AN: Hey guys. Sorry for the late update. This week has been finals at school so I haven't been able to write. Anyway, in this one, Kara learns about motorcycles from Lena. *Idea from Of Accents and Mechanics by inkwolf222* ~Immortalshark

*Lena's POV*
I knew I had to do an interview on the recent events, on what I thought of Lex's plan to try to take over the world. So I chose the only person who I would give that interview to, Kara. I specifically made it so that it was either Kara or no interview at all. Then a few minutes later, Kara came in, of course with a bag of food as well. Once it was just us, her face split into a smile.
"Hi Lena." she said.
"Kara." I said chuckling as she seemed to bounce over.
See, we had been dating for five going on six months now. No one knew and surprisingly, Kara had kept it quiet. In return for quarterly interviews, Kara helped me with some of my personal projects. I thought it couldn't get better than having Kara as a friend, but it did when she was my girlfriend. She helped with harder math problems that I couldn't solve, I taught her how to ride a motorcycle and how it's built. Every now and then, Kara would be working on something other than her reports. I looked to see symbols.
"Kara, what are you doing?" I asked.
"Working on somethin'." she said.
"Mind if I have another point of view? I'm working on something for Alex." I said.
She nodded and looked over my notes for a gun with the Alex seal of approval.
"What are you trying to do here?" she asked as she pointed to my notes about trying to adjust the amount of power emitted in a shot.
"Well, I'm trying to create something that can be adjusted from stun to injure with a nob. The stun is just a mild shock, kind of like a mini static shock. In the middle is somewhere close to a taser and the injure is your regular bullet type level." I told her.
She smiled, "I see. Well, I could help ya. Might need somethin later though." she rubbed the back of her head with a sheepish look.
"Oh? And what that might be?" I asked.
Kara smirked this time, "Well, I sorta told Maggie that she'd be competing against Ghost in a street race on Saturday, 11pm at Munroe pass. I did reveal a little bit of my biker knowledge when Maggie had to change her ignition coil. They wanted to know who taught me."
I smirked at her it had been a while since I took part in a street race. See, she had caught me in my bike room and surprisingly wasn't all too upset. She had asked to learn more about bikes and so I let loose and told her. I was excited to share something that not many people knew with Kara. After that, Kara was helping me around the shop. I even caught her working on something but was shooed away and told it was a surprise.
*Maggie's POV*
I was trying to figure out why my bike was malfunctioning. I brought it to the DEO to try to find out. Alex, J'onn, Winn, and James couldn't either. We were all standing around frustrated and puzzled when Kara walked in.
"Hey guys," she called, "what's up?"
Everyone smiled and waved.
"Something's wrong with my bike and we can't figure it out." I answered.
Kara looked confused, "Why are J'onn and Winn here then? No offence." she said.
Winn shrugged, "Moral support."
Kara looked over to J'onn who told her he was here for supervision. Everyone got a kick out of the large dent and crack in the wall from the wrench I threw. Kara stepped up to take a look.
"What seems to be the problem?" she asked.
I looked at Alex to see she was just as confused.
I told her anyway, "I'm not completely sure to be honest. I sent her in for a service four days ago and everything was running smoothly until this morning when she back fired. When I finally started her up it feels as if she lost all engine power. I drove straight here and we've been trying to fix her ever since but I can't find anything wrong."
Kara nodded along, "When was the last time you charged the battery?"
Everyone was confused but I went with the gut feeling that Kara knew what she was talking about.
"It's brand new, had it installed with the service the other day. Works fine too, it was the first thing I tested." I said as Kara made two loops around the bike before taking off her sweater and glasses leaving her in jeans and a black t-shirt.
Kara grabbed a couple of wrenches, screwdrivers, allen keys, and an ohmmeter with an ease and familiarity that shouldn't be there. She gestured towards the bike and I nodded. I watched in amazement as Kara worked with focus and precision. She removed the fuel tank and bike seat, turned off the engine ignition switch and disconnected the battery grounding wire. I watched as she fixed the ignition coil with ease and put the bike back together. I smiled when it worked and I gave her a hug.
"Little Danvers, you are amazing." I said, "Where did you learn all that? I never knew you were interested in motorcycles."
