So much has happened this past half year and even more has been added to my plate. I promise it will never take me this long to update again! Especially after this chapter.
Disclaimer: There are two things I own and Dai-chan and Mao are not it.
Also credit to the wonderful Princess Serenity-chan for being so patient and helpful to me. I owe her so much!
Chapter 6
Daisuke rolled over and opened his eyes only to find himself face to face or rather face to fur with Roku and a patch of white. It took him a moment to realize where he was and what the heck was going on but when it dawned on him sat up slowly and looked over to the other side of the bed to find it unoccupied and neatly made.
Kicking off his own covers he slipped his feet into a pair of slippers and headed out of the bedroom immediately heading towards the guest room. When he found the room empty he looked down to find Roku rubbing against him. "Can you find Mao?"
Roku looked up at him expectantly for a few seconds before heading towards the kitchen.
It was then Daisuke realized he could hear some commotion coming from the kitchen and he made his way down the hall. He stopped when he found Mao already dressed with an apron on standing at the counter. "Early riser are we?"
Mao nearly dropped the spoon he was holding when he heard Daisuke speak and he turned around bowing low. "Gomen nasai."
Daisuke chuckled, "Nothing to apologize for Mao. I was just wondering what you were up to."
Mao straightened up and placed the spoon on the counter. "I was hoping to finish before you woke up but I'm making breakfast. I figured since you made supper last night it would only be fair for me to contribute to making meals."
Daisuke was going to say something about Mao not having to but remembered that the ebony-haired boy was quite stubborn so he bit his lip. "So what's on the menu?"
"Oh, I didn't have much to work with but I made rice, miso soup and an egg with a touch of soy sauce." Mao said, "The rice is just finishing up." He walked over to the other end of the counter. "I also made tea. It's a special blend that's always a bit different but have one thing similar in each brew."
Daisuke chuckled. "I look forward to trying a cup." He looked down to realize he was still only in his sleep pants then looked up. "I'll just go get dressed then I'll join you."
Mao only nodded as he continued to work, all the while he had study notes near by and he was glancing over them every chance he got.
Daisuke headed to his room picked out an outfit for the day placing it on the bed before hoping into the shower for a quick wash. Once he was fresh and clean he dried off and changed into his chosen outfit consisting of dark blue jeans a gray long sleeved shirt pushed up to the elbows and a black silk vest.
Heading back into the kitchen Daisuke was greeted by the wonderful smell of breakfast. "Hmm, Mao that smells delicious."
Mao smiled, "It's not much as I previously mentioned. But I hope it suffices."
Daisuke chuckled. "I'm more than positive it will." He sat down and after the two of them had their meals in front of them they both gave thanks and began eating. Both ate in silence except when Daisuke exclaimed, "Hmm, this is delicious."
Mao blushed faintly, "Thank you. I only wish I could have made more."
Daisuke took another bite. "Even the simplest meal can taste like gourmet."
Mao smiled, "I guess so. I like to cook sometimes so I'm glad you are enjoying it." He continued with his own meal and once they had both finished and the dishes were cleaned Mao looked at Daisuke, "So what's the agenda for today?"
Daisuke looked at Mao and realized the boy was wearing the same outfit from yesterday. "I told you last night we are going shopping. And no-" He cut his new roommate off, "you don't have to pay me back. I told you it's going to be a late birthday present."
Mao chuckled, "Very late. I mean it's already the end of September."
Daisuke shrugged, "So it's the thought that counts isn't it?"
"I suppose so."
Daisuke smiled brightly before grabbing his keys making a mental note to make a copy for Mao while they were out. "Let's go. I think I know just the place to take you." He turned around, "Oh I almost forgot something." He headed back into his room and returned minutes later holding a black fedora with a white band round it and a pair of sunglasses. "I doubt anyone will pay too much attention to me but. Better safe then sorry."
Mao had bent down to pet Roku who had decided he needed attention just as they were about to leave. "Oh yes of course, I better fill his food and water bowl. No telling how long we'll be gone right?"
Daisuke only nodded as he slipped into his shoes and leaned against the door waiting for his roommate to follow suite after their furry companion was set for the next few hours. Once Mao was ready the two of them headed down the stairs. "Now remember no paying me back unless I say okay?"
Mao wanted to argue but knew it was a moot point so he only nodded as he followed Daisuke to the station. "Dai-chan how many outfits do you plan to buy for me?"
"Oh don't worry I don't plan to change your entire wardrobe." Daisuke said chuckling, "Just a few shirts, jeans, sleepwear and well you know."
"Okay but only a few. I already feel, like I'm indebted to you." Mao responded as he stood as close to Daisuke as he could once they reached the station.
"Mao, you won't owe me a thing." Daisuke said, "So I need you to stop worrying about it." He led Mao to one of the cars and the two of them took their seats. Then he placed his glasses and fedora on and leaned back against his seat. "It's about a 40 minute ride. Okay?"
