Chapter 20: Unknown Territory
In an unknown place in Canada, the Legion has regrouped in a technological laboratory while remaining hidden from all enemies. Luckily, Polaris was smart enough to make his own cloaking devices from scratch with his experience with magnetism and modern technology. And every member of the group have all survived and have been recovering from their wounds from their fight against the Justice League, Regime and Darkseid.
It did not take long for them to figure out where they are, given Polaris' research. In fact, they're watching the most recent news right now. One involving Superman.
They listened to his speech at the White House and his motive to take over, just like he did their world. This does not surprise even them.
"Typical, even for Superman and Diana." Cheetah said, sharpening her claws. "He must be that desperate, considering his conquest fell with the Regime back in our home world."
"Anyone would start over anew to regain what they lost, even if it means starting somewhere in unknown territory." Polaris replied to her.
"But no one walks away from their top objective. Superman never did. Nor did Batman." Deadshot flicks one of his bullets in the air before catching it. "But where does this lead us?"
"In case you've forgotten, everyone is here. And Batman has made friends with some weird ass soldiers that glow. They don't look like superheroes. Definitely not Amazons or Atlanteans." Black Manta approached with his helmet off. "We're stranded here. With all our enemies. We might as well kill them and be done with it."
"But where will that get us? Other than fulfilling our vendetta's, it will not solve our unfortunate mutual problem that we reluctantly share." Bane points out.
"Bane is right. And as of recently, those aliens that got pulled here have taken Superman and his lackeys with them. We can only hope he is dead. This gives us an advantage." Polaris tells them.
"So what do you propose?" Deadshot asked.
"Batman isn't the only one who placed trackers on his precious machine. I can hijack his trackers with my own, so we all know where the missing pieces are." Polaris explained.
"So we find them before anyone else does. I like it. But we're gonna run into some unfriendly faces. I hope we do." Red Hood said.
"We can hope so, Red Hood." Polaris said. "But whoever we come across, we cannot leave any witnesses."
"That will only attract Batman and his new friends to us. For all we know, Superman might escape." Black Manta tells him. "If they come and beat us, it'll be on you."
Doctor Polaris uses his magnetic powers and throws Black Manta into the floor and closes his hand halfway. He begins crushing his armor, giving Black Manta a hard time to breathe.
"Then I'll make sure I won't be the only one to bear the burden of failure. You get me?" Polaris glared at him before releasing him, making him gasp for air. "Now then. Luckily, one of them is closest to our location. We move out immediately. Do I make myself clear?"
"What should we do next?" Deadshot asked.
"You and Zoom will search far and wide for Wayne and his friends. Red Hood, Manta and Cheetah. You three are with me.
Everyone nods as they head out. But where is the first cube of the inter dimensional gateway? Doctor Polaris leaves with Black Manta, Red Hood and Cheetah to head to their unknown destination.
Somewhere in a forest in a mysterious location, Nightwolf is sitting with their legs crossed at a fire. He sat in complete silence, after having been told by his friends about the new visitors and was instructed to keep an eye out for anyone suspicious.
Nightwolf is unsure whether or not that the visitors should be completely trusted, given the horrendous things they have done. Batman isn't proud of some things he has done. But then he heard something.
He stood up and they both hear the sound of some sort of static electricity. But what could that be?
Nightwolf runs to see what the noise is about. He dashes through the trees and cut through the leaves and branches. When he reached the oceanbank, he sees one of Mister Terrific's dimensional cubes.
"This must be one of Batman's friend's dimensional gate parts. They said that this machine has scattered throughout the realms. This is their way of getting home." Nightwolf realized.
As he approached closer, he heard bubbles popping up onto the water surface. He slowly steps forward, holding a tomahawk in his hand. He tightens his grip as he prepares for the danger.
Within seconds, Aquaman leaps out from the water and thrusts his trident forward, but Nightwolf blocks the blow with his own weapon before kicking him back, with Arthur sliding on the sand.
"Stranger. As King of Atlantis, I demand that you relinquish Holt's transdimensional gateway." Aquaman demanded.
