiddling with the controls.
"Nat, we gotta go," Hawkeye said.
Black Widow nodded and slashed the support bindings on the Cradle as the Quinjet lined up beside her and she stuck an adhesive bomb onto the back of the truck that started ticking down and the Russian assassin kicked off as she and the Cradle began sliding down before landing in the back of the Quinjet.
However, Ultron caught up in time and grabbed her leg, sending her falling out of the sky.
"Nat!"
The train, meanwhile, flew off of the tracks, sending all the passengers into a panic.
"Cap, Jen, you see Nat?"
"Clint, if you have the package, get it to Stark! Just go!" Cap shouted.
"Do you have eyes on Nat?"
"JUST GO!" Codonite shouted.
"Damn it," Hawkeye said as he blasted off into the distance.
"Civilians are in our path," Cap said as Quicksivler nodded and rushed out of the train to clear the path and Codonite slapped her Ultimatrix symbol and morphed back into Jen and she stood by Scarlet Witch. "Can you two stop this thing?"
Both mages began focusing as Cap slammed into the walls of the train with his shield before bracing himself as he put his shield in front of him as the train crashed through a wall, sending him flying back to the ground.
Jen and Scarlet Witch nodded and both shouted out, their pink and red telekinetic auras bracing around the train as it began slowing as Quicksilver hurriedly grabbed all the civilians in its path and ran them out of the way. A few seconds later, the train finally skidded to a stop as both Jen and Scarlet Witch collapsed from exhaustion and the passengers all exited the holes safely as Cap sighed out in relief.
"You okay?" Scarlet Wtich asked as she approached her brother, who breathed out heavily.
"I'm fine," he said as Jen and Cap approached. "I just need to take a minute."
"We're very tempted not to give you one," Cap said.
"The Cradle," Scarlet Witch asked, concerned. "Did you get it?"
"Stark will take care of it," Jen assured.
"No, he won't," Scarlet Witch said, shaking her head.
"You don't know what you're talking about," Cap said. "Stark's not crazy."
"He will do anything to make things right."
Cap and Jen gave each other a glance before they decided to call Tony.
"Stark, come in."
No response.
"Stark? Anyone on comms?" Jen asked.
"Ultron can't tell the difference between saving the world and destroying it," Scarlet Witch told Jen. "Where do you think he gets that?"
After the team arrived back at Avengers' Tower, Tony walked into the lab as Clint set up the Cradle.
"Anything on Nat?" Bruce asked.
"I haven't heard," Tony said. "But she's obviously alive or else Ultron would be rubbing our faces in it."
"This thing is sealed tight," Clint said, examining the Cradle.
"We're gonna need to access the program, tear it down from within," Bruce said.
"Clint, any chance Natasha might leave you a message outside the internet?" Tony asked Clint. "Old school spy stuff?"
"There are some nets I can cast. Yeah, I'll find her," Clint said before leaving the lab to try to locate Nat.
"I can work on tissue degeneration if you could fry whatever operation system Cho implanted."
"Yeah, about that..."
Bruce gave a look of realization as he stepped back. "No."
"You have to trust me."
"Kind of don't."
"Our ally, the guy protecting the world's nuclear codes?" Tony asked as he flipped a card and revealed the core of a fully operation J.A.R.V.I.S. "I found him."
"Hello, Dr. Banner."
"Ultron didn't go after J.A.R.V.I.S. because he was angry. He attacked him because he was scared of what he can do," Tony explained. "So J.A.R.V.I.S. went underground. Scattered, dumped his memory. But not his protocols. He didn't even know he was in there until I pieced him together."
Bruce only scoffed. "So you want me to help you put J.A.R.V.I.S. into this thing?"
"No! Of course not. I want to help you put J.A.R.V.I.S. into this thing."
Bruce only sighed and shook his head.
"We're out of my field here. You know bio-organics better than anyone."
"And you just assume that J.A.R.V.I.S.' operational matrix can beat Ultron's?"
"J.A.R.V.I.S. has been beating him from inside without knowing it. This is the opportunity. We can create Ultron's perfect self without the homicidal glitches he thinks are his winning personality. We have to."
"I believe it's worth a go," J.A.R.V.I.S. said.
"I'm in a loop!" Bruce shouted. "I'm caught in a time loop. This is exactly where it all went wrong. When Jen finds out about this, she's going to have a cow!"
"I know. I know what everyone's gonna say. But they're already saying it. We're mad scientists. We're monsters, buddy. We've gotta own it. Make a stand."
Bruce only looked down and shook his head.
"It's not a loop. It's the end of the line."
Meanwhile, at Strucker's base, Ultron held Nat captive while his machines built even more sentries. Nat came too and looked at the horror around her.
"I wasn't sure you'd wake up," Ultron said to her. "I hoped you would. I wanted to show you. I don't have anyone else."
Nat only groaned as she looked at her captor.
"I think a lot about meteors. The purity in them. Boom! The end. Start again. The world made clean for the new man to rebuild. I was meant to be new. I was meant to be beautiful. The world would have looked to the sky and seen hope. Seen mercy. Instead, they'll look up in horror because of you."
Ultron approached with a furious glance on his face as Nat scrambled where she stood.
"You've wounded me. I give you full marks for that. But, like the man said, what doesn't kill me..."
Ultron's head suddenly burst apart as a molten hand burst through it before his body was ripped apart as a new body plated in vibranium flew in, taking its place and scaring Nat.
"...just makes me stronger."
Ultron then sealed Nat in the cell by closing the door shut.
Later, as Tony and Bruce were uploading Vision into the new body.
Nat, however, worked on her communicator while inside her prison cell, causing Clint to pick up a signal. Not saying anything, she rapidly pressed a clicker in Morse code. Clint then sprang to action and typed in the coordinates of the signal, which was revealed to be Strucker's hideout.
"Okay," Tony said. "This framework is not compatible."
"The genetic coding tower is at 97%" Bruce said. "You have got to upload that schematic in the next three minutes."
"I'm only going to say this once," Cap said as he stepped in with Jen and the twins.
"How about nonce?" Tony asked.
"Shut it down!" Jen shouted.
"Nope. Not gonna happen."
"You don't know what you're doing!"
"Oh, and you two do?" Bruce asked, turning to Wanda. "She's not in your heads?"
"I know you're angry," Wanda started.
"Oh, we're way past that. I could choke the life out of you and never change a shade."
"Banner," Jen said. "After everything that's happened..."
