Author's Note:

This story was greatly inspired by Final Fantasy XVI. It takes place in the PJO Universe and I wanted to write an original story that references the original tale. Bear in mind that this is purely fictional and none of it is real. I do hope you enjoy the story though.

Chapter 2

As Kaguya finishes the final touches for the elixir, she feels a presence she has not felt for a long time.

"It can't be…" She said, "Sister… Is that you?"

Meanwhile, Akihito was facing Jishaku as she and several yokai marched towards the entrance of the mansion.

"Jishaku?" Akihito said.

Jishaku did not reply, as she unsheathed her blade and aimed towards him.

"Emperor Takahashi Akihito! We demand that you hand over the elixir to me!"

Akihito flinched. No one should have any knowledge of the Elixir but him and his family. Jishaku left before she could have knowledge of it. So how did she know of it?

"Jishaku… what is the meaning of this?" Akihito asked.

"...That dream that you once spoke of shall never come true. So long as mankind exists, peace will never come."

The men grew weary and were about to draw their blades, but Akihito gestured to them to stand down. He's well aware of the hostile nature Jishaku and her men are showing, but he must have faith that this can be resolved peacefully.

"I am well aware that such a dream is far from reachable. But I am certain that if we work together towards that goal, we can surely-"

"YOU KNOW NOTHING, AKI!" Jishaku yelled. "You act as if you were with us when they caged us. But no! They treated you like their own kind. But us?! They treated us like animals!"

Jishaku rolled up one her sleeves and showed Akihito the scars she bore.

"Look at this! Look at how they treated those who were born with gifts and traits!"

Akihito recalls what she was referring to. He was there along with the yokai when they were sent off, either to be branded… or worse. Some returns with more scars than any mortal should ever hold; and some… return cold and empty.

"I know… I was there with you. I saw the horrors my people have done to you and many like you. That is why-"

"'LIKE ME'! You see what he refers to us! Not of equals… but as their properties! Their servants!" Jishaku yells towards her fellow yokai as they grow restless from her words. "...As their slaves…"

"You're wrong, Jishaku!" Akihito yelled. "You, of all people, should know how much I value you and the others! Did you forget about the many loyal friends I have made in the past who are just like you? Did you forget the many days we bore together when we were captured? Did you forget… about the many tears I shed when I watched the many corpses that passed by us when they exited that horrifying tower?"

"Enough!" Jishaku yelled as she raised her blade once more at Akihito.

"Hand over the Elixir, and no blood shall be spilled."

"...And what do you plan to do with the Elixir?" He asked.

"Is it not obvious? As I said before, humanity will not accept us. To them, we're nothing more but monsters! And if it's monsters they seek, then monsters they shall receive."

"What?"

"I will drink the elixir, become immortal and lead my fellow brothers and sisters to wage war against the humans. We will conquer our homeland and make it land for all yokai! And any human who remains shall serve us!"

The yokai cheered and the soldiers behind Akihito were starting to get anxious. Akihito was losing control of the situation and if he doesn't resolve this soon, blood will be spilled tonight.

And so, Akihito makes one final attempt at resolving Jishaku's anger.

"Jisha… you have known me for a long time now. I have never once shown hostility towards you and the yokai. I have such admiration and respect for you all. You wield such amazing gifts and mankind truly fears it, but I believe that you all can make such a difference should we work together. We can build our homeland as a symbol of peace and prosperity."

Akihito walks towards Jishaku, not showing any hesitation nor fear towards her.

"You of all people should know how much I care for you and fellow yokai. I'd give my life to build a world where our kinds can truly live as equals."

He extends his hand out to her.

"Please, instead of fighting me over a little drink, help me build that future for our people."

Akihito made one final attempt to persuade her to stand down and come home. To come back to her sister and meet her nephew and niece. Jishaku had a hesitant expression on her until she changed it to determination.

"I will not seek a dream that is far reachable. What you seek is nothing more but a mere fantasy!" Jishaku slaps Akihito's hand out of the way and points her blade at him. "And it will be your final one if you do not hand over the elixir!"