"You… you're one of the visitors. Batman mentioned you. That you and someone else are the only ones missing and unaccounted for."
"I remained in hiding with my people since coming to this world, knowing that there is no Atlantis here, and I had my soldiers scout the seas to find the machine, while becoming aware that we are in a completely different world." Aquaman explained.
"And you chose not to attack because of Superman?" Nightwolf asked.
"Precisely, knowing that I cannot defeat him by normal means. He and Wayne can battle each other to the death for all I care. My only concern is reaching Atlantis." Arthur said.
"Wait. We do not need to fight. We have common enemies." Nightwolf said.
"I do not care! I tire of putting my people through wars and them dying in front of me!" Aquaman said. They charge at each other.
As the two fight, Damian Wayne, the new Nightwing, hides in the bushes. He quietly brings out his escrima sticks, ready to attack and kill. He knows that Aquaman can't be trusted due to his independence. He waits for the right moment for one of them to go down.
Nightwolf and Aquaman continue to battle it out with each other. Aquaman is on the offensive as he continues to try to stab Nightwolf with his mighty trident. Nightwolf deflects every swing with his tomahawk weapons before seizing the chance to elbow him in the chin before slamming his fist down on his head before using his powers to shoulder bash him backwards. Aquaman spins his trident before slamming the small endpoint down to the ground, and suddenly, Nightwolf is thrown in the air when a big spiral of water comes out and painfully hits him in the back, allowing Aquaman to grab his shoulder with his trident and throw him down.
Nightwolf gets back up and kicks Aquaman back. He swings both axes horizontally, but both swings are blocked, allowing the king to scoop Nightwolf off of his feet, sending him into the air again, but this time, Aquaman jumps and delivers a strong kick to the chest, cracking it and sending Nightwolf down to the ground. Arthur has him pinned.
"Now. A low being such as yourself is no match for me." Aquaman points his weapon at Nightwolf's face, but then he is suddenly blasted in the back. His back feels slightly burned, but he is not feeling weak whatsoever. He gets up and this gains the two young one's attention as well.
The two stop fighting and see some members of the Legion. Polaris, Black Manta, Cheetah and Red Hood have arrived.
"You again?" Aquaman recognized them.
"I see that you care about your enemies, Aquaman. A pity I can't bring myself to care for the king of fish." Polaris replied and smirked evilly.
"You. You're the Legion we were warned about." Nightwolf said.
"Correct. I knew Bruce Wayne would recruit this world's heroes. It is not surprising, given his lack of independence. He's not strong enough to do anything by himself and he is certainly not wise enough to have his technology destroyed when he had the chance." Polaris claimed.
The Legion are all ready to fight. Red Hood locks and loads his two guns while Cheetah brings out her claws. The two heroes gather together.
"If I am to make a suggestion, I say we must put aside our differences and deal with one of the bigger threats than Superman first." Nightwolf said.
"On that, I can agree." Aquaman nodded.
Black Manta fires his beams from his helmet, which Nightwolf uses his bear spirit to endure the hit, but he slides backwards in the process, Aquaman is briefly distracted until he blocks blades coming from the metal man., before kicking him back.
"I am not surprised you survived the transfer, Manta." Arthur said in slight annoyance.
"I have cheated death before, Aquaman, even before Superman's rule over our Earth. By the time I get back, Atlantis will be trashed." Black Manta said as Nightwolf returns to help Aquaman as Polaris does the same for Black Manta.
Aquaman engages Polaris and tries to swing his trident, but Polaris easily stops it with his magnetic abilities and flicks him backwards. Nightwolf shoulder bashes Black Manta and uppercuts him into the air before slamming his tomahawk down onto his leg, sending the armored man down to the ground. Black Manta activates his jet propellers on his suit and flies upwards and fires a harpoon cable at Nightwolf, wrapping him up. Black Manta pulls Nightwolf into the sky and elbows him in the gut, punches his throat and throws him down to the ground where Arthur is.