Kara shrugged and her smile was still in place, "I have a friend who's a racer and they taught me everything I know. They are a genius when it comes to bikes. Good racer too, one of the best actually, or so I heard."
"A racer huh?" Alex piped up and Kara nodded. "Didn't you use to race?" she asked me
I nodded, "Would your friend be interested? Seeing as you've kept them a secret this long, we'd like to meet them."
"I'll ask, though I don't think you'll want to race them." Kara said.
I scoffed, "Saturday, 11pm, the Munroe pass. Don't be late."
Kara nodded, grabbed her stuff and left. She was nearly at the elevator when James called out.
"Kara wait!" she turned around, "What's your friend's name?" he asked.
Kara smirked, "Ghost."
Oh shit! You see, I had been pretty confident up until I heard the street handle. Ghost was a legend among the street racers, a rider that showed up out of the blue one night and has dominated the races since. They showed up whenever they wanted, never talked, never took off their helmet, and once the race was over they disappeared without a trace. It's how they earned their name, plus the fact that nobody knows who they are. Hell no one even knew their gender! The only distinguishable feature was their custom built black and green superbike.
I was suitably terrified, very few were brave enough to challenge Ghost once they reached the top of the roster and nobody had ever beaten them but I had never backed down from a challenge. My only question was how the heck did Kara know Ghost? If they taught her like she said, that meant that Kara has seen Ghost without the helmet. She knows what they look like, who they are and no matter how hard the rest of the Superfriends had tried, Kara hadn't given an inch on the identity. We had done everything from buying her favorite candy bars to offering to buy her food for a month and in one desperate attempt, even convinced J'onn to stand in for Supergirl for an entire week so that Kara and Lena could go on that romantic getaway they keep talking about.
I still don't know how Alex got J'onn to agree to that but it was a futile attempt. Clearly Kara was more adept at keeping secrets than even Alex realized. The anecdote of the best liars make people think they are horrible is very much at play here. We really should stop underestimating Kara. I noticed that we had arrived at Munroe Pass, which was the perfect road for street racing. I started getting ready and Alex measured out the quarter mile distance and placed markers. Vasquez, J'onn, James, Winn, Lucy, and Lyra came. Alex was excited to see Lucy. At 10:59 we started getting impatient wondering where Kara and her friend was and I got worried that I might have been stood up. Right at 11pm, the sound of a loud engine rumbling came round the bend and a green and black custom speedster pulled up to the starting line. One of its two passengers got off and when the helmet was removed, it was Kara.
"Sorry we're late guys," she motioned to the other black, leather clad figure on the bike, "we had to get through the roadblocks at the stadium. Apparently today was the Midnight Match." Kara shrugged.
I turned to the other racer excited.
*Alex's POV*
When I had marked the course, I couldn't help but marvel at all my sister's hidden talents and friends. I had always known Kara was smart. Hell, she did twelfth grade math and science at the age of six! Clearly my sister was more adept at certain things than I realized, sometimes it was easy to forget Kara was a genius who's had to play average most of her life. Somebody who could probably teach Winn how to build and crack firewalls instead of asking him how to do a software update on her computer.
I watched the race as Maggie and Ghost were neck and neck for the first bit before Ghost gunned it. Of course, Ghost won. However instead of pulling the disappearing act, Ghost kicked down the bike stand and switched off the engine. Maggie did the same and took off her helmet and I tackled her in a bear hug.
"You did great sweetie." I whispered into her ear and Maggie just smiled.
We turned when a muffled but loud 'oof' sounded behind us. We found Kara spinning the newly dismounted Ghost around in the air, huge smile plastered on her face. We all just smiled at Kara cause she sure was a hugger.
"So Kara. Are you going to introduce us to your friend?" Lucy asked as she too had received the same treatment just a few minutes ago.
Kara put down the racer.
"There's no need for an introduction." Ghost's distinctly feminine Irish accent bleeds through the helmet, "you all know me already."
"WHAT?!" Everybody yelled.
*Lena's POV*
I couldn't help but chuckle at the rest of the superfriend's faces.
"Yeah," I said softly, "You know me quite well actually."
"I think I would distinctly remember if one of my friends had an Irish accent." James argued.
Well, apparently he forgot that I had an Irish accent, though I doubt he caught my slips when we dated for a time.
"Oh really?" I smirked.