Mao only nodded, "Had I known that I would have brought some of my notes to go over."
Daisuke chuckled, "Well you're in luck." He reached into his wallet and pulled out a folded up piece of paper. "Remember when I helped you study last night by quizzing you? Well I made notes of all the questions you seemed to struggle with and the ones you got wrong. I figure we could pass the time by going over them again."
Mao beamed. "Oh thank you!"
So the two of them spent the entire train ride going over the notes all the while Daisuke ignored the buzzing from his phone in his pocket. Right now Mao was more important. Besides he knew who was calling him and the reason. "Mao you have nothing to worry about. You got every answer right this time."
Mao smiled warmly, "Thank you so much Dai-chan." He sighed contently, "Did you have any other plans for today?"
"Actually yes I have a dinner meeting again. Remember when my manager called me yesterday? Well he texted me earlier this morning to tell me the meeting will be at 7pm tonight, at the same restaurant."
Mao's smile dropped in an instant. "Oh, I hope I don't have to serve you again."
Daisuke noticed Mao's smile leave his face and his own expression was one of concern, "What do you mean?"
"I'm scared I'll mess things up for you and that new role." Mao explained.
"Mao, to be honest I'd request you personally." Daisuke admitted. "Besides I have a bad feeling about tonight."
Mao looked at him surprised, "You mean about me?"
Daisuke shook his head, "No, just a bad feeling. But don't worry about it." He glanced up when he noticed they were pulling into the station. "Come on we're here." He led Mao off the train and towards their destination, "Welcome to Shibuya."
Mao's eyes widened at the vastness. "Wow," was all he could say. He had never been here before. "I hope you know where you're going because I'm pretty sure I'll get lost right away."
Chuckling warmly Daisuke took Mao's hand into his own, "Don't worry just stay close okay?" He thought for a moment then smiled, "I think we'll go to Lumine Man Mall. They have some pretty good choices. I used to shop there when I was about your age."
Mao followed the other man silently and the two of them made their way though the crowds, several times nearly losing each other. "It's surprising how people can stay together in these crowds."
"Do you want to go somewhere else?" Daisuke asked.
"No this is okay, just a little overwhelming." Mao answered daring to stand closer to Daisuke. Seconds later he felt a harsh shove come from out of nowhere and he found himself falling against the actor nearly knocking Daisuke over in the process. Luckily for Mao, Daisuke had turned around just in time making Mao fall against his chest.
The people around them gave them a decent size berth as Daisuke could tell Mao was shaking, "Hey are you okay? What happened?"
Mao stood up carefully pushing himself away a faint blush dusting his cheeks, "I think someone pushed me on accident." He said.
"But are you okay?" Daisuke asked again.
"Yes, I'm okay." Mao answered, "Can we go?"
Smiling Daisuke took Mao's hand into his own again making sure this time he would be walking in stride with him. "Of course it's not far. Just be ready to try on a lot of clothes."
They had reached the sidewalk and moved off to the side where there was a little less pedestrian traffic, "A lot of clothes? But Dai-chan you said you'd only be buying me a few things!"
"True but did you really think we would just pick out a few shirts without making sure you look good in them?" Daisuke asked chuckling. "I don't get to treat my friends that often because of my schedule and so I'm going to take advantage of this chance while I have it."
Mao sighed in defeat, "Okay I'll try on whatever you want me to but I don't want you to buy me anymore then what I need."
Daisuke quirked an eyebrow, "Okay if you insist." He took Mao's hand into his own again and led him towards one of the department stores. "Okay let's see." He began searching through the racks of shirts before pulling out a few polo shirts, then he moved over to a rack of regular plain colored tshirts and a rack of vests. "Okay the jeans you're wearing now should look okay with these shirts. Let's have you try them on and then you can pick out what you like best okay?"
Mao only nodded and allowed himself to be led to one of the dressing rooms. After trying on several different combinations of the shirts and vests he decided on three shirts and three vests that would go great all combined no matter what. "Okay these three and these three."
"Okay and what about the tshirts?" Daisuke asked.
"Well I liked these four. The design is pretty cool and I guess I look okay in them." Mao said shyly.
Daisuke chuckled, "Okay? Mao every time you have come out of that dressing room I've lost count of how many people have stopped to look at you. You make every one of those shirts look amazing on you. I swear if you weren't going to go to school I'd think you'd make an amazing model" He complimented. "Now I have one more shirt style I want you to try then we'll go on to jeans and pants okay?"
"I think you're having too much fun with this." Mao said.
"Anything wrong with that?" Daisuke asked as he began looking through the rack of button down shirts before pulling off a few and handing them to Mao, "Okay go try these one with-" He moved to the rack of jeans finding a pair that were a dark grey and with a decorative yet obtrusive chain on the side, "-With these jeans. I think they'll look really good."