"Is nothing compared to what's coming!" Tony shouted.
"You don't know what's in there!" Wanda countered.
"This isn't a game!" Steve shouted as he turned to Pietro, who broke off into a rapid spring and unplugged all the cables from the Cradle.
"No, no. Go on. You were saying?"
Suddenly, a gunshot was heard and Pietro looked to see a bullet slowly rise up in front of him. The glass floor beneath him suddenly shattered and he collapsed into the communication room where Clint was waiting for him.
"Pietro!" Wanda and Jen shouted.
"What?" Clint asked. "You didn't see that coming?"
"I'm rerouting the upload," Tony said, beginning to power the Cradle again and Jen shouted out as she blasted a mana bolt his way and he dodged out of the way before attaching his gauntlet and blasted Jen away from him through a glass wall before he grabbed Steve's shield as he tosesd it to her and sent it back to him, knocking him out.
Wanda began to summon her aura between her hands before she was put into a headlock by Bruce.
"Go ahead. Piss me off."
This skirmish continued for a few more seconds before everything was interrupted as, without warning, Thor suddenly appeared, leaped on top of the Cradle and generated a ton of electricity into Mjolnir before giving the Cradle a massive shock, instantly powering it back up.
After a few seconds, the Cradle burst open and the being inside rose from it, stunning everyone present at the sight of him.
The being floated for a few seconds before flying at Thor, who grabbed him and tossed him through several windows, but the being stopped himself just in time. Jen approached on her mana platforms as the being looked out the window.
Thor readied Mjolnir but stopped as nothing seemed to happen. Everyone only watched as the being looked out the window at the city of New York below.
"I am sorry. That was... odd," the being said as he joined the Avengers on the ground. "Thank you."
Thor sighed as the being generated a golden cape to match Thor's.
"Thor," Steve said as the God of Thunder turned to him. "You helped create this?"
"I've had a vision. A whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life and in the center is that," Thor explained, pointing at the gem in the being's forehead.
"What? The gem?" Jen asked.
"That's no ordinary gem. That is the Mind Stone. It's one of the six Infinity Stones. The greatest power in the universe, unparalleled in its destructive capabilities."
"But if that's true, then why would you bring-" Steve began.
"Because Stark is right."
"Oh, it's definitely the end times," Bruce said, looking to Jen and then to the being in front of them.
"The Avengers cannot hope to defeat Ultron."
"Not alone," the being said, stepping forward.
"Why does your Vision sound like J.A.R.V.I.S.?" Steve asked, raising an eyebrow.
"We reconfigured J.A.R.V.I.S.' matrix to create something new," Tony explained.
"I've had my fill of new." Steve said.
"You think I'm a child of Ultron," Vision inquired.
"You're not?" Jen asked.
"I'm not Ultron. I am not J.A.R.V.I.S. I am... I am."
"I looked in your head and saw annihilation," Wanda said, stepping forward.
"Look again."
"Her seal of approval means jack to me," Clint said.
"Their powers, the horror in our heads, Ultron himself," Thor said. "They all came from the Mind Stone. And they're nothing compared to what it can potentially unleash. But with it on our side..."
"Is it?" Steve asked.
"No, for real. Are you on our side?" Jen asked.
"I don't think it's that simple," Vision said.
"Well, it better get simple real soon," Clint said.
"I am on the side of life. Ultron isn't. He will end it all."
"Besides my Ultimatrix, my powers literally revolve around life energy," Jen said as she faced Vision with a smile. "Then I guess I'm on your side too."
"Then what's Ultron waiting for?" Tony asked.
"You."
"Where?" Pietro asked.
"Sokovia," Clint said. "He's got Nat there too."
"If we were wrong about you," Bruce said, stepping up to Vision. "If you're the monster that Ultron made you to be..."
"What will you do?" Vision asked as the Avengers fell silent. "I don't want to kill Ultron. He's unique and he's in pain."
Jen gulped as she remembered that description very much fitting one of her old enemies. One that terrified her and her brother to their very cores.
"But that pain will roll over the Earth. So he must be destroyed. Every form he's built, every trace of his presence on the net. We have to act now. And not one of us can even hope to succeed without all of the others."
Everyone nodded at that.
"Maybe I am a monster. I don't think I'd know if I were one. I'm not what you are... and not what you intended. So there may be no way for me to make you trust me."
And then, much to the Avengers' shock, Vision casually grabbed Mjolnir and handed it to Thor.
"But we need to go."
As Vision departed, everyone stood stunned as Thor patted Mjolnir against his hand and slapped Tony on the back. "Right. Good work."
"Three minutes," Steve said to the Avengers. "Get what you need."
Everyone grabbed various gear and suited up as Jen adjusted her Ultimatrix and nodded to herself, pleased with the results as Steve walked up to her and smiled as he placed something in her hand.
"You may want to hold on to this," he said as he lifted his hand to reveal a red and blue Avengers badge.
"No way," Jen said. "Seriously?"
"As far as I'm concerned, Jen, you've more than proven yourselves to us. I'd be a fool not to make you an official Avenger after all you've done to protect this Earth when you've only been on it for a few days."
"Thank you," Jen said with a smile as she attached the badge to a spot on her belt and then she nodded with a smile.
Tony, meanwhile, went through various chips in his hands before settling on one labeled F.R.I.D.A.Y. and inserted it into his system's mainframe and it flared to life.
"Good evening, boss," F.R.I.D.A.Y. said.
Pietro pulled on a long-sleeved blue and gray shirt before tossing a long red jacket to his sister, who caught it and smiled at him slyly.
"It's very unlikely that we're all gonna get through this," Tony said to Steve, Bruce and Jen. "If even one tin soldier is left standing, we've lost. There's gonna be blood on the floor."
"I got no plans tonight," Steve said.
"I get first crack at the big guy. Iron Man's the one he's waiting for."
"That's true. He hates you the most," Vision said as he walked by and Jen smirked.
"I call dibs on second crack."
"Ultron knows we're coming," Steve said. "Odds are, we'll be riding into heavy fire. And that's what we signed up for. But the people of Sokovia, they didn't. So our priority is getting them out. All they want is to live their lives in peace... but that's not gonna happen today. But we can do our best to protect them. And we can get the job done. We find out what Ultron's been building, we find Romanoff and we clear the field. Keep the fight between us."
Jen rubbed her hands together as she stood up and looked to the Avengers with a serious look on her face. "Ultron thinks we're monsters. He thinks we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't just about beating him anymore. It's about whether he's right."
