(Chapter 08: The Power of Water)

[Johto 1999 - Route 30/Morning - Cloudy: Crystal and Lincoln]
After watching the land and battling another trainer in the distance, Lincoln and Crystal trekked through Route 30, but not before seeing somebody with a rare Pokémon.
"Is that an Umbreon?" Asked Crystal.
"What's an Umbreon?* Lincoln asked Crystal.
"A Rare Eeveelution we have here in Johto?" Crystal smiled as Lincoln observed the Pokémon.
Umbreon was a quadrupedal, mammalian feliform Pokémon that resembled a black cat with some lagomorph traits. Umbreon had mainly sleek black fur with luminescent yellow rings encircling his ears and tail and round yellow circular patterns on his forehead and on each of his legs. His physical characteristics resembled a feline, with a short muzzle and a small triangular nose, but his large ears are reminiscent of a hare or a rabbit. He had red eyes, and unlike the rest of the Eeveelutions, he also had visible black-colored oval-shaped pupils that often appear slit, as well as patches of black fur of a darker shade around his eyes. Umbreon had a slightly bushy black tail with a single yellow ring encircling its thickest part; the tail thinned out at the tip. Umbreon had small sharp fangs, and can be seen when it opens its mouth, similar to Sylveon. (And yes, they exist in this Game. Not in HGSS, but rather in this story with a Gen 9 Pokédex.)
Lincoln looked at the Pokémon playing fetch with his owner who simply petted his Pokémon and gave him a gummy candy from his pouch. And meanwhile, Crystal took out her Pokédex to scan the Pokémon.
"Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokémon. A Dark Type and the Evolution of Eevee when evolved with High Friendship, leveling up at Night without a Fairy Type Move. When darkness falls, the rings on the body begin to glow, striking fear in the hearts of anyone nearby. When agitated, this Pokémon protects itself by spraying poisonous sweat from its pores."
"Gee! Wouldn't want to get near that Pokémon at night…" Lincoln looked creeped out.
Suddenly, the Trainer looked up at the sky and found there were rain clouds. The trainer was wearing a black hoodie with some black jeans, gray sneakers and he had red headphones as well as a spiky red haircut.
Along came another trainer walking by, but he had a spiky red afro, wearing a Blue and Red Vest with a black shirt, blue torn jeans and red dashing sneakers and a red backpack.
Walking along him was a Pokémon who looked like a small, light-blue Pokémon with an appearance similar to a turtle, only ordinarily bipedal.
"There we go, Hope!" The Red Haired Trainer smiled at his Turtle Pokémon. "Just a couple more minutes and we're clear as water!"
Crystal used her Pokédex App on the Turtle Pokémon.
"Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokémon. A Water Type. After birth, its back swells and hardens into a shell. Powerfully sprays foam from its mouth. When it retracts its long neck into its shell, it squirts out water with vigorous force."
The other trainer with the Umbreon looked down at the Trainer with a Squirtle. "HALT! YOU THERE! You look familiar!"
"Huh?" Asked the Trainer with a Squirtle. "How so?"
"You have Red Hair compared to the Thief of New Bark Town!" The Black Haired Trainer held out his Pokéball, ready for battle.
"You DARE compare me to some street rodent?! I don't even look like him!" The Trainer with Squirtle defended himself.
"You there!" The Trainer with Black Hair called out to Lincoln and Crystal. "Battle with me and we shall seize the thief!"
"I'm sorry if you're mistaken, but this is not the thief." Lincoln clarified.
"Huh?" Asked the Umbreon Trainer. "Is it not the thief from New Bark Town?!"
"I've heard of the Thief as well, and I know who Pokémon he stole. Clearly, he stole a Totodile. I don't have such a thing in my Pokémon Party. And why would I bother with a Totodile? Clearly, Squirtle are a way to go!" The Squirtle Trainer made himself clear.
"Yeah, Silver had slick down hair, almost as long as yours but more combed." Lincoln described as best as he could.
"Silver, hug? My name is Axel. Axel Pool. I'm no Silver." The Squirtle Trainer clarified, now identified as Axel Pool. "Who are YOU to mistake me for a Thief?! What's your name?!"
"I'm Zane Mud, my Dad works for the Local Police. And I'm here to seize the Thief as he came up here!" Zane replied.
"Clearly, he would've made it to Violet City by himself." Crystal sighed. "Even then, we can still catch up to him, right now!"
