C = Cuddle
The soft patter of rain on the windowsill was the first thing Erina heard when she awoke on her bed. At first, it was just the faintest sound, but as she stretched and blinked her eyes open, the rhythm of the rain seemed to grow louder, more insistent. She shifted under the blankets, feeling the warmth of the soft sheets that surrounded her.
It was a lazy Sunday morning.
For a moment, she lay there, listening to the rain, allowing herself to be cocooned in the tranquility of the day. But then, a familiar scent filled the room, mingling with the fresh, earthy smell of rain—a smell that could only mean one thing.
"Soma?" Erina called, her voice still thick with sleep.
Her eyes scanned the room and landed on him. Soma was standing by the bedside, holding a tray of food with that ridiculous grin on his face. "Morning, Erina," he said cheerfully, placing the tray down gently on the bed. "Made you breakfast."
Erina blinked, still not fully awake. There, sitting on the tray, was an assortment of dishes. There was a bowl of perfectly scrambled eggs, a thick slice of toast with butter, a small bowl of fresh fruit, and—was that a strange-looking pancake topped with what appeared to be caramelized onions? She arched an eyebrow as she glanced up at him.
"Is this... your idea of breakfast?" she asked, her tone skeptical.
Soma just laughed, settling down beside her. "It's breakfast, okay? Besides, I know you've got a thing for 'perfect' dishes, so I thought I'd mix things up for once."
Erina stared at the pancake, unsure of whether to laugh or groan. It certainly wasn't what she would call a gourmet breakfast. The onions were a bit much, even for her. She frowned, but a small smile tugged at her lips despite herself. "You're impossible," she muttered, but as she took the first bite, she couldn't help but admit it was surprisingly tasty.
"See? I'm a genius," Soma grinned, clearly proud of himself.
"You're a menace," she replied, but her voice lacked the usual sharpness. There was a quiet, contentedness that filled the space between them as they ate, the sound of the rain providing a soothing backdrop to the moment.
As Erina finished her breakfast, she sat back against the pillows, her head resting against the soft fluff. Soma, on the other hand, immediately hopped up and disappeared into the kitchen, no doubt getting ready to make his next chaotic creation.
A quiet chuckle escaped her lips as she watched him go. Despite his often reckless nature, Soma had a way of making even the most mundane moments feel special. She shook her head, feeling her heart warm at the thought. She decided to get off her bed and head for the kitchen where she finds him carrying a baskets of carrots.
"What are you planning now?" Erina asked, eyes narrowing as she watched him start peeling and then chopping them up without hesitation.
"Stew," Soma replied with a grin. "I thought it'd be fun to make something for dinner together."
"Together?" Erina repeated. "You know I'm not the one who needs help in the kitchen."
"Oh, I know." Soma smirked, holding up the knife as if to taunt her. "But if you're so good, then why not show me how it's done?"
Erina gave him a sharp look. "You really want my help? I thought you preferred solo."
"You know me too well," Soma said, laughing. "But I'll admit it, your 'perfection' has its uses. So, come on, show me how to do it right."
Rolling her eyes, Erina gets a spare apron on the side and puts it on. Washing her hands and then taking a knife into her grasp. "Fine, but don't get in the way."
Soma grinned, following her with an exaggerated skip in his step. "I'll try my best to be useful."
The kitchen quickly became a whirlwind of activity. Soma, predictably, was all over the place, tossing ingredients in every direction, while Erina meticulously measured and chopped, correcting his every mistake with a sigh. It didn't take long for the place to look like a disaster, but despite the chaos, they somehow managed to make the stew come together in the end—Soma's messiness counteracted by Erina's precision.
As they sat down to enjoy the meal later that evening, Soma was the first to speak.
"You know," he said between bites of stew, "you're not so bad when you're not criticizing every little thing I do."
Erina shot him a teasing look. "And you're not as bad when you don't deliberately mess things up just to make me guide you."
Soma smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Hey, you know it's fun to see you in action. You get this really cute look on your face when you're serious about something."
Erina's cheeks flushed, and she quickly looked away, trying to hide her embarrassment behind a sip of water. "You're impossible."
Soma chuckled, then fell silent for a moment. The rain outside had grown heavier, the soft tapping against the windows filling the room with a soothing rhythm. As the evening wore on, the warmth from the stew made Erina feel more comfortable, her earlier worries slipping away.
But as the night grew quieter, she felt something else—a quiet weight in her chest, something she couldn't quite put into words.
Soma, sensing her sudden stillness, looked over at her and, without a word, stood up from the table. He walked over to the couch, patting the space beside him. "Come here, Erina. Let's just relax for a while."
She hesitated, unsure, but something in his expression told her this wasn't the time for resistance. With a soft sigh, she made her way over to the couch and sat beside him, the silence between them comfortable rather than awkward.
Soma wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close. Erina tensed at first, but his touch was warm, gentle, and reassuring, and she melted into his embrace. He didn't say anything; he just held her, letting the quiet moment stretch out between them.
"I'm not the 'God Tongue' all the time, you know," Erina murmured, her voice soft. "I'm just... human."
Soma's fingers brushed her hair lightly, his chin resting atop her head. "I know, Erina. And it's okay. You don't have to be perfect around me."
Erina closed her eyes, letting out a soft sigh of relief as she relaxed further into his arms. With him, she didn't have to be perfect. She could just be herself.
And that, she realized, was all she ever really needed.
The rain continued to fall outside, and before long, they were both drowsy from the warmth of the fire and the comfort of each other's company. Soma's steady breathing and the rhythmic sound of the rain were enough to lull them into a peaceful sleep, the two of them tangled together under a shared blanket, the world outside forgotten for a little while.
