RAW is WAR: 29/5/2000
RAW is WAR was live at the General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. RAW kicked off with the Undertaker riding his motorcycle to ringside. Before Undertaker could speak his mind, the McMahon-Helmsley Regime made their way into the arena. With a sarcastic tone in his voice, Triple H welcomed Undertaker back to the World Wrestling Federation. He then became very serious and told the Undertaker that things have changed and that Triple H is the man now. The Rock's music then hit, and the Great One made his way into the arena. However, Mr. McMahon spoke before The Rock could, accusing The Rock of being on the Undertaker's side. The Rock then assured McMahon that he has not aligned himself with the Undertaker. That being said, McMahon then named a match for later in the evening - The Rock vs. the Undertaker.
The ho train made its way into Vancouver as Godfather teamed up with Dean Malenko and The Kat to take on the team of D'Lo Brown, Saturn and Terri. D'Lo, Saturn and Terri proved to be the better team, defeating Godfather, Malenko and The Kat after Saturn landed a flying elbow smash.
The European Championship was on the line next as Eddie Guerrero defended his title against the North American Hero Kurt Angle. The match was filled with a number of beautiful technical maneuvers, however, it ended in controversial fashion, as Eddie got the win after Chyna interfered on his behalf.
Too Cool challenged Edge and Christian for the Tag Team Championship. The action was fast and furious. Both teams looked great, however, only one team could win. In the end it was Too Cool winning the match and the titles after Grand Master Sexay pinned Christian.
Kicking off the King of the Ring tournament, Shane McMahon battled Rikishi in a qualifying match. Rikishi won the match via disqualification when Shane hit the big man with a steel chair.
Y2J teamed up with Matt and Jeff Hardy to take on Val Venis and T&A. The crowd was firmly behind Y2J and the Hardys. However, it was Val and T&A who got the win.
Next up was The Bladewolf vs Chris Benoit in a Submission match for the Intercontinental Championship.
OOOOOOOOWWWWHHHHOOOOOOO!
'Ooh, wah-ah-ah-ah! Get up, come on, get down with the sickness!'
Down with the Sickness by Disturbed played to a big pop from the crowd as the Bladewolf walked out, accompanied by Trish Stratus. The bell rings as Lillian Garcia begins introductions.
"The following contest is a Submission match and is for the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship! Introducing first, the challenger. Being accompanied by Trish Stratus, from Death Valley, weighing 310 lbs... THE BLADEWOLF!" Lillian announced.
Bladewolf removes his vest halfway down the ramp and tosses it into the crowd before stopping at the end of the ramp. He shares a kiss with Trish before sliding into the ring while Trish walks around to stand near the commentary tables. Bladewolf paces insides the ring before slowing down as his theme dies down and he stares up at the stage.
Chris Benoit's theme hits and the Intercontinental Champion walks out, making his way to the ring. "And his opponent, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, weighing 229 lbs, he is the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion... CHRIS BENOIT!"
Benoit cracks his neck as he walks down the ramp. Halfway down, he removes hi title from around his waist to drape it over his shoulder. He slides into the ring and holds the title up right in the Bladewolf's face but gets shoved in the face for it. Benoit smirks... THEN THEY GO AT IT!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Neither Benoit or the Bladewolf were wasting time as they went at it in a fist-for-fist exchange, refusing to back down. The last time they fought was last week on RAW for the title, but that had gotten interrupted due to interference from Hardcore Holly. Tonight, there would be a sure-fire winner between the two. One of them was walking away Intercontinental Champion.
Bladewolf ducks underneath a right from Benoit, grabs him around the waist and goes for a German Suplex but Benoit managed to flip over and land on his feet. He quickly steikes and goes for the Crossface but the Bladewolf pushes him off and backs off.
Benoit smirks at him and makes a small space between his fingers. "That close." He said.
Bladewolf rolls his shoulders as he stood, then gestures for Benoit to bring it.
The two men lock up and have a test of strength. Benoit breaks it and switches it into a side headlock. Bladewolf shoves Benoit off and into the ropes but Benoit comes back with a shoulder bash, sending the Bladewolf down onto his back. Benoit runs, hits the ropes, comes back as Bladewolf slides underneath him. Benoit hits the ropes again as Bladewolf gets to his feet and catches Benoit in a hip-toss! Bladewolf brings his elbow down onto Benoit's chest, and Benoit quickly rolls out of the ring to get away and recover.
Bladewolf follows after him and goes to grab him but Benoit lands a chop across his chest, making Bladewolf back off. Benoit runs and kicks the back of Bladewolf's left ankle, dropping the big man to a knee. Benoit punches away at his challenger's forehead, then gets him into a headlock before... HITTING A DDT RIGHT ONTO THE FLOOR!
"Come on, Benoit! Get him back into the ring!" The referee called.
Benoit gets to his feet and slowly pulls Bladewolf back to his before gripping the back of the head as he pulls him over to the steel steps and then rams Bladewolf's head right off them. Benoit keeps his grip and bounces Bladewolf's skull off the ring apron before tossing him into the ring.
Benoit rolls into the ring and walks over to Bladewolf, bends down to grab him... WHEN BLADEWOLF PULLS HIM DOWN INTO THE DEATHBITE CROSSFACE! WILL CHRIS BENOIT TAP OUT?!
Benoit yells in pain as he scratches and claws towards the ropes, but Bladewolf yanks harder on his head as he shuffles them away from the ropes and into the middle of the ring. Benoit keeps trying to find a way out of this, but Bladewolf maintains his hold around his face and applies further pressure while pulling back on the head, bringing pain to the neck.
Benoit's arm raises and he clenches and unclenches his fist, tempted to tap but pride refusing to let him.
Seeing this, Bladewolf applies further pressure and pulls the head back... AND BENOIT TAPS! WE HAVE A NEW INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Down with the Sickness plays as Bladewolf releases Benoit and gets to his feet. "Here is your winner and the NEW World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion... THE BLADEWOLF!" Lillian Garcia announced.
Trish takes the title from the referee and jumps her boyfriend in a hug with her arms and legs around him. Bladewolf holds her up as she raises the Intercontinental Championship for him. He then puts her down and she hands him the title which he stares at, the title that he never lost, back in his hands once again. For the second time in his career, the Bladewolf has won the Intercontinental Championship. Bladewolf flips his hair back and raises the title.
After lowering it, Trish takes it and puts it around his waist before the couple take their leave and head to the back.
Short chapter, I know, but... new Champion!