"Alright! We'll need to get to Violet City as fast as we can!" Zane ordered. "Let's go!"
Suddenly, thunder sounded off in the sky as suddenly, small drops of rain fell onto the grassy land.
"And quickly!" Lincoln screamed as he dashed towards the end of Route 30 and entered Route 31. Crystal and Zane followed him, with Axel taking his sweet time.

[Modern Day Royal Woods, Michigan, USA - The Loud Residence]
"There's TWO MORE RIVALS and one of them has a Turtle?!" Lana asked, surprised.
"Yeah. The first Generation was based on exotic house pets like a Lizard, a Turtle and a Frog, even though I still believe Bulbasaur to be more like a Dinosaur if anything." Lincoln replied to Lana and Lola.
"According to my research, people based Cyndaquil, Totodile and Chikorita on the Era of Dinosaurs, with Totodile being the Sea Creatures like a Crocodile, Chikorita being the Sauropoda, and Cyndaquil being the Volcano that destroyed the Dinosaur Era." Crystal clarified to her In-laws.
"So poor Totodile and Chikorita were both poor dinosaurs who wanted to live until the evil Cyndaquil blasted the dinosaurs to extinction…!" Lana replied.
"I wouldn't necessarily call Cyndaquil evil. Poor dude was built to destroy…" Luna felt sorry for Cyndaquil.
It took over a month to explain to the Louds about Pokémon without spoiling too much, considering they were catching up to where Lincoln was during his life at his disappearance. Turns out that they knew that Lincoln saved a Nation from evil groups and there was no hope of returning him home without consequences. But in the End, he's home and providing some extra money his parents needed. And even though it felt crowded in his room, now with Crystal by his side, Lincoln and Crystal managed to live with it.
"So what happened during the rain?" Asked Rita, their Mother (And Crystal's Mother-in-Law). "Didn't you get sick?"
"Apparently, it's what people with Water Pokémon would want to take control of battles." Lincoln clarified.
"Why's that? I wouldn't want to get caught in the rain…" Rita shivered just as Lynn Sr walked out of the kitchen to see them.
"I'll show you why…" Lincoln sighed as he revealed more of the story.

[Johto 1999 - Route 31/Morning - Rain : Crystal and Lincoln]
Just as the group ran through Route 31, with Axel's Squirtle loving the water, spinning through the Wet Grass in her shell. When suddenly, a Pokémon Trainer walked up to them.
"READY?! ONE, TWO, THREE! LET'S BATTLE!!" The Trainer, revealed to be a Bug Catcher, walked up to them, holding a Pokéball.
"Really, kid? I hope you know what you're getting yourself into, especially in this weather!" Axel smiled with his sharp teeth, ready for battle.
"Really..? I don't know what you have, but I have a lot of Pokémon to make up for it! So prepare to lose!" The Bug Catcher readied a Pokéball.
"Now, hold your excitement for battle right here! I'll take you to a spot where my allies will love to be schooled about Water!" Axel licked his teeth, smirking.
"W-what about Water?" Asked the Bug Catcher.
"You'll see…" Axel took the Bug Catcher to a Spot underneath the Gate Building where Lincoln, Crystal and Zane took shelter, but not before Lincoln plucked the Fruit from the trees.
"Hey! What took you so long?!" Zane scolded Axel.
"I'll show you why I take my time in the rain!" Axel pointed out forward, "Surf's Up, Hope!"
"(Yay! I'm in battle form! In the Rain!)" Hope walked in front of Axel.
"Oh yeah?! Let's show him, Caterpie!" The trainer summoned his Bug Pokémon.
Caterpie was a worm-like Pokémon. It was mainly green in color with ring-shaped markings, a yellow underside, and a yellow teardrop-shaped tail protruding from its rear. Just below its head were four, tiny legs that are used only for movement. On top of its head was a red, "y-shaped" antenna, which can be used to produce an odor used in self-defense, in case something tries to hurt it.
"Oh yeah! Feel the water trickling all around you, Hope! Use it to your advantage!" Axel replied.
"Huh?" The Bug Catcher was surprised until he took the battle seriously. "Alright then! Tackle!"
"Water Gun!" Axel countered.
"(Use the water…!)' Hope took a deep breath as she spat a dart of water onto Caterpie which suddenly grew bigger and blasted the Caterpie back!