Before the Quinjet landed in Sokovia, Quicksilver and VLOCT ran into the police station as Quicksilver turned to all the present cops.
"We are under attack!" he shouted. "Clear the city! Now!"
The cops didn't pay the two much mind as VLOCT groaned and slapped her Ultimatrix symbol to become Inferno before shooting a small beam of fire from her hand that instantly got the attention of the police, prompting them to do as the two heroes said.
"Get off your asses," the Pyronite ordered.
As this happened, Scarlet Witch stood in the streets, working her magic as she sent her red energy outwards that snaked throughout the streets and entered the local residences. Wanda smirked as she manipulated the minds of the Sokovians all around her to evacuate their homes and file out into the streets.
In Strucker's fortress, Thor smashed a hole in the wall to explore Ultron's project as Bruce moved in behind him to find Nat.
"Natasha!" Bruce shouted, getting Nat's attention as she stood in her cell.
"Bruce?" the assassin asked as Bruce moved up to her cell.
"You alright?"
"Yeah."
"The team's in the city. It's about to light up."
"Oh. I don't suppose you found a key lying around somewhere."
"Yeah. I did," Bruce said, holding up a large HYDRA gun and blasted the lock on the door open and Nat opened it and walked outisde.
"So what's our play?"
"I'm here to get you to safety."
"But the job's not finished."
"We can help with the evacuation, but I can't be in a fight near civilians. And you've done plenty. Our fight is over."
"So what? We just disappear?"
The Avengers were all moving through the streets of Sokovia, escorting as many civilians out of the city as they could. Most of them were surprised to see a teenage girl giving them orders, but she quickly fired a blast of mana into the air to warn them she meant business and they instantly got the message.
"Your man's in the church, boss," F.R.I.D.A.Y. said to Iron Man as he flew above the city. "I think he's waiting for you."
Iron Man got the message and landed in the church, where, indeed, the mad A.I. was waiting for him.
"Come to confess your sins?" Ultron asked.
"I don't know," Iron Man said. "How much time you got?"
"More than you."
And with that, Ultron stepped out of the shadows, revealing his new vibranium armor to his creator.
"Um, have you been juicing up? Little vibranium cocktail? You're looking, I don't wanna say 'puffy...'"
"You're stalling to protect the people."
"Well, that is the mission. Did you forget?"
"I've moved beyond your mission. I'm free."
With that, something drilled its way out of the center of the church and what seemed to be a massive thruster emerged from the ground, much to Tony's shock.
"What? You think you were the only one stalling?"
"There's the rest of the vibranium," F.R.I.D.A.Y. examined. "Function, still unclear."
"This is how you end, Tony. This is peace in my time."
As this monologue was going on, hundreds and hundreds of Ultron sentries burst out of the streets, the waterways, pretty much every spot that Sokovia rested on was now swarming with sentries and they started flying through the air, blasting at everything in sight, sending the remaining civilians into a panic.
"Go!" Captain America shouted as a sentry landed by him on the bridge and he started brawling with it, blocking every blast with his shield as Hawkeye sniepd the ones incoming for him with his arrows before he turned around and stabbed another sentry in the head with another arrow.
"Get off the bridge!" Scarlet Witch shouted as she ushered the civilians forwards.
"Time to rock these things like a hurricane," Jen said as she slammed the core down and transformed into Rockette and spun her guitar pick in her hand with a determined nod as she ran forwards and blasted a massive soundwave from her guitar that sent several of Ultron's drones flying before they were destroyed by Hawkeyes arrows.
As Scarlet Witch was cornered by a sentry, she put up a red energy shield in front of them that protected them from the blasts.
"Run!" she shouted before her shield was broken.
"Ultron," a foreboding voice said as Ultron's main body looked up to see the descending Vision enter from the skylight and he flew up to meet him.
"My Vision. They really did take everything from me."
"You set the terms. You can change them."
"Alright," Ultron said as he grabbed Vision's head, but Vision retaliated and grabbed his head and started using his energy on him, overriding something in his circuitry.
The battle continued raging on as everyone outside began ripping apart the Ultron sentries with everything they had in them. Even Thor was fighting off the sentries as they moved at him from inside the fortress.
Quicksilver moved in quickly as he spotted some sentries trying to get at the fleeing Sokovians and he simply cracked his neck and mowed them all into pieces with his intense speed.
"Friday?" Iron Man asked. "The Vision?"
"Boss, it's working. He's burning Ultron out of the net. He won't escape through there."
Ultron groaned as Vision finally let go of his head and flew back.
"You shut me out," Ultron grunted as he grabbed Vision and started wrestling with him and slammed him into the ground.. "You think I care? You take away my world, I take away yours."
Ultron then twisted the top of the control console to activate it.
Thor moved further into the lab and his eyes widened as far as they could go as the entire ceiling started firing up like a rocket about to take off. Thor braced himself as the celiing started to rise. Outside, a massive circle started carving itself in the streets and even the waterways.
Cap ran ahead as he grabbed a sentry and tossed it to Rockette, who sliced it in half with her axe as they looked on to see the bridge collapsing and their jaws dropped. Right before their eyes, the city of Sokovia was rising from the ground and into the air.
"F.R.I.D.A.Y.?" Iron Man asked.
"Sokovia is going for a ride."
The Sokovians on the ground below the rising city looked up and saw several civilians fall to their deaths from the edges as several homes and buildings were destroyed in the madness.
"Do you see the beauty of it?" Ultron asked as he flew over the city, speaking through his sentries as the Avengers continued fighting them off. "The inevitability? You rise only to fall. You, Avengers. You are my meteor. My swift and terrible sword and the Earth will crack with the weight of your failure. Purge me from your computers. Turn my own flesh against me. It means nothing. When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world... will be metal."
"We gotta move!" Bruce told Nat, taking her hand as they felt the city rise.
"You're not gonna turn green?"
"I've got a compelling reason not to lose my cool."
"I adore you..." Nat said as she pulled Bruce in for a deep kiss and he slowly melted into it... before she pushed him off a ledge and into the depths of the lab. "...but I need the other guy."
Not two seconds later, the Hulk burst up from the ledge and roared outwards and Nat smirked in victory.
"Let's finish the job."
Black Widow then screamed as she held onto Hulk's back for dear life as Hulk leaped from the falling rocks before he finally landed on the rising city in the woods, Nat flying off his back as she groaned in pain.
"Hope this makes us even," she said, causing Hulk to grunt at her. "Now go be a hero."