Sighing in defeat Mao headed back to the dressing room and after every shirt he tried with the jeans, which fit him perfectly he did notice several other customer's looking at him and it would make him blush profusely. "Okay I think I know what ones I want." It was tough decision but he decided on 4 different button down shirts. "Could I look at the jeans myself?"
"Yes of course." Daisuke said Seconds later he chuckled and shook his head, "I'm sorry I should have let you decide which clothes you wanted in the first place."
"No, I appreciate your suggestions, really." Mao said shyly, "I mean who else can say they received fashion tips from an actual actor?"
A genuine smile appeared on Daisuke's lips, "I think I'll take that as a compliment."
Mao returned the smile and walked over to the racks of jeans finding a pair similar to the ones he had tried on only this time they didn't' have the chain and he decided he would ask Daisuke if he could get a belt or two. He found another pair of jeans black ones this time with the chain and another pair without and a pair of dark brown khaki's. After trying them all on just to be save he decided on all five pairs.
"Okay, I think that's a good amount. Now we just need to get a belt or two and a few other things then I think we're good." Daisuke said as he led Mao to where he could pick out his size of undergarments all the while checking doing some math in his head. He knew if Mao heard the total price of everything he had picked out the boy would no doubt try to put most of it back insisting it was too much. "Got what you needed?"
Mao nodded, "Yep, um can you pick out a belt or two for me? I trust your judgement."
"Sure why?"
"I need to go." Mao said tilting his head toward the restrooms. "I'll be right back."
"Oh okay," Daisuke chuckled, "Okay I'll meet you at the counter then." Once Mao was out of sight he made his way to the belts and picked out three he was sure would look good with before heading up to the counter and managed to get all the items rung up and paid for before his shopping companion had returned. "All set, ready to go?"
Mao took a hold of two bags as Daisuke took a hold of the other two, "How did you get all those clothes into just four bags?"
Daisuke averted his gaze, "Oh I have my ways." He chuckled, "Come on it's nearly lunch time. "Lets go grab a bite then we'll get back so you can study a little more if you want ok?"
As the two of them made their way out of the store Mao found himself nearly knocked over by another person and almost wasn't quick enough to grab his bags as they were nearly knocked out of his hands. "Sumimasen."
"No, I should apologize I'm-" the voice trailed off. "Watanabe Daisuke-sama?"
Daisuke held back a groan, "Please not so loud, it's my day off." He white-lied. He had the daytime off but he was back to work again that evening so was only half the truth. He turned and noticed a boy around Mao's age from the looks with dark hair and narrowed eyes. His lips looked rather chapped and the boy kept licking at them, "Did you need something though? We were kind of in a hurry." He asked hoping he didn't sound rude.
"Oh I'm terribly sorry. Are you on a date?"
Mao's cheeks grew as red as one of his new shirts. "Ano."
"No, no. He's not my-" Daisuke began to protest.
"Hm who knew." Said the young man, "Well I'll be going. Sorry I interrupted your date."
Before Daisuke could protest again the boy had disappeared in the crowd. "Oh dear."
Mao's eyes cast down, "I knew something like this was going to happen."
Daisuke took Mao's arm and led him towards the café located in the mall. "Calm down, it's not your fault." He led Mao to one of the booths and the two of them sat down placing their bags next to them Once they had ordered, Mao a lot less then what Daisuke expected him to. Daisuke reached over and took Mao's hand into his own, "Mao, listen to me, this wasn't your fault. Nothing is going to happen okay? And even if something does I doubt anyone will believe him."
"If you say so." Mao said quietly. "I just want to go back to your apartment as soon as we can. I think I've had more then enough fun for one day."
"That's another thing we have to work on. You need to get some time where you can just relax. If you work too hard you could make yourself sick again.." Daisuke said. "And getting sick from stress and being overworked isn't something I'd even wish on my worst enemy.' He chuckled, "Not that I have one of course."
Mao faintly chuckled, "Okay. But just remember as soon as I'm given the okay, I'm moving back to my old place."
Daisuke said nothing to that knowing if he tried to argue about it he would lose. Hamao Kyosuke was the most stubborn person he had come to have the privilege of knowing and he knew a lot of people. But he would do what he could to make sure his roommate however temporary would enjoy every moment he spent with him. "Oh what time do you work tonight?"
"Mao looked at his cell-phone to see it had just turned 2pm, "Not for another 4 hours. I work from 6 till 11pm tonight"
"Well don't forget I'll be going with you so you can get your uniform paid for. And if you insist you may pay me back for that but nothing else understood?" Daisuke said sipping his coffee.
"Yes I understand." Mao said as he sipped his own glass of iced tea. "Dai-chan?"
Daisuke looked up, "Hmm?"
Mao nodded towards the shopping bags and smiled warmly, "Thank you for doing this."
Daisuke chuckled, "No Mao, thank you for letting me."
They finished their meal in a comforting silence save the quite friendly chatter coming from the other tables, all the while not noticing the cell-phone pointed in their direction hiding the sinister smile on a pair of chapped lips.
