B = Breathtaking
In an area of Tokyo, japan. Near the sea.
The cool evening breeze carried the scent of saltwater as Nakiri Erina carefully examined the letter in her hands. It was simple, hand-written in Soma Yukihira's familiar scrawl. She furrowed her brow, wondering what on earth he could be up to this time. But curiosity tugged at her, urging her to read on.
"Meet me at the place where the world meets the sky. Follow the map. — Soma"
Erina sighed, both exasperated and intrigued. Only Soma would send a vague note like this, leaving her to figure out the rest. The map was drawn hastily, but its route was clear: a cliffside overlooking the sea, a place they had visited when they were little, but not often. She was no stranger to the sharp, bracing wind that would blow across it, nor to the way the sea seemed to stretch endlessly before them. What could Soma possibly be planning?
She glanced over at her reflection in the window—twin braids framing her face, her usual composed expression giving way to curiosity. She hadn't been to that cliffside in years. The last time, it was with Soma, just the two of them, as children.
"What has he planned this time?" she muttered under her breath.
With a deep breath, she grabbed her coat and scarf and set off in the direction indicated on the map.
The climb up the cliff was more difficult than she expected, especially as the winds grew sharper. But the sense of anticipation pushed her forward. As Erina crested the final rise, the sight before her made her stop in her tracks.
A small table was set up on the cliffside, bathed in warm golden light. The table was elegantly adorned with delicate flowers, their soft hues contrasting with the deep blue of the ocean below. Candles flickered in glass holders, their soft light casting a warm glow on the scene. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks below was the only thing that filled the silence.
Soma stood at the far end, casually leaning against the railing with his back to her. When he heard her approach, he straightened up and grinned, that familiar mischievous gleam in his eyes.
"Well, well, Erina, you made it," he said, his voice filled with that usual teasing warmth.
Erina blinked in surprise, unable to hide the soft smile tugging at her lips. "What is all this, Soma?" she asked, her voice carrying a mixture of amusement and disbelief.
He motioned to the table with a dramatic flourish. "Dinner," he said, as though it were the most obvious answer in the world. "I thought it'd be nice to revisit the past. You know, recreate some of the dishes we used to have when we were kids."
"Here?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. The place was beautiful, but it was an odd location for a dinner. "In the middle of nowhere?"
Soma chuckled and stepped closer. "Why not? You've always talked about how much you love the view here. Plus, I've got a surprise for you."
With that, he guided her to the table. Erina reluctantly sat down, her curiosity piqued despite herself. As Soma pulled out the chair for her, she couldn't help but notice how he seemed... different. There was a certain gentleness to him tonight, a calmness that contrasted with his usual energy. She didn't comment on it, though. It would be too odd to mention.
The meal began with a simple soup, a recipe from Soma's father's diner, but done in a way that only he could manage. It was rich, yet comforting, warm enough to chase away the chill of the night air. The flavors were nostalgic, so familiar to Erina that it took her a moment to realize she hadn't tasted it in years.
"How did you manage to make this here?" Erina asked, her voice laced with admiration as she took another spoonful. "in a place this remote and quite far from any proper kitchen."
Soma smirked, sitting down across from her. "I'm a lot more versatile than you give me credit for, Erina. Besides, food has a way of bringing people together, don't you think?"
Erina couldn't deny it. With each bite, she was drawn back to their childhood—days spent eating in his father's diner, laughter echoing between them as they argued about silly things, the warm comfort of each other's presence.
As the meal progressed, Soma continued to bring out dish after dish, each one telling a story. There was a delicate omelette, just like the one they had shared in the diner during one of their many impromptu lunches. Then, a roasted fish, prepared just as Soma's father would do, but elevated with fresh herbs and spices that danced on Erina's tongue. Even the dessert—an elevated version of their favorite childhood chocolate cake—was perfect, each bite melting in her mouth like a sweet, familiar memory.
By the time they reached the final dish, Erina was overwhelmed—not just by the flavors but by the depth of feeling Soma had put into this meal. He had taken something simple, something they both shared from their past, and transformed it into something breathtaking. It was more than just food; it was a gesture, a piece of his heart.
She placed her fork down slowly, feeling a lump rise in her throat. "You really put a lot of thought into this, didn't you?" she whispered.
Soma smiled softly, his eyes never leaving hers. "Yeah, well... You've always inspired me, Erina. You're the reason I push myself every day. I wanted tonight to be special—for you."
Erina felt her heart skip a beat at his words. The wind shifted, the warmth of the fairy lights glimmering against the evening sky, and for a moment, all she could see was him. The boy who had always been beside her, pushing her to be better, challenging her in ways that no one else had ever dared.
She took a deep breath and met his gaze. "Soma..." Her voice wavered for just a moment before she regained her composure. "You inspire me too. More than anyone ever has."
Soma's grin softened, and he leaned forward, his voice quieter now, more sincere than it had ever been. "Erina, I—"
Before he could finish, Erina stood up, her chair scraping against the rocky ground. The cool night air enveloped her, but she didn't shiver. She stepped closer to the edge of the cliff, her eyes scanning the vast, starry sky.
Soma stood up too, walking over to her. "Erina?"
She looked back at him, her heart racing in her chest. The stars above them were bright, and the ocean stretched far into the distance, but in that moment, the only thing that mattered was him.
"Soma, I—"
Without another word, Soma closed the distance between them, his hands gently cupping her face as he leaned in, his lips brushing hers in a soft kiss. It was gentle at first, tentative, but the longer they lingered in the moment, the more intense the connection between them became. Erina's heart raced as she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, deepening the kiss under the stars.
When they finally pulled away, both were breathless. Soma smiled at her, his usual grin softened by something deeper, something far more meaningful.
"Breathtaking, huh?" he whispered, his voice full of warmth.
Erina smiled back, her eyes sparkling with emotion. "Yeah. Breathtaking."
And for that one moment, in that one perfect night, everything else faded away. It was just the two of them—together, sharing a love that was as vast and breathtaking as the world around them.
That's a wrap!
Bye bye
