SmackDown: 1/6/2000
SmackDown was live at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. Too Cool made their way to the ring for their first defense of the Tag Team Championship. Their opponents were the Hardy Boyz, as Lita watched from backstage. The Hardy Boyz were about to get the win, but the referee's count was interrupted at two by Kane's entrance music. He made his way down to the ring carrying the Federation Title, which he stole from Triple H on RAW.
After clearing the ring of the Hardys and Too Cool, Kane grabbed a microphone and called out the Game, saying that if Hunter wanted the championship back, he would have to come out and get it.
Triple H then entered with his wife, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. He told the Big Red Machine that the belt is Triple H's property and that Kane should do the right thing and give it back. In exchange for the title, Triple H offered Kane anything he wanted, except a title match. It was decided that if Kane beat Triple H in a non-title match later that evening, Kane would become the No. 1 contender. Kane then told the Game that he "might be that damn good, but I am that damn bad."
Out back, Vince arrived in a limo along with the Road Dogg and X-Pac. As they went to get out of the car, the Undertaker made another attempt at running Mr. McMahon down on his motorcycle. The Phenom then told the trio that he wanted a title shot. Vince, fearful of the 'Taker's wrath, said that he would be the No. 1 contender for the title, as long as he defeated both the Dogg and X-Pac in a Handicap Match that night.
The Game was disgusted with Vince's actions. Hunter told him that next time he should ask first. Meanwhile, Shane pulled in with Edge and Christian begging him for a Tag Title rematch. Shane told them if they defeated The Rock in a Handicap Match, then they could be the No. 1 contenders for the titles. But if The Rock won, he would be No.1 contender for the Federation Title.
As Shane met up with the rest of the faction, they all just stared at him in disbelief.
In a King of the Ring qualifying match, Kurt Angle promised that he would win the King of the Ring no matter who his opponent was. That opponent was the tough Texan Bradshaw. Angle got the win after an Olympic Slam.
Backstage, the Bladewolf was shown in his locker room, receiving a pop from the crowd in Tacoma. He was putting his Intercontinental title around his waist when he heard the door opening, causing him to look up and his expression shifted to a glare.
Chris Benoit walked into view, getting boos from the crowd as he stared down the Bladewolf.
"I'm not here to waste your time with excuses." Benoit started, with the Bladewolf unblinking. "You won this past Monday, fair and square. The match could've gone on longer, but at least nobody interfered. But we both know we can put on a better, bigger match in front of a larger crowd."
Bladewolf slightly exhales. "Is there a point to this?" He asks.
Benoit gets in his face. "I want my rematch at King of the Ring." The crowd cheered at that as the Bladewolf looked away for a moment then looked at Benoit. "But we should make it more interesting. Not a normal singles match, not a Submission, two guys like us ought to fight with no rules, no restrictions. So how about you, me, Intercontinental title, King of the Ring... No Holds Barred?"
The crowd cheered at that, while Bladewolf stared Benoit in the eye before he gave a slight smirk. "You're on. Watch tonight and see what happens to D'Lo Brown, because what I'm going to do to him is now a preview for what i'm going to do to you come King of the Ring."
Benoit smirked back. "I'll be watching." With that, Benoit leaves with Bladewolf glaring after him.
Next up, the Bladewolf vs D'Lo Brown for the Intercontinental Championship.
OOOOOOOOWWWWHHHHOOOOOOO!
'Ooh, wah-ah-ah-ah! Get up, come on, get down with the sickness!'
Down with the Sickness by Disturbed played to a big pop from the crowd as the Bladewolf walked out, accompanied by Trish Stratus. He had the WWF Intercontinental Championship around his waist. The couple make their way to the ring as the bell rings and Tony Chimel begins introductions.
"The following contest is scheduled for one-fall and is for the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Championship! Making his way to the ring first, accompanied by Trish Stratus, from Death Valley, weighing 310 lbs, he is the World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion... THE BLADEWOLF!" Tony Chimel announced.
Hitting the ring, Bladewolf takes off his Intercontinental Championship and hands it to the referee before removing his vest which he hands to a stagehand. He gives Trish a peck on the lips before she gets out of the ring as Bladewolf's theme dies down.
D'Lo Brown's theme hits and he comes out. "And introducing the challenger! From Chicago, Illinois, weighing in at 268 lbs... D'LO BROWN!" Tony Chimel leaves the ring.
Brown makes his way to the ring and rolls in. He mouths off to Bladewolf before hitting one of the corners, posing on the middle turnbuckle. He gets down and stands across the ring from the Bladewolf as the referee raises the Intercontinental Championship, showing it's on the line. He hands it to someone at ringside before calling for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Bladewolf walks over to D'Lo, who quickly avoids his attempt to grab him. The Bladewolf backs D'Lo into the corner, and when D'Lo attempts to get out of it, Bladewolf grabs him and shoves him right back into the corner. Bladewolf lunges but D'lo ducks and backs away as Bladewolf turns to him.
Bladewolf continues to stalk D'Lo, who attempts to run past but Kane grabs him and throws him into the corner again, then goes for an elbow but D'Lo ducks out of the way and lands a right hand to Bladewolf that didn't affect the big man. D'Lo hits another, to no effect. D'Lo lands another right hand, to which Bladewolf didn't feel and shrugged off
D'Lo goes for another right, but Bladewolf blocks it and knocks him down with a right punch of his own.
Bladewolf goes on the attack, landing a clubbing blow to the side. Bladewolf pulls D'Lo into the ring and lands another right hand, dropping D'Lo to a knee. Bladewolf then grabs D'Lo and rams his head off the top turnbuckle, then brings him over to another corner where he rams D'Lo's head off the top turnbuckle. D'Lo stumbles towards Bladewolf who lands a big uppercut, dropping D'Lo to a knee again.
Bladewolf pulls D'Lo to his feet, scoops him up and slams him to the mat.
Bladewolf runs, bounces off the ropes and goes for a running elbow drop but D'Lo moved out of the way. Bladewolf then sits up.
D'Lo runs, rebounds off the ropes and hits a low dropkick to Bladewolf's chest, knocking him onto his back. D'Lo gets to his feet and mouths down at Bladewolf, who sits up, looking right at D'Lo.
D'Lo struck Bladewolf repeatedly at the Demon Wolf got to his feet, then gave him a little slap before he rebounds off the ropes, ducks a right and comes back with a clothesline that doesn't take Bladewolf down.
D'Lo is frustrated that nothing is working on Bladewolf. So he goes to the middle turnbuckle when Bladewolf walks up and grabs him by the throat, choking him. Bladewolf releases and scares the referee back, then whirls around and clotheslines D'Lo.
D'Lo stumbles to his feet, and Bladewolf hits an uppercut, knocking him onto the ropes. Bladewolf then Irish whips D'Lo who comes off the ropes and straight into a big boot from Bladewolf. D'Lo stumbles to his feet and Bladewolf runs... AND HITS THE SPEAR! Not wasting further time, Bladewolf grabs D'Lo and... LOCKS IN THE DEATHBITE CROSSFACE! D'LO BROWN INSTANTLY TAPS OUT! THE BLADEWOLF RETAINS HIS TITLE!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
Down with the Sickness plays as Bladewolf gets to his feet. "Here is your winner and STILL World Wrestling Federation Intercontinental Champion... THE BLADEWOLF!" Tony Chimel announced.
Trish retrieves the Intercontinental Championship and hands it to her boyfriend as he gets out of the ring. Bladewolf places the title over his right shoulder, puts an arm around Trish's waist and they make their way to the back.
And that's it for this chapter.
