A Day with Dipper
"So do have some plan in mind for us today?" Gregory asked Dipper as the adult drove them to the Manor.
"Well you've expressed an interest in exploring and seeing some more supernatural creatures so I figured I could take you out and show some of them and even ones I consider friends," Dipper replied. "We'll just pick up Freddy first and maybe even get you some tech or items to defend yourself with, just to be on the safe side. "
"Awesome!" Gregory grinned, imagining all kinds of cool sci-fi gadgets and magic items he could potentially get his hands on. "Speaking of stuff to defend myself with… do you think you can make my fazerblaster into an actual laser gun?"
"Probably," Dipper snorted. "Though I don't think you're ready for something like that quite yet. How about this, I'll modify it so it can temporarily stun and blind more creatures than just robots if you hit them in the eyes. I'll even, make you something like my glasses to act as a targeting system to help you aim."
"Deal!" Gregory agreed excitedly. "But make them some sort of cool visor or something rather than just regular-looking glasses. And while you're upgrading my stuff, how about upgrading my fazwatch? It doesn't really work much anymore since we're no longer in the pizzaplex and maybe you can add even more features to it."
"If I add too much it'll have to become something bigger than a watch," Dipper replied, happy by how excited Gregory was.
"That's fine," Gregory easily nodded. "In fact, we could make them a pair of high-tech gauntlets with like a mini-computer interface like I've seen in some cool futuristic movies. Oh! And can you add grappling hooks to them too? Mabel promised she'll be teaching me how to use a grappling hook soon."
"That shouldn't be too hard," Dipper hummed in thought. "And I'll be able to connect the visor to the gauntlets so they work together and you can use the gauntlets to switch between different modes in the visor, like a night vision or infrared mode, or have it record things it's seeing… yeah… I can have fun with that… any other gadget ideas?"
"Um…" Gregory thought it over, trying to think of what would go well with what he was already getting. "Maybe a pair of rocket boots to top it all off?"
"I'm not going to give you rocket boots," Dipper laughed and shook his head. "But we can discuss other potential high-tech boots. Maybe something that can temporarily help you run faster like what I did in the Pizzaplex."
"Finnneee," Gregory grudgingly conceded. "But at least make it so it can help me jump higher too when I need to."
"That's a fair compromise," Dipper nodded. "I can start working on that stuff once we get back from our outing."
"Sweet!" Gregory cheered. "I can't wait to have all that stuff. I'll be like some sort of cool sci-fi action hero!"
"Indeed," Dipper chuckled.
They soon arrived at the Manor and met up with Freddy in the workshop. Dipper showed off some of his inventions and even let Gregory try a couple, but didn't let the boy keep most of them as they were too dangerous for the boy to use outside of a safe controlled environment. For now, it was settled that Gregory could have the flashlight that could shrink or grow things as well as one of Mabel's spare grappling hooks to have for now. Next, they grabbed a lot of food for an outdoor lunch from the kitchen, storing it in Freddy's stomach hatch for convincing.
They then began to hike and Dipper would point out the unusual creatures they could see as they did so. Some of them Gregory and Freddy had seen before and others they had not. But all of it was interesting as Dipper would talk about cool facts about the creatures or entertaining stories about an interaction that either Dipper himself or one of his family members had had with the creature in question. It was very fun and Gregory would often laugh at the stories and ask questions to either learn more about the creature or about the family member that had featured in the story. Gregory was having so much fun that he hadn't even realized how far and long they had walked until his stomach growled with hunger.
"Perhaps we should stop and so you two have lunch," Freddy suggested once he heard the noise, much to Gregory's embarrassment.
"We'll have lunch in a moment," Dipper promised, gesturing to the trail up one of the mountains they were currently on. "I actually have a specific destination in mind for us to rest and eat at."
Freddy nodded and Gregory groaned, starting to feel the strain of the hike now that he was distracted by Dipper's stories. Thankfully their destination wasn't much further and soon Dipper was leading them into a cave. It was a little spooky as there were bones of animals that had been presumably killed and eaten by the cave's inhabitants but there was also a few things that made it more homely like a carpet and battery-powered lamps to keep the place lit. But of course, the strange cave lost Gregory's interest when they finally got the cave's owner, a giant bear with several heads growing out of one body. Gregory gaped in shock as Dipper waved at the bear with a friendly smile.
"Hey Multi-Bear," Dipper greeted. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing well," the Multi-Bear replied. "Had to chase a few gnomes out of my cave this morning but other than that it's been quiet. "How are you doing? And who are these new guests?"
"This is Gregory and Freddy," Dipper introduced. "They're from our most recent big adventure and basically a part of the family now."
"Nice to meet you Mr. Multi-Bear," Freddy replied politely.
"Right… nice to meet you," Gregory added, snapping out of his shock.
"The pleasure is all mine," The Multi-Bear said with a chuckle. "How about you tell me all about this adventure."
"Of course," Dipper nodded. "We even brought lunch."
"Wonderful!" The Multi-Bear rumbled in pleasure.
Freddy opened his hatch and Dipper began pulling the food out, the large amount making a lot more sense now that they saw who they were sharing the meal with. The group settled on the soft carpet and began to eat and share stories, the group of their adventure in the Pizzaplex and the Multi-Bear told Gregory and Freddy how he had met Dipper and the Pines Family and how he and Dipper had been friends pretty much since that first summer. It was a pleasant experience and Freddy and Gregory easily promised to visit the Multi-Bear again once it was time to leave.
The return hike was shorter, as Dipper could tell Gregory was getting tired from all the walking and so they didn't meander quite as much. Gregory was grateful for that and was happy to let his feet rest once they made it back to the manor. They passed the rest of the afternoon in Dipper's workshop as the older man worked on improving Gregory's fazerblaster as promised. Dipper would explain what he was doing as he worked and Gregory would watch and listen with fascination. Gregory didn't understand everything, but he got the gist of it, especially since Dipper was willing to help clarify any questions Gregory had.
Gregory's favorite part was getting to test out the new and improved blaster by having a mini-laser tag battle with Dipper in the backyard, which had been fitted out with a private obstacle course. It was thrilling to chase the adult around and climb across the various structures. Dipper did go easy on Gregory, but not too easy so Gregory still felt accomplished when he got a lucky shot at Dipper's eyes and momentarily stunned the man, making Gregory the winner of their little battle.
All in all, Gregory can easily say he had a great day with Dipper.