The two nod to each other and decide to switch opponents. Aquaman throws his trident in the air at Polaris, which he stops, but he wasn't ready to react when Nightwolf skips off the trident and kicks him in the head and grabs it, sending them both down to the ground. Nightwolf has his weapons right at his throat while Arthur swings his trident at Black Manta, who is using his armor's built in blades, in which they were toe to toe with each, that was until Aquaman scoops him off of his feet and and slams his trident down onto his chest, sending him to the ground hard. They are just about defeated.
Close by, Damian is about to rush out to fight, but then he heard a gun loading. Damian quickly brings out his sword and swings and blocks every single bullet. Hardly anyone could shoot that fast and they all aimed for his heard, stomach and eyes. Red Hood, formerly known as Jason Todd, comes out with his guns smoking as he reloads.
"You're fighting me, Jason? After all we've been through? You rescued me from prison. We fought side by side together. I don't get it." Damian said in confusion as he defended himself.
"You really forgot, did you? About that day in Arkham? Where you killed your brother. OUR brother! Dick Grayson was a good man! He was willing to help you. He tried, but you brushed him off because of your own god damn ego!" Red Hood shot back.
"I decide what is best for me! I didn't need training from Bruce or Dick! Bruce is weak and Dick was annoying most of the time!" Damian claimed.
"So is that why you killed him? Because you thought he was annoying you, you stubborn, crybaby?" Red Hood asked.
"I didn't mean to! It was an accident!" Damian tells him.
"You have been an accident since the day you were born! Everyday you've lived has been an accident!" Red Hood roasts Damian as they start to battle.
Red Hood shoots his pistols at Damian, who dodges every bullet before he can close the gap. He charges at Red Hood and tackles him to the ground, but is kicked off. Red Hood comes at Damian with a punch to the head, a stab to the left thigh and a swing kick to the right side of his head, sending him back before doing two more kicks to his stomach before leaping forward, grabs him, rolls forward and kicks him into the air. He jumps up himself and backflip kicks Damian in the forehead, cracking his skull, and sending him into a tree, causing him more pain.
"Pitiful." Jason said to him. "Unlike you, I don't like to be wasteful and kill every criminal."
"I'm….. I'm doing what needs to be done. I'm doing my job, because it's what I do best." Damian said, trying to get up.
"So you got no regrets. That's funny. Because I used to think the same way. I wasn't proud of the lives I have taken. But yours…..-
As the three continue to battle, they hear screeching coming from the distance, where Aquaman and Nightwolf are. They see parademons flying from the sky and attacking the five.
They try their best to fight them off. Nightwolf throws a green spear at two of them and using his hammer, Damian cuts them down with his sword. Aquaman and Nightwolf fight back to back against them as Jason, the only member of the Legion still standing, shoots some Parademons, but he is then bitten on the shoulder by one of them before they gang up on him and grab him by his limbs.
"Let…. let me go!" Jason tries to get free, but to no avail.
The Parademons stop attacking the heroes and they all fly away into a green portal. They are seen carrying not just Red Hood, but also Polaris, Cheetah and Black Manta. As well as the first transdimisional cube. As they walk through, Darkseid stares down at the four of them. They all stare back, all eager to fight him. They all charge, but Darkseid uses his Omega Beams to knock Aquaman and Nightwolf away.
Nightwolf attempts to swing his tomahawk at Darkseid's ankle, but he grabs both of his arms and lifts him up and headbutts him, knocking him out. Then he turns to Damian Wayne, who jumps upward to stab the mighty conqueror in the eye, but Darkseid holds him by the throat and tosses him within the portal. He turns to walk away.
The parademons leave with their master before the portal closes. This leaves Aquaman alone. He finds a strange gold tablet and wonders how it works. But he can't help but wonder who were the people he fought. He also notices an unconscious Cheetah, who was accidentally left behind.
Note: I enjoy writing Red Hood in this. He makes such a great merc. I want to like him more in Arkham Knight, but he sounded too much like a crybaby. But I still prefer him over Damian, lol.