"What the?!" The Bug Catcher was stunned. "How did you oneshot my Caterpie?!"
"Take a look around you! Can't you see the very thing our bodies are made of?!" Axel smiled with joy.
"You mean the water in the… sky…?" The Bug Catcher gulped.
"Bingo! Not only does rain feel refreshing in the hot summer, but it also provides Water Pokémon enough power and control! Every blast of water suddenly gets bigger, and bulky Water Pokémon become powerful tanks, and it also gives Electric Pokémon an edge, too, but we don't care about that!" Axel smirked. "Let's keep flowing, Hope!"
"(You bet!)" Hope cheered.
One by one, the Bug Catcher's Pokémon were like mere EXP Snacks to Hope the Squirtle. One Water Gun attack and the Bug Pokémon was gone in an instant. 1! 2! 3! 4! And it's a Team Sweep!
The Bug Catcher sighed as he took shelter from the rain in embarrassment, but not before recalling all of his bugs
"Is he legally allowed to do that?" Lincoln asked Crystal.
"Apparently, no. It's a good idea to pack a Water Pokémon, especially when it rains constantly here in Johto…" Zane sighed. "Note to self; Get to Route 32 and pick up one Water Pokémon…"
"Seems like a nice way to cheat in a Battle." Lincoln sighed. "And I don't have a Water Pokémon, yet…"
"Don't give up, Lincoln!" Crystal smiled. "I'm sure we can get one sooner or later!"
"Of course!" Lincoln smiled back. "I mean if Route 32 is after Route 31, then how can I miss it?"
"You may also fish for one." Axel counted his money after regrouping with Lincoln and his team. "Water Pokémon are MOST ABUNDANT in the world! You'll have plenty to choose from when you see them!"
"Well, we're here in Violet City! Let's go find that thief!" Zane marched out to the back of the gate as Axel followed along to search for Silver.
"Hey, Lincoln! Kris!" Klaus appeared from behind the gate. "I see you two are expanding your party! Have you seen anything like these two?!"
"No, we have not, Klaus." Lincoln replied. "We've barely met them, especially the guy with a Squirtle."
"I mean that guy looks like he belongs in the Ocean." Klaus loomed at Axel. "Meanwhile the other guy just looks technological. Funny place to be when all around you are traditional things. I wonder where he's from…"
"Either way, we need to look for Silver!" Lincoln looked at Klaus.
Klaus sighed. "Look, I know it's not our responsibility to be fetching back that Totodile, but he's headed over there at Sprout Tower. And-"
"AND YOU DIDN'T STOP HIM?!" Crystal scolded Klaus.
"I tried but learning from the Battle with Lincoln only made him stronger. So much that we fell in a draw." Klaus replied. "Maybe you or Lincoln may have some luck beating him."
Lincoln shivered at the word Luck.
"Maybe best not say that when you're near him…" Crystal elaborated for Lincoln.
"It's okay, Chrissy, I think I'll manage…" Lincoln swallowed his rage.
"What did you call me…?" Crystal blushed.

"You called Mrs Elmore 'Chrissy'…?!" Lana, Lola and Luna were stunned.
"Yes…" Lincoln sighed, blushing as his sisters squealed.
"I don't get it." Crystal replied.
"I think it's because Lincoln had a crush on a girl named Cristina… Luckily, he found someone better…" Lucy sighed in monotone as she scared Crystal and Lincoln by a bit.
"So, you had a crush on someone before me?" Crystal asked Lincoln, catching her breath.
"Yeah… But good riddance anyway… Wouldn't have found a better wife with her, anyway…" Lincoln caught his breath. "And besides, I like you! A lot!"
"LINCOLN!!!" The family looked at Lincoln in shock.
Lincoln sighed. "I love you, my sweet Crystal."
The sisters cheered, making Crystal and Lincoln blush.
"Hey! At least it isn't a teasing, we all are happy you found love in the past!" Rita smiled at Lincoln. "My boy is becoming a Ladies' Man at any age!"
"And at any era!" Lynn Sr smiled. "You are now my eldest son and child, married to a beautiful woman, and you're a nation's savior and a super soldier!"
"Yeah, I only wished to get some help in the past…" Lincoln sighed.
"Didn't we get to the part where we intervened?" Asked Lisa.
Lincoln was puzzled. "What did you do…?"