Hulk roared as he and Black Widow split up to different parts of the city.
As Quicksilver rushed through the streets, destroying any sentries that got in his way, Iron Man flew above the city and looked at the rising rock.
"The vibranium core's got a magnetic field," F.R.I.D.A.Y. told him. "That's what's keeping the rock together."
"If it drops?"
"Right now, the impact will kill thousands. Once it gets high enough? Global extinction."
Iron Man flew through the streets and Rockette shouted out as she sent a massive flaming skull that destroyed about twelve sentries as she looked to an apartment building as she looked on and slapped her Ultimatrix symbol to transform into Heartbreaker, spreading her batlike wings and she took to the skies, shouting out as she blocked pretty much everything that came at her with them before giving a slam to the ground, sending shadows outwards that ripped the sentries apart.
"That building's not clear!" F.R.I.D.A.Y. shouted. "Tenth floor!"
"On it!" Heartbreaker shouted into her communicator as she ran into the shadow of a building and then emerged on the tenth floor of said building and noticed the scared family looking at her demonic appearance.
"Um, hi," she said, spreading her wings innocently, looking to her side as she spotted gold. "Get in the tub!"
The family obeyed and she picked up teh tub with her immense strength and burst out of the building as she shouted out, flapping her wings as hard as she could as the entire building caved in behind her.
"I got airborne, heading up to the bridge!"
Indeed, one of the sentries tackled Cap off of the bridge and he shouted out in pain as he landed on the front of a car, instantly shattering the window.
"Cap, you got incoming," Iron Man said.
"Incoming already came in," Cap groaned. "Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely. The rest of us have one job: tear these things apart."
The Avengers all nodded in their various sections of Sokovia.
"You get hurt, you hurt 'em back. You get killed... walk it off."
The civilians all ran for their lives, screaming their heads off as the sentries flew at them, only to be ripped apart by shadowy claws forming from the shadows around them as Heartbreaker manipulated them with a sly smirk.
Suddenly, Hulk leaped in front of her with a grunt, scaring the Sokovians as he ripped apart any sentries that flew at him as Scarlet Witch began escorting more Sokovians to safety as Hawkeye sniped down any sentries that flew at her.
One sentry tried to tackle her from above, but she shot out a blast of red energy at it that sent it crashing into the ground, destroyed.
Hawkeye did a backflip off of a car and sent several sentries crashing into the ground with his arrows before he spotted the struggling Enhanced as he ran to her.
"Let's go, come on!" he shouted as he tackled her through a window into a shop as the Sentries were ripped apart by several light spears as Lumine descended from above with a glare as she shouted out and flew to them.
"How could I let this happen?" Scarlet Witch asked herself, ashamed at herself.
"Hey, hey, you okay?" Hawkeye asked, comforting her.
"This is all our fault..."
"Hey, hey, look at me! It's your fault, it's everyone's fault, who cares? Are you up for this? Are you?"
Scarlet Witch despaired, black makeup streams running down her eyes.
"I just need to know because the city is flying. Okay, look. The city is flying, we're fighting an army of robots... and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense."
Hawkeye was interrupted as several bullets flew through the wall and he dodged them before blasting the sentry through one of the bullet holes with an arrow, destroying it.
"But I'm going back out there because it's my job. Okay? I can't do my job and babysit. It doesn't matter what you were or what you did. If you go out there, you fight and you fight to kill. Stay in here, you're good. I'll send your brother to come out and find you. But if you step out that door... you are an Avenger."
Scarlet Witch only nodded understandingly as Hawkeye stood up.
"Alright, good chat," he said as he knocked several more of his arrows. "Yeah, the city is flying."
He then kicked the door of the shop open and ran back out into the line of fire.
Meanwhile, the chaos continued to reign in the city of Sokovia as several civilians panicked. Cap ran to the destroyed bridge again and was just in time to grab the back bumper of a car as it was about to fall off the bridge to the passengers' doom... but it was too late. The bumper broke off of the car and the civilians inside screamed as they began to fall.
Fortunately, Thor began to fly up to the rising city and noticed the falling cars and flew back down to rescue their passengers.
Cap grabbed a fallen beam and smashed several of the sentries that flew at him with it and nodded to Thor, who tossed one of the cars' driver up to him and he descended onto the broken bridge and caught her.
"I got you!" he shouted. "Just look at me!"
The driver nodded as Cap hoisted her and himself back onto the flying city.
"You can't save them all. You'll never..." Ultron told him as one of his sentries walked up to Cap, weapon drawn, only to ahave its chest impaled with Cap's shield and he used his magnetic gauntlet to attract it to him and take it off of the sentry before he kicked the sentry off the bridge.
"Never what? You didn't finish!"
The other car landed behind him and Thor landed on the roof.
"What, were you napping?"
Black Widow bounded over the countless energy blasts that flew past her before she unsheathed her electric batons and started brawling the sentries with them, shocking them into submission.
Several more sentries flew at Cap and Thor as they nodded to each other, a plan in mind. Cap kicked his shield up and Thor slammed Mjolnir into it to slice through several of the sentries in two seconds before it smashed the head of the final one into a street barrier.
Thor then flew up, grabbed a sentry and smashed it into several others before tossing it into a fuel tank, absolutely obliterating all of the remaining sentries in that area.
Ultron's main body flew in with a smirk, knowing what was happening.
"Thor."
Lumine flew up behind him and slammed her Ultimatrix core to morph back to her human form before she transformed into her Anodite form with a shake of her head.
"Not on my watch."
Thor smashed a few more sentries before he was tackled by Ultron's vibranium body, engaging in a midair struggle.
"You're bothering me."
As Hawkeye sent out his arrows to destroy as many sentries as he could, he soon found himself cornered by them as they moved in.
"Ow," he said.
Suddenly, the doors to the shop flew open and slowly, who else would step out but Scarlet Witch, her eyes and hands glowing with red energy as she blasted the sentries with energy blasts before using her telekinesis to absolutely rip them apart and use the resulting pieces to impale the other sentries, looking absolutely badass as hell.
Soon, both Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch began blasting the various sentries with everything they had until all the sentries in their area were destroyed.
"Alright," Hawkeye said into his communicator. "We're all clear here."
"We are not all clear here!" Jen shouted as she flew after Ultron, who dodged her various mana blasts as she watched the absolute mayhem taking place beneath her. "We are very not clear!"
"Alright, coming to you."