The yokai started to yell as the guardsmen began unsheathing their blades and preparing to attack. Just before the situation escalated, a sudden cold emerged and frozen spikes rose between Akihito and Jishaku.

Akihito quickly backed away and his guardsmen walked closer to him for his safety. Jishaku jumped back instead to gain distance from the spikes. But she's well aware how they came to be.

She knows only one other person who would have mastered such a spell with such accuracy.

"Enough!" Yelled someone.

Akihito looked behind him and spotted Kaguya, walking out of the villa and confronting Jishaku.

"It's been a long time, hasn't it, dear sister?" Jishaku asked.

"Sister," Kaguya replied. "Why are you doing this? Did you not desire to walk along with mankind? Did you forget the dream we shared of traveling across our land, with no fear of revealing ourselves?"

Jishaku scoffed at her sister. "You are a fool! Men will always fear us! As they should be! We were gifted and these mortals oppressed us so they would not bow down to us!"

As the two women argue over their beliefs, Akihito hears a voice in his head.

"Aki, it's Kaguya," the voice said. "She can't hear us right now so listen. I finished the Elixir and Tadashi has it. I asked him to take it along with the kids to my old village. I will make an opportunity for you and your men to head inside and take the secret passage in your room."

Akihito frowned but kept his mouth shut. He can't let Jishaku know of the situation. But he did forget about Kaguya's unique ability that stands out with other yuuki-ona. Kaguya is telepathic; one of the most powerful ones he knows. Even though her and Jishaku were born as twins, Kaguya was more gifted with telepathic abilities while Jishaku was more efficient with her ability to control the cold. That and… one other unique gift.

"Enough!" Jishaku yelled. "Bring me the elixir now! Or your people will die tonight!"

Before Kaguya could answer, Akihito replied.

"Very well… Kaguya, go and bring the elixir out. My men will follow you."

Kaguya frowned and was about to use her telepathic ability to respond. However, Akihito gave a look of assurance; letting her know that he will be okay. Kaguya did not want to leave the emperor on his own; especially against her sister and a band of yokai. But Kaguya trusts Akihito. And… she's well aware that the emperor is no pushover. He would lay down his life for the sake of his people. Both humans AND yokai.

"My lord!" One of the guardsmen yelled. "It is our sworn duty to-"

"Go! Go with Kaguya and protect her and her family. Please…"

The guardsmen wanted to refuse, but they must obey the emperor's command. Even if it means abandoning him on his own against a horde of angry yokai. The guardsmen nodded and joined Kaguya to retreat.

"My lord," Kaguya said. "Be careful."

Akihito smiled and nodded.

And so, time has passed after Kaguya and the soldiers retreated into the villa. Jishaku grew restless and scowled.

"What is taking my sister so long?!" She asked.

Before Akihito could reply and buy some time, he heard a voice in his head.

"We just exited out of the passage. We will be heading to my village, Akihito. Just… come back to us safely."

Akihito chuckled.

"She's gone. Along with the elixir."

Jishaku scoffed, "Let me guess, she went towards our old village. Didn't she? I may not be as experienced as my sister, but that does not mean I could not read minds as well."

Akihito frowned.

"Jishaku, please… end this. Please. We do not have to settle this with our blades."

Jishaku scoffed.

"It was your people that marched into our villages and chained our people like animals! But I assure you, I will end it with us as the superior race."

Jishaku waved at her group.

"Deal with the emperor. I will find my sister."

Suddenly, flames burst around Akihito, as wings spread from behind his back. The wings were massive and beautiful; brightened in red. It glows as flames burst out of the feathers. Even though he is the Emperor of the homeland, he was also blessed with the powers of the Phoenix, the flaming bird of immortality.

In short, he too is a Yokai.

"...I will do… what I must."

Jishaku sighs as she waves her hand as a gesture, ordering her men to attack Akihito.

"...You will try."