James nods confidently.
"Well, if you're that sure of yourself," I started unbuckling the strap, "Let's find out shall we?"
I took off the helmet. I had to hold back a chuckle at the faces of the rest.
*Lucy's POV*
This is what I missed about being with Kara. Nothing is as expected. I had an idea of who Ghost was based on Kara's actions but I didn't say anything just to watch the flabbergasted expressions on the other's faces when the helmet came off revealing Lena Luthor. You could practically see the question marks flying from each one of them.
"What's up with the Irish accent?" Vasquez asked.
Lena instantly blushed but her smirk remained. Kara came up to her and gave her a little kiss on the cheek and it softened into a small smile. Kara looked at her and had wrapped an arm around Lena's waist.
"As you know, Lionel Luthor is my biological father. My mother however was one of the servants in the mansion. A young Irish girl alone for the first time in her life. Immigrated here with the money left by her parents to make a better life for herself. Lionel and her started an affair. Lillian knew but didn't care. She cared when my mother became pregnant with me. When she died, her lawyer contacted the Luthors and from there the rest is history. I was 'adopted' at age four." Lena trailed off for a few seconds, she shook her head, "Anyway, Lillian didn't like my native accent, so for the first few months I worked with a dialect coach daily to learn an American accent. Privately I kept my Irish accent as a way to piss Lillian off."
We laughed at that. We all found out about Kara's knowledge in the subject and how she learned. We were also finding out that Kara had done the same. She fit in but behind the scenes she kept up with her studies. In fact, a couple of the tech that Lena provided the DEO was designed and programmed with Kara's help. Heck, I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for Kara and her tech. The compass was also a signal. You just had to press the center of the compass for the face to open up to a screen. From there you'd press a side button and it would send out a signal only to whatever it was programed to signal. The signal ran off of the electromagnetic field humans generate and so wouldn't be affected by anything trying to block the signal.
*Lena's POV*
It was about two days after the whole reveal to the superfriends. I was participating in a street race when I spotted a new name on the list. Blue Bird. I was interested because normally you wouldn't see a newbie out on the street races just yet. I raced just fine but the newbie won. It was ridiculous! The engine of the bike was barely making any sound. The wheels were spiffy but the traction was amazing. When I got home, Kara was there waiting.
"So, how'd it go?" Kara asked.
"Oh my gosh! There's this new racer who completely blew me away! Somehow they got their engine to work with the barest sound." I said and ranted about how I was dethroned from the top.
Kara just giggled, "Lena. Come with me."
I followed her out to my little sanctuary and found something under wraps. It was the thing Kara had been working on, the one that she wouldn't let me see.
"I wanted you to see it. Go on." Kara said.
I looked at her and pulled off the cover. Underneath was the very bike that utterly destroyed my bike record.
"How? How the hell did you pull this off?" I asked.
Kara giggled, "Well, I was always interested in motorcycles ever since I got here. I simply used the technology I had to build an engine. I had looked at how the engine worked and redesigned it so that it was more efficient and didn't make as much noise. Then I took the chamber where the exchange is made and converted it so that the exchange is quicker and provides more power. The cylinders are coated in a fine film of oil so they move smoother and quicker. The wheels were tough but I figured I'd use a silicone base instead of a rubber base. I then coated the silicone in a hard but malleable plastic, textured the wheels and voila. The wheels are held on by a magnetic field, not an axel so they spin faster."
I stood there completely flabbergasted. I knew Kara was smart. Hell, she made a device that modifies her powers so that if she wants to she could have no powers, some powers, all powers, or just a select power. She also had made herself a device that is keyed only to her hearing. It was similar to the watch James has for Superman, but this was even better. Instead of just an emergency button it also had one to make sure that the super stayed away. It was also a communicator and a mini computer that was capable of locating certain things. I had also watched Kara as she worked out some days because she was able to control her powers. I had noticed that she was able to do things that I've seen somewhere but I have no idea where she got the ideas from. I had also noticed that Alex wasn't surprised by Kara's talent, in fact, I've seen Alex join Kara every once in a while.
AN: Alright. That's the end of that chapter. Up next is that Kara does parkour and free running in her free time. Her love of the sport came from watching Alex play Assassin's Creed and seeing the agility of the main character.