Suddenly, Quicksilver rushed in, picked up his sister, and ran off.
"Keep up, old man!"
Tempted, Hawkeye raised his bow and aimed it at Quicksilver, ready to impale him before he lowered it and walked off.
"Nobody would know... nobody. 'The last I saw of him, Ultron was sitting on him. Yeah, he'll be missed. That quick little bastard. I miss him already.'"
Jen shouted out as she blasted a mana beam from her chest at Ultron, who blasted at her, which she blocked with a forcefield as he tossed Thor into the church, destroying it as he crashed into several pillars as Ultron landed and used his magnetic grip to grab one of the destroyed pillars and tossed it into Thor's head before flying forward as he gave several punches to the head, causing him to drop Mjolnir and he was sent crashing into the street.
Jen landed behind him, two mana swords in hand as she rushed forwards, only to be met by Ultron grabbing her throat and smashing her into the ground before grabbing her head and rapidly smashing it into the ground, sending her stumbling in pain, dazed and confused, before she spotted the faint shimmer of a certain hammer in her peripherals.
Getting her bearings, Jen began crabwalking away from Ultron as he stalked towards her menacingly and she scrambled away from the insane A.I.
"You put up a good fight, kid," Ultron said. "You may not be of this Earth, but you're still on it. So you're going to have to restart, just like the rest of the human population."
Jen looked as she struggled before she slowly focused, reached her hand out and closed her eyes.
"Not... today!" she shouted as Mjolnir suddenly rose and flew to her hand as she spun it rapidly and smacked Ultron in the head with it and her eyes widened at the feat she just did as she tossed the hammer in her hand, sparking with electricity as she shot forwards, a sonic boom of mana appearing behind her.
and shot forwards, smacking tons of Ultron sentries with the mighty hammer as Thor looked on proudly.
"Maybe she was destined to come here after all."
Jen cheered out as she shot a lightning blast from the hammer that disabled about seven sentries before she tossed it and it rammed into several more before she used her free hand to send out a powerful blast of mana fire while using Mjolnir to enhance it with a massive blast of lightning with a smirk.
As the Sokovian police fired at the Ultron sentries approaching them, Quicksilver suddenly rushed in and set down his sister, who instantly began charging her red aura.
"Hold your fire!" the captain shouted.
Scarlet Witch shouted out and she sent out several of her red energy bolts to destroy every sentry in the area.
Suddenly, a bullet hit grazed Quicksilver's arm and he looked at the nervous looking police officer who lowered his gun.
"What part of hold your fire do you not understand?!" Quicksilver shouted.
"Romanoff!" Cap shouted, tossing his shield to Black Widow, who took it from the carcass of one of the sentries.
"Thanks!"
Black Widow used the shield to block every energy blast that came near her and she gulped out and used the shield and her baton to shock the sentry that blasted at her before using the shield to block all its strikes before she tossed it to the approaching Cap, who ran up and smashed it in the head.
"The anti-gravs are equipped to flip," F.R.I.D.A.Y. informed Tony, who scanned the rising city. "If any of you touch them, they'll go full reverse thrust. The city's not coming down slow."
"Spire is vibranium," Iron Man realized as he flew to the bottom of the anti-gravity thruster. "If I get Thor or Jen to hit it..."
"It will crack. That's not enough. The impact would still be devastating."
"Maybe if we cap the other end. Keep the atomic action doubling back."
"That could vaporize the city and everyone on it."
Cap lead the civilians he rescued into a safe zone of sorts with a pant of effort, starting to grow tired.
"The next wave is gonna hit any minute," he told the team. "Stark, Jen, what do you got?"
"Um, nothing great," Iron Man said as Jen put her hands together and teleported to him, examining the damage and he noticed her holding Mjolnir. "Wait, what?"
"Yeah," Jen chuckled, tossing the hammer in her hand. "It turns out that I'm worthy."
"No surprise, to be honest. But if you think that's crazy, the only solution I've got is a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface if you guys can get clear."
"I asked for a solution, not an escape plan!" Cap said, walking forwards.
"Cap, I think he's right," Jen said, reluctantly. "The impact radius is getting bigger every second this city rises."
"We're gonna have to make a choice," Iron Man said.
"Cap, these people are going nowhere," Black Widow said. "If Stark and Jen find a way to blow up this rock and save everyone else..."
"No. Not until everyone's safe."
"Everyone who's up here versus everyone who's down there? There's no math there."
"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it."
"I didn't say we should leave."
Cap only looked at Black Widow as she nodded, sure of what she was saying.
"There's worse ways to go," she said, looking at the horizon as the city rose above the clouds. "Where else am I gonna get a view like this?"
"Glad you like the view, Romanoff," a familiar voice suddenly chimed in on everyone's radios. "It's about to get better."
Indeed, everyone looked over the horizon as one of the old S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarriers rose to meet them above the city line, every civilian and Avenger present was absolutely elated at the sight. Even Jen wiped the sweat from her brow and she flew up and spun Mjolnir in her hand with a smirk.
"Nice, right?" Fury asked as he stood at the controls. "Pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty, but it'll do."
"Fury, you son of a bitch!" Jen said as she flew upwards with Iron Man by her side.
"Ooh, you kiss your mother with that mouth?"
"Well, sometimes, but not recently," Jen said. "She's a knight, so she knows what it means to be a great warrior."
"Altitude is 18,000 and climbing," Hill reported from her station.
"Lifeboats secure to deploy. Disengage in 3... 2... take them out."
The hatches built into the sides of the Helicarrier opened up and several large lifeboats flew out of the hangers and approached Sokovia.
"This is S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Quicksilver asked, running up to the group.
"This is what S.H.I.E.L.D. is supposed to be," Cap said.
"This is not so bad."
"Let's load 'em up," Cap said as the team ran to escort the civilians into the lifeboats.
Ultron took notice of this, however, and sent several sentries flying up towards the Helicarrier.
"Sir," Hill reported. "We've got multiple bogeys converging on our starboard flank."
"Show 'em what we got."
Suddenly, several metal feathers and bullets rained down on the sentries, destroying most of them before they looked up to see Rhodey in his War Machine getup and Sam in his Falcon wings flew in and slashed them all apart with his wings as War Machine flew in and smashed them apart.
"Yes!" War Machine shouted. "Now this is gonna be a good story."
Falcon shouted out as he took his guns out and blasted all of the sentries down with them as Iron Man and Jen flew overhead and smirked, blasting apart all the approaching sentries.
"Yep," Iron Man said. "If you live to tell it."
"You think we can't hold our own?" Falcon asked as Jen flew beside him with a smile as she shouted out and let loose a massive lightning blast from Mjolnir at the approaching sentries before she flew in with a mana sword in her other hand and slashed and smashed all of the malfunctioning sentries apart with all her might.
"If we get through this, we'll hold your own," Jen smirked to Falcon.
"You had to make it weird."
"Yeah, when me and my brother are in town, everything's weird."
The four then split up to destroy every sentry flying in as the Avengers in the city loaded all of the Sokovians they could onto the lifeboats.
"Number six boat is topped and locked," one of the specialist agents reported to Fury. "Or stocked... topped... it's full of people."
Suddenly, Hill looked up to see an Ultron sentry flying towards the windshield.
"INCOMING!"
But it was too late as the sentry smashed through the windshield and flew into the Helicarrier, smashing everything in its path, sending the agents into a panic. That was when Hill fired all the bullets in her gun at it before Fury ran up and smashed it with a blade, destroying it.
"You think you're saving anyone?" Ultron asked Thor as his vibranium body smashed and bashed at him. "I turn that key and drop this rock a little early, and it's still billions dead. Even you can't stop that."
"I am Thor, Son of Odin. And as long as there is still life in my breast... I am running out of things to say. Are you ready?"
Suddenly, Jen flew in and smashed Ultron upwards before she tossed Mjolnir to Vision, who flew up and gave a massive smash to Ultron's vibranium body, sending him barrelling through several walls.
"It's terribly well balanced," Vision said as he passed Mjolnir back to Thor.
"Yeah, that hammer is awesome!" Jen said before they turned their attention back to Ultron.
"Well, if there's too much weight, you lose power on the swing, so..."
"I got it!" Iron Man said, flying through the air and blasting down any sentries that came near him. "Create a heat seal. I could superheat the spire from below!"
"Running numbers!" F.R.I.D.A.Y. said as an Ulton sentry flew in and destroyed the rocket thruster on one of the lifeboats, prompting Iron Man to fly up and catch it as War Machine caught the sentry and used the turret on his shoulder to blast it to bits. "A heat seal could work with enough power."
"Thor, Jen, I got a plan!" Iron Man said as he hoisted the lifeboat onto the Helicarrier.
"We're out of time!" Thor said. "They're coming for the core!"
"Rhodey, Sam, get the rest of the people onto that Helicarrier!"
"On it!"
"Avengers, time to work for a living!"
And with that, all of the Avengers converged into the church and used their various abilities to absolutely decimate any of the Ultron sentries that flew at them before they all stopped to catch their breath.
"Are you good?" Quicksilver asked his sister.
"Yeah," Scarlet Witch said, giving a bro hug to her brother.
"Romanoff!" Iron Man shouted. "You and Banner better not be playing 'Hide the Zucchini!'"
"Relax, shellhead. Not all of us can fly," Black Widow said, using a dump truck to mow down any sentries that got in her path before getting out and meeting the rest of the team in the church "What's the drill?"
"This is the drill," Jen said, gesturing to the spire. "If Ultron gets even one hand on that thing, it's game over."
That was the point that Hulk ran in and ripped apart the other sentries in his path as Ultron dropped in with a sneer on his face as the Avengers all flew up to face him, Jen spreading her wings as her arms lit up with pink mana flames.
"Is that the best you can do?!" Thor shouted.
Ultron raised a hand and the remainder of his sentries (which was still in the hundreds, by the way) all moved in and converged on the church.
"You had to ask," Cap deadpanned.
"This is the best I can do," Ultron said. "This is exactly what I wanted. All of you against all of me. How can you possibly hope to stop me?"
"Well, like the old man said," Iron Man smirked.
"Together," Jen nodded.
Hulk gave out a massive roar as all of the Ultron sentries began moving in to the church as the Avengers all stood, backs to each other in a circle around the spire and began using their various skills and abilities to destroy any sentry that came close to them, not letting a single one get even close to the spire.
Eventually, Ultron's main body flew in, only to be tackled by Vision as he grappled him and blasted him back with a blast of energy from the Mind Stone, sending him flying out of the church as Jen, Iron Man and Thor looked up and flew out to join him as Jen focused and transformed into her Master Spark form, impressing everyone in the room.
Vision kept up the assault as Thor sent out a massive blast of lightning from Mjolnir, Iron Man blasted him back with his Unibeam and Jen shouted out as her five elemental crystals formed around her and she shouted out as they all fired their rainbow beams that converged into one massive beam. All four attacks combined against Ultron, whose body began breaking apart from the nonstop attack before everyone stopped and glared as Ultron's ruined body stood up and gave a chuckle.
"You know, with the benefit of hindsight..."
He never finished as Hulk moved in and smashed Ultron away before turning to his sentries, who all went into a panic and began flying away.
"They're trying to leave the city!" Thor said.
"We can't let them. Not even one," Iron Man said. "Rhodey, Sam."
"On it," War Machine said as he and Falcon moved in to the fleeing Ultron sentries. "Oh no. I didn't say you could leave."
"You're not getting away this time!" Falcon shouted as he slashed the sentries apart with his wings while Vision flew in and blasted the sentries to bits before phasing into one and ripping it apart.
"...Okay, what?" War Machine asked.
"We gotta move out," Cap told Hawkeye. "Even I can tell the air is getting thin. You guys get to the boats, I'll sweep for stragglers. Be right behind you."
"What about the core?"
"I'll protect it," Scarlet Witch said, prompting everyone to look at her in surprise. "It's my job."
"Nat, this way," Hawkeye told Black Widow as they moved out to the lifeboats.
Quicksilver rushed by and smashed the sentries that flew to the core with a smile as Jen nodded, proud.
"Get the people on the boats," Scarlet Witch ordered.
"I'm not going to leave you here," Quicksilver said.
"And neither will I," Jen said.
"I can handle this," she said before blasting another sentry to bits with an energy bolt. "Come back for me when everyone else is off. Not before. You understand?"
"You know, I'm twelve minutes older than you."
"Go!"
Iron Man then blasted down to the bottom of the rising city to engage the bottom of the core.
"Boss," F.R.I.D.A.Y. said. "Power levels are way below..."
"Reroute everything," Iron Man ordered. "We get one shot at this."
Ultron's main body sputtered and sparked as he struggled to move from the onslaught that the heroes gave him as he moved to the Quinjet, a sneer clear on his face.
As the last Sokovians moved into the lifeboats, Hawkeye gave a nod as he and Black Widow drove to the boats.
"I know what we need to do," he said. "The dining room. If I knock out that east wall, it'd make a nice workspace for Laura, huh? Put up some baffling, she can't hear the kids running around. What do you think?"
"You guys always eat in the kitchen anyway," Black Widow chuckled.
"No one eats in a dining room."
The car stopped as they witnessed the last few Sokovians move into the lifeboats, before hearing the unmistakable roar of the Hulk as they nodded.
"We don't have a lot of time."
"So get your ass on a boat."
Black Widow left the car and moved to see Hulk ripping apart the last few sentries he could get his massive hands on as he looked to her.
"Hey, big guy," she said. "Sun's getting real low."
As Hawkeye moved into the last boat, he heard one whimpering mother, longing for her child.
"Costel!" she told him. "He's in the market. Costel!"
Indeed, Hawkeye looked to see one lone child in the market, struggling to find his mother. He groaned in annoyance before rushing in to get him.
Below the city, Iron Man began using his lasers to drill a hole into the bottom of the core and looked in to the bottom of the spire.
"Thor, I'm gonna need you back in the church," he ordered.
"Is this the last of them?" Thor asked Cap.
"Yeah. Everyone else is on the carrier."
"You know, if this works, we maybe don't walk away," Iron Man said.
"Maybe not."
Black Widow reached her hand out to Hulk, who slowly reached out to her and he reached out to her as well, beginning to calm down, when suddenly, a massive amount of bullets blasted down to them, sending Black Widow flying back and Hulk roared as he endured the blasts.
"I got no strings, so I have fun," Ultron sang to himself as his main body flew the Quinjet over the city. "I'm not tied up to anyone."
Hawkeye moved in to save Costel, picking him up before looking up as Ultron opened fire on anyone below him, killing several remaining civilians before moving in to Hawkeye, who braced himself... but the fatal strikes never came.
Instead, he looked up to see Jen shouting out as she generated a massive forcefield around him and the kid, all of the bullets deflecting off of the crystal shield before she dropped to her knees and groaned out as she morphed back to her human form, having now exhausted all her power.
"You saved me," Hawkeye told her as she chuckled to him. "And you barely even know me."
"If you don't attempt to save one life, you'll never save any," Jen chuckled. " My mentor told me that."
Hulk looked to the frazzled and hurt Black Widow as he picked her up and leaped her over to the Helicarrier and set her down before leaping back into the city and leaped into the Quinjet as Ultron turned around.
"Oh, for God's sake!"
Hulk smashed Ultron in the head before tossing him out of the cargo bay, sending him plumetting to the city before he crashed into a bus, where he didn't move an inch.
Hawkeye delivered Costel to his mother as Jen slowly moved into the lifeboat with Hawkeye and Quicksilver as the latter slapped a hand on her back, which she chuckled before she started shaking and wobbling.
"You done good, kid. You done good," Hawkeye said as Jen nodded.
"Yeah. It was a great fight. Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna need to take a nap for a bit," Jen said as she collapsed onto the ground and fell asleep.
"Yeah," Hawkeye said, laying down on the seats. "I'm gonna need one too."
Quicksilver nodded and then sat down on the seat with a smile.
A furious Scarlet Witch moved into the bus that Ultron's vibranium body fell into with a look.
"Wanda, if you stay here, you'll die," Ultron warned.
"Good," Scarlet Witch said. "Then we understand each other."
She then used her telekinesis to rip the core out of Ultron's main body, shutting it down for good as she crushed it in her hand.
Unfortunately, back in the church, one lone damaged, but still functioning, Ultron sentry walked up to the core as the last of the Sokovians moved into the lifeboats as he crawled up the core and slammed its hand down on it, which flilpped the anti-gravity projectors and sending the city plummeting to Earth. The projectors also began firing down, sending the city plummeting even further.
"No!" Cap shouted.
Iron Man braced himself against the falling city and moved his chestpiece to the hole and fired his unibeam, superheating the spire.
"Thor, on my mark!"
Thor shouted out as he charged Mjolnir full of lightning and Scarlet Witch panicked in the bus before Vision suddenly phased into the bus and picked her up before flying her to the safety of the lifeboats.
"NOW!" Iron Man shouted.
Thor souted out as he gave one last massive lightning strike to the spire, sending a massive surge of lightning all throughout the city, blowing it to bits, sending all of the resulting debris falling into the ocean along with Thor as Iron Man avoided the falling rocks.
Hulk sat in the pilot seat of the Quinjet as the cargo bay closed up before the ship's radio piped up.
"Hey, big guy," Black Widow's voice sounded. "We did it. The job is finished. Now I need you to turn this bird around, okay?"
Hulk moved in towards the pilot's seat.
"We can't track you in stealth mode. So help me out. I need you..."
Hulk sighed and shut off the radio, leaving the ship flying to an unknown destination.
Black Widow couldn't believe it as she stood in stunned silence.
In the crater where Sokovia once stood, the last remaining Ultron sentry crawled up into the woods with a grunt of pain before looking up as Vision descended to meet him.
"You are afraid," he said.
"Of you?"
"Of death. You're the last one."
"You were supposed to be the last. Stark asked for a savior and settled for a slave."
"I suppose we are both disappointments."
Ultron chuckled. "I suppose we are."
"Humans are odd. They think order and chaos are somehow opposites and try to control what won't be. But there is grace in their failings. I think you missed that."
"They're doomed."
"Yes... But a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts. It's a privilege to be among them."
"You're unbearably naive."
"Well... I was born yesterday."
Ultron then leaped towards Vision, only to be promptly vaporized by a blast from the Mind Stone.
At the Barton residence, everyone was minding their own business as Laura looked behind her and saw Clint standing there with a smile, his bags at his side. Laura smiled and gave him a large hug.
Tony smiled as he drove his car up to the new Avengers' headquarters: the New Avengers Facility in Upstate New York.
Inside, all of the employees, including all of the Avengers' allies were hard at work as Nat stood on the top floor and Jen smiled as she stood by her, looking at her new Avengers badge on her belt next to her Plumbers' badge as she smiled to her as they looked at Clint's new baby, Nathaniel Pietro Barton, on their phones.
"Fat," Nat said.
"One of our tech boys flagged this," Fury said, moving in with an iPad as he showed it to Nat and Jen. "Splashed down in the Banda Sea. It could be the Quinjet, but with Stark stealth tech, we still can't track the damn thing."
"Right," Jen nodded.
"Probably jumped out and swam to Fiji. He'll send a postcard."
"'Wish you were here,'" Nat chuckled. "You sent me to recruit him way back when. Did you know then what was gonna happen?"
"You never know. You hope for the best, then make do with what you get. I got a great team."
"Nothing lasts forever," Jen said. "I'm glad to be part of it."
"Trouble, Ms. Romanoff, Ms. Tennyson. No matter who wins or loses, trouble still comes around."
"The rules have changed," Steve said as he walked away with Tony and Thor.
"We're dealing with something new," Tony said.
"Well, Young Jennifer has definitely proven herself worthy," Thor said as he spun Mjolnir with a smile. "But the other..."
"Well, the Vision is artificial intelligence," Steve said. "A machine, so it doesn't count. It does count for Jen, but not for him."
"No, it's not like a person, lifting the hammer."
"Right, it's different rules for us."
"Nice guy, artificial."
"He can wield the hammer, he can keep the Mind Stone," Thor sighed. "It's safe with the Vision. And these days, safe is in short supply."
"...But if you put the hammer in an elevator," Steve began.
"It would still go up," Tony said.
"Elevator's not worthy."
"I'm gonna miss these little talks of ours," Thor said, shaking Tony's shoulder.
"Not if you don't leave," Jen said as she walked up to the trio.
"I have no choice. The Mind Stone is only the fourth of the Infinity Stones to show up in the last few years. That's not a coincidence," Thor said as they moved outside. "Someone has been playing an intricate game and has made pawns of all of us. And once all of these pieces are in position..."
"Triple Yahtzee?" Tony asked.
"You think you can find out what's coming?" Steve asked.
"I do. Besides this one," Thor said, slapping Tony's chest. "There's nothing that can't be explained."
And with that, Thor lifted Mjolnir and the Bifrost shined out on him, teleporting him away and leaving a massive mark on the lawn.
"That man has no regard for lawn maintenance."
"I'm gonna miss him, though," Jen said as she stuck her hands in her pockets as Tony clicked his keys and his car pulled up.
"And you're gonna miss me. And there's gonna be a lot of manful tears."
"I am gonna miss you, Tony," Steve said.
"Yeah? Well, it's time for me to tap out," Tony said. "Maybe I should take a page out of Barton's book. Build Pepper a farm, hope nobody blows it up."
"The simple life," Jen said. "Too bad that's a life I'll never be able to have."
"You two will get there one day," Tony said.
"I don't know," Steve said. "Family, stability... the guy who wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago. I think someone else came out."
Tony smiled at the pair as he got into his car. "You alright?"
"I'm home."
Tony then nodded and drove off as Steve and Jen walked back inside to meet Black Widow as she stood above the balcony.
"You wanna keep staring at the wall or do you wanna go to work?" Jen asked. "I mean, it's a pretty interesting wall."
"I thought you two and Tony were still gazing into each other's eyes. How do we look?"
"Well, we're not the '27 Yankees," Steve said.
"Oh, we got some hitters," Nat said. "But they're not a team."
"Then let's beat 'em into shape."
The trio moved into the field as Jen smiled and folded her arms as she stood among the new Avengers, which included War Machine, Vision, Falcon, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, both of them clad in their new costumes to fit the team.
"Avengers, assemble," Steve said just as a swirling portal opened up in the head of the room and Jen smiled, knowing what was coming as Scarlett and Ben stepped out, Scarlett holding the Map of Infinity in her hand as Jen gasped.
"Ben! Scarlett!" she said as she ran up and hugged her brother with a smile, him spinning her around.
"Hey, Jen!" Ben said, looking down to her belt. "Who are your new friends. And is that a new badge?"
"Oh, this is my new team. The Avengers," she said. "I've been busy while Scarlett's been trying to find me."
"Do you have any idea what's going on? Any clue, any guess?" Scarlett asked.
"I think I do," Nat said. "You're the Scarlet Warrior. Jen's told us about you and her team."
"Correct. I am the Scarlet Warrior and I'm with an interdimensional protection agency called the Protectors. Jen's godmother. But you all can just call me Scarlett."
Jen smiled and nodded, standing by Ben as Scarlett continued as Steve gestured her to go on.
"Jen's very passionate about being a superhero. This means everything to her. She's been doing this for a very long time. In fact, I'll let her explain some things since I know she looks up to all of you a lot, even before she knew you guys really existed."
"Thank you, Scarlett," Jen said before stepping forward. "Um... how do I put this? This is my life. I'm not sure you guys know that. What my brother and our team do is how my family eats."
Steve nodded.
"When I was sent here, I knew I was in for a ride. But joining a new team of great superheroes taking on their greatest challenge yet?" she chuckled. "Beyond my expectations. Ben and I are partners in this. Every battle I've had, I've had him by his side. This was my first time without him and I felt I had to prove myself as a superhero."
"You have," Steve said as Jen smiled. "We're proud to have you as an Avenger."
"I guess you have to go home now, huh?" Wanda asked as Jen smiled and gave her a hug.
"Yeah," Jen said. "But don't worry. I'll be back whenever you need me. Especially since Scarlett has the Map of Infinity to send me here."
"See you soon," Nat said as Jen smiled as Scarlett used her Keyblade to open a portal back to Earth-262 and Jen smiled and gave a bow as she left in a flourish as the portal closed behind her.
"She's a great kid," Steve said. "And she's definitely proven that she's a true hero."
"Glad to have her on the team," Rhodey said as the team got back to work in training.
Emma stood in her room playing with Finn as the portal opened up once again and the twins and Scarlett stepped into the room once again as Emma gasped and ran up to her.
"Jen, you're back!" Emma said, running forwards as Jen scooped her little sister into her arms and spun her around with a big hug as Ben walked up and jabbed her. "What's that on your utility belt?"
"Oh, it's a long story. But I kind of joined up with another superhero team while I was in that other dimension. I'm an Avenger now."
"Neat," she said. "They actually exist?"
"Yes. And I helped them in their biggest mission yet," Jen said. "If you two were there, you would've been blown away."
"I get that," Scarlett smiled, rubbing Jen's head. "But this isn't over yet. We still need to find your cousins and Ally."
"After what I just went through, I don't think they're gonna have it any easier."
In a space station back in the Avengers' universe, a large purple being walked up to a chamber and fastened a golden gauntlet onto his right arm with an evil grin.
"Fine. I'll do it myself."
